Maybe the series could switch off showing both sides of the story, a main protagonist from the maruhage empire and a main protagonist from the hair kingdom. Could that work?

Might be a tad complex for what is essentially a gag kingdom. If this was some serious series, I probably wouldn't mind as much…but as a gag series, I just wonder how it would work.
As for the latest translated chapter: remember this word: "konpeitou". What is it? That's Don Patch's ancestor! (basically the dub had it as "rock candy", which it essentially is...but technically, konpeitou is a sugar candy with spikes all over created in a slow process and originally brought to Japan by Portugese missionaries in the 16th Century). Otherwise, most of the section was the awakening of Bo-bobo's "Super(market)" power...cool stuff.
-
so bobobo got the pimped out jacket?
-
so bobobo got the pimped out jacket?
Pretty much. Basically though I sort of never got the whole idea of the jacket until I translated it but it's this: Bo-bobo's training was essentially riding around on a supermarket cart for a ton of laps while being lead by a packaged of sliced tuna. (its like all of his teachers are inanimate objects, considering his "Hanage Shinken" teacher was a can of juice) The jacket is proof of his training but it doesn't activate until Bo-bobo realizes the love that he has for his team, giving him the power akin to the love of all the supermarkets in Japan. (thus why he's "super" Bo-bobo)
-
…. also the jacket is about $8 or so :)
i always found that to be hillarious
-
he bought the jacket at BIGLOTS (it's a cheap convience store where I live, you may or may not know about it)
-
he bought the jacket at BIGLOTS (it's a cheap convience store where I live, you may or may not know about it)
Technically, the jacket is proof of training, but he forces Beauty to pay for it since its still something he has to purchase. Its sort of weird that one would need to go through training and buy proof instead of actually being given it. But still…582 yen is cheap so it was worth the price.
Translation Update: Working through the Ujikin TOKIO fight now...and realizing that it wasn't as fun as I expected thanks to Hatenko and Chisuisui. At least the previous chapter had the big reveal of the remaining block leaders (well except Rem but she probably wanted to work in a bit more sleep before getting to work). There were pretty much two things going through my head with that reveal:
-Hanpen is cool from moment one! (blasting all the subordinates like nothing to force them out)
-Sawai pulled a fast one by making Combat Blues seem "normal" at first. (he actually looked serious and referred to "those two" for his Sangaria...but of course, "those two" turn out to be girls in swimsuits...he is such a pervert) -
I got the new jump magazine that had the start of the former maruhage empire arc and noticed the titanic joke in it, I lol'd so hard my sides were hurting. I wish they would put at least 2 chapters a month for bobobo in the serialization.

The Titanic bit was the best. As I said prior, I didn't even realize the "standing on the car" bit was Titanic until after the fact when Don Patch and Tennosuke start calling each other Jack & Rose! (after the Former Maruhage minions blow it up) With all the weird references they have in Japanese culture, an American one can catch me off guard.
Translation Update: The last few days have been gold: got through Combat Blues, Jeda (Tennosuke's mecha was brilliant, Patchbobo…great but more for the combos..and I found yet another Kinnikuman reference I didn't realize until I read more about it) & currently in the midst of the coin game (specifically at the point where the Rem fight really heats up...it's convenient that the first fighter who is practically immune to Serviceman is always asleep to miss the service)
-
About serviceman I know his first appearance is during the gunkan arc but is he part of gunkans group? or just some random ass character?
-

It's really hard to determine. Essentially Serviceman is probably working on his own but somehow I think that he was working with Gunkan for a while seeing how he was guarding the exterior of the Pomade Ring and tried to attack Heppokomaru again inside. Since he becomes more "heroic" later, my only guess is that Gunkan convinced Serviceman to help him out thinking that protecting the Pomade Ring and the empire's interests in Pupuu City were crucial and therefore "good". (then again, Gunkan himself was using the empire by destroying them from the inside for his own interests so he could have hired Serviceman for interests as a "Hair Hunter fighter" instead of as a "Maruhage Empire Heavenly King") Once he, and ultimately Gunkan, were defeated, Serviceman just went back to doing what he felt but was pretty much somehow on Bo-bobo's side from then on.
Oh, and another funny bit I remembered from my recent translations: Dengaku Man the plastic model. (and Tennosuke the "model-building otaku")
-
he sure has an odd way of helping out.
-

