Why is there no Yakuza thread?

;; Does want ;;
English demo's out. I played it and liked it well enough, very repetitive tho. How about the first two? My local Walmart has the first for $20. I'd like to spend less on an older PS2 game, tho.
Get them, the Yakuza games are pretty good; they're practically the soul successors to the Shenmue series.
Also, demos don't always show the full/complete stuff a game has to offer, so there'll be more to it in the full game.
Yakuza 3's coming out in a week or 2 right? Well there goes more of my monies earlier than I expected XD.
BTW the Eng. release will have some stuff cut out…but I don't care, I'd still enjoy it regardless <3
Such as ?
Well I think they removed the hostess bar and a few other minor sidequest like locations.
Not a big deal though so long as the main game is intact…for the most part =3
The hostess bar was in the demo, but the guy said they're not opening till "About the time you buy the full version."
lol, oh and they removed a mahjong mini game as well =/
I wouldn't have mind if they delayed it's release for those stuff but what the hey.
lol, oh and they removed a mahjong mini game as well =/
It was too hard to play anyway one of the missions in Yakuza 2 required you play Mahjong you were shit out of luck if you didn't know how to play.
It sucks they removed the hostess club… was really looking forward to that mini game :( Gonna get it on the release day anyway though. I loved yakuza 2 and yakuza 1 was a solid game too except for the dub.

The problem is that the hostess club minigame wasn't the only thing removed, many of the other side games and areas where you could play things like mahjong and shogi were removed as well. Plus from what I have read on various forums MANY of the relationship quests have been screwed with in the west. I personally am going to go ahead and import the japanese version to support the game and later buy the north american version used to insure sega doesn't get a dime for this incomplete release. I can't tolerate this shit where companies think that westerners are to stupid to grasp Japanese culture. This sort of attitude is what you would expect in the 1990's with the gaming industry. It is unacceptable that there are still some companies who still hold it in freakin 2010. I will NOT support that kind of thinking.
The fuckin' mahjong shit was required to get further in the game, wasn't it? There's probably less than .5% of American's who know how to play that shit. Then there's the Japanese culture quiz. If you're weeaboo enough to know this stuff, good for you, go ahead and import cause you probably know the language enough to understand it as well.
I don't support removal of the hostess club and altering of stuff like relationships, but the other stuff NEEDED, nay, HAD to be removed.
How large is the open world in the Yakuza games? Should I spend the money getting the previous two as well or just go with 3?

