When I first read One Piece (chapter 2 in American SJ) I thought it was really stupid. I thought the drawings were really kiddy and Luffy was a complete idiot with this Gum-Gum thing. BUT! I really started to love ONe PIece the moment Zoro appeared. I just thought he was the coolest looking man ever! and I continued to read in ASJ and Zoro became my favorite character. Then the Buggy Arc commenced, And I thought it was really stupid again.. Buggy was just a wierd Clown and I never thought Buggy was cool until Zoro fought with the Acrobat. Then Luffy's fight wasn't that great either. I continued to read because I knew Zoro would do something cooler and I still didn't understand Luffy, till I bought the First Issue and it explained Luffy's Past, which I thought was interesting but I still didn't think Luffy was that interesting. I then stopped reading ASJ due to a money problem :D . But later started to read agian as I bought older Issues as well as current ones. I got to half way up the Captain Kuro Arc when I decided to read ahead (one month for 2 chapters come on!) I then read scanaltions till Skypeia and I was loving every moment of it. I stopped reading in Alabasta because I was caught up in several series that soon became a waste of time cough, naruto, cough I began to read again till the site I used stopped scanning and I had to search for a new site. Once I did I read more but stopped due to time and Other Series in the way. Just about a month ago, I began to read again and just caught up recently, and I am now a great fan of One PIece and glad I found AP.

An ex-boyfriend of mine used to buy the manga volumes back in 1998ish, prior to the anime's premiere. I looked through them, but being that neither of us could read it, and the art style was cute, but strange (we're talking the first few volumes here) I opted to buy my Kenshin tankabons instead.

In 02, shortly after I started dating Monty, the American SJ was released. I saw some of the same pages I had seen years ago, and this time, I could read them! After that, I had a fondness for the series, but I didn't get around to watching it. At Yuricon 03, these guys we met told us that Monty and I should cosplay Sanji and Nami respectively. Monty was curious, and next time we were in China Town, he bought the anime up to Baratie. I watched the first three episodes with him, I didn't dislike it, but it also didn't really grab me to obsession point just yet.

So then Katsucon 04 rolled around, and there was going to be an 80s pirate dance. I made a half joking suggestion a week before the con that Monty and I should go as Sanji and Luffy….and we ended up doing it. In that week leading up to Katsucon, I decided to watch as much of the series as possible (in between all the other shit I had to do) The first ep I could download was 55, the beginning of Apis. Now, while the Apis arc is crap, and after a while it gets mad annoying, this was the first time I had seen the whole original crew assembled and interacting with each other. It was also the first time I saw Sanji. I fell in love with all of them, especially Sanji. The con came and went, I continued to watch, and Monty showed me the Baratie episodes. Then, I managed to find the Arlong arc.

...It was all down hill from there. I was utterly in love with the character of Nami, I loved the dynamics between all the crew members, and the story from Baratie on was awesome. From there in, I became involved in some of the 'shipper fandoms, first for NamixSanji, which while I still love it to death, soon gave way to an even deeper love for ZoroxNami. I started writing fan fiction, making costumes, and making AMVs. And visiting Arlong Park. And meeting the people from the site at cons. And hanging out on their forums. And making sure people behaved in the h-section. And...uh yeah, you can figure the rest ^^* That's about it. I guess I'm really still pretty much a newb, but in the sort time that I've been totally into this series, I've probably done more than I have for almost any other fandom I've been in. With a few exceptions, the One Piece fandom is over all a wonderful place, filled with cool people ^^

I first heard of One Piece years ago when I was watching a spoiler video for Digimon Adventure 02. They first showed screens from the One Piece anime. All I remember is seeing some guy in a straw hat stretch his arms and legs and punch people and didn't really pay it any mind. I completely forgot about it a month later.

Then when I bought my first issue of Shonen Jump(issue 10), I saw the straw hat guy on the inside of the cover and remembered the video I had watched about a year and a half before. I then read m first three chapters of One Piece in that issue. It was the conclusion to Luffy vs. Buggy. My thoughts on it was "It's an ok series, really kid friendly." I instantly fell in love with Naruto though.

