God Enel and the People of the Moon Discussion

Okay, so I looked through the Thread Reference and didn't find a thread for this. And I think this deserves it's own thread.

God Enel and the People of the Moon. Which refers to to the three races that came from the Moon: Skypieans, Shandians and Birkans.

The three races used to live on the Moon in a city named "Birka". Some time ago (over a 1000 years) they ran out resources and left for the Earth. The Skypieans and Birkans settled on sky islands and the Shandians on the island of Jaya.

And a related subject: Enel. He now lives on the Moon and controls an army of robots. When will we see him again? Also, what's the deal with the drum thing on his back? My guess is that he ripped off his wings and inserted that thing in their place. (Hopefully Oda draws him as a child so we can get that cleared up.)

I had always assumed that those drums were caused by the devil fruit itself (yes I know that doesn't make any sense)

Yeah, it doesn't. I don't think they were caused by the fruit.

There's the theory that the Ds are descendants of moon people (there's here somewhere detailing it). The most curious piece of evidence is volume 27's cover, which has a Luffy with wings winking, a possible foreshadow to the confirmation of this theory.

Very interesting theory but I don't believe it. If the WG went to war against the "half-moons", why did they leave the full-blooded moon people, the Shandians, alone? And the kingdom the D's supposedly built can't have been Shandora. Shandians lived in Shandora. And the WG would've wiped out Shandora if that was the case. But it was still fine 400 years ago when Noland found it.

I think it's more likely that this cover is actually a hint about the importance of the wings rather than a BIG HINT about Luffy's origin.

Because the D's line that come from the moon thus having a different and superior blood than the rest of the One Piece world make sense to you? After the whole Fishman arc where Oda shows that Jinbe's blood is the same as Luffy? Jinbe comes from the moon too?

By your logic, Luffy should have been a Fishman on the volume 65 cover just to show how important they are.

Whether or not Luffy is a blood descendent of the winged people or not that cover just proves what we really started to understand after Enies Lobby and Fishman Island. Which is that the ancient kingdom was completely allied with Jiya and Fishman Island which in turn has a major connection to the Will of D. I don't see how anyone could argue that even if that mysterious cover never existed.

Well no since the meaning of the cover for me is quite different than yours. Back in Skypiea, we didn't know the origin of these people, they come from the moon, that's something. As for fishmen, we already know while reading the arc that they are pretty much important to the story (Noah, Joy Boy, Poseidon).

This is mine: Putting wings on Luffy and him winking is a way for Oda to hint the coverstory of Enel that will reveal the true origin of these people.

It's pretty much this:

Oda: "Hey, why is Luffy winking? Just wait for Enel's coverstory to appear and you will see that the sky people are actually much more relevant to the story than you think!"

Seriously? The only logical conclusion? Maybe Oda just drew them on him for decoration? The arc was about winged people, so he decided to draw Luffy with wings.

The Fishman Island arc was about Fishmen, so why didn't Oda draw Luffy with gills?

It's probably where the third ancient weapon is. I'd guess that the existence of life on the moon is unknown to the WG, which is why that particular ancient weapon hasn't been found (should it be material like Pluton).

That explanation sounds more bizarre in my opinion. Oda is known for his foreshadowing but still… I think it was just for decoration.

The Half-Moon theory has been around for a long time and many people believe it. There is never anything that contradicts it, in fact, there is always more evidence for it, but you can believe what you want.

Foxy I got to admit you're being pretty stubborn when it comes to this stuff, just because there is 'proof' for a theory does not mean its the only logical conclusion. I'm sure you could find proof that works against the half moon theory, but that wouldn't completely dissprove it just because there is some 'proof' there.

IMO, I think the wings were probably decoration, I don't think Oda would put so much meaning into every single thing he draws, its being looked into too much. It's like in a literature class when you examine why the author made the character wear red clothes, when in reality, there is no concrete reason, he just put him in red clothing because.

Because that would look dumb.
Because Oda wanted to make those pictures we got for FMI and not something else.
Because wings made a nice motive.
Because…you get the idea.

There are a lot of parts of One Piece, that foreshadow later events, but volume covers? I don't really think so...
