I sincerely enjoyed the book (though the fourth remains my favorite).
I'll agree that it did feel a little rushed, but that didn't detract at all from it. I thought there were some great, if not corny, character moments (see Mrs. Weasely).
! I cannot believe that I honestly feel sorry for Snape. I realize that he did some despicable things, but in the end he was, for me, the most heroic character. He's so human, and it was just a delightful experience to read that chapter about his past. He's my new favorite character.
! Regarding the final battle, it didn't really upset me at all. I wasn't expecting a really epic struggle between Harry and Voldemort, I figured it'd be kinda short. Still, the battle of Hogwarts was pretty kick-ass. When Sprout listed all of those plants and said, "Let's see the Death Eaters deal with that!," I had to take a moment to let the awesome sink in.
! Also, my favorite Death Eater, Bellatrix, had a most appropriate death.
In the raspy voice of a sixty-year-old woman who has been smoking for 45:
"Come here, hot stuff, you look like you've had a long day."
Anything on the album "Soundso" by Wir Sind Helden.
It's very lyrically rewarding.
For me, Usopp easily stole the colorspread. Fantastic.
I'm very much looking forward to some Perona next chapter!!
Wahahahaha!!!11!1! I am so unbelievably pumped for this. In fact, this entire week for me is wasted because every day is just build-up to Saturday.
Janken, those three pictures you posted gave me a gigantic Pottergasm.
Grrr…Still only Wednesday.
I have some major wikipediaing to do to figure out what in the name of Martha Byrne you all are talking about.
From what I can understand from my last 5 minutes of "research," the Cthulhu idea sounds pretty cool.
Also, danke fuer eure Hilfe.
Ich hab' abernoch eine Frage: Was heisst auf englisch "verglimmt?"
z.B. "nichts davon verglimmt nicht mit der Zeit"
Die Quelle ist "Soundso" von der Gruppe Wir Sind Helden.
Danke, und ich hoffe, dass ihr versteht.
Yeah, ummm…
I liked the part where Perona made a funny face.
A: Yes, PETA will go after them just to get the media attention.
Q: On what does the Navy base its nickname for Chopper (Cotton Candy Eater)?
Greg, your post vexes me. Are you advocating this so-called "witch-hunt" becuase you believe it to be an effective means of weeding out the Pedos, or are you (jokingly, of course) trying to get us to think of the poor, persecuted pedophiles?
@lpzie: What is "nuns-with-guns having fun?" I'm just curious, that's all. Nothin' strange going on over here.
That is all.
Vielen Dank, Ivotas. Deine lange Antworten gefallen mir so sehr! Ich bin total dankbar, dass du die Zeit nimmst (Ich will sagen: "that you're willing to take the time).
If it didn't say that you live in Frankfurt, I'd have no idea that you weren't American").
Nochmal, vielen Dank!
Hey alle! Danke fuer eure Hilfe.
Ach, Deutsch macht mir so vieles Spass! Korreckturen machen mich auch ganz froh!
Also, was meinst du? Willst du sagen, dass deutsch nicht deine Muttersprache ist? Ich auch nicht. Ich bin ein Vollamerikaner.
Sorry, for bumping this, but it had to be done!
Was braucht AP Forums? Mehr Deutsch! Komm dann, Leute, ich will ueben.
What has happened to the Disney musical? Remember Pocahontas or The Little Mermaid? I fear, friends, that this is the harbinger of the fall of Western civilization.
Ah, at long last summer vacation has arrived, and I am, at long last, a high school senior. My family and I went out to the lake today, and tonight we're going to see Pirates of the Carribean. I heard it wasn't that great (Traitor Jim would seem to agree ;)).
I think this summer'll be a good one.
Oh, I think he wants it.
I got a giggle out of that.
I just thought that your story would work well in a poem format. Either way, it's a beautiful story, and I think it's brevity only adds to its beauty.
I was just reading about Japanese aesthetics, and I think you have captured "wabi" or "yuugen" or something like that. I don't really see the distinction. Anyway, maybe you should write it as a poem, even if just as an exercise. It's just a suggestion; do what you will with your art.
Ah, to be able to go to Tokyo.
Congratulations Greg, and best wishes.
A: Luffy would need to find another male love-buddy.
Q: To be or not to be?
While it goes against my values to say who's pain was harder to endure, Nami's history was certainly the one that touched me the most. She just had so much to deal with: Her parents were taken from her, then her adoptive mother was taken from her, and she took it all in stride. She sacrificed herself for her village, and never whined. Nami's the kind of person I'd want to hang out with.
Robin's past was also devastating, but she reacted to the trauma differently than Nami, partly due to the different circumstances of their tragedies. Robin adapted and kept moving. I don't think she "hurt less" than Nami, it's just that I had a deeper reaction to Nami's history.
Chopper's story never struck me as particularly sad, but it's been a while since I read it. Maybe it's just the fact that he's a reindeer, and not a person at all. (I'm joking with that last sentence; I don't want PETA coming to my house tonight).
A: Superman "rescues" Bearsy, takes him to a remote island, has his way with him, and then returns him to Perona's care.
Q: What is Bearsy's deeper significance to One Piece's plot? What does he symbolize? Be sure to use textual evidence.
@ Buuhan: I don't really see why Brooke should have to gain skin to join the crew. I mean, isn't his whole draw the "gentleman skeleton" thing?