It's bizarre but I do think that Serviceman is probably good from day one. (sick but good)
-
I love how bobobo's allies consist of old enemy's
that's priceless. -
I love how bobobo's allies consist of old enemy's
that's priceless. That's most shonen though. Think about DB for a moment: the only character that are allies that weren't resentful, had an edge or were just evil towards Goku from day one were his sons Gohan and Goten! Though…at least in Bo-bobo's case, most of these former enemies have their own bizarre styles...or are just bizarre...
Translation Update: Only one more chapter of Rem left to go! Somehow I've equated her at this point as a cuter Freddy Kruger thanks to her abilities...though the part where she sped up time making Tennosuke get packaged into a gift pack and shipped was brilliant.

I just finished scanlating chapter 50 i'm going by the name of KA-TET SCANS since ka-tet means one as many or many as one. I got that from Stephen Kings Dark Tower series.

I suggest that once 47-49 go up (which should be the Gunkan fight), just pop right in and release 50. Thing is I don't know how the other two groups are going to take it.
Currently, my translating is stalled since I"m doing it on weekends (and thus doing Kinnikuman during the week), but I did finish the Hanpen fight. And let's say I felt more sympathy for him than I did for Tenbobo running all over him! (though Tennosuke at the end taking the "Food King" belt was brilliant)
-
I'm planning on doing at least 4 chapters than I won't be doing any scanlating for another 4 weeks. I take 3 weeks drawing 3 chapters for one of my manga's than a week drawing for another one of my manga's than on the 5th week I do bobobo scans. A couple of quick questions 1:
! during the dengakuman arc which I believe is Z block correct? bobobo fights this guy in a TV realm, the guy has alot of flashlights on him and he dissintegrates bobobo, Bobobo than shows up as some weird looking guy with round glasses a nappy afro that has two horns popping out of it what's that release called?
2
! who are the other fighters from the OVER arc? I know one is rice but who in the hell is the big lipped ninja dude and the samurai mouse? -
The Mouse-Chuunosuke
Big Lips-Ochoboguchi-kunDid you guys know that Sawai is doing another JUMP manga

! who are the other fighters from the OVER arc? I know one is rice but who in the hell is the big lipped ninja dude and the samurai mouse?! 1. The Bo-bobo TF during the Shou Mei fight is "Bo-bobo Double Twin Mark-II 2nd. (yes, it's a lot of twos)
2. The stuff with Chuunosuke and Ochoboguchi (who you were talking about) is somewhat OVER..but not. Chuunosuke is Hajike Block, Ochoboguchi is OVER.As for Sawai's new series…already preparing most likely to translate chp. 1 of Chagecha this weekend when it comes out (if no one else does it or wants to do it).
-
So.. bobobo is pretty much just randomness right? theres not like a very important message or plot correct?
i read it in shonen and laugh at the randomness of the jokes..but other then that i don't know much of the backstory on bobobo

Bo-bobo is…well, there is a plot pretty much but its thread-thin in order to carry from one bizarre scenario to another. Sawai does try to add more depth later, sometimes it worked and others it didn't.

Chp. 1 comes out this week. I may create a thread when the chapter is out, though I don't expect much of it since…well Jump's notorious record of cancelling and ranking and such. I mean, Bo-bobo wasn't really known here until it was a success, with this we may be getting something that's amazing but could be a quick run if the fans don't like it.
-
Sawai's fairly established now, so I don't think the Shueisha will sweat him too much, even if it's received poorly initially. Not to mention, Jump editors have been fairly preferential towards gag-manga in the past.
So, I think it'll be given a better opportunity to garner popularity and really get going, unlike a few other series as of late. Anyways, I trust you'll be gracing us with a translation, Tokoro?

