One thing that bugs me about America is that society puts such an emphasis on science and math as measurements of intelligence. That's not a bad thing, necessarily, but students are usually only thought to be "smart" if they excel at science and/or math.
A student could write a brilliant English paper, or be a walking encyclopedia, but will almost ALWAYS be overlooked in favor of the student who can rattle off problems quickly or makes an impressive science project.
i feel the same way, but, i can see how people feel that way. being good at english is kind of hard to show off, i mean, its easy to have good grammar, but when you start rattling off equation after equation, that looks impressive, and if you write a good story, people just tell you you have a good imagination, they don't associate it with smarts.
