Gala out. Dortmund - Malaga perched on a knife-edge.
I just wonder, if Malaga win the competition, would UEFA not let them defend their title next season?

AFAIK, they can't unless their financial status is acceptable for UEFA.
But of course winning UCL means you'll get a lot of money and it may be enough to save Malaga's ass next season. -

But of course winning UCL means you'll get a lot of money and it may be enough to save Malaga's ass next season. This is just a thought exercise, UEFA has already banned them from European competitions next season.
But UEFA has bent it's rules on previous occasions, letting Liverpool defend their trophy in 2005-06, when they didn't qualify for the competition based on their league standing and there was no direct entry for holders then (the same thing happened to Chelsea this season but now there is a provision of the holders getting in the competition in place of the last qualifying team from their league - in this case, Tottenham). Will they bend their rules for Malaga? -
That 2005 Liverpool Champions league win was quite extraordinary.
-
Idk man, this time UEFA seems bold about Financial Fair Play.
This is their visionary rule that will ensure the safety of each team financially.
So I believe Malaga's got no chance unless they make fat money somehow.Rummenigge was among the first to approve this rule back then.
You do know how vocal Rummenigge is, right?
So IMO allowing Malaga to defend their title even though they don't pass the FFP rule will be a very bad move by UEFA. -

Will they bend their rules for Malaga?I am not sure if they actually bent the rules for Chelsea or Liverpool since I read somewhere that there is a specific rule somewhere that says that the winners HAVE to be present for the next competition. Not very sure where I read it but sometime back came across it. Might not be reliable.
Wonder if Mourinho will stay if they win the CL somehow. Or to prove a point he will just walk away like how he did from Inter. Inter burned down right after he left and it might happen to real too. Already something similar happened when they appointed Juande Ramos some years back. 2-6 mauling and Julien Faubert anyone? THAT was probably the most hilarious signing I have ever heard of!!!

When Liverpool won the competition, such rule didn't exist.
Maybe they never thought that a team capable of winning UCL would fail to qualify through league ranking.
So exception was made for Liverpool.
And since then UEFA has new rule that the winner has to be present next season by sacrificing the last spot available for the respective league, hence Tottenham this season. -

Gather round boys and girls, it's time for a football history lesson.
Before the European Cup became the Champions League and before multiple teams from the same league started qualifying, there was an automatic place for the holders. This ensured that teams like Bayern Munich, who won the European Cup in 1975 but finished 10th in the Bundesliga, could still defend their cup.
This rule was scrapped when Champions League spots started being given to teams in second place and beyond. The first time the Champions League holders failed to qualify for the next edition through their league placing after this was in 2000, when holders Real Madrid finished 5th in La Liga. The Spanish FA (of course) decided to relegate fourth place Zaragoza to the UEFA Cup so the fancy galacticos could defend their title. The next time this happened was in 2005, with winners Liverpool finishing 5th in the Premier League. The English FA, however, decided to support fourth place Everton and left it upon UEFA to decide if they would give Liverpool a chance to defend their title. UEFA introduced Liverpool as a 'wild card' in the first qualifying round, placing Everton at England's designated spot in the third round. So in 2005-06, five English teams started in the Champions League.
After this incident, UEFA ruled that the Champions would qualify directly to the group stages. This rule was applied to Chelsea's case, and poor Tottenham missed out. Interestingly, since Chelsea directly qualified to the group stage, this year also saw all four English teams in the competition start at the group stage, another first. -

Anybody interested in watching the Manchester derby today?! Considering the fact that the title is pretty much out of reach for City now.