Hope to. As I see it, if anyone else does Chagecha chp. 1, I'll just follow along until I'm needed. But I may put aside my other projects to get a chp. 1 translation once it comes out and see if anyone bites.
BTW: I'm not worried about Sawai's reputation, since Bo-bobo gave him relevance and respect. The problem is that just because you have one hit series doesn't mean you're going to get another in the same magazine. Not too many mangaka strike twice in Jump, and those who usually do (off the top of my head: Toriyama, Togashi, Katsura, Kurumada, possibly Watsuki and Yabuki if you define "Busou Renkin" and "To Love-Ru" as hits) are legends.

I would love to do the scanlation for chagecha. Hopefully no one will beat me to it.

sorry for double posting….I just finished scanlating chapter 51 of bobobo

Hmm…thing is I just hope no one else really ends up upset if you do start posting these chapters. Should I warn anyone else on the other two scanslation boards that you're doing this or else you'll end up ignored like the other guy who translated a couple Bo-bobo chapters?
BTW: My quota for the weekend is done: two chapters translated, both the beginning of the final battle with Tsuru Tsurulina the 3rd...well the original final battle, not the Shinsetsu one.
-
If you wouldn't mind that or I can do it myself…what are the other two message boards?

Edit: For those who can't wait for me, the first Shinsetsu chapter is currently on Jumpland's website in English. (www.jumpland.com). The first chapter of Chagecha will be there too soon.

I hope they don't get upset…..we need more bobobo scanlators anyways. Hell even if it meant for one group to do a volume each.

The other guys seemed like they were going back and forth between two chapters a piece. My guess is they were eventually going to get through it all but who knows how long that would have taken. Besides, this is partially my own doing encouraging you to start with the Hatenko arc.
-
hmmm…I'll finish hatenko off than i'll just skip ahead to the begining of the former maruhage arc and go from there all the way to the end. That way by the time they even get to their i'll have everything down and i'll release it as one big bundle. I have a question on character names.
! during the former maruhage arc softon, torpedo girl and hatenko are attacked by three guys, a guy with an x scar on his forhead, A guy wearing a ramen bowl of soup a-top his head and a weird looking art student type of guy, what's the weird looking art student guys name?

! Samurai Guy: Yagyuu
"Art Student": Model
Ramen Head: Sanzennen
! Any reason to know those three?BTW: Just wondering, why do you want to do all of the Hatenko arc? There really isn't that much of it (dependant on how far you think it is, since we have three mini-stories in said arc) and it could free the others to do some other stuff (like say, Z-Block or Hajike Block) but I do wonder. Oh, and if you sort of release Former Maruhage, will you release it after all the other stuff is done or alongside it?

Actually i'm not sure if I want to do all of the hatenko arc to be honest. But I do want to start doing the Former Maruhage arc. I'd release this once everything else is done. I find the hatenko part of bobobo to be a bit boring. Not to mention Purupuu has to be my least favorite out of the big 4.
! I want to draw model but didn't know that was his name and after I draw a character, I usually put there name somewhere on the page just incase someone who is not familiar with the series won't think that it's one of my original creations, it took me 2 weeks to find out what hanpens name was, lol

To tell the truth, I didn't like the Hatenko arc either outside a couple things:
-Don Patch annihilating Purupuu (though Lamune isn't too bad even if she did little or nothing)
-The near end of the Evil Blood Mansion arc where Don Patch and Bo-bobo seem to power up…only to find out they were in another room and the power ups were seperate characters. -
I thought on the purupuu part was the only part that was the hatenko arc. The bloody mansion part confused the hell out of me.
EDIT: so I made my final decision i'm just going to skip all the way to the former maruhage arc and start scanlating from there. By the time they get done with hatenko, robo block, z block, hajike block, over, halekulani and cyber city. I should be done with former maruhage. I'm not to sure if I will do the tournament, reverse maruhage and hair kingdom. Are there any arcs that i'm missing? -

