Poster. Boo-yah.
One Piece Movie #6
-
-
Cool! You rock, Bevin.
Hmmm…I swear, these movies are getting stranger and stranger.
-
Awwww…it looks like they aren't going to be using movie six's style for this film...=(
-
Probably not, but it's hard to say what the style will be like from the poster…The early posters for the M6 didn't really indicate the style so much. But from the looks of the content, if it has a lot of cold, hard metallic stuff, that style really would not be the best to use. I don't care what style of animation that they use as long as the story is interesting.
Translation of the poster from Dythim:

IT'S HERE--!
One Piece: -The Movie-
Karakuri Castle's Giant Mecha Soldier
2006, March 4. Roadshow!_
Not sure what "Roadshow" means…
-
I recommend new topic for Movie 7 >__> not gonna serve much purpose in this thread.
And uhh Cosmic, I posted what Roadshow meant right under the translation. -___-
-
This post is deleted!
-
Oh…sorry. I'm stupid. "Roadshow is the name of the event the movie will premier at."
I was blinded by all the pretty bright colors an didn't see anything else. -
Not bad. The animation of this movie reminded me of FLCL, Samurai Shamploo & some episodes of Naruto.
-
I thought movie 6 was the best OP movie yet <3
The style was great and Luffy's emotions were amazing. I love serious Luffy.
But I'm extremely confused about the ending….where did the crew come back from?? ;___; -
can any one put the movie in yousendit.com pls
-
If anyon is interested, an spanish fansub has released this movie with better subtitles than the BALF ones ^^ … but in spanish ^^UU
-
Sounds amusing. I might want to see that

Can anyone help me out and plz seed movie 6?! T_T
Thnx. -
agreed yarichin! this movie was way too weird and retarded for my liking… definitely one of the worst movies down there (choppers). not something that i'd like to really watch again even tho it was from a different approach.
Agreed. The fighting was minimal and boring at best. The story unexplained and confusing, the animation totally lacked detail and looked horrendous. Give me back the normal animation, thanks. The fact that everyone got totally mad and shit was completely out of character and ruined the movie, yet again.
Worst movie ever.
-
I'm sure there are tons of OP movie #6 discussions in the present and past and more will appear in the future, but I demand a topic all to myself declaring the sheer and utterly immense power of this movie.
From Anime News Network:
@Malintex:
I'm not too big of an anime fan; manga is really my preferred cup of tea, though I sometimes entertain the animation equivalents of my favourite manga when there's either critical acclaim or something I am interested in (such as hearing a certain character's vocals).
The One Piece movies have gained a notoriously bad reputation for possessing a diverse number of poor qualities, with a lesser or equal number of good qualities. As such, I had, until today, avoided all of them; however, the enormus number of positive appraisals for movie #6 compelled me to the point of watching it.
I must say, I'm in a state of shock. While the character designs, colour palletes, and 3D animation were all disgustingly bad (pretty fair animation, though), the storyline was unbelievable. Obviously, this sort of plotline has been previously pasted onto the big screen by previous directors (Shin Angyo Onshi comes to mind), but I was not expecting such a story in a One Piece movie. The overall tone of this film was darker and less comedic that the series and its theatric predecessors (and successor); much of the silliness that defines One Piece had drained before the film was even half over!
Additionally, this is the first graphical representation of One Piece in which I actually could not forsee the outcome of the movie; I've never even imagined the great and glorious Straw Hat Pirates in such a pitiful situation, let alone how miserable Luffy himself was. Ultimately, the real hero of the movie was not the headstrong would-be Pirate King, but that surviving captain with a moustache who had faith in him.
In closing, I'm not sure what to make of this movie. I dove in expecting a thrilling cartoony swashbuckler and ended up getting fed a serious film that taught me a moral about the strength (and pains) of friendship. As a film adaption of a slapstick series about pirates, movie #6 just seems out of place, like a Ghibli film in ambition…but at the same time, it doesn't belong in the rankings of animated cinematic classics.
I guess my overall assessment could be summed up in twelve words; This is the most profoundly emotional children's film I have ever seen.
Score:
Plot: 10/10
Characters: 8/10
Music: 8/10
Voices: 10/10
Animation: 8/10
Tilt: 8/10Overall: 8.7/10

Why do I have a feeling a large amount of that was for the fanservice?