I'm watching the second half hopefully, will miss the first because I will be in a meeting. Time zones suck.
The title may be out of reach for City, but I would like United breaking Chelsea's points record. So plenty to play for!
Also, City might consider resting some players for the FA Cup Semi next weekend. There's also the Rome derby in a couple of hours. Should be exciting, with both rivals in the hunt for European places.
-
It was as i expected. Aguero's goal came out of nowhere. I hope united wont give title away like last time. Pretty unlikely.
-
Aguero's goal was sheer individual brilliance. City deserved to win the match on the balance of play.
It's probably too late for a comeback in the title race.
~Hopefully -
Dortmund - Malaga was beyond epic.
-
This is why i love football, Dortmund "Manchestered" Malaga
-
Dortmund vs Malaga… What the heck??? XD last 5 minutes probably almost give some fans a heart attack (shamblessssssssssss!! XD LOL)
-
Madrid choked.
Seriously, had Gala score first…..Anyway everything's going well for Germany vs Spain semifinals.
-
No surprises there, Germany vs Spain, at least once in the CL
-
Barca without Messi = toothless, when Messi came on and Barca need a goal the team playing superb pressing and increased the tempo of the game. But once they scored and the score is safe enough they back to boring and slow play, heck they even sub Villa for Song to strengthen their defence. Tito such a (excuse the language) pussy, while Pep I bet will still tell the team to attack (I remember Barca lead 2-0 vs Chelsea but they didn't hold back and keep attacking, eventho the result became 2-2 and cost lost to Barca), I found Tito's Barca is more slower and less pressing the opponents zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. But hey! I'm still glad that Barca made it through to the semi-final :D
-
^
I think you should be glad that Tito cares about the defense.
Pep's attacking football is good yet very risky, sometimes you need to prioritize the match result.Anyway whoever Bayern will fight on the semis, I don't really care.
All teams are the strongest in Europe this season, they have equal qualities.
Anyone can reach the final.
But I do hope we will get Barca. -
^
Well, Tito should seen whenever Barca play defend = shambles XD
Barca isn't team that good enough to play defend, whenever Barca tried to play defend their defense is looked nervous and make mistakes.
IMO Barca is the team that superior when they pressing fast and keep the tempo high to push opponents make mistake.
Same here idc about whoever Barca will face later, I got this stupid feelin about semi-final is all Barca can get, but who knows? Leave it to luck as Zoro said, since Champions League is need luck too XD
But if I can pick I'd like to get Dortmund and have Bayern destroy Madrid since barca defence isn't good enough yet to fight Madrid counter attack style XD -
Fenerbahçe, Benfica and Chelsea make it to the semi-finals
Basel and Spurs just ended, penalty is starting
Edit: and basel got it, goddamn this shit was intense, basel vs spurs had to be best matches in in the quarters
And congratz Basel for making it to the semis for the first time -
Newcastle were very unlucky. Cisse could have been celebrating a hat-trick.
-
But if I can pick I'd like to get Dortmund and have Bayern destroy Madrid since barca defence isn't good enough yet to fight Madrid counter attack style XD
I think Barca's defense is not good enough to face any of the remaining teams.
They are way too vulnerable. Tito MUST buy a world class CB this summer.
If Lucas alone was enough to wreak havoc on Barca defense, imagine Schweini-Robbery or Reus-Gotze-Lewa -
Huh,
Fenerbahce vs Benfica
Basel vs ChelseaBayern vs Barcelona
Dortmund vs Real -

But knows Barca, they probably buy a DM that can play CB, AGAIN loooooool
Dammit, you got what you want, Barca vs Bayern and Dortmund got Madrid >.>
I think Bayern is the best team in Europe based of their current form atm T_T
I'm looking forward for a good match, and no more Iniesta on the left wing please!! -
Dammit, you got what you want, Barca vs Bayern and Dortmund got Madrid >.>
Of course I do lol.
Man I predicted Bayern would get Juve on quarter finals and it came true. Now this.
Let's see if Bayern can expose Barca's weakness on defense.Well I read that Barca are after players like Thiago Silva and Hummels.
They're top class for sure.@cooldud_21
congrats for the 666th post lol -
Í also hoped for exactly those match-ups in the semi-finals (just not that the german teams have to play at home first^^)
Bayern vs Barca is the match of the two best teams in europe and having this match two times is just amazing (even when on 5/1 it will be hard to watch it after being drunk already in the morning^^)
Dortmund vs Madrid can be the next step of the sensation team Dortmund.
As a german i know what theyre able to and in the prelims they showed Madrid already that they
re able to defeat them.
That one will be as close as the first match and to predict the teams that advance to the finals ..well, my fingers are crossed for a german final :) -
I like the match-ups. I'm hoping for an all-German final, but I think Madrid will probably make it there. You can never count out Cristiano.
Chelsea are so lucky. They always get the easy draws.@Massimo:
@cooldud_21
congrats for the 666th post lolWell, I am a Red Devil, so it is only appropriate. :ninja:
-
My prediction is that we will have a clasico for a final Madrid vs Barcelona winner will be barca.
-
This year is Bayern's year.
-
Loving the fact that Spurs beat City. Very impressive tactical changes and substitutions from Villas-Boas to turn around a very bad performance from his team.
Luis Suarez is in trouble (again!) for apparently biting (again!) Branislav Ivanovic during Chelsea's 2-2 draw with Liverpool. What's up with him?
The Juve steamroller marches on to the title, defeating Milan today.
In the most predictable news of the day, Celtic wrap up the Scottish title. -
I can understand beating the shit out of someone, slapping and even headbutting but biting?!
Summarizing his contribution: Assisting, giving away a penalty, biting, scoring equalizer. Liverpool will miss him badly for both good and bad reasons.
-
i think dortmund will be the champion this year..
-
Luis Suarez…
Hilarious. He is a good entertainer isn't it?
I'm not blame him nor defend him, just say his action is shameful for his club but in other side he gave his all for his club too (in every way, even that mean cheat).
I respect his passion and curse his unsporting behavior. -
Dafuq was that from Van Persie!?!

