It's disappointing to not see Dog's and Cat's Sulong forms with the way the last chapter ended. We can barely even see how the other minks look. And of course we cut away from the scene just when it's about to really start.

RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 8 - Onigashima)
He calls him Yamao, which is the same kind of nickname he calls Law (Torao). Yamato even protests in the following page.
It's a masculine nickname as well. Luffy aknowledges Yamato as a man.
lol I didn't notice, thank you.

RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 8 - Onigashima)
What nickname? Luffy literally calls Yamato by name on page 12.

Which OS are you using because it is still the same for me ?
Yeah unfortunately only on iOS for now.

In case someone hasn't noticed it yet, the Manga Plus app now allows you to read the chapters in landscape mode. No more split double-page spreads if you read on your phone.

It seems weird for me, rather than One Piece having multiple breaks from now on it's the JUMP that should be doing it so every mangaka had a healthy work environment.
They announced today/yesterday that there will be more breaks in general: https://www.shonenjump.com/j/2050/05/11/500511_oshirase001.html

RE: Oda's Interviews
So after the next chapter, he's going on hiatus due to reorganize his work? Or he's talking about future multiple breaks in the magazine?
The latter. There is a mistake in the translation that they already corrected.
"That is why, although I think the interruption period will be shorter" changed to "That is why I think there will be more interruptions from now on". -
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 7 - Wano)
I love the “Carrot’s gonna be the look out” then we’re like “you know Usopp’s pretty much got that covered”
Then this chapter the first time we need a look out, the time for Carrot to shine and show why she deserves the position, who goes into the lookout position spots the bad guys and stops them….. not Carrot but Usopp
And now you guys are like “Well she’s not gonna do it everytime”
Then when the f**k is she gonna do it
It would be like if the wave big mom created was coming down and Jinbei’s like “hey with my helmsman skills I can easily save us from this typhoon.... but Chopper you should do it instead”
Like I’m not even that opposed to Carrot joining, I’m kind of on the fence leaning a little to not joining but still considering it a possibility.... but one thing I don’t agree on is the stupid look out argument, the newest chapter was her time to shine and show why she deserves to be lookout..... and then Usopp handled it
I think another problem is the presumed lookout position itself.
Every single strawhat excels in their craft and has showcased amazing feats. They will be the absolute best in the world at what they do(some of them probably already are).
Maybe it's just my lack of imagination but I struggle to see what exactly Carrot would do as a lookout that no one else in the world could do just as good? She can stay awake at night? -
RE: Chapter 978: Introducing the Tobi Roppo
The panel of Onigashima is amazing. That skull alone is so huge it would completely dwarf Oars' entire body. I wonder if that gigantic blade belonged to that monster or if it was used to kill it. Imagine Kid throws that blade at Kaido.

Sorry, did you just say Oda drew Zoro with the Gomu Gomu fruit?
When did that happen??Last year in OP Magazine 6:

RE: Chapter 974: Onward to Onigashima!
Jack looking for Raizo specifically was probably the biggest hint after all, because aside from the minks only Momonosuke, Kinemon and Kanjuro could have known that he was there.
Kanjuro knows about the Road Poneglyph on Zou, which should mean that Orochi and therefore Kaido know as well. I'm assuming the reason Kaido didn't immediately get it is because they don't have a vivrecard to reach Zou anymore after Jack and his fleet were crushed? Or did Orochi for some reason not inform Kaido about it? I'll go with the former.
Kanjuro also witnessed Momonosuke giving orders to Zunesha, surely Orochi and Kaido would want to control that power. -
RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
I wonder what your thoughts are with Oden's official intro (where he ate Oden on a crematory funeral corpse). In western Society we would call such an act "inappropriate" at least. Is this sth different in Japanese Society?

RE: Chapter 969: Fool of a Lord
From chapter 819:
This was weird and fucked up, I like it. I love that panel on the last page where they cross the bridge. Expectations for the rest of this flashback are high.
I'm a little bit disappointed though that the theft of Ryuma's corpse and shusui was completely skipped. I really want to learn more about Ryuma. -

RE: Chapter 966: Roger and Whitebeard
Very interesting, so the plan for Oden was to return to Whitebeard after he reached Laugh Tale with Roger, but after learning the secret of the world he decided to go back to Wano and become the shogun to open the country's borders. Roger and Whitebeard had their last meeting in Wano because that's where they saw Oden off.
Whitebeard and Shanks must have held a deep grudge against Kaido all these years. Now I'm even more curious to see Shanks' confrontation with Kaido before the paramount war. I wonder if at some point it will get addressed why Cat and Dog didn't ask for Shanks' help in the upcoming battle like they did with Marco.
Crocus says Roger has got one more year to live at best, but this is still around two years before his death. They haven't been to Zou yet, which Pedro said happened 26 years ago(chapter 830).
Great chapter, the last panel gives me goosebumps:
The pages on Mangaplus are misplaced. The page where Oden discovers Neko and Inu as stowaways on Roger's ship is in front of the page where he leaves with Roger's ship…
Both of these things happen on the same page.

