@Iron:
Oooh, please tell me you got those offa ebay! JPQueen is killer its almost not even worth buying from ;3; (eeeh, it doesnt even take paypal any more… wtf)
Actually, JPQueen is usually much cheaper than E-Bay – even with the added shipping costs. (For instance, the person who was selling "S'Tank" on Ebay for only $5 was also located in Japan, so the shipping costs would be the same as for JPQueen)
The typical cost of a doujin on JPQueen is $7 + shipping. The typical cost of a doujin on E-bay is $20 + shipping (which will vary if the seller is in USA, Europe or in Japan.
You bring up a valid point about Paypal -- however, it wasn't JPQueen's choice to stop using Paypal -- it was Paypal's insistence. You'll find that to be true of nearly any Japanese doujinshi store that stocks and supplies hentai. This is because Paypal considers hentai to be pornographic, and will not allow any distributer of pornography to use Paypal's services for their transactions. (Paypal seldom goes after individuals who sell hentai though, so if you've purchased hentai from a fansite or Ebay via Paypal, that's why).
So even if you never purchase a hentai item from a Japanese doujinshi store, you'll still have to pay in a way other than Paypal. It's inconvenient, but as of yet, there's nothing the vendors can do to change it (except not stock hentai anymore, which is probably a significant source of their sales, so I doubt that would happen).
So what other ways can you pay?
Money orders
Kagi (similar to Paypal, but without the X-rated restriction)
and credit card.
(even though some vendors say they will accept "well-concealed cash", that's a huge risk for both of you, so I don't recommend it).
As always, it's up to each fan to determine his/her comfort level in terms of payment and vendor – so if E-bay makes you feel more comfortable than JPQueen, by all means use E-bay.
However, one thing I will insist is that everyone try not to make sweeping generalizations about the services of a company they've never actually investigated or used. Feel free to comment about them -- positive or negative -- after you've used them though.
Hope this helps.
(Oh, and Iron Law, I apologize if this sounds like I'm picking on you. That wasn't my intention. I've tried to fix the tone so that it won't seem so).
