Likey very much! Thanks! (though I hope EPLP won't be too upset that this picture migrated from the website to this forum)
This is EPLP, who you've probably heard me mention several times before in other threads – currently my favorite artist in OP yaoi, and possibly "favorite artist in OP." -- excepting Oda, of course).
Here's why : first off, there's the excellent layout and unusual angle of the picture. (We're looking down from above as if we were peeking through the trap-door on the deck). Secondly, there are all those beautiful shadows and well-placed objects that make the viewer look around the room several times, but always returning to the figures, who are a sort of "bridge" between the objects. Thirdly, there's the really lovely and realistic modelling of the figures -- look at the bend in Sanji's back and the foreshortening of Zoro's head and body, look at the realistic way their limbs are entangled within each other. Check out the expert shading on the blanket and the boots and Zoro's pants, too.
And finally, (and most importantly, considering yaoi is topic of this thread!), look at the cozy familiarity between Sanji and Zoro – one of the few depictions of them "sleeping with each other" that feels rooted in reality. There's a quiet dignity to this scene -- they look so comfortable with each other. They look like they don't have to prove anything anymore. That's the kind of hard-won comfort that a couple has only after years and years of working on a relationship.
I likey that. :)
p.s. Mearl D. -- please don't feel unwelcome in the doujinshi thread! There's still plenty of room there to talk about yaoi/yuri. (And though I may say that some forms of it might not be "my thing", I'm still always happy to look for links for people who do like those forms, and to let the discussion go where ever it goes.
