Man, that's a dastic art change from page 2 to page 1002. Oh hey that's a thousand pages, no wonder.
…I want spam pages from the comic. There are so many good ones, but I'll contain myself and just post one.
This one is a bonus page, the bonus pages are usually weird and funny... Erh... Weirder and funnier... This one is funny to, dunno how exactly. The poor stuck robot is a boxbot. Who nobody likes, by word of the author.
!
Top tier comic. Been following it since the start.
Basically amazing? I mean it's been such a staple of my weekly routine for years now I can barely think of words to describe what I love about it.
Maybe in time.
Awesome comic. I found the first volume in my library, ate that up, and then read the rest online. It reminds me of one of those really atmospheric adventure books I used to read as a kid. :)
Oh wow,we have a thread for it now. I don't think I've been following since the beginning but once I found out about it I started reading and really enjoyed it,and read it every day it's updated. This thread reminded me to read today's.
I just started reading it. It's really good and very interesting at most. I'll try to read atleast 30-50 or so pages a week until I catch up.
I like the art style it reminds me of The Critic. I might have to start reading this.
Hail to the king of webcomics in my eyes only girlgenius and dr. mcninja are worthy competition.
But the thread here actually made me hope for a gunnerkrigg court animated series.. curse you!.
Just imagine how sweet that would be.
Amazing webcomic, it has a interesing start, maybe not really serious (mostly because of the initial art style), but when I read chapter 3 I knewn I had to follow it.
But the thread here actually made me hope for a gunnerkrigg court animated series.. curse you!.

From what I know, the fans already tried to do an animated project. I guess it lacked support and then it was abandoned.
Hail to the king of webcomics in my eyes only girlgenius and dr. mcninja are worthy competition.
I love your taste good sir/madam.

Gonna be interesting to see how it turns out! Super-well I hope! :)

Book two isn't available if don't cough up a silly amount of cash… Don't try to order it from amazon. They'll just hold your order for like ever and such. >__>
Tom is working on getting it into print again though... :)
I've read through it all the way once, and got about halfway on my second reading
i was really surprised to find a Gunnerkrigg book at my local Borders a few years ago. it's the only time that's happened with a webcomic that I keep up with
Could someone give me a nice little pitch as to what this is about and why I should read it?
no you should just read it
that's the only way
It's true. Modern science has proven that it's, to some extent, better to die horribly then not read Gunnerkrigg Court.
But, if your are one of those teenager-gentlemen/ladies with a devil may care attitude about dying horribly here's that pitch you clamored for so.
Gunnerkrigg Court tells the story of Annie, a teenager who attend to the school of Gunnerkrigg Court at the wish of her recently deceased mother. Much of the story evolves about Annie exploring the Court and the strange things that happens in and around it. Other character includes Annies best friend, Kat, pretty much a tech-wizard. Although she herself is sceptical about magic. There's also Shadow a second shadow that stuck to Annie and Robot a robot Annie built to help Shadow to Gillitie Wood, home of the shadow people. Annie named them both by the way.
You should read it because it really is awesome. For real, you. :)
There's also a character named coyote who is just fantastic
Yeah, sorry, I was kinda looking for something a bit more than "It's sooooo gooooooood".

Tom Siddell drew me a picture of Agrias from Final Fantasy Tactics as a commission.

well i could say it's a MAGIC SCHOOL story like harry potter, but that's inaccurate
basically it's just a girl and her pals having weird ass mechanical/magical adventures and shit and it's funny and also creepy
reynardine with a flower in his hair

Ok, that's a bit better. I understand the need to avoid spoiling "what its really about", sometimes I just need a general idea of what hooks people onto things.