Congrats on winning the title.. in style that too!
-
And this keeps getting better and better!
Lionel who?
grin pasted wide across face -
Bayern - Barca 4 - 0, what the
although two of those goals were of questionable nature, bayern still dominated
also, lol at Jordi Alba throwing the ball in robbens face -
I said it and I will say it again:
This year is Bayern's year.
-
Bayern Munich played superbly great, Barca got humiliated and completely outplayed. I'm so disappointed with Tito, when we're down 2-0 maybe we should change our tactic? no response, 3-0 maybe need change something? no response, let's stay and wish everything will be fine, 4-0 I can't say anything anymore.
Bring back Pepppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp!!!!!! :getlost:
-
I am actually wondering whether Barca had defence or not. Messi had one of the worst performance of his life. Elite defending from Bayern.
Now i hope Dortmund wins too.
-
Messi wasn't even ready to play this match. He was in no condition to be on the play field.
But, who cares? This is it.
I'm actualy "happy" about it; Bayern is the only team in Europe that can stop Real Madrid from winning the 10th Champions League.
Had this Barça played against Madrid in Wembley, it would've been a disaster of epic proportions. Even this 4-0 would be a joke compared to what Madrid would do to us.
So let's enjoy la Liga, and let's do some massive changes for next season. Cause this can't keep on going like this.
-
How can I sleep after such a magical performance?
Even till now I'm still full of euphoria.
Bayern is just 90 minutes away from Wembley showdown.
Mia San Mia. -
I do not know why people are underestimating Dortmund. They clearly had upper hand against Madrid in group stages. I am sure it will not be easy for Madrid.
-
Two amazing things from tonight:
- Lionel Messi only completed 47 passes tonight. That's less than Marc Barta.
- 50/50 refereeing decisions actually went against Barcelona, for a change! Inter and Chelsea fans must be smiling.

To be frankly, referee decisions have nothing to do with how Bayern outplayed Barca.
Bayern played epic, thats what made the 4-0 outcome. I'm pissed about how Tito have no reaction at all after Barca down 2-0, 3-0, 4-0 zzzzzzzzz.
Any amateurs out there can clearly see how Bayern outplayed Barca and Barca need change something, tactical or sub a player, not just silent like a stone. -

Referee had nothing to do with the result, Bayern just steamrolled Barça.
But "for a change"? Lol. Are you blind or just trolling? This year's Milan and PSG's matches say HI!
And you're still crusading against Messi like this was his fault; guy was half injured. He played cause there's NO ONE else, and cause Tito can't or doesn't want to trust in Tello or Cesc. Not even Villa.

Btw, you're a Catalan XD what your opinion about Tito? Should he stay or resign for next season?
Honestly I personally think Pep was better tactician and motivator than Tito and maybe we can get a better tactician than Tito?
I'm sooooooooooooo upset how he looks like "have no idea" to response the scoreline.
