Damn. I remember looking up the ages of creators I like that are starting to get up their in years & figured he'd still likely be around for at least another decade. Rest in peace to one of the biggest influential artists.

There's already call for John Boyega to replace him. I'd go for it.
I'd be 1000% okay with that but does Boyega even really want to work with Disney all that much after what The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker did to Finn? I know he's made his peace with them but that doesn't translate into a desire to take over a major role.
He's already responded on Twitter that he's not interested.

It's starting to sound like Pedro Pascal is pretty much confirmed as Mr. Fantastic

Yeah. We're still pretty far off from from the next Mass Effect.

RE: EA SUCKS but so does Bioware Thread
I guess this kinda has to do with Bioware.
If anyone was wondering how the old EA CEO is doing...
https://www.gamedeveloper.com/business/the-death-of-unity"
Unity personal, which is free, now cannot be used offline.
all tiers of unity now require developers to pay a flat fee of a few cents for every game that's installed
Unity plus (which is going away), and pro, and enterprise levels all cost a subscription, and most professional developers have to use it.
different tiers of downloads and income determine how much you pay.
Unity has never made money off subscriptions, it has always made money off its ads platform (which you see in f2p mobile games, etc)
There's a discount if you use Unity Services.
This money is meant to help with runtime issues when they can't even get their base stable version to run without crashing.

RE: EA SUCKS but so does Bioware Thread
Sounds like the layoffs included Mary Kirby who's been around since Dragon Age: Origins. She's probably most well known for being Varric's writer, but I also remember the areas she was responsible for writing in general usually being my favorite.
-
RE: EA SUCKS but so does Bioware Thread
I guess it's not technically Bioware news, but Baldur's Gate 3 is out on PC with console release in a month. It's currently getting rave reviews and looks like the path I wish a Dragon Age: Origins sequel had taken.

RE: Chapter 1061: Future Island Egghead
Works fine for me. Maybe it depends on what country you're in.
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
I would have probably considered Bonney maybe a while back if her power was at all suited for actual combat rather than 'It's overpowered when it works, but useless if it doesn't.'

RE: American Politics: A Brand New Day
Yeah. As much as people talk about how the internet encourages people to be in their own ideologically similar bubbles, the truth is it really forces a lot of groups that would actively avoid each other otherwise onto the same social media platforms.

RE: Chapter 1,049: The World That Should Be
Oda didn't hit the beats he usually hits and he didn't tie up the action (yet) with a meaningful 'bigger picture' emotional moment like he almost always does.
Yeah. This is kinda the biggest issue I had. The final blow against Kaido is sending him deep into the ground….which I don't really get the intention of.
Compare it to Crocodile getting blasted into broad daylight after keeping his activities hidden, Doflamingo, the heavenly king, getting sent down to the ground, or Katakuri falling on his back at the end.
I can get the idea of wanting Luffy's final blow to be what he actually trained for in Wano, but I don't see any more meaning than that.
-
RE: Chapter 1,049: The World That Should Be
If I'm right, and the Fiver Elders are actually 'well-intentioned' people that are trying to protect the world from an even worse fate that to their knowledge has no hope of being bested, there's an unknown power waiting to EXPLODE if it has the chance.
I kinda just assumed this has to do with whatever Blackbeard is doing which would also lead to why Shanks' biggest worry seems to be Blackbeard and why he may be on decent terms with the Five Elders.

RE: American Politics: A Brand New Day
Collins isn't stupid. Any of her voters that's thought she's actually a moderate are the stupid ones.

RE: American Politics: A Brand New Day
Manchin is pretty much the best we can get from his state. Sinema, on the other hand….

RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
Yes, these situations are not as evident as "we need a doctor now" or "let's look for a cook". But with all the positions filled once Brook joined, the position of a helmsman was the only one actually having things happening within the story showing that a helmsman might have made things better.
The issue became irrelevant once Franky joined because he's clearly a competent enough helmsman himself even if he's not on Jinbe's level.
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
I imagine any further delving into Yamato's past would be complex at this point since it probably heavily intertwines with parts of Kaido's flashback.
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
I think we will at least learn what happened to her mother before the arc is over. My random theory is that the mothers of ogres die when they give birth which is my random explaination on why Kaidou goes along calling Yamato his son.
We already know this from Yamato's flashback. Kaido calls Yamato 'son' because of Yamato's desire to be Oden. Yamato was called 'Onihime/Ogre Princess' before that.

RE: Chapter 1,041: Komurasaki
@Cyan:
This does make it kind of weird in retrospect that the Elder Stars just seemed completely uninterested in Luffy until he took the New World by storm considering he's the son of Public Enemy Number One and beat the shit out of two Warlords.
Like you'd think he would've gotten a Robin-style manhunt the moment they learn his full name.
Maybe 'Monkey' is a very common surname.

RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
@Johnny:
I do wonder, is this something only that we westerners dislike, or does the native audience dislike Sanji's issue with lady kicking?
I'm not in a position to say how the native audience feels, but it should be noted that Sanji's refusal to fight female opponents is stated as notably old-fashioned even in the story itself which is clearly a reference to how it is in the real world as well.
Like Oda had the opportunity to have Sanji's refusal be due to his traumatic upbringing where only women treated him well, but Oda went out of his way to say it's because Zeff raising him in an old-fashioned way.
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
Oda having his dainty pure pricesses is a thing I don't like, but its there. He IS getting better about it, in the last two arcs especially since he's started loading in a lot more female fighters among Big Mom and Kaidou.
Yeah. One Piece has always had a couple of female characters in the main ranked villains, but the most notable thing to me with both Big Mom and Kaido's crew is the mix of women in the rank and file crew which before Whole Cake were almost always 100% male or close.
-
RE: What is the false-named fruit the Five Elders are talking about?
Fate's always been a big theme of One Piece, though it's never been clear how much of it is at play. Blackbeard's crew seem to almost use it like plot armor at times.
-
RE: Official Wano Thread
Usopp almost always gets good material in the arcs he's in. I'm okay with him taking a backseat in one.
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
@Cyan:
Law is incredibly fuckable.
Fuckability accounts for 80% of how well a character does in these polls.
Oda's also very aware of this since he said he was relieved when Hancock was a popular character meaning he clearly succeeded at her 'Most Beautiful' title.
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
Pekoms will already be on Zou with Pedro in tow to wrap up Carrot's story.
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
I can't say how the Minks were received in Japan, but they've generally seemed well-received in the West. The reveal about them protecting Raizo feels like one of the more iconic One Piece scenes, and a lot of people tired of Dressrosa talked about how Zou felt like an upward wind for the series with it seeming like a well-received arc as a whole.
-
RE: Chapter 1,039: Top Billing
I'm pretty sure the grim reaper is just a visual representation of Zoro fighting death after he overdid it even more than usual.
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
Am I the last holdout who still thinks Jimbei was the final crew member?
I feel we'll get an announcement once the crew is fully complete.

RE: Ousama Ranking (Ranking of Kings)
Anyone that likes One Piece needs to be watching this show.
Yeah. I started watching during the time in between the show and told my friend literally the same thing. I've also seen a couple of other people express the same thoughts.

RE: EA SUCKS but so does Bioware Thread
I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to, so it sounds like a bug….other than Alistair automatically killing him if he's the representative.
-
RE: EA SUCKS but so does Bioware Thread
There are about several scenarios for Alistair to have died at this point between execution, dying to the archdemon, and dying to Nightmare.
Speaking of which, I remember people talking about having Hawke stay behind because they definitely wouldn't die when it'll now have been at least 8 years since.
I mean to be pretty fair Lohgain shouldn’t be on the team.
I put that traitorous asshole to the blade.
Him getting recruited seems like pretty standard Grey Warden business. It's also a pretty common 'villain joins party' scenario with I think his writer, Mary Kirby, even comparing it to Magus in Chrono Trigger.
Alistair being upset about Loghain joining makes sense since he still killed Alistair's father/mentor figure and is now basically being asked to call Loghain a brother even if storming of is a bad & selfish decision with the Blight going on (admittedly, he didn't know either that Grey Wardens were explicitly needed at this point).

RE: Cowboy Bebop
I thought it did pretty decently, so that's surprising.
-
RE: EA SUCKS but so does Bioware Thread
With that much time passed, it also feels like we should start seeing some of the wardens from Origins/Awakening going on their Calling.
-
RE: One Piece Magazine
In general, female characters seem to do better in international popularity polls than purely Japanese ones (at least for battle shonen manga).

RE: EA SUCKS but so does Bioware Thread
So apparently today is Dragon Age Day:
And they decided to throw us a chicken bone with two little short stories:
https://www.ea.com/games/dragon-age/news/wont-know-when?fbclid=IwAR2V7L1Sekj-P22V9O_57WO4-lajfOQTNxQnFBamdL7ColDeTuNAEAhQRFI
https://www.ea.com/games/dragon-age/news/the-eternal-flame?fbclid=IwAR3hC5ObIqZFqxQ88OQWgh7mBxN3tMPs5aNgpCKGIz1L6xGwwx3uJJppgoQOne about Wardens, and the other apparently set in Tevinter!
The second story seems to indicate DA4 will take place at least 8 years after Inquisition which will line up with about the real amount of time between releases.
-
RE: One Piece Magazine
Thanks sandman!
Finally a confirmation that Oda doesn't share the fans' expectations for x00 chapters and big things happening in those is a coincidence at most
It says the opposite of that? At least for chapter 1000.
I gradually felt pressured around chapter 980 when my editors started some celebration plans. I had a difficulty trying to spice up the story just in time for chapter 1000.
-
RE: Cowboy Bebop
I haven't watched the live-action so I'm just using impressions, but a boring character with little screentime is generally better than a lame character with a lot more screentime.
-
RE: EA SUCKS but so does Bioware Thread
Technically, we have had comics and books released since than.
-
RE: EA SUCKS but so does Bioware Thread
At the very least, I feel like I would have rather had like 2-3 Dragon Age 2's in the time it's taken to get to Dragon Age 4.
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)
I suppose the bar was set quite high when it was established an 11 year old kid defeated Zoro many times, even though Zoro could defeat adults. Tama could have easily been written to be a fighter like her, yet for some reason she wasn't.
Tama's even younger, and it's a plot point that the grunts in this arc are notably tougher than the grunts from previous arcs.
Also, Tama's devil fruit is hyper-specialized for the story's current situation.

RE: It's the TeamFourStar Thread with DBZ Abridged and Pokemon things
I guess it could be said that TFS is now in Dragon Ball Abridged GT.

RE: Red Hood
How have you been around the internet since 2007 and can still take a change.org petition here seriously?

RE: One Piece Live-Adaptation Drama Announced
I just assumed they'd make Chopper's human form a regular human and have him in that form most of the time to save money outside action scenes.

RE: One Piece Live-Adaptation Drama Announced
@Cyan:
I can't get over Sanji being played by a guy that looks like Dollar Store Eminem.
For one, the guy should've been cast as Enel.
If One Piece is successful enough to get to Enel, maybe they can just straight up get Eminem to play him.
