This expresses my feelings exactly.

So, the union jack is the "unofficial" flag right?
So now the official unofficial flag is this goofy monstrosity right?
I'm fairly sure it was an opinion poll limited to this website, especially since it opens to have been fairly open
But I didn't read most of what was going on with it anyway so I dunno
the best part is thats not even a dragon
Hahahaha, yeah. wipes tear This really did make my day though.
Apparently this is the work of 2ch
but 4chan probably jumped on too as soon as they caught wind of it
We should have kept the vote at 40%. I mean, the article was perfect enough as is, but.
i want to say this is awesome but at the same time its like…what
you know what, fuck it, thats awesome
I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry at this.
The actual event surrounding it is kinda pathetic, but that article is amazing.
Yea, am I the only one who finds this extremely nerdy?
I'm now confused; was this poll a real poll (like that Hungarian/Stephen Colbert Bridge-Thing) or just a poll for that website? Also, what the hell is "official unofficial flag" suppose to mean?
im assuming it's just a general opinion poll to see if people thought the old flag was boring, and then 2ch happened
The Union Jack is (according to Wikipedia) the flag that represents the UK, but not the one that flies over important buildings and whatnot.
Or something. I don't really get it either.
those wacky britains
Haha, before you folks get a bit worried, I guess I should write up a lurk entry on this whole event so as to clear up confusion.
What originally happened was, there was an initiative in the British parliament a couple weeks back to have the Welsh dragon on the Union Flag/Jack, which is the "flag of Great Britain" we're all familiar with. Telegraph wrote a report on it and offered people send them suggestions. Now, most internet folks are not photoshop-savvy so the contest went relatively un-noticed until Futaba (2chan) found out about it. They sent in a bunch of pictures and that got Telegraph's attention. Apparently, Anonymous of Norway is a reader and had a simmilar idea with Futaba, and sent in his picture as well.
Telegraph published the article on the flags, and then Yotsuba noticed. Then we found out Norway's selection was one of the "favourites" from the Telegraph board.
Then they hold this silly online poll (the kind you see on CNN.com) to suggest which flag should be picked. Two nights ago, an Anonymous posted it on /a/ and everyone started to think, "hey, let's get this to 40%…for the LULZ!" and so they did. Some folks like myself went to various forums and urged people to vote, others worked out how to vote multiple times.
Although "55%" seems like a lot, that couldn't be more than ~250 entries. Simmilar to a typical SaiGar round in fact, perhaps less because there was only a couple topics.
This page is written by a new guy, not the good humoured person who did the first article or the contest. I guess he felt alarmed or something like that.
No cause for concern though if the British are afraid their country will be re-named "Great Gurren" - it's just an informal poll we participated in for laughs. Don't take it seriously.
And Norway's quotes are great. Well played, good sir. Well played!
Thanks a lot for KILLING MY VOLUPTURE Terek
My new goal in life is to start a colony and use that flag.
I don't quite understand what you mean, old chap.
…
Some info:
1. Flag article was number one article on Telegraph for two days.
2. An article like it will be included in the printed version of Telegraph; whether the flag will be there is uncertain.
3. 2channel and Futaba found out about the flag and admitted they were "envious" Britain had the honor of using the Gurren Gang emblem for their flag, but also lamented "needs moar Ana and leeks".
4. Pictures have started appearing:
Great Englann, BRIT ON!
This is one small step for mecha…(edited)
And, a new avatar for someone!
I say, who the devil do you think I am?
(apologies to our resident British for the stereo-typing, it's all in good fun :P)
Oh my goodness.
Kamina is wearing a sunmonocle.
GIGGLES AND RAINBOWS
Oh snapz.
snags one of the pictures
Believe in me, who believes in you, who believes in tea.
I wish Terek would stop posting
Oh my word my jolly old chap!
…
But seriously, I dont know what to say about this. Whether to be laughing hard or just be plain amazed at what could start as some new meme.
(Oh and snagged the Viral ava btw)
@Cap'n:
I wish Terek would stop posting
Oh, it gets better.
!
The comments to the article are awesome. Especially from ones that don't get it.
OK, why is seeing the Gurren Jack just make me think of a Gurren Lagann/Code GEASS fusion?
Oh boy, am I late to the party. I just have a compelling need to tell my opinion of this show, since I finished it today. I'll put it in a spoiler tag, so no one has to bother oneself with my ranting if one doesn't wish to.
! First of all, my interest caught onto this via Arlong Park. There were strange avatars and signatures with robots and people with big, orange specs and a certain title called Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann kept popping up. People seemed to really like the show and thus I visited its Wiki-page and since it had a decent length, I decided to download it.
! I was pretty much mesmerized by the very first episode and the more I watched, the more I liked it. The animation was funky, the characters were fun, interesting and had nice designs and the story had a fitting pace. The plot twists didn't seem half-assed(though, mind you, I didn't approve Kamina's death at first, because I love the guy) and the enemies weren't just some bunch of faceless obstacles with nothing to offer. Viral, The Helix King, The Big Four… I enjoyed all of them. Even though the repetitive cycle of new enemy -> fightfightfight massive explosions and macho talk -> bigger robot -> bigger drill was what is was, I never disapproved of it. It matched the series and I accepted it as one of the main traits.