Anytime you can't tell the difference between a chinese and japanese you are that stupid.
Excuse me did we just slip 15 years back in time without me realizing!?
I just played a game where Cleopatra climbed a giant phallus and shot aborted fetuses from her vacuous nipples.
AND THEY WANT TO REMOVE HOSTESS CLUBS!?
What the FUCK!?
I need to know the title of that game, Greg. Like, now.
Dante's Inferno .
Shit, I should have guessed. Gonna wait till I'm done with the GoW series before I pick it up, tho.
Whoo hoo, I grabbed Yakuza 2 from a video store closing sale for 12 bucks today! I wanted to get the 1st one, but they opened it up and the case was empty.
I honestly don't even know what the game is about, it's just one of those names I keep hearing about.
Gonna wait till I'm done with the GoW series before I pick it up, tho.
Might not wanna do that…
Dante's Inferno boasts incredible design and it's a lot of fun but something tells me GoW3 will trounce it.
I know it's a GoW ripoff, which is why I don't want to play it until I'm done with all 3 games cause I don't want to be going "I could just be playing GoW right now…" I won't be playing Dante anytime soon, it could very well be 2011 before I give this a play. I don't plan to play all 3 GoW games back to back either, don't wanna burn myself out on the series. I'm gonna do the same with the Prince of Persia trilogy and Metal Gear Solid 1-4, which I own all of buy yet to play.
Some people like to marathon games back to back, for me I feel it ruins the opinion on the earlier titles if you immediately jump into later installments without giving previous titles a chance to sink in.
I dunno if ripoff is exactly the right term. Although some aspects are like…yeah...straight from GoW, there's a lot that's not.
I beat the game in 24 hours. I got Platinum 6 hours beyond that (and would have had it in 3 if I wasn't an idiot).
It`s the definition of a rental. Rent it. Enjoy it. Return it. Wait for Kratos.
24 hours?! That's pretty damn long for an action game. Oh wait, you meant you beat it in a day, right?
I beat it just under a weekend. I'd have done so sooner had it not been for that damn ice platform fight. CHEAP!
Wow, we got off topic… Sooo, Yakuza... Just get 3 or play the first two as well?
Got the game, it's installing game data now as I write, I'm so hyped!!!! Got the special code for 2 players mini games and extra costumes!
EDIT:
Buuhan: You will enjoy the story and characters a lot more if you play the first and second, besides, Yakuza 2 is one of the best games for ps2 (IMO)
I haven't seen 2 in stores, just 1. Is it cheap online?
Should be, in my country it's like 15 bucks online…
Saw a used copy of Yakuza 1 in my local GameStop today and picked it up. $10. No Yakuza 2, tho.
Got some hours clocked in Yakuza 3 now, the story is good, the battles are nice, just so damn disappointed that they removed the hostess clubs, that was my favourite time waster before. :(
The graphics are just ok, kiryus animation does kinda suck, but the city is nice, especially okinawa, really nice atmosphere.
Hope this game will sell better than the prequels so maybe Sega will get Kenzan and Yakuza 4 over here too…
What do you think of Yakuza 1 buuhan?
AND THEY WANT TO REMOVE HOSTESS CLUBS!?
What the FUCK!?
What's the "Hostess Club"? I only played the japanese demo of Yakuza 3.
It isn't that place where you have to befriend hoes, right??
befriend hostess, yes, not whores.
Depends on the club actually ^o^
Oh, I won't be popping in Yakuza 1 for awhile, as tempted as I may be. I think I'd prefer having 2 before I started, cause I think it's only going to get harder to find.
My God, people are really freaking out about the Hostess bar being removed. I can't comment on it, but the Amazon boards are ridiculous. Most people are boycotting the release and going as far as to say the hostess club is a huge chunk of the game and taking it away makes the game shit. Again, I haven't played, but I doubt that's true. Anyone who posts over there interested in the title immediately gets swarmed by these people. I fear what the GameFAQs board's like…
... goes to the GameFAQs board knowing he'll regret it
It wasn't really that important to the game so I don't agree with the sentiment of it's removal ruining the game. It's Funny how people bitched and moaned about the activities you did in GTA 4 but the minute Sega removes hostess clubs from Yakuza 4 shit hits the fan.
The copy I got from GameStop is defected. First time it went past the first opening cinematic then went black, so I wiped it, then it went past the second opening cinematic then went black. This is the only copy they had, so looks to be the first failure GameStop has dealt me. This has happened to DBZ: BT3, but they of course had more copies so I was good.
The Walmart right across the street (yes, literally) has several new copies of Yakuza 1 for $20… but call me stubborn now that I have a PS3, but I refuse to pay that for a PS2 game now. If GameStop can't order another copy from another store or anything and simply refund me, then I guess I won't be playing this series after all unless I can find a good deal on it.
Just buy Yakuza 3 then, you have a short summary of what happend before in the game, and there's a lot of new fans of yakuza who just played yakuza 3 at gamefaqs, and you'll support the chances of Yakuza 4 and kenzan coming to west! Most characters are new anyway, and the story is new also.
EDIT: sega marketing sucks… there's a total of 5 yakuza games released now, it's a big series in japan, they should try to make it big in west too, with lots of publicity, maybe release yakuza 1 and 2 in hd for ps3 like GoW did, and release kenzan to summer and Yakuza 4 to winter, and maybe even port the games to xbox 360 also...
The reviews for yakuza 3 been good so far in west with lots of 8/10 and 9/10, even though its already more than a year old, the series have potential...
Don't ask me how, but GameStop had another copy, so hopefully I'm good to go this time. I wouldn't have bought Yakuza 3, I have a feeling it's probably better than the first and second, but I like to play from the ground up when something does have connecting stories and characters. From the demo in 3 it sounds like the main character is respected, I wanna know exactly why first hand.
But above all else, Yakuza 3 is $60. I'm a cheap ass gamer, I only buy games at introductory/high prices when it's a game I was really looking forward to (No More Heroes 2) and I actually have the money. I can wait on Yakuza 3, also I'm dead broke. Having to pay a $3,000 lawsuit from an unpaid hospital bill and getting laid off from my job has really cramped our money. I'd have bought God of War III and FFXIII already if this wasn't going on.
^ Messed up news.
I'm enjoying the game a lot, I think I'm gonna go play more of it.
Damn. They have Yakuza 3 special edition reduced down to £27 on Zavvi.co.uk
I dunno whether to get it. I have only heard good things about this game. But with XIII and Heart Gold yet to finish and with Assassin's Creed 2 and White knight Chronicles on the way (Again. Both cheap at Zavvi for limited time.) I dunno whether to bother or not :(
I just replayed the demo of Yakuza 3, this time in English.
I really would like to rent this game.
Then after that I played the demo of Yakuza 4.
Shit! There was so much talking… of course, I barely understood a damn thing besides familar phrases.
Just spent $18 on Yakuza 2. That took a bit of a hit after having just spent $50 on LBP: GOTY, Beyond Good and Evil, and PS2/Wii component cables.
Regardless, I say I'm a happy camper once I get over my buyers remorse. I always suffer buyers remorse when I spend money, but it wears off in a day or two.
I just beat the game-
Clocked around 30 hours having completed 47% of the game's content @_@
Overall I really enjoyed the game and the story was OK, though I shed manly tears over
! RIKIYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
WHY DAMNIT WHY! FUCK THE MISSING SUBSTORIES, RIKIYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
Oh and those complaing about removed substories/minigames are a bunch of over-exaggerating dumbasses.
GameStop fucked me with Yakuza 2 like they originally did Yakuza 1. Except this time the game just flat won't read and they have no more copies to replace it with. I spent the whole afternoon toothpasting the damn thing, no change.
Anyone notice just how creepy the PS2's "Please insert a PlayStation or PlayStation 2 disc" error screen is?
Oh and those complaing about removed substories/minigames are a bunch of over-exaggerating dumbasses.
I was annoyed they removed Mahjong since I took the time learn how to play it (and love it) for the previous games. Now I've got Hanafuda down, they'll probably remove it for Yak4 if they bring it over. :getlost:
Anyways, got mini-game master last night. Now THAT'S what I call a real gold trophy.

