i am curious about this i am in college right now and i don't know if its possible that if being in a regular college will get me to be able to be a comic book/Manga Artist

i know i have to deal with deadlines, and things like that i am not asking for that what i am asking is i need to be in a career of art so that way it will give me experience that will get me into what i want to be able to get into.

also is being in graphic design is possible someone can get into the comic book/Manga industry?

also i am attending miami Dade college Wolfson campus since right next door is the new world school of arts.

Direct questions like this towards the Help Forum rather than this one.

As for your question, I'm not too knowledgeable in this field. I will tell this however. I attend Miami Dade College: North Campus, and if there's anything I can you tell you is that the general advisers(the ones that handle registration for new students) do not know shit. Look for the department that relates to your major and ask questions there for more information.

Wolfson should have an Art and Graphics department. If you are still uncertain, maybe someone here can better give you a guide. There's alot of other factors that come into play, especially if you are going into comics.

anyways yeah they told me that alot of the graphic design classes moved to the north campus.

but the drawing classes are still in wolfson which is awesome thanks.

i didn't know there was a help forum good i need to post this in there instead.

i know there is factors to what i want to do but so does everything else, anyways does anybody knows any publishing studios here in Miami?

I am one of the 0.0000000000001 people in the world who has actually been in a literal Comic Book Major!

And know what I heard there? "You don't really need a degree for this at all."

Simply put. There is no precedent at all in the American comics industry for people having a degree on the subject.
So if that's your sole worry, stop being worried.

Frankly I don't think a degree is much important at all in that industry for pure creative careers. But it would definitely be good to have an art degree even of the basic sort, it puts you above other hopefuls.

Getting a more general art degree is smart too, in case things don't work out in comics, or you lose that passion, a general art degree can be used for other things. As you said Graphic Design is a viable career.

thanks so i don't need to get a degree but yeah i been thinking like graphic design and such.

more on the illustration so i can hone those skills in order to be a comic book artist/Manga artist.

sea: i am an amatuer artist even i am not that good but i am improving somehow just not there yet but i have hope that i can do it.

can anybody awnser this for me but is there any publication companies in Florida and Miami that does Comic books/ Manga?

As a comic book artist, and with many other art/creative careers, think of school as purely a place to learn - not to earn that degree, which sadly many careers are all about.

I went to a small film school for less than a year rather than running some ridiculous Bachelor's program at say AI (Art Institute of Whatever). I have friends that are still going there after two years, hate it, while I'm actually working in the field already. When they get out, they'll have a piece of paper, with barely any experience. And a whole shitload of frustration as to what the hell they just spent all their time and money doing.

So as some people have suggested - you can go do a program and get the basics under your belt.. but you're going to have to do most of the leg work on your own. Like I said, it's not about a degree or your credentials - it's about the experience and the work you've done. Work on everything you can get your hands on. Work as an intern. Work with other people on comic projects. Do anything that has to do with storytelling and drawing. It'll come with time - it won't happen overnight.
