@Zephray Unfortunately, it's all sub-only. Also, all these episodes were briefly uploaded there several weeks ago, but then taken down. Guess someone jumped the gun lol.

$25 seems a little steep for just a movie these days...any ideas if/when they'll run a better deal? I haven't bought a physical release in several years now.

@AceLuffy4ever Yes, it was two parts, but they only dubbed the second half (which was episode 590 of OP, the first half was Toriko ep 99 which will probably never be dubbed unless they somehow decide to resume dubbing the show again). Blame Toei for splitting up a special like that basically lol.

@Captain-Krupp Yeah, but it'd be nice if it was more widely accessible (not everyone is a boomer like me and still has cable lol). @AceLuffy4ever Yep. Others are even closer though. Taiwan, Korea and Thailand all do simuldubs (only a couple episodes behind Japan).

@Luffy_80 Actually, upon further investigation, they're at episode 1045 (which just aired last week and was the end of new episodes for a while).

Curiously, it didn't look like they dubbed the recap episodes that have been sprinkled through Wano. I wonder if we're going to be getting them (could be possible, other countries dubbed them).

@Kaiolino Ah, color me surprised then. I figured we were still relegated to half chapters. Maybe there's a little hope we'll have some (relatively) decent pacing in the future.

Haven't watched new eps in ages and I'm curious: Have there been any episodes in Wano that have covered a full chapter or nah?

So I've (slowly but surely) been going back and doing comparisons between the TV and DVD versions of Skypiea, and I'll say there was definitely very little swearing going on so they didn't have to do too many alternate lines. Wouldn't surprise me if early Water 7/Ennis Lobby was light on the swearing, on the off chance the show would go back to kids TV.

@Zephray I think this shows that they're willing to go back and dub old stuff, now that we're in the home stretch of getting caught up. The timing sorta made sense on this one too I guess, because Toonami's in the middle of Punk Hazard right now (at episode 605 right now, this special was ep 590).

Who knows, maybe ep 590 was part of Toonami's episode order package and everyone just decided they should go ahead and dub it so it could air??

Good news, Netflix reinstated episodes 1-61 in all regions (and the other episodes won't be leaving either)!

Looks like it's eps. 1-130 that are leaving in the US on Feb 11th, with Latin America losing East Blue on the same date, and Alabasta on Feb 27th.

Rumors having been swirling about Netflix tapering down on anime in general, so maybe they opted not to renew the licenses?

@Captain-Krupp Yep I knew about that, but I think HMax only has up to ep 130 and Azteca 7 only started from Water 7, so that'll leave Skypiea and whatever Azetca hasn't aired yet without a platform for the time being (and those were only released within the last year....)

The absurd thing is that Netflix was (and still is) the only home for the brand new Latin American dubs for a huge swath of episodes. Crazy stuff.

@Elektrik-Dynomite Assuming this isn't a hiccup on Netflix's end (which it has been in the past with other shows), I'd say it could be a possibility that Crunchyroll gets the host the show exclusively both subbed and dubbed (in similar fashion, old seasons of Bleach were recently yanked off Crunchyroll and other platforms internationally to get hosted exclusively on Disney-related platforms, because they likely ponied up the cash to do so along with nabbing the rights to stream the latest season).

But that said, it doesn't really seem to be Toei's style in restricting their shows to one single platform (especially since, of course, the live action show is coming and I'd think they'd want to get the original show out to as many people in as many different places as possible to drum up interest). Hard to say though in the end, anime licensing is just so overly-complex these days, it's hard to keep up with things.

Korea's done a simuldub since 2016 and technically Taiwan has for longer than that (they've been pretty close behind the Japanese broadcast for a long time, but that's also somewhat typical over there for other anime). Germany's also getting pretty close themselves to catching up, with ep 1000 premiering in the near future, and France has always been a season or so behind for a while, so there's really no restrictions.

Never thought I'd see the day we'd get to this point though. I'd happily go for a simuldub!

@Luffy_80 With the way Wano was drawn out, there's no way Oda's wrapping things up in less than 200 chapters (been thinking for a while that his target is 2027 for the 30th anniversary, with the anime following suit in 2029-ish).

Provided we keep dubbing at the current pace, we'll be caught up in '24, so we'll be needing to make some big, long-term decisions (which I could see hinging on what Crunchy's simuldub landscape looks like by then).

Just a heads up, no OP this week for a Halloween marathon. Then next week on November 5th, it seems we're going down to only one episode at 1:30am. No word if that's permanent or not, but it looks like it might be (which is sad, I was really liking that hour....)