! After the big revelation and the seven-year leap to the future I was already claiming TTGL as one of the best shows I've ever seen and whaddaya know, the last match-up against the Anti-Spirals couldn't have been more epic! I could feel the absolute despair and everything else with it. The series had a perfect ending and I felt really melancholy when the last seconds of the last episode were still running. I quess I take my anime kinda seriously, because TTGL was an amazing watching experience: I laughed my ass off, I cried, I squeed, I clenched my fists in excitement and terror.
! So! All in all, one of the best shows I've ever seen. Period.
And now maybe off to read the whole thread. :>
@Telegraph:
C[l]aude Delicious needs to take a history lesson. Wales was an independent nation long ago. What he must understand is that the English nation is the youngest of the 4 home nations and that the English represent the last great wave of immigration into these islands. A few words: Brythonic, Briton, Britain. You will find that the Welsh are the original 'Britons' (hence why our cousins in France are Bretons). May I suggest our English neighbours spend an hour or two at their local libraries this weekend wih a history textbook.
I feel so bad for mis-spelling "Claude"; everything went ALMOST as planned.
I think you also misspelled "with" at the end.
Meh, I guess I was being a bit careless finishing up. Shan't happen next time though!
Does anyone pronounce Simon the way they do in the show?
Or do you pronounce it regularly?
@Mr.:
Does anyone pronounce Simon the way they do in the show?
Or do you pronounce it regularly?
do you mean
Sigh-Mun (like the chipmunk)
or
Shee-Mone (in the show)
or
See-Mone (thats how i say it)
I pronounce Simon the same way I would spell it on my English class, so not like people do in the show by squeezing an extra 'h' there. It's pretty much like in BeansDooma's first example: Sigh-Mun.
I find I pronounce the name both as "See-mon" and "Sai-mon". Some of the Gurren-Lagann names stressed in the middle don't sound too bad (Kee-tawn) but others are, (Kah-mina).
Reite's name always comes out as "Late" to me.
I'm looking at Terek's initial posts in this thread.
and lollin'
this is a quality show as well, mind you
but i haven't bothered to finish it yet.
Haha, it should have been quite humorous to see someone with a GL avatar bashing the show. Reminds me of that one forum link from Yotsuba /a/ to a fellow who bashed Gunbuster in this one topic, but his avatar was of Gunbuster flying over Excelion and in his signature, he listed "Gunbuster" as one of his favourite shows.
But his trolling was successful!
Also, I see what Kei did there. Did he see what I did somewhere?
Not exactly sure but how old is Kittan exactly? In his late 20s or early 20s? (Time of his death)
the only ages I know for sure are Yoko's (14 at the start of the series) and Viral's (20-ish…FOREVER)
I think I read somewhere he's around Kamina's age, but don't take my word for it
I'm pretty sure Simon was 14 at the beginning, and Kamina is prolly 17-ish (Kittan's around the same).
I don't think either of the latter two were over 19 or 20.
Ages:
Simon - 14, 21, 41
Kamina - 17
Yoko - 14, 21, 41
Viral - 20, 27, 47
Kittan ~ 17, 24
Kiyoh ~ 16, 23
Kinon ~ 15, 22
Kiyal ~ 14, 21
Rossiu ~ 15, 22, 42
Gimmy ~ 7, 14, 34
Darry ~ 7, 14, 34
Lord Genome - 1,000+
All other ages are uncertain, or we have absolutely no idea on them.
Notes:
1. ~ means approximately/about.
2. Kittan's age was never specified (he didn't know it himself), but everyone figured his age was around Kamina's. His sisters are progressively one year younger.
3. Viral was twenty during the first arc.
4. Lord Genome is over a thousand years old, we have no idea how much older he is than that.
5. Yoko's age doesn't seem to correlate with her, erm, physical development. Same applies for Simon and Rossiu after the second time-skip; they all look old and worn, when in reality they're only in their forties. Gainax claims Yoko's age was inappropriately measured given how people underground can't keep track of time - this, plus the fact that Kamina looks older than twenty one year old Simon, lends support to the claim.
Didn't Viral say something along the lines of "Have you awoken from your ten thousand years of fatigue Helix King?" Or was it just one thousand?
It's pretty hilarious that Yoko and Simon were the same age.
I'm guessing that everyone (girls especially) ages really fast in that world.
Except for Leeron, forever FABULOUS~
Okay, I've another question about subs. On Black-Order's release section the episode 1-13 batches are labelled h264 and xvid, is there a difference between the two? I thought that one of them was probably .mp4 and the other .avi, but I'm not sure.
Yeah, the h264 ones are .mp4.
Thanks Geg.
By the way, did that guy who started the corn-cricket restaurant have a name? Or was he just manly-farmer-man?
That's Bachoun Dokkanai.
…
lol what
thats photoshopped
Aye, good call. But it's a very good shop at that. After slaving away cleaning up the mess that is lurk, it was quite a sight to see. :D
EWW! Yoko 14? That's just…ugh.
Oh my god.
As if Gurren-Lagann wasn't funny enough, have you guys heard about ADV's free online stream subs?
About how horrible they are? And the gigantic spoilers on the summary paragraph for the website?
Hillarious!
Well, at least the started using the original covers