I'm not to sure if I will do the tournament, reverse maruhage and hair kingdom. Are there any arcs that i'm missing? Here's how I quantify the arcs myself:
-Introduction (pretty much all of vol. 1 where we meet Bo-bobo, Beauty, Don Patch and get hints of Heppokomaru and Gunkan)
-C-Block (All of Vol. 2 and the first chp. of vol. 3 since I sort of group Heppokomaru's training bit as one section)
-A-Block (Pretty much from the chapter Bo-bobo grows the amusement park to Tennosuke's defeat to Bobopatch)
-Gunkan (Essentially all the Gunkan chapters but I also put "Don Patch's job search" with it too since it leads to Gunkan's intro)
-Hatenko (From the moment Hatenko appears through about…well it gets hard. The Purupuu and Evil Blood Mansion parts are obviously the Hatenko arc since he's still somewhat a key focus in regards to the events. The problem is Robo-Block: the anime has it literally as Z-Block's front entrance but I sort of see it as seperate from Z-Block as sort of continuing along the lines of Hatenko ruining everything. So basically that part is up in the air but I put it with the Hatenko arc to give it a little more)
-Z-Block (Where things start getting simple: from arrival to Dengaku Man's defeat)
-Hajike Block (Simple enough but the connection to the next arc is there thanks to some of the events...but essentially I just give it through the defeat of Rice)
-OVER (from Ochoboguchi's arrival to the final defeat of OVER..and when I mean final, I mean after he changes back from Torpedo Girl)
-Halekulani (things start getting simple here: from the first chapter of the train ride to Halekulani's defeat)
-Cyber City (simpler still: Heppokomaru's capture to the defeat of Giga)
-Former Maruhage (Now things start getting a little weird: the first chapter of Former Maruhage starts as a Cyber City epilogue...but once the former soldiers appear, that's when it just flows all the way to the defeat of the 3rd)And now spoilers for the last two for those who don't want to know yet:
! -Reverse Maruhage (Considering we pretty much meet Hydrate from the first chapter of the tournament segment, I consider that as part of this arc. So pretty much it goes through to his defeat…however, the ending once again gets strange. The last bit of story is in the first half of the chapter after Hydrate's defeat...just before Hatenko finally remembers his mission. But it gets weirder: there's an omake that is essentially an epilogue to the whole Reverse Maruhage saga but that occurs pretty much after the events of the chapter I mentioned...which as I said before, literally ends with the beginning of Hair Kingdom. It's a bit of bleeding and you could consider it part of Reverse Maruhage but it's up to you)
-Hair Kingdom (The arc begins wherever you see fit, whether it's the second half of the chapter with the Reverse Maruhage conclusion preceding it...or the chapter after that and the epilogue chapter. But ultimately the arc ends with the end of the original series.)I hope that helps…meanwhile with the second Chagecha chapter not out yet, I might as well do a Bo-bobo translation tonight to get closer to the end of the "unscanned volume".
-
thanks for clearing all that up ataru and what's this about a unscanned bobobo volume?
-
thanks for clearing all that up ataru and what's this about a unscanned bobobo volume?
We've found scans of all 21 Bo-bobo volumes…except vol 15. (which essentially is the last two chapter of Hanpen, all the fight against Tsurulina the 3rd and the beginning of Reverse Maruhage with the "Maruhage Tournament" preliminaries) While someone probably can scan it between now and then, I've had to translate this differently than the stuff before and after it. (also explaining why it's only being done on weekends and why I'm doing Kinnikuman during the week)
Meanwhile, I finally finished two more of the 3rd Fight...and I've noticed that Tennosuke's status just gets worse and worse in this fight, particularly once OVER returns. Oh...and Don Patch is going to rap...again.

I was wondering about the Bobobo/Dragonball parody where Don Patch and Jelly Jiggler re-enact the fight with Goku and Vegeta. Is it part of the Manga or is it some sort of special, and can I read it online somewhere?

I think the chapter was on a DB page somewhere from what I saw but it is republished in the final volume of Shinsetsu so it may be published again. I think it was probably put in a one-shot with Jump like an Akamaru Jump or something similar…most Bo-bobo omake were. (except the Bo-bobo/Death Note collaberation)

I have the raw for volume 15

Sorry for not responding back but I got good news: Former Maruhage is finally over translationwise! Next up…the UNDER-Maruhage!? (I'm thinking of calling them that since "Ura" also stands for "Under" or "underground") But hey, at least the new stuff is within view finally!
-
wait…..I thought people called them Reverse Maruhage Empire. We are talking about Hydrate, Byakko and Bi-bibi right?
