I think Thunderearthfire's first point was valid.

The fact that only authorized policy is allowed means that the world government allows piracy to happen. Meaning that the shikibukai can attack and pillage any island of civilians on the grandline if they want to. I believe they called it liberating the islands or something. So, obviously the point about shikibukai stands.

They also have a high tendancy to give orders that involve leaving no survivors. I. E. Buster calls and the order given to kuma. Mass killing is normally considered evil if I recall correctly.

The fact remains that the world government is an organization not a person and thus it can't really be called evil. Evil actions are carried out or ordered by people. So more accurately, the world government is run by evil people.

This is such a pathetic point of view. So now anything Oda does must be liked without question? He does not need you to protect him from his screw ups.
Skypiea could have been better in its actual arc. We could have had a better villain rather than some cookie cutter lunatic. The characters we met up there could have been memorable but they weren't. Finally, Robin doesn't actually do anything specific to obtain the trust luffy and co. Rather, Oda just needed her to participate in a longer arc to justify Enes Lobby.
Croc + Enel similarities.
1. Logias.
2. Both manipulate their perspective peoples. (If you don't remember, luffy and co originally entered the non cloud island because they were betrayed.)
3. Crocodile aims to rule the world. Enel considers himself god and already rules skypiea.
4. Luffy has to save alabasta and skypiea from abolute destruction.
Differences:
1. Dials ( just contextual fluff).
2. Huge gold reward at end.
3. Going merry mortally damaged.

Of all these examples, the differences are the essence of the story and the similarities are mostly contextual fluff. The only thing of note that occurred was the damage to merry. But that story was only begun in skypiea. It was finished and played out in the next arc.

So is it really wrong to desire not to get a repeat crocodile arc? Why is it bad to want a better one? I am not railing against all of Oda's work, just the work that was awful.
I loved Crocodile's arc, Ennes Lobby, and a much of thriller bark although that arc is not quite done yet. I am not going to give admiration where it is not deserved. I am not an idiot who cannot think for himself. You can pretend it was good. I will not.

Wow, in 3 pages I have not once seen anyone mention the real reason that skypiea is a horrible arc.
1. Enel is just a pitiful repeat of Crocodile and thus we had to watch luffy spend a second entire arc saving a nation of people from slaughter by the evil villain.
2. Weapon upgrades do not make an arc more than for show. Especially when those weapon upgrades were handed to the bottom two strawhats(The guys who weren't making much of a difference anyway).

The only positive side to Skypiea is that it gives credibility to the strawhats wanting to save Robin in Enes Lobby.

Which means that this arc is not even standalone in its importance as it relies completely on the Enes Lobby arc to be worth anything. Thus not quite a filler arc but close to one and really a better job could have been done.

In fact any arc during which Robin fought alongside the strawhats would have served the purpose of solidifying their trust in her.

Which is why Skypiea is one of the worst arcs of one piece.

ug, I am all for Zoro bad ass moments but how in hell does this fit with Kuma's character who was seconds before a government assassin who was fine with killing everyone on the island?

Why are we getting another Aokiji moment? One was enough. Fighting with must resume and atleast meet a draw. Otherwise, he is setting a stupid pattern of win, lose, power up, win and it is getting tiresome. Especially since each loss really should have resulted in death. How many times can the guy who utterly destroys them have merciful moments.(IE clear sign of mercy when Kuma goes from killing everyone on the island to allowing Zoro to stand in for Luffy.)