Yeah we're definitely in a much, much better place now. But boy, did it sure take an awfully long time to get here. It's kind of crazy to think that pretty much anything 4kids-related was only in the public eye for a grand total of 3-4 years, but caused so much upheaval for so long. The 00's bubble popping certainly didn't do us any favors in relaunching the brand, and Toei's lack of communication and fickleness surely didn't help either, but at least they're putting their all into things now.

And about the dub's "popularity", I wouldn't put a lot of stock into it. Many, or perhaps the majority, are assuredly watching it without any qualms on platforms where it's available (which, again, hasn't always exactly been widely viewable thanks to Toei and Co.). On Netflix for instance, data shows that people (in North America anyway) are more likely to finish or watch more a foreign program dubbed than if just a subbed option is available. Anyone that tells you otherwise is just part of a very loud and vocal group, as I'm sure we've all encountered.

Yeah, everything's been pretty vague from what I can see. Quite possible they were or were planned to be dubbed before hitting this roadblock and we're stuck with the original Japanese (at least until further notice). It's actually happened several times in recent years where distributors made dubbed OPs/EDs for shows, but then weren't allowed to use them (new dubs of Sailor Moon come to mind).

Maybe wouldn't hurt to ask her again more directly, but I'd wager she probably wouldn't be able to tell us anything.

Really hoping they dub Uta's music for the film, what a waste it'd be of Amalee's talent not to. Apparently France got the go-ahead to dub them, so here's hoping.

So a few notes about Red's dub here:
-Luffy's VA is Ketan Kava https://www.instagram.com/p/CjRog67qjrc/?hl=en (pretty sure this is the first male VA for Luffy in recent years).
-Uta's song were undubbed and it seems many attack names were given pretty poor translations, or weren't even said at all

-Odex distributed the film instead if Sony (I'm surprised they still have the rights in SE Asia)

Considering quite a few of Toei's have been dubbed into Hindi lately (Dragon Ball Super, the Digimon Adventure reboot), stands to reason OP could get some time to shine in the near future!

Been a pretty wild ride. Never thought we'd actually catch up with Japan but we're finally almost there. Here's to seeing everything dubbed one day!

@Sano I think any future Dragon Ball series will be the same deal as One Piece, in that Toei handles all distributional affairs for the show (superseding whatever relationship CR has with Toonami and others). Toei loves the prospect of shows being on TV (which is why OP's back there now), so stands to reason future Dragon Ball will go there too, even if CR were to protest.

@Sano I've theorized that Toei's pushed to rejuvenate/catch international releases up these past few years in anticipation for the live action series, piggybacking off the publicity and whatnot. Them having more of a handle over international distribution has also helped them in that regard as well.

While we all seem to be playing catch up here, thought I'd chime in with a few updates:

-OP's back on free-TV in Mexico, starting with episode 207 (probably for HD purposes like Toonami in the States did). Interestingly, these airings have localized credits and title cards, as well as the show logo having no Katakana in it (first I've even seen that done before). Opening's still not dubbed though, of course.

-On Netflix, the dub is up to episode 325, with more on the way soon.

-Episode of Alabasta, Strong World, Film Z, Gold, and Stampede are also streaming across Netflix and HBO Max as well. Film Red is said to be coming to theaters soon, dubbed.

Things are definitely on a roll there, good to see it!

@LostTimeLord Not to get even more off-topic here (to be honest it'd be better suited for Kanzenshuu, but I'd have to bump an equally ancient thread there as well lol), but there's actually an update on that, too. ABC ME in Australia recently started airing episodes 53+ of Super, and it appears that Funi did in fact do edited lines for those episodes. So why Pop didn't receive these materials and had to do their own butcher job themselves, who knows?

Getting back on topic though, I'd say OP's chances of getting on kids TV abroad are probably rather slim, but I'd say definitely possible on channels aimed at teen/adult demographics (see OP's return on Adult Swim and

Pop switched to the Toonami dub in late 2019, so it wouldn't have been COVID. The switch also didn't line up with their 'season' breaks, so I assume that they simply got what they were given.