RE: New MANGA Plus service from Shueisha (global, legal, simul, free, English releases)
I've read Artur's take and I'm baffled by his disdain for the official translation. It's not as bad as he makes it out to be.
I remember years ago when there was an article on the op podcast site about scanlations vs official release and this guy was whining about about how it's apparently wrong and disrespectful to the japanese language to translate stuff like "shichibukai" to "Seven Warlords of the Sea" or "yonkou" to "Four Emperors" et cetera.
The fact that he has such a large audience is baffling.Artur is yet another voice saying that JB's dialogue is more readable than Viz's. Which is an argument I absolutely cannot see the sense in. I feel like I'm going crazy here, I'm sure even people who preferred JB in the past had admitted that it reads too stiff and literal, as a trade-off for it being more accurate. But now it's apparently the peak of dialogue? The whole part about the language used in the official release made no goddamn sense to me.
I completely agree, it's ridiculous.

RE: Chapter 964: Oden's Adventure
Unless Oden temporarily returned to Wano with Toki, which seems unlikely, it means that she gave birth to Momo and Hiyori during this adventure, which I didn't expect at all, simply because I thought it would be way too dangerous. Imagine one year old Momonosuke at the Battle of Edd War.
Also does that mean Toki, Momo and Hiyori were on Laugh Tale as well or was that actually too dangerous and Oden dropped them off somewhere safe until his return? Maybe the reason Cat and Dog didn't travel to Laugh Tale was because they were assigned to stay with them? Maybe on Zou, since we know the Roger Pirates were there one year before they reached Laugh Tale. I'm curious to find out how exactly all of this played out.Someone on reddit pointed out that on the panel where Oden is on fire we can see what is likely Marco in his phoenix form:

That would explain how he managed to get Izo on the ship without pulling up the chain. -
RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
Just a little prediction.
Mihawk will appear in the current flashback. He came to Wano to challenge Oden sometime after Roger's execution. -
RE: Chapter 962: Daimyo and Vassals
Kawamatsu is a Kappa, not a Fishman.
Or he is a fishman that doesn't know he is one. We don't know yet.
-
RE: Chapter 962: Daimyo and Vassals
Lovely chapter.
Oden is great and all of the Akazaya Nine are adorable.
We get another glimpse of Shimotsuki Ushimaru, who I'm very interested in.
How did Cat and Dog even end up in Wano? And Kawamatsu as well if he is indeed a fishman, where was he born?Also now we know exactly when this scene from chapter 942 took place:

RE: Chapter 959: Samurai
How many chapters do you guys think the flashback will be?
My guess is 8-10 chapters, which would be the longest so far.
- Oden being expelled from the capital;
- Oden becoming daimyo of Kuri and finding his nine retainers;
- Oden leaving Wano to join Whitebeard;
- Oden falling in love with Lady Toki;
- Oden learning about the connections of the Kouzuki clan with the history of the world, learning to write and read in the ancient language, learning about the Poneglyphs;
- Oden developing his dream to open the borders of Wano;
- Some insight into the "dawn of the world";
- Oden joining Roger to go to Laftel (arguably won't come up in the flashback);
- Oden's return to Wano, Kaidou's attack and his death;
- Why Nekomamushi and Inuarashi started fighting against each other.
Probably also more insight on Ryuma and of course the theft of Shusui. I wonder if Toki actually met Ryuma personally on her travels.

Interesting, this is what the official release says:

RE: Chapter 957: ULTIMATE
Luffy was labeled an "emperor" after the BM attack. Teach after taking WB's territory. It has to do with making a big move on a Yonkou. Unlike Urouge, Kidd and others
By the newspaper, it's clear though that the world doesn't yet view him truly as an equal to the others.
-
RE: Chapter 957: ULTIMATE
@No:
Didn't notice Fujitora was travelling through the Calm Belt until now.
He's not in the Calm Belt (or at least not yet), otherwise the ship's sails would be furled and they would use paddles to move since there is no wind.

RE: Chapter 957: ULTIMATE
I wonder what Shanks ultimately did to manifest himself as an emperor. Blackbeard quickly conquered Whitebeard's territories after his death, but it wasn't until the Grudge War that the world labeled him an emperor, so I expect some specific event to have occurred in Shanks' case as well.
Judging by that panel of Roger and Garp facing the Rocks, Roger already didn't wear the strawhat anymore at that point, interesting.

RE: Chapter 956: BIG NEWS
Vegapunk can also create dragons, maybe his new creation is related to that.
Did Vegapunk clone Kuma and then turned the clones into cyborgs with Kizaru´s laser?
After what we learned in chapter 840, I think it's pretty much confirmed:

RE: Chapter 955: ENMA
A note + thoughts from me: all three translations have Hitetsu state that, if Zoro turns Enma black, that'll raise its "rank". That doesn't strike me, though, as saying that that would move it from the "21 Excellent Grade" to the "12 Supreme Grade"; I feel like he'd need to say that turning Enma black would "raise its grade" to have that meaning. Plus, otherwise you'd think there wouldn't be a set number of Skillful/Excellent/Supreme Grade swords if turning a blade black changed it from one to another. I'm guessing that, even in the same Grade, there are some swords that are "better" or more prestigious/strong than others (and Enma seems to be one such), so they're even "ranked" compared to each other, and so if Zoro turns Enma black, it'll be an even more prized and special Excellent Grade sword than it already is.
I guess the question then is what the difference between "rank" and "grade" is.
Oda uses the term 位列 in quotation marks:
The thing is, if this doesn't mean that the blade can achieve a higher "grade", then all Hitetsu is saying is that forging a blade into a black blade makes it more powerful, which we obviously knew already.
-
RE: Chapter 955: ENMA
If forging a blade black can increase its rank, then what is the rank of a Supreme Grade blade (like Whitebeard's Murakomugiri for example) after it's forged black?
Would it basically be considered Supreme Grade "plus" or would that create an entirely new rank that doesn't officialy exist yet (which would contradict the term "supreme" though) because either no one has ever achieved this feat yet or it happened only very recently compared to when this grade system was first established, potentially hundreds of years ago?I bring this up because I wonder what grade Mihawk's sword Yoru was before he forged it black, Great or Supreme?
I'd like to think the latter is true. After all he is the strongest swordsman in the world, it would be appropriate for him to have the strongest blade. And according to him, that is indeed the case.
[HIDE][/HIDE]A few more random questions out of many:
Regarding Shimotsuki Kozaburo, was he also the one who brought Sandai Kitetsu to the East Blue? If so, how and why? Was it taken from Hitetsu or did he give it away voluntarily? And how exactly did it end up in Ipponmatsu's shop? Is he also a descendant from Wano?
Now that it's almost confirmed that Koshiro and Kuina are Shimotsuki's, are we going to find out that Tashigi is one as well and that's why she looks like Kuina?
-
RE: Chapter 953: Once a Fox
Excellent chapter.
Zoro will definitely create his own Black Blade(Wado Ichimonji), for that reason alone I don't see him keeping Shusui after this arc. -

That Chibi Luffy looks good. Is that a new drawing?

RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
The Dragon that got slayed by Ryuma was actually the previous owner of the devil fruit that Kaido has now.
I like the idea, but according to Greg(latest OP podcast episode), the kanji Oda used in this chapter is specificially the one he typically uses to describe western style dragons. 竜 (Punk Hazard dragons for example) instead of 龍 like for Kaido and Momonosuke(as far as I understand).

Here is my translation for Oda's message about Law in ONE PIECE the 27th Log released 30 minutes ago
Question: Who have more highlight scenes than you imagined?(#5)
Oda: I have to mention Law. Actually it's not too much to say that all Supernovas have more highlight scenes than I imagined. I created Supernovas right before the chapter where they got introduced. None of them existed in my plot notebooks before that chapter. I was in desperate situation, worrying, "At this rate, Sabaody arc will not be interesting enough." Then, inspiration for 9 Supernovas came to my mind unconsciously. I should have reduced the number of Supernovas since they were too many, but after all, I made all of them appear in manga!! I'm really surprised they survive till now since I thought about half of them would drop out of tough New World already.
They are worst!! They are the worst generation, indeed.
I imagined Kid would become an important character, but…Law!! I didn't imagine he would become such an important character. Weekly serialization is a wonderland. [Eiichiro Oda]- Regarding this message, here are some trivia from interviews in 2010 ("Grand Countdown") and 2017.
- The plan for breaking up Straw Hats was already decided when Kuma was introduced in chapter 233. Editor Onishi advised Oda to spice up the story in Sabaody. Oda replied, "Would it be interesting if new characters appear?"
- Only 3 hours after this advice, Oda finished designing all Supernovas.

RE: Chapter 925: The Blank
The problem with that happening in the current arc, is that there are too many heavy hitters in Luffy’s Alliance and potential allies. Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Law, Shutenmaru, Kiku, Inuarashi, and Nekomamushi. (for the future we could also add in Kid, Hawkins, and Drake.)
This is not like WCI where Urouge could take down Snack and Luffy/Nami could take down Cracker, yet BM pirates (excluding Big Mom herself) still have enough firepower to easily overwhelm the Firetank/Fishmen/Germa/SH Alliance with relative ease. Currently in Wano arc, if King and Queen went down there would be nobody holding the Beast Pirates up except Kaido himself. To see it from the arc antagonists perspective, as of now King and Queen really cannot afford to go down that easily.
We haven't seen Kaido's full crew yet, there is just no way that the next strongest after Jack is someone like Holdem, who doesn't even have a real devil fruit. We have only seen one guy(Kyoshiro) from Orochi's side so far. Also we don't know yet who exactly will fight Kaido himself.
-
RE: Chapter 925: The Blank
@.access:
And the drawing really does show only the 4 Commanders against Fujitora and Ryokugyu (not including Sabo or Dragon). If it really was a 4x2 fight, then they are as strong as I hopped they would be. Also, good to know Belo didn't stayed in Kamabakka since first it seemed like all the men went to Mary Geoise while all the women stayed back.
That looks very much like Sabo with his pipe to me, not Belly Betty, which makes sense as we've seen these four together in chapter 908.