As the months went by, I became a Narutard(I admit it!) and started reading online Naruto scans. Some of my friends said that One Piece is much better than Naruto. I laughed right in their faces and told then how much Naruto pwned One Piece. They said I couldn't say that unless I had at least read up to the end of the Arlong arc. So after weks of their badgering, I took them up on their deal and agreed to read up till Arlong. I was convinced that when I finished reading the Arlong arc, I'd still think Naruto was better though.

When I had decided to read ahead, the American SJ was in the middle of the Kuro arc. I read the rest of it online and thought it was much better than that horrible Buggy arc, but still couldn't compare to Naruto. I really didn't know how this series would be able to compare to Naruto's greatness, but that was before I knew about Sanji.

When I read the Krieg arc, One Piece just exploded, lost the kiddieness and became so much more badass. Sanji immediately became my favorite character and Zoro vs. Mihawk immediately became my favorite fight. I loved how the entire staff at Baratie were all badass fighting chefs and was amazed at Sanji's past and lovd Sanji's send-off scene. It was around here that I achknowledged One Piece to be a great series and much better than I originally thought, but still not as good as Naruto. But then I read the Arlong arc. It only took a few chapters for me to say "Fuck Naruto! This shit's MUCH better!" Plus I read the Arlong arc at the same time I started reading the post-Chuunin Exam chapters of Naruto, so it was there my servere hatred of Naruto began and my ever-growing love of One Piece started.

I didn't even need my friends to get me to read the scans anymore, I read them on my own free will. I took a few breaks here and there and now I just finished Alabasta(my favorite saga so far) and am now on about chapter 221. I also stopped reading Naruto scans months ago. I swear I look back on myself and realize how much of a an idiot I was for obsessing over such a mediocore series like Naruto. I really owe it to my friend's and to Oda-san's masterpiece for showing me the light and making One Piece my 3rd favorite manga series(the first two being Trigun Maximum and of course, Rurouni Kenshin)

Ah, this is quite a long story…

Alas, once upon a time (few years back), the ninth volume of the "Sacred Scrolls" were lent to a young boy...The middle of Arlong Park, and the beginning of my journey to the Magical Realm begin.

Ah, forget it.

So, I first saw One Piece being advertised on the back of another manga that I bought: NGE. The style struck me as funny and new. I was getting sick of all the bishie-tastic tone-crazy no-story and generic mangas out there (Flame of Recca, I still hate you). So when my friend lent me a copy of volume 9, I was expecting something different.

And different it was. The design! Arlong's features, clothes and style is so totally new and original that I couldn't put that volume down. And then I saw my first StrawHat: Usopp. I was amazed, amused and awestruck. What could be more genious? That man is still my favorite fictional character.

With a very interesting story, character interaction that's entertaining and crazy concepts, I fell in love with the series. I couldn't help but trying to get the scanlations for the previous chapters, and I'm glad I did. The tragic pasts of the characters made me think to no end: Why the heck did I ever postpone reading this?

And so here I am, an Usopp fan, an Oda worshipper.

Ah, I first heard of One Piece about two years ago. However I only I started watching a year and a few months ago. I can't even remember why I checked it out, I generally wasn't into Shonen at the time… I think perhaps a friend forced me into it, luckily I listened. I started with the anime first (After I caught up with the subs during the Alabasta filler, I then read the manga at an amazing pace. Almost 28 volumes in like 3 days)

At first I thought it was very weird, not really good or bad. The animation kind of made me wonder why the hell I was watching it, but there was just something about Luffy and his goofy ass grin, plus the whole idea of Pirates that I really liked. I wasn't obsessed right away, and when it came to the Usopp story, I really had a tough time getting through it for some reason. I can't place it, but I stopped watching it around episode 11 for a few weeks, then decided to pick it up again on a whim. I got through Usopp's part (and ended up enjoying it when all was said and done) and it was pretty much down hill there for me. Although it wasn't until Arlong Park when I seriously went "Holy Shit! This fucking rocks!" to myself.

The animation I once thought was a down side was now just part of the uniqueness. Seeing that it just wasn't another <insert generic="" shonen="" here="">, that it had a neat story and real character depth to it was surprising. The fact that it can be so silly sometimes, and then turn 180° was really unlike anything else I had seen. The idea of "nakama" and seeing the character dynamics... I love all the characters, but it was Luffy who first drew me in and he remains my favourite. I really want a Luffy replica straw hat :lol:

Isn't this kind of like the "how you got into One Piece" thread? :P Well, I answered that on the old forum, so I guess I can say it again.