Though, I would like to see what Brooke looked like before he decomposed.
Rootbeer, how delightfully unrelated! What a diversion! (I did, actually, find it very enjoyable).
Oh, I'm beginning to think that Brooke will indeed join the crew, though that still isn't entirely clear. Oda could want us to think that Brooke's going to join. Or maybe he wants us to think that he thinks that we think Brooke will join. Ah, the dizzying mind of an artist.
I do think Brooke will have to defeat Ryuuma, for the sake of his honor…and his ancestors...and his daimyou. If someone else beats Ryuuma, then Brooke's existence for the last five years was in vain.
This Oz fellow is an interesting development. He is terribly big, isn't he? As for what I think will happen, that rebellion theory sounds pretty good. Yeah, I'll go with that.
I do like this story, really I do.
We're off to see the wizard...
Oooh, "the park." I like that. It's so…general.
Welcome, Pell, to "The Park."
(To be read in a thick Scottish burl): Hello Laddie, and welcome to the Park. Do ya think ya can handle it?
I'm guessing that Brooke'll be on the cover, and maybe Hogback and Cindry. Of course some of the Strawhats will also make appearances. I'm guessing we won't see Absalom, Perona, etc. until the next volume.
I know it's cliche, but by God I can't help myself! I am a huge SanZo fan; as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't get much better than that. Though, this SanZoNa talk has peaked my interest…
A: The Lift Lift Fruit.
Q: If Adam weighs 8 lbs and Gordon weighs 12 lbs, how many acorns can Charles the Chipmunk fit into his mouth at once?
A. He signed a contract with Jiffy.
Q. Does Chopper really prefer Jiffy, or is he doing it for the money?
They're after you, Ocean. Be wary, for the sake of all of us at AP.
I agree that there is most definantely (probably) more to Saul than what we have seen. I think FFA is right, Oda didn't add that "D" because he was bored. As for whether or not Saul and Moria are connected, I don't really see any evidence to support this yet. Either way, I'm certain we'll here more about Saul somewhere down the (Grand) line.
Regarding Hogback, my gut tells me that he's not a zombie. I think the only story left to tell with him involves Cindry.
Go on, read it. What's there to lose? Trust me, get through the first ten volumes or so and it's gold. It'll be well worth your while.
A) She'll hold out on him, if you know what I mean (nudge nudge, wink wink)
Q) You don't think Nami and Zoro really…I mean...
Zoro all the way. He's handsome, shy, and clueless. I just love his scenes with Tashigi. Oh Zoro, shall I compare thee to a summer's day?…
I'm Aaron, but you can call me Wanda. (Ah, it's good to see my over-sharing gene is as active as ever).
A. I believe he wants to know about Finland's involvement in the second World War.
Q. (a fill in the blank): Finland, the country where I quite want to_____.
Well, if ever there was a chapter to hold me over for two weeks, that was it. This a stand-out chapter, not in that it has great weight for the story, but in that it accomplishes so much.
First, there was the Laura/Nami and co. interaction, which I just love. Nami's quick thinking, Chopper's gullibility, and Laura's emotional release: priceless. And then, seeing them inside of Kumashi, I nearly plotzed. I love how Oda set up Kumashi's unwilling silence; I never saw that coming into play later.
Then, and this was my favorite part, there was Perona and Hildon discussing "Zombie 900." I just can't wait to see what it looks like. I also liked the Perona/Absalom interaction and am greatly looking forward to seeing the Mysterious Four together.
And then there was Brooke. I suppose that in the coming chapters we'll here more about Thriller Bark from him, and if there's a flashback involved…Well, you know where I'm going. Frankly, I don't know (yet) whether or not Brooke will join the crew, nor am I particularly passionate either way. I can live with him not joining, but I can see him fitting in too. Honestly, my gut tends toward the "not joining" side, just because it's so soon. Well, I gues now we wait...and wait...and wait. Is 445 out yet?
I absolutely loved winged Robin. For me, that added a whole 10 points to the chapter. I don't think we'll see it again much in the future, though, it's usefullness is rather limited, isn't it? Still, it just looked so amazing seeing Robin with wings.
I, too, like seeing Robin and Franky together, but I think I'd like to see these two interact with any crew member just because they're both the newest members.
I am definitely looking forward to some Brooke action next week!
I've got to say, while I really enjoyed this chapter, I don't have anything too profound to say about it (Then why am I writing this comment?). Really, the chapter was awesome, enough said. I can't wait for the next!
Bienvenidos!
I trust you'll enjoy yourself.
Alright, one thing has me stumped. If shadows are stolen in order to reanimate the zombies, what happens to the bodies? Are they all in the forest like that one old man? Does this mean that Sanji is also in the woods? How did Brooke escape without hitting sunlight? (This particular question may have already been answered, I just can't recall).
Also, I may be splitting hairs here, but I think it's an important distinction to make. When the zombies are created, they receive aspects of the victim's personality. It is not as if the "soul" of the victim is infused into the zombie body. Case in point: Brooke/Ryuuma. Ryuuma has aspects of Brooke's personality, but Brooke is still 100% Brooke. So, this means that Sanji, personality and all, is out there somewhere.
I realize this is based entirely on speculation, but right now it's all we have.
Q. HELL YEAH!!!!
A. Can I get an "amen?"
