Well, I don't think he's that funny. His facial expressions are great, but the nonsensical cursing, un-witty narration, and lame slapstick… I probably would have loved it back in middle school or something, but I don't think he's very good at all.
Now, Zero Punctuation, that shit's hysterical. A hundred times better than the Angry Video Game Nerd.

If you guys want stale, check out Irate Gamer. He's pretty much gotten worse when people started to realize he was ripping off AVGN's ideas and had to actually come up with his own material in order to derail those claims.

Love this guy. I don't think he's hilarious per say, just really entertaining. It also helps that his videos are usually very well-composed and have a high production value in comparision to most of the shit out there.

I'm not sure how easy it is for you to go stale when you're already bad on a level that dwarfs most B-movies.

The thing is that AVGN is a character. He resembles that very thing we used to be as kids when it came to playing god awful messes of the past. The raging anger that we couldn't release as kids because our parents would back hand up if they heard us swearing up a storm.
Yeah, he does swear a lot. But you know what? He actually does review the games rather than just saying "Yeah, that game from the past sucks. Don't play it." He does touch up on all the problems with the games and even brings up valid points we all thought of as kids. Take his reviews on the Sega CD, 32X and Virtual Boy for example.
Zero Punctuation is a completely different type of reviewer. He focuses more on current games and puts more emphasis on trying to review a game without stopping himself in mid-sentence, as well as come up with actual jokes for certain games.
There's a difference between being funny with the truth and just making up one liners to come across as witty.

I don't like AVGN's reviews because I'm no longer an elementary school kid that giggles at profanity. That is all.

AVGN is hilarios. well sometimes. at times he swears too much, or is a little too grotesque for me, but overall, I like the charicter. I appreciate how he takes the time to actually give a real review, and takes hard shots at it at the same time.
I showed it to my friends on new years, I think. They were watching videos for almost an hour. they loved the bible games one. My personal favorite, is still, when he figures out he can just walk across that ledge on the TMNT game.

Yes, he swears, but that's not exactly what makes him funny. The actual progress within the games are where it really shines, mainly because he's reliving the things a grand chunk of us older gamers went through as kids. Not only that, but you can actually SEE why he would be frustrated with these things, whether it be poor designing, horrendous gameplay or glitches up the ass.
If you actually think about it, Yahtzee's reviews arebasicallysomethinglikethiswhenwrittendownontext. You don't really see much of any actual video gameplay reviewing. Basically it's all just afterthoughts about games with some wit thrown about and non-stop talking.
Not to mention, there are people who didn't grow up in the times of the games AVGN reviews. So it's always fun for some people to see things they missed out on (in my case, the Atari 2600, 5200, the Intellivision and Colecovision) and helps make them wonder what the hell was going on back in those times. Then you also have the regular reviews, as mentioned before, with stuff like Nintendo Power.
If it was just about the swearing, anyone would be able to do it and shoot up into popularity. But because that's not the case, it becomes clear why no talent hacks such as Irate Gamer can't get anywhere.

I think AVGN is ok. He was alot funnier when obsene amounts of swearing was hilarious to me but he tries a little too hard now. I think that his reviews are always fun to watch from time to time but he's certainly not the best out there That's not to say he's bad of course, he's kinda above good but below great.
