Well, nows a better time than any to bring this thread up. Some of you already know abut these but this is for those who don't. Here's some info on two new aquisitions for Viz's Shonen Jump manga lines.

First up is Jojo's Bizzare Adventure which there is going to be a preview for in the July issue of Shonen Jump (American). The manga is written and drawn by Hirohiko Araki and is a fighting manga about people who use super powered manifestatins of their fighting spirits named Stands. Rumour has it that a lot of things are being changed for the american realease of Jojo, including numerous name changes (like changing Jotaro Kujo to Roku. These are possibly because of the countless rock star names the charachters are named after.), various violence edits, and redrawn pages. Another downside is that the Jojo manga will not be published from it's very beginning, but rather at the 3rd saga of the series (The Jotaro kujo Storyline), leaving out the first two (Jonathan Joestar saga and Joseph Joestar saga). The GN's are going into the Shonen Jump Advanced Graphic Novel line. The first volume will be out sometime within the coming 3 months.

Second is the gag comedy manga Bobobo-Bo-Bo-Bobo, written and drawn by Yoshio Sawai. The story follows the adventures of Bobobo a martial artist who uses the art of Hagane Shinken or God Fist of Hair (allowing him to kill enemies with his own body hair). The anime is set to premiere on Cartoon Network's Toonami in the fall. Little is known about this manga's realease, especially if it's going in the Shonen Jump magazine or in a Graphic Novel line, except for the fact that it's being released in October of 2005. I will post more details on this if I find them but for now thats all thats known.

I really dont understand viz… whats the bloody point of their shonen jump "advanced" line if they're going to edit the crap out of stuff in it? The censored nudity in Kinnuikuman nesis and I's, both part of the advanced line. And are you kidding me? Re-drawing pages? Thats just an insult to the artist.

meh, they redrew some stuff from "video girl ai" when it went to tankobon. some of the original pics from jump showed full frontal nudity and it was edited when it went to tankobon (added in underwear)… i was disappointed. ahem the artists know that some of their stuff isn't gonna fly in other regions and stuff...

Agreed. If you can't handle seeing something, don't look at it (people who hate Howard Stern shouldn't care if others like it, so they should stop complainin').

huh?! full frontal nudity on a magazine for kids??? there's gotta be a limit to what can be shown when it's targeted towards kids.

I agree with ooshi. I don't think it'd be good to have crotch shots in Jump. Though, I do kinda get annoyed when censorship strikes something I like. :P

It happens on Japanese, too. I remember HxH showed some violent scene or something in magazine, but was painted black when it became Tanko. You can see it on v19. HxH Tanko is still better than magazine though. So Shuei-sha is insulting the artist, too? shrugs

now as a perverted kid i didn't mind at all… but if a third grader buys jump for dragonball and the next story is video girl ai with full nudity, i'm not sure you can say "don't read it if you don't like it". you gotta remember that jump is "shounen jump" shounen=boy

I've seen tons of instances with frontal nudity censorship but it is kinda stupid. In american Jump and it's SJ graphic Novels, you can hardly see but a small bit of female nudity but it seems like male nudity is fine (Ala Goku's penis appearing various times, Naked Naruto, some kids in a Shaman King page etc.). I guess they sensor the female nudity because it's a mag targeted at boys but a good portion of girls read Jump too. Actually the only instances I have ever seen where it slips through is once when Naruto used Sexy no Jutsu and you could see his dopplegangers asses and in the SJ Graphic Novels in Dragonball when Kurrirun pulled down Bulma's shirt. It also seems that they chose to leave the male nudity in sometimes and take it out others, like in Shaman King when they edited Ponchi's nuts into his stomach but in all early Dragonball volumes, male nudity runs rampant!

I never got why they changed it to his stomach…

Personally, they should change the rating to "7 and up" instead of "13 and up" seeing as they're trying to attract that age group. I just feel a little lied to when they have that rating... y'know?

They'll also "puss down" any villain that seems to evil too. I guarantee when Arlong finally appears in American Jump in july, he's even worse than 4kids Arlong.

Hey, now I remember that somebody said DB is also edited so that it won't show Goku's private part… Is that true?

And that's one of the reasons why Doraemon isn't licensed in N.A. Too much nudity. Or that's what I heard. Wtf.

DB was originally uncut, then Viz had to edit it because of complaints, around 2000. Then, around 2003, it became uncut again.

The anime is always edited for television, but the DVDs are just fine.

Yep, it's true. There's so many scenes of Goku's penis that you cant count them on both hands and feet. They show every one of them but they can't show any boobs?! Damn you VIZ! They were there for a reason…NAKED TITTIE ACTION!

Maybe they show gender-specific nudity to the targeted audience? Sounds dumb, but they show male nudity in the shonen titles and female nudity in the shojo titles (such as Inuyasha). Sumpin' pointless to ponder :lol: …

Inuyasha is an shonen manga, It runs in Shonen Sunday in japan, for the two new mangas coming our way Jojo is going to be preview in the next issue of Jump here.

It's a "Shonen Love Story" manga….quite frankly, my least favorite in Shonen Sunday. Kurouzakurou, Gash Bell, and Detective Conan kick Inuyasha's ass!