One thing I'm kind of curious about - the exact timeframe season 3 dubbing ended and Season 1 started. According to the post I linked on the previous page, up to episode 179 was apparently "completed well before it left CN", which would've been March of 2008. So, I guess it's possible all, or most of Skypeia (and presumably G8 up to episode 205) was mostly finished by that point, but then the very first Voyage also came in April 2008 (a month earlier before the street date courtesy of ritestuff), so that needed to have been started some months before that. I know dubbing out of order isn't uncommon per say, but was there a point where they were they actually recording both seasons simultaneously? It's no wonder Funi got their wires crossed so much with this stuff if that's the case.

Kinda, but it's worth bearing in mind that:

1. In the UK, Dragon Ball Super switched to the 'uncut dub' in the same way that One Piece did in Australia ("Hercule" reverted to "Mr Satan" part way through the run, for example). I don't know if an 'edited dub' was used for those later episodes in other countries.
2. The edited version of DBS doesn't use re-drawn animation like the edited DBZ and OP did. Problematic shots are simply cut out or substituted with footage from elsewhere in the episode.

I don't believe episodes 53+ of Super have run on any other children's outlet that would require an edited version, so it doesn't appear so (which is odd they would only create a separate version for half the show - maybe covid had something to do with that?).

Yes, that would make sense, especially since in episode 179 I found that "Light the Fire of Loftra" slipped in by accident, so the only thing left unfinished probably would have been the visual censorship.

I don't think even some of the actors were aware it aired in Austrailia. It's been so long, but I recall Tatum just taken aback some fans were familiar with his performance.

Oh sure by all means - those are all 640 x 480 and the most "complete" versions that were floating around out there to my knowledge.

And yeah, probably no one outside of licensing and delivering the show to CN AU were aware of it. I do wonder if they ever went back and made edited version of the rest of Skypiea in hopes another network here in the states would pick it up (or if they even did alternate edited takes from the beginning of East Blue). It's probably been so long no one involved would even remember haha.

Definitely a regime change. Jason DeMarco and a lot of the original Toonami crew were taken off the block beforehand I believe. The Toonami block filled some slots with Bakugan and Ben 10 Alien Force and I don't think the block made it to the end of the year. Anime was phased out in favor of original animation, and the loathed CN Real shows.

Yep, but at least from Funimation's point of view, there was a glimmer of hope that they'd buy more episodes, as they kept rolling on ahead with editing things until episode 174. Digging through the threads, a person closely associated with the editing process by the name "Ummyeahokay", said that the edited versions of the episodes actually went through episode 179, but the last few were "not mixed" for broadcast (unfortunately, nobody here even believed them that when they said the Australian broadcast would likely switch over to the uncut version because the editing not being competed, until after the actual airing of episode 175 there).

Strange times indeed, thankfully Cartoon Network Australia stepped up to give us what they had at the time (or else it would've been almost three full years until we finally saw the rest of Skypeia dubbed on the Voyages from where Toonami left off!)

Oh and by the way Steve, I checked those other copies you gave me, with the exception of one rip that had a stray commercial bumper on it, all the other rips were identical to what I have, so we're good. As for what's next….well there are still select episodes that are only 320x480 and not the best of quality (but I'm for sure not losing any sleep over it lol). Should anyone else come across more high quality stuff though, please feel free to post them here!

Also, I'm thinking about doing full episode comparisons with the Voyages sorta like DBZ Uncensored / or the 4kids episode guide Cinder used to have back in the day (and has talked about rebooting that in some form.... :ninja:), but we'll see!

A few weeks ago LSuperSonicQ's video about your search made its way into my feed and I was happy to find out it was talking about the forgotten CN broadcast version of Skypiea. As an avid supporter of this dub from the beginning I made sure to download the TV rips as they were posted on this very forum almost 15 years ago, even the Australian/New Zealand airings.

I knew I had these stashed on a very old external drive, stored away somewhere in my parents' home. It was retrieved, and spent about a week shipping across the country, but as of now the drive is back in my possession, and while it doesn't seem like I have every episode on hand, I do have all the missing episodes you seek! I'm not sure how often you check this thread, but I'll try to DM you as well so I can get these in your hands.

I think that LSuperSonicQ video could have summarised things a bit better. Anyone unfamiliar with One Piece will probably get the impression that the TV dub was entirely different to the DVDs, when of course the changes are relatively minor.

I agree, and I clarified a bit down in the comments section as to what's specifically left to find. Showing those episode titles and filenames was definitely good though.

(Also, you could say those edited episodes qualify as an "alternate" dub, given how many substantial name and dialogue changes there were lol).

Yeah as Krupp says, they're good for the timeslot (in fact, it's even beaten stuff that aired earlier in the night, which is rare since people start to tune out the later it gets).