It's really fukking good.
Yeah, sorry, I was kinda looking for something a bit more than "It's sooooo gooooooood".
Hahaha. :D Sorry, I was going to write a little bit more about that in my post but then I noticed what time it was and cut it short.
What hooks me on the story is it's continuity. I get the feeling when I read it that there is some thought behind the ongoings in the court. You know, like the feeling that you are actually reading about another world. :I
There's also lots of other things about it that makes it soooo gooood. :)
I think the premise of the story has more than sufficiently been presented:
Magic / mechanical school, robots, mythological creatures and an overarching mystery that follows the children as they grow up in Gunnerkrigg Court. It's equal parts funny and frightening.
And it's really good. Now you've gotten like three summaries already and every single poster in the thread going on about how "it is good."
Frankly it shouldn't be this hard to convince someone to navigate to a webpage and start clicking the next button, go read it and figure out yourself what the hook is!

We'll even help you on the way! Gunnerkrigg Court, page1
Hahaha. :)

It wasn't hard, just when it comes to webcomics, I like to know the general gist of what I'm getting into , see if its something that interests me. I was satisfied with Taboo's explanation. I responded to your obvious joke post with another joke.
Not to mention, it's hard to get down to things when fans of a certain thing can get so caught up in what they like they can't properly communicate why they like that thing. Take the My Little Pony thing, for instance. If all I saw were rabid fans online gushing about how good it was, I'd be slightly turned off just by the fandom. So If I were to ask why they find it great and only get bombarded with context-less gags that are tantamount to in-jokes, I'd not see the appeal. (I'm not calling anyone in here rabid fans, by the way, just illustrating an example). So I don't see what's so wrong with asking for a little insight into what it is that you like about it.
I'll check it out…when I get around to it.
Bumping this thread because I just remembered how awesome this webcomic is.
zimmy, why your chapters always creep me out
Creepy? There's just some nobodies with infections of black lines instead of faces. ;P Hahaha. I mostly get confused by 'em.
im pretty sure that's jack
..or something that looks like jack
it's a jack
about to be a jackass no doubt
Pfff, I'm not gonna hypothesi in a Zimma chapter. :P …but if I were to I would say you are right.
My favorite parts of the chapter has gotta be headpigeon(and the spider and the myriapoda in Zimmys hair). :)
So I just started this on a few days ago. really digging the morbid mood that is constantly hovering over everything. But there was one point of no return for me.
I am so hooked it's not even healthy anymore. The only bad thing is that I have not many chapters left to read anymore.
I'm currently catching up to this.
And wow.
Everyone should read this.

Finished catching up. This comic is really good stuff. I love it's whole take on creationism and the unique lore within its setting. I have alot of favorite characters. I'd be lying if I said there was a character I disliked. I feel like I don't have much to say about with without talking to someone one-on-one about it, but here's a bit I wrote elsewhere about one particular character that stands out for me. Robby the Robo.
[hide]
First of all, he appears very differently compared to the other robots. His swag hoodie for instance. It gives me the impression that he wants to appear more like a human. Secondly he reveres Kat as an angel, when she's really just a really talented engineer. I'm not sure if this all started from him, but recent chapter leads me to believe he's feeding the other robots this misconception that became popular with the other robots. Why "angel" , and not "god"? That's because the orignal creator has long died, along with the ambition that drove him to create to begin with. Perhaps Robby now sees him as a fallen god.
Now I'm wondering what his motives are. Which is interesting here. He's the only robot in the court that shows that he does have motives, and I think that's unique and perhaps his most dangerous trait. I'm not going to go any further with theories now as I'm afraid what I'd expect would be too cliche, or worse… "have expectations". Ew. Having expectations is lousy. If anything, I'd hate for him to suddenly become evil. There has to be more black and white to it.

This comic is also filled with pairings.
Which is nice. I like romance.
At one point I was pushing for Surma and Kat, but I realized the author probably has not intend for that. Their friendship is too cute tho.

[HIDE]Well, Kat's appereance in Zimmy-vision in the "Divine" chapter was rather angel like… :S[/HIDE]

Haha, I'm guessing you mean Annie and Kat? :) Surma is Annie's mother.
I love Tom's ship-teasing/sinking myself… ;P Always fun when people start freaking out over stuff like that.
