I need help with my first ever cosplay, Luffy. It's the vest; I need suggestions and help about the sewing patterns, type of cloth, et cetera. I'm a really inexperienced sewer, all I've done is hemming. The simpler the better, but I'm open to any suggestions. (Also, one thing I really fear I'll mess up are the holes for the buttons, so tips for that would be much appreciated.)
Thanks in advance; please understand if I can't respond right away.
Help with cosplay

Alright, fabric choice, for the vest a non-stiff cotton could be good to work with. I really hope that that much at least might help you

Figured I would bump an already made cosplay help thread. I am planning on going as Admiral Akainu. I have the shoes, red suit, pink floral shirt covered already. Im not sure what to do with the Marine coat and all the things that has on it.

omg.. you found a WHOLE RED SUIT? I'm having to make my sisters Akainu suit xD
I'm thinking for the captains coat you'll have to make it or find a white coat with a collar like that… when I make mine I'll have to create a collar cause the pattern I have doesn't have collars like that. I know a lot of people paint the 'justice' kanji on the back but I'm not sure what I'm gonna do D: iron on would work too if you can iron it on the fabric you make it out of or find.
I feel I'm SO not any help but I'd LOVE to see your Akainu __ what did you do for the floral shirt patten? Did you just draw it on?

Wow, thanks for bumping this.
First of all, do you already have a coat and you just need help with the decorations, or do you need a place to get a coat?
If you have a coat:-For the back symbol, you could try embrodery (look for a seamstress in your newspaper) or you can find a kit at most superstores/craftstores that let you iron on patters you print from your printer. I don't recall exactically how it works or what it's call, but if you ask for help from a store employee, I'm sure they can point you in the right direction (if you get really desperate, you could make a stencil of the symbol and carefully spraypaint it) (keep in mind I've never done this before and I'm just throwing things out there).
-You can find the tassles/ buttons/ button loops at any craftstore. Buttons sew on, button loops tacky glue/ sew on…
-As for the shoulders, I'm not really sure. You could try just yellow cloth, but it would have to be stiff. Keep in mind you'll have to attach the tassels also.
-If you're going to glue, use tacky glue. White glue won't work on cloth and hot glue, just no. Tacky glue dries quickly, dries rubbery, and comes off of skin easily (sorry if you knew that).
...Actually, for something like this, I would buy one already made. The only thing is, I can't find one on any cosplay sites, or ebay.
I'm sure, though, that if you find a good recent one on the 'Post Your Cosplays' thread, and you ask "Where'd you get that coat, someone will help you.
(Sorry if this doesn't help at all...but I hope it does).

This helps a ton, thank you so much. Chances are I am going to make it myself just because to me that is the fun part of it…just wanted some needed tips from experienced cosplayers. Thank you again!