You learned Mahjong so you can play them in a video game?
…and so what if they remove Hanafuda? It's not like it'll change the game or anything.

Meh, catch a Tuna and I'll be more impressed.
Apparently Haruka's trust level RESETS in premium game mode =_=, oh well at least I got her a kitty…even though she's gonna ask for another one (in which case UFO CATCHERS ARE A FRIGGIN' SCAM)
You learned Mahjong so you can play them in a video game?
Sure, why not? Mahjong was tied to a sub-story and overall game completion and making some real good bank and getting some rare items. Was reason enough for me and hey! I know Mahjong IRL.
…and so what if they remove Hanafuda? It's not like it'll change the game or anything
Well fuck, they could probably remove a whole hell of a lot of miscellaneous side activities and not change the core game all that much, sure, they could strip it down real good for us slack-jawed yokels. But they could at least try have some freakin' content continuity between sequels and not cherry pick stuff to throw out of previous games based on their perception that their fans are a bunch of ten year old drooling morons who can't be exposed to oriental card games and well covered bar maids, OH NO it's just too Japanese.
Meh, catch a Tuna and I'll be more impressed.
Ur…. well, catching a tuna is fishing, which is a mini-game, which you have to complete in order to get a chance to get that mini-game master trophy. So yes, I caught that fish, with not a lot of difficulty if I might add. :)

Well at least you play it IRL, but one wouldn't need to learn how to play any of the gambling or board games in Yakuza to beat them; they could just learn as they play or just go at it randomly (which is what I do with Koi Koi at least).
Does it take a lot of time to get the completion rate for the gambling and board games BTW? Someone I chat with got all trophies in Y3 within 100 hours.

I don't think exposure to oriental culture is the reason; there's enough of the Japanese culture that you can see in the English version and previous games. hell one of the substories requires you to buy 'dugwai', which is Okinawan for Aloe, and there are other Japanese culture stuff in it.
If they remove it then it's prob. due to time constraints, I doubt they'd do it due to oriental culture exposure (I mean for fuck's sake the entire game is exposure to Japanese culture, you won't be losing much by the removal of a few things).
Hell they left in Hanafuda and other mini games that would seem too confusing for non-Japanese players, but even then they could just ignore doing them and focus on the game's main plot, and they wouldn't have missed out on anything.
I'm doing a premium new game now to try and get all substories, but if I find that some require playing those gambling games…eh I'll see if I'm in the mood to beat them.

Then for catching the Tuna I praise you good sir =3 …but only for catching the Tuna.