Why do I have a feeling a large amount of that was for the fanservice?
There wasn't any fanservice in movie #6. o.O
-
Sorry to break it to you, but you're not important enough to have a topic all to yourself, Terek. XD Topics merged.
But yeah, movie 6 rocks. It's my favorite.
-
Sorry to break it to you, but you're not important enough to have a topic all to yourself, Terek. XD Topics merged.
This topic is a year old. :O
…
Ahh, but it's nice to see some commentary I likely would have missed had this topic not been, uh, "bumped".
-
Sorry bout that, thought it said "7". Forgive me. walks out
-
Forgive me for bumping this ancient thread – but what I'm adding might be of interest to Movie 6 art fans :
I stumbled across a book of storyboards/concept art on YahooJapan the other day. I'd never seen it before then. I originally posted a link in the OP doujinshi thread, but we got so wrapped up in discussing it there that we (well, me mostly ... ) nearly derailed the thread!
So, here's context:
http://apforums.net/showthread.php?t=2316&page=35
(jump from reply # 682 to reply # 693 for the rest of the discussion)
And here are three scans that I found after searching on other websites. Does anyone have this book? Can anyone give us more information about it? For example, the stuff that we would need to know to order it : publisher, title, author, pagination, etc … (Thanks in advance!)
-
I want that book. ;_;
Know where it might be imported from?
-
Hot damn, that book's like a wet dream for someone like me.
I did a quick search around some of the biggest online Japanese stores I could think of but came up with nothing.
If you bid on the thing through okshon.com though (it's essentially the same item from Yahoo!) it will be able to ship internationally, while the original Yahoo! auction won't.
Strange. If anyone with a credit card or ways to actually bid for it would be willing to give that a go, there's a chance, unless I'm grossly mistaken. It's out of the question for me, unfortunately.
-
Mog – thanks so much for the tips and for trying to locate a source! Have you ever used Okshon before? I considered using it a while ago, but when I read the fee schedule, that soured me to the idea -- or at least for buying books that way. The fees aren't so bad if you are buying a big-ticket item like a watch ... but if this turns out to be the only way to get the book. Well ... hmm. I'll have to think it over for a while.
My local Kinokuniya carries the Studio Gibhli storyboard books, and others too, so I was hoping that if I had an exact title, ISBN, etc for the Movie 6 book, I could beg the staff there to special order this for me. But that's assuming the book is still in print, and still readily available and that "Books K" wouldn't charge me a huge service charge fee!
Oh, and Mog, I'm curious, do you think there was much rotoscoping in Movie 6? Sounds like you're really into animation, so it would be cool to hear your opinion. Cosmic and I agreed that the film has the look of it, but that we aren't sure exactly if rotoscoping was the technique used.
Here's a link for AP folk who are unfamiliar with the term:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotoscope -
I was talking to someone else about this who has worked in animation and he didn't think it was rotoscoped…but I think it definately has a rotoscoped look. Do people even use that technique anymore? :P
-
Yeah, I don't think it's rotoscoped either. The whole thing was animated by people with some serious talent under their belts, and it shows. Realistic effect could ''easily'' be achieved merely by taking films or people as an example. I remember Miyazaki actually having his animators watch how a dog looks like when having his mouth forced open, for reference in a scene in Spirited Away. They made do just fine without resorting to rotoscoping.
I don't really like rotoscoping anyway. It's quick to show, and I don't think it shows in this film.
Dinty - I know people who've used Ok!Shon and were perfectly happy with it, but then again, they live in Japan, so….
I understand your reluctance when it comes to the money, though for me it'd be worth it. Who knows, I'd be more than happy buying it off you if you'd get it. Heh.
But either way, it's not for me to say. I you feel even slightly uncomfortable getting it this way I wouldn't do it.
-
… Realistic effect could ''easily'' be achieved merely by taking films... They made do just fine without resorting to rotoscoping.
That's very true. By making a film of a guy swinging a sword around while wearing an unbuttoned shirt, and then by watching the film in slow-mo, they could have easily figured out how to make Zoro's shirt "move" realistically without rotoscoping. thanks!
Oh, I think I found the reference point for the Sanji page – it's in the same segment as the Zoro page, but at about 8:01.
(I'll try to find the Luffy segment next – I think it's in the 5th or 6th section, so it won't be as easy to find as this one was).
I like how they made Sanji's hair move naturally, yet consistant with Oda's policy of never showing the other eye (assuming Sanji even has another eye!)