The first time I heard of One Piece was from an anime magazine, though I don't remember exactly which one. There was an article called "the top 10 unlicensed anime" (at the time, that is). I seem to recall that One Piece was either #1 or #2, the other top one was Naruto. One piece caught my attention a little more than Naruto, probably because Luffy looked rather unique with the strawhat, but not enough to go seek it out.

Then, One Piece was licensed by 4Kids, and people on another forum started throwing tantrums about it. Based on what people were saying, I became interested in seeing a comparison of the original with the most likely to be horrible version that was about to come out. So, as much as I hate to admit it, 4Kids is partly responsible for me getting into One Piece. <_< I started downloading fansubs around the time it started airing on TV. I honestly didn't really even think I was going to keep watching it. In fact, I almost gave up after episode 8. But then came Usopp, and I fell in love, and the rest is history. :D Well, actually, I really, REALLY got hooked on the show when Arlong Park came around. But I definately gotta give Usopp credit for saving my interest at one of the slower points in the series. :D

Then around the time I got to Arabasta, I started reading manga scanlations, until Null went to IRC and I switched to raws with translations.

Compared to a lot of people here, I guess I'm fairly new to One Piece. I'm about 8 or 9 months old. :o Kind of wish I had jumped in sooner.

well LONG story well maybe short…oh well:

first i went into speedy(video shop) with my friend and he found a one piece DVD of movie 2 and he told me all about it and the rubber man, luffy. i thought COMPLETLY IDIOTIC! then when i was reading through shonen jump i saw one piece and began to read it, then when i read it, it wasn't bad (begining of kuro arc) then i read the previous issues and it was so good! then i found my cousins also liked it then i watched it and NOW IM A BIG FAN OF ONE PIECE!!

i was boared so decided to watch an anime so i asked a friend to give me a nice anime and he gave me one piece first 20 episodes. in the beggining i thought its stuped but when action started i fell in love with it and when arlongpark came i got the rest of the episodes and im not kidding you it took me 5 days to finish it

5 days!!!!!! to finish One Piece. Wow.

The first time i laid eyes on One Piece was at a site called Animenfo. Lots of people were giving it excellent reviews and it scored really well overall.

I had finished watching FMA and Fullmoon and was running out of ideas, so i decided to give One Piece a go. I was hooked from episode 1, it was too unique to dislike. :lol:

I'd heard and seen various things about it (more detail in the other thread), but I was just annoyed with Viz. I remember thinking "it's been a year now, and Usopp is just punching Kuro." I knew of him because of a few sites. So, I somehow stumbled onto KF. It was around Winter Break, so I got to see the first 70 eps, 2 films, and special before I had to go back to school. I also saw ep 178 raw at some point. My interest had laid low for a few weeks, and then I decided to pick the manga up, and that led to where I am now.

A long time ago…February,2000.I was in the beach,and I went to the town center to buy some comics.I bought one because it was talking about Pokemon(Yeah,that´s the time of Poke Fever...)...Then I read about the year previews...not bad,some good games,somthing about Hunter X Hunter and...One Piece.I thought..."So weird...this guy(Luffy)are crazy weird..."...................so I forgot it in a little months...

February,2002.Fushigi Yuugi and One Piece has been released in Brazil.I wanted to buy....Fushigi!So I went to the Comic Book store and saw One Piece..."hmmm...interesting...no!"I bought the shoujo.One month later,in a great night,I went with my dad at supermarket,and I told to him to stop in a store before we back at home.So I bought the first One Piece issue.Cool...but no much...then more four months later I´ve decided finally:Yeah!I´ll start to collect it!

Well I think that when I first laid my eyes on the different assortments of characters (sanji, luffy, and nico robin) I thought it looked interesting. I actually looked at the art works and fell in love with it (through some recent ark). I thought I'd try a read sometimes like 1 year ago (and a half), yes and thats how i ended up the person I am now.

Another reason is that I love shonen manga so much :3
