Franky lost…:wassat:
It seems like most the people see the words Gurren Lagann and just vote regardless of who the character is.
That's the only explanation for things like Viral beating Raoh. Hell I voted for Viral (which I now regret) but I was fairly sure Raoh would take it by a landslide, especially given how many people were disapointed by his performace in the contest last year.
-
What a bunch of fuckwits. Really makes me not want to vote GL at all (though I voted for Simon and Lord Genome).
Was Orange-kun a joke entry? Because I really can't see it any other way. Not interested in the next couple match-ups except for supporting Baccano!
-
Orange : Code Geass :: Viral :: Gurren-Lagann
In a basic analogy. Orange was awesome for some of his scenes at first, but after losing to Zero that first time he sort of became everyone's kick around guy and was never taken seriously, though he was still a proud warrior. Even went so far as to get "upgraded" by the villain of that particular series only to go back into battle and lose again, much like what happened to Viral.
I don't think he'll be a good guy in the future, though, even if he has connection to the Lamperouge family in particular.
-
Holy shit, Jacuzzi only lost by a few votes. I expected him to get next to nothing. Only person I've heard of in the next round is Lelouche, so I'll probably skip over it.
-
Today's a big day, folks! Break out for Shiba Hiroshi! If one needs proof of his awesome, just watch

.Wow I was gonna vote Luffy but I after seeing that and doing some research on this series I'm definitly changing my vote.
KOUTETSU JEEEEEG!! BUILD UUUUUP!!
-
I am kinda surprised Luffy won.
-
You at a whole lot of other people. o_O
-
Konata in the other round got more votes than Shiba Hiroshi.
I think most of the people voting in this have no idea what GAR means and are just voting for their favorite characters (looking at NarutoFan here)
-
Yeah I'm not sure how Taleran can take posting there, much like how Zephos can endure GaiaOnline. Both those places are too much of a head-ache for me to handle; heck, Gaia's outrageous interface was a big enough turn-off as it was, I didn't need un-informed one liner posts spammed EVERYWHERE to tell me it was pretty bad.
-
man Kenpachi's just going to tear shit up tomorrow, I mean the other competitors don't even belong there anyway
Mukuro (FAGGOT TO THE 69th POWER) and some disgusting literal moeblob with gradient hair or someshit
in the other block, it's probably going to be Ladd Russo; if RAIL TRACER could win yesterday, then surely…
However, Sunohara's logic is impeccable. <–This is probably the only compliment I will give to Clannad ever.
-

Tch, Mukuro's a hot faggot.
-
@Rokudou:
Tch, Mukuro's a hot faggot.
Yeah but that has next to nothing to do with being GAR.
Hence why he came last this round.
-
Seriously no one from Reborn! should be in this.
Except for MAYBE Tsuna's dad. Maybe.
-
Heh, Bruce won his match. Awesome.
Um, not really, no.
-
@Mr.:

Except for MAYBE Tsuna's dad. Maybe.
Some of the former Vongolia bosses could probably be candidates if we knew a little about them.
A few of them looked awesome.
-
Roz should be pleased that Vino and Ladd both progressed. I look forward to a Baccano! shut-out block final!
-
I'm not sure what I think of Claire winning. In terms of this being a popularity contest, I'm quite thrilled. But in the spirit of the contest I'd say that he's more batshit insane than GAR.
I'd throw Ladd a little closer to the GAR category, although he's still pretty batshit insane himself.
-
I've got to agree in that I don't think insanity = manliness; I had an argument with an Alucard fanboy a couple nights ago who wouldn't talk about anything beyond "THRILL OF THE KILL IS THE ULTIMATE EXPRESSION OF GAR EVER". Alucard's a Mary Sue - shallow, over-powered, and cheesy as heck. He'd be right at home in Doom: Repercussions of Evil but people don't care to admit that! :getlost:
However, there's depth to Claire and Ladd that isn't with Alucard, which I find as impressive as Jacuzzi's leadership qualities. Ladd in particular, who is presented to us as nothing but a psychotic killer, has a strong sense of camaraderie, to the point of making anyone who messes with his pals the enemy. He doesn't actively show this, of course, but the heart is there. How he dove after Lua int he final episode, despite his famous saying "I'm the man who is going to kill that woman" yet he didn't kill her and tried to save her life speaks worlds to me.
Claire has his sense of justice but he's not on the same level of resolve that Ladd is - I probably would have liked Claire more if he didn't give that speech, hand Ladd a one-sided beating with that insulting gun threat, and torture Czeslaw.
-
Actually, have you been reading the novel translations? They're not terribly far along since they just started (They're progressing nicely!), but one in particular (Grand Punk Railroad Express Episode Epilogue II) puts an interesting spin on Claire's personality and motives that, while taking away some of the suspense that we were given in the anime, sheds quite a bit of light on who he is as a character. You'd be surprised at his persistence… And his insanity.
If you're not familiar with it, here's the gist:
! Claire goes around proposing to random women. He believes that when he's rejected, it simply means that the marriage wasn't meant to be and that there's a better match for him out there, he just hasn't found it yet. The world is conveniently made for him, after all.
It still doesn't change my opinion that Ladd is more fitting for the title of "GAR," but it's an interesting little blurb.
As for Ladd, well, he's similarly driven by a persistent insanity. He said that he was going to kill that woman, and dammit, he's going to do it or die trying. The only degree of affection or devotion that I can really make myself gleam from this is his close association of violence and pleasure, which he wants to share with her. Anyone else murdering her would be devastating: it's worse than being cheated on or having a spouse raped, since the result can only ever be reached once.
Damn why did I type so much about this
-
Wow, Claire does sound pretty insane. I thought he just proposed to Chane because he saw how dependent yet powerful and tragic she was. They're a good match, though!
And on Ladd, I think there's a bit more to him than just the sadism, though quite clearly it's there. The fact that he hasn't killed Lua already despite expressing an incredible desire to do so says to me there's something more than just "she's perfect to die by my hands" there. I haven't read the translations, but I know a bit about what is going on in the novels, and what happens in Alcatraz just adds more to my idea of Ladd loving Lua in his own twisted way.
The only thing I'm hoping against in the novels is Ladd killing his uncle. The uncle cared for Ladd up to this point, and even if Ladd gave him a spook what Ladd said, "I haven't forgotten all you've done for me" should have been warming enough for him to continue to reach out to the guy. Devil's advocate and whatnot, though his position allows him to get pissed off without getting shot up.
-
This just in, generic slice-of-life high school anime character beats Dio.
In other news BuckingHorse loses all interest in competition.
-
…as long as Kaiji wins his round tomorrow, I'll still be good.
-
…as long as Kaiji wins his round tomorrow, I'll still be good.
It doesn't even matter this time as it is fairly obvious Kamina is going to win.
Last year when it was basically only 4chan voting we got a few good matchups, but this year, ugh.
-
Hosaka should change his name to VICTOR!
Apparently sweatiness is GAR.
Voted for Kaiji btw, here's hoping.
-
Honestly speaking, Hosaka fits the "Gay for Archer" idea pretty well, and he's done some pretty outrageous stuff and could be considered un-conventional manly. Better than that idiot from Nodame anyway.
I'm fine with Dio losing, it was a good match. Speedwago withdrew coolly, too.
-
well that was surprising but
!
hell yeah
-
JoJo beat Kittan?
…alright I'm back on board as I at least expect him to get to the finals now.
-
It was a pretty fraudulent match by the graph's look, I'll see if I can get in contact to SaiGar to talk about it. I wouldn't feel so bad about Kittan losing out if Kamina had lost too, but yeah. Always vote, even if you feel there's no use bothering.
Anyway, I'm voting Giovanni. Here's why.
The original - Giovanni v. Chansey.
The rematch - Giovanni v. Chansey II.
The final battle - Giovanni v. Chansey III.
"Rakki, omae wa mo shinderu."
Kenshiro/Nagasumi & Giovanni - SaiGar 2008.
Motivator - A buffet of manliness.
Gaijin 4koma - Giovanni v. Cirno.
Card Crusher - Giovanni & Cirno.
What I watched/expected/got - Giovanni.
A man of many talents.
The guitar duel - Giovanni v. Lord Genome.
"The sands of hell are a magic sand."
A concerned citizen does his part to enforce population control.
Gaijin 4koma - Giovanni v. Edward Elric.
Mingling with Pokemon at a company picnic - a softer side.
A golden radiance.
Failure will not be tolerated.
One day, off while bird watching, Tomitake runs across…
The morning after.
"Lineage".
Even the guitar has a chair!
The space race.
Gununu - There's a gununu for everything!
Ruler of an empire.
Explosive fury!
A concern for QUALITY.
Unlimited Blade Works.
Your lack of everything is disturbing.
Hail to the king.
Even a king bows before his people.
Burning passion.
Manly tears.
Armed and dangerous.
Blast off again, Mewtwo. -
>>In light of the realisation there is a botnet in action, I've been using the graph to see how the results would have gone had there not been a sudden increase in votes. Therefore I have decided to re-run the matches 57 (Kittan, Luna's Papa, Jonathan Joestar) and 52 (Alucard, November 11, Kino) to see if the outcome will be more fairly determined next time.
Kittan fell into "Hell's Cauldron" but even there he can pull himself out and pierce the heavens! Bloody awesome, this is!
-
not so since Jojo should win

It's only the second round and GL fanboys are already demanding recounts. I'd love to see how they react if they end up losing the whole thing.
The RAGE will be delicious.
-
Yeah, all the "ANTI-[series]" sentiment needs to stop. I'm bored/sick of it, we should be going against individual characters and not the popularity of the series. Most of the jokes are dead/gone, when Rena falls to Ladd the tournament will be relatively good again.
The only "ANTI" in this tournament should be "ANTI-Spiral".
-
I'm not really anti-GL, I actually think a lot of the GL charactes like Genome and Simon deserve to be in this.
I just think its fans take it a little too far.

SaiGAR 08 Abandoned
Hi guys. I'm tired of this, and so are many others. Tournament's suspended until further notice. Lol proxies.
SaiGAR Guy <3
I actually saw this coming.
-
Haha I love how the website title is "SaiGAR Closed Due To AIDS"
-
And all was right in the world once more.
THE END.