Dinty - I know people who've used Ok!Shon and were perfectly happy with it, but then again, they live in Japan, so….
I suspect the fees aren't as steep for folks in Japan as they are for us –after all, it would be domestic shipping an no foreign currency exhange and no language barrier, etc. But I'm still considering it. As well as persuing other options. (Since I source books for a living, I have a network of publishers and vendors to call upon. Not nearly enough in Japan though ...)
Do people even use that technique anymore? :P
According to the Wikipedia link they do – but who knows how authoritative the source is or if the info will still be the same tomorrow. (the only problem with Wiki). I remember reading on a website once that "Samurai X" had a lot of roto in it, but I can't recall if the website was created by someone who was actually part of the animating process, or if it was just speculation on the part of a fan. Grrr!
Probably the best known example of effective rotoscoping is the video "Take On Me" by the band A-Ha, in which a comic book fan is literally pulled into the action by the hero:
-
I watched the movie 6 trailer again…there does seem to be some changes in ideas from the time the first trailer came out. Some of the "scenes" shown are just stills, actually, they were probably just concept art at the time. That happens with a lot of movies, stuff you see in trailers gets either removed, redone, or finished differently.
I always had a feeling that there were a scenes cut out of the movie close to release. Partly because some scenes seem to have abrupt transitions and also the soundtrack contains music that isn't in the movie. I also think it looks unfinished, particularly with the shading and 3D effects. I wish someone could go and clean the post-production. -
Oh! I don't think I've ever seen the trailer! Can you send a link, Cosmic? Thanks! I agree with you about it seeming rushed and imcomplete in some parts, but overall, it's still great. :)
Oh, and I just gotta say – since I was watching that segment a few minutes ago : I love the way Nami's voice-actor interprets the bit with the Emergency Kit and the two cups. That giggly sing-song she does just cracks me up every time! :)
[EDIT : Ok! I think I found the scene that the Luffy page refers to -- it's about 1.58, just after Sanji sinks down :
aaaaggghhh! This is so painful to watch! Poor Luffy!]
-
Hmm, since this topic's been revived, I guess I can add my thoughts…?
This movie had kindof an odd, dark feel to it, but I liked it. That scene near the end with the mutant plant and the arrows scared the crap out of me, though. oo;
I thought that the animation was pretty cool, but the characters looked weird sometimes. XD;
Errr... Is there any other sub available other than the BalF version, mur? >>; Those subs were really annoying.
And I wanna see the trailer, too. >>
-
As posted in the other thread:
-
Thanks EvilGamerX! downloads
"Other thread?"
Do you mean the doujinshi thread that I just cross-referenced the Movie 6 book from? …... Or was that thread the Anime FAQ?
nervous laughter
Arrghh!
I'll kick myself if it's in the Anime FAQ! I'm usually so good about
checking those first! -
In the movie 7 thread, the discussion of differences between trailers and the final film was talked about. So the discussion about the evil tree looking thing from the movie 6 trailer was brought up. So I ripped the trailer from my R2 DVD.
(and yes, I suck at compressing files after I rip them)
-
There's no other version other than the Balf, which is an HK sub. But K-F's release isn't too far off. It came out during the lost memory arc, which is after Davy Back Fight. So depending how fast they release, and after they get past the situation theyr'e in now, maybe 4-5 months. dythim won't enjoy it much, he hates the movie.
-
In the movie 7 thread …
:sigh:
Ok, I feel better now. Thanks for clarifying!Looking at the Movie 6 trailer now… Hey, there's a lot different! Well, a lot of little things I should say -- the basic plot seems to be the same, but wow, what a costume change: they went from casual to formal! And of course, as you pointed out, there's that eye of Saru...-- erm, I mean of Lily.
I'm most curious about that blue scene with the Mugiwara on the ground. Looks like they've been ambushed. Where's Usopp (I see his hat, but not him). Oh, they've put Zoro's bandana on the wrong side -- and look how he's touching Nami's foot. heheheh ;)
-
does anyone know where i can find pics of the various outfits wron in movie 6?
-
Oi!…the eye of Sauron. No wonder they changed it. XD I thought it was looking familiar.
OP + LOTR FTW

Oh ok Thanks dinty!

Third scan –
(from about 1:18 to about 1:29)

Anyone ever sub the whole movie rules video that promoted this movie? It was on the DVD, so I can upload if nobody knows what I am talking about.
-
I know what you're talking about, but I can't remember if it was subbed or not. I don't think it was.
-
Damn, it would be a nice thing to show at the begining of my anime club meetings. So many dumbasses seem to not know what it is to be respectful.
-
We have a national epidemic with cell phones.
Maybe K-F will sub it when they get to movie 6.
-
Which will be like March.