I sort of agree with that, but I don't understand the point when the series is being marketed for older readers, i.e. the SJ Advance series.

Anyway I've actually been interested in reading Bobobo-Bo-Bo-Bobo for a while now, and I've heard of Jojo a few times and wouldn't mind reading it if I get the chance. While I am annoyed at the fact both series may get censored, I might still look into reading both series, even though I already read ten other series.

Well, shit. Here goes another good manga to add to the list. Just got the news today from toriyamaworld.com that Takeshi Obata and Ooba Tsugumi's Shonen Horror / Mystery manga Death Note had been liscnsed by VIZ LLC. I have no deatils about the release of Death Note right now but it does seem like VIZ has been snatching up all the good titles as of late. So far, here's new manga that atre going to be released sometime in the summer to winter seasons of 2005:

Bobobo-Bo-Bo-Bobo
Death Note

I wonder what other aquistitions VIZ is gonna get because in the past three months, they've grabbed up three manga. If you want proff of the article go to Toriyama's World and on the main pages news, look at the post titled "Mac Rules Your Face". More info on Death Note as soon as it comes up.

BOBOBO UPDATE!! various websites I have searched have said that the buzz going around is that Bobobo will probobly go in the mag to fill the empty space that DBZ left. Bobobo, as said before, has been sited for an October 2005 debut…around the time that the anime premiers on Toonami.

Hmm. Both Jojo and Bobobo… um... bo... interest me, so I'll likely be buying the graphic novels. Same goes with Death Note. I'll just be a bit bummed if they rename Jojo "Roku." That would kind of defeat the purpose, wouldn't it?

I hate it when Viz censors stuff… They're really messing with the author's artwork! Also, Shonen Jump is not for kids! It clearly has a "13+" label. If some 7 year old gets it because it has Yugi on the cover, the parents really shouldn't complain as they should have known better....
Also, I laugh at Viz because I was checking out some scanlations for I''S and there is some nudity they really can't edit out... I wonder how they'll get out of this without offending parents!

Are you sure they are putting JoJo in? I know next month there is a PREVIEW. Not necessarily meaning that it will be in the SJ.

Volume 1 is simply….coming out, it seems. And there's he length of it all, so I strongly doubt it'll run in SJ.

No, from what I can gather here's how these three manga are going to be handled.

Jojo's Bizzare Adventure: Graphic Novel series in the Shonen Jump Advanced Line.

Bobobo-Bo-Bo-Bobo: Premiering in October. VIZ is leaning toward possibly putting it in Shonen Jump to fill the empty slot that Dragonball Z left. Will be released around the time that the anime premiers on Toonami.

Death Note: NEW INFO ONTHE DEATH NOTE RELEASE! Also premiering in October of 2005. Set to be a graphic novel series in the Shonen Jump or SJ Advanced Lines. More than likely it will go into the Shonen Jump Adavnced Graphic Novel line because of its dark storylines.

Also, for those who aren't familiar with the series, here's a small summary fo the Death Note story.

Death Note (デスノート) is a Japanese manga series written by Tsugumi Ooba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata (of Hikaru no Go fame). It has been serialized by Shueisha in Weekly Shonen Jump since the first 2004 issue. It is increasing in popularity in Japan. Currently, 64 chapters have been released. The manga took a 7 week break before the second story arc started. Six graphic novels have been released. The Death Note manga has been licensed by Viz and will be published in graphic novel form starting in October 2005. the story revolves around Light Yagami (known by the name Kira to the rest of the world which is also a pun on words because it is the romaji pronounciation of "killer".) who is a young but bright high school student who has until recently led a boring and uneventful life. That changed very quickly when he found a strange notebook with the title "Death Note" written in english lying on the ground one day. It wasn't until later that he realized that this "Death Note" was the tool of a Shinagami ("Death God" in Japanese…and my own personal username :D ) from another world named Ryuku, and that it had the power to kill whoever's name was written on its pages (one stipulation though, the person(s) would all die of heart attacks unless you also wrote the cause of death too), so long as the writer knew the victim's face as well. Light realizes he then has the ability to kill whomever he wishes, and he uses it to begin a "cleansing" of the world from evil. It does not take the police long to realise that somebody is responsible for the mysterious deaths of criminals, and he is then soon hunted by the Japanese police force and a mysterious detective known as "L". An anime series based on the manga is set to be produced as well. Not much is known on which animation production company will be doing it but more than likely it will be Studio Pierrot, the animation studio that handled Obata's previous hit "Hikaru no Go."

There going to make an anime of Death Note great! Now back to the topic, I hope they dont mess up Death Note, its one of the best Mangas out there. Unlike other mangas its focus on the story than action( I even had to reread some pages to know what was going on).

Yeah, I hope it gets treated a lot better than some of the previous translations they've done. I was pissed when they changed Kinnikuman Nisei to Ultimate Muscle and made Kinniku Mantaro into Kid Muscle

Well since Death Note is more serious then Kinnikuman(Both in story and art) I think it will get a better translation. But one thing I wouldnt mind them changing is Lights name back to Raito, but it looks like it will still be Light.

Yeah, it probobly will be Light but Raito does sound cooler. I hope to god it gets a decent translation. Bobobo and Jojo too. I hope that they don't fuck Bobobo up too bad with some of the jokes.
