watching old OP eps, i was watching Morgan and it occured to me, he's named after a Whiskey? am i wrong? surely Oda knows of better Whiskeys :(
You mean the whiskey
-
-
…...
:glare:
The Whiskey AND the character are named off a real Pirate. -
… and I hate to be nitpicky, but its rum, not whiskey.
Not that I would know.
-
I believe he's named after Henry Morgan, who's a fairly well-known pirate. I'm not sure what Morgan did during his pirate career…goes back to reading Under The Black Flag
-
Hehe…ironic that a marine is named after a pirate. :) Captain Morgan is pretty good rum. If you thought it was whisky, no wonder you didn't think it was too good. XD

Well he wasn´t a very nice guy to begin with and in the end he didn´t remain a marine captain.
-
but it's damn good whisky, er.. rum, or whatever. :P
-
And he was a pethatic captian when he was one!!!!!
-
Damn good Whiskey. (Just kidding.)
Pathetic indeed… He was a captain??
-
Yep. You know what? I'm curious now. I'm gonna look up Henry Morgan and find out what he did as a pirate. It's gonna bug me until I find out.
I'll be back! runs off

Good read, I used it for my research paper two years back.

Ah! Here we go:
Morgan was able to motivate many of the buccaneers around Jamaiaca and Hispaniola into piracy, which led to him building a fairly large fleet. He launched a large attack against the well-defended Spanish town of Portabello. Afterwards, and after several smaller raids, he successfully attacked Panama City and deserted his men with the loot while the city burned to the ground. Eventually, he was caught by the English Navy, but was knighted and made govener of Jamaica by King Charles II, who was pleased with his raids against the Spanish. He lived the rest of his days a wealthy and respected man.
Interesting that Oda got Morgan's name from this. He was a crooked Marine, after all.
-
That is a very interesting parallel. Good find!
-
Heh. I'm a pirate history buff. Probably why One Piece intrigued me. I love pirates!
-
Oh yeah, Morgan was one of the first "buccaneers," land pirates. D'oh, How could I forget about that?
-
thanks for clearing that up everyone, now i've learn't two things in one thread, including now being able to distinguish between liquors :)

I think you're all wrong. Captain Morgan was named after me. Seeing as my real name is Morgan, I'm the captain of my local pirate crew, I own an ax, and I'm a heartless bastard, Oda totally got the idea from me. XD
Anyway, I like the idea that he was named after Henry Morgan. After that info that Mr. 13 found, it seems highly plausible.
By the way, I'm not really a heartless bastard.
