The Jump cover is amazing!
I think the egghead incident will be the trigger for "the biggest battle in One Piece history"
Detective Conan 30th anniversary
Whether the final battles will happen on Laugh Tale or afterwards, I do think the great war will already be fully underway before we get there. Most major characters are already active, the revolutionaries are about to wage war against the celestial dragons and Imu has just caused worldwide earthquakes. It will only keep escalating from here.
I always imagined this massive war will last weeks, months, maybe even years.
It really annoys me that it even got to this point that an unfinished chapter had to be published. One Piece simply needs to go bi-weekly or even less frequent if necessary. You can also stop doing fan request cover pages and draw fewer colorspreads and jump covers to reduce the workload. Also as someone who doesn't care at all about the live-action series and not that much about the movies either, I wish Oda would only work on the manga.
As for the chapter, the more we see and hear about the celestial dragons atrocities, the more excited I am to finally see Dragon in action and unleash his anger on them.
@Deicide
Jump issues are already printed more than a week before they publish, so his comment, which again is talking about his past visit to LA, was written before the 2nd season announcement. But whether it was or wasnt't still doesn't imply a second trip.
About the chapter:
I've seen someone on a japanese blog speculate that the Buccaneers, who know the rhythm of Nika's heartbeat, are the ones who activated the iron giant 200 years ago, which makes a lot of sense.
@Deicide
The point is that there is no implication of another visit to the US. He was simply referring to the event in LA.
Based on the reactions to Saturn, the five elders just having eaten devil fruits like everyone else doesn't seem very likely to me as of now. I believe that they've been granted their powers directly by Imu themself, like making a pact with the devil. I don't think Imu's own abilites simply stem from a devil fruit either, I guess it's somewhat related to their creation though. Since an actual underworld does seem to exist, they might even be creatures from there that Imu brought to the living world. Or maybe they are aliens.

Edit: Actually, I found the tweet, it was not from the official account, but from EMUNOPLA about Oda's comment after Chapter 1092:
Author Eiichiro Oda's comment after Chapter 1092:
“I'm off to Los Angeles! I'm so happy to be able to expand my relationship with NETFLIX and Tomorrow Studios!”
I don't think that guy's translations should be trusted, certainly not over viz:
There is nothing wrong with Sanji letting Zoro handle Lucci.
Visually I have no issues with the opening, very nice tribute to the arc. The song however is super forgettable, nowhere near as good as the other wano openings. I wonder if there wil ever be an opening song as good as kokoro no chizu again for example.
I love the content of the chapter, but Oda's crammed double page layout really diminishes the impact of Koby's big attack for me (and lots of other scenes over the last 7-8 years or so). Also I can't help but be quite disappointed that the eye surgery has made zero difference to Oda's artwork. If it turns out this chapter was done before the surgery then great, but I doubt it and I'm not getting my hopes up. The color spread is great though.
Garp should be fine. Blackbeard wanted to use Koby as a bargaining chip, now they have Garp instead who is much more valuable, no need to kill him(yet). Also a major character like him surely would get a proper send-off like Whitebeard. I wonder how Luffy will react and if this will be the trigger for his next confrontation with Teach.

On mangaplus it says now that the chapter comes out on sunday july 16 instead monday like it did before. As far as I know the next jump issue is still supposed to come out on tuesday in japan so it's probably just a mistake but still keep an eye out on it if you only follow the official release.
So it's actually not a mistake and the digital issue will indeed be published a day earlier than the physcial one for whatever reason.

In addition one of the 19 weapons is a japanese sword. The confusing thing is why the surname is Ethan-Baron instead of something more japanese.
I love the cover! Maybe he'll just depict the Vegapunks on a color spread instead.
The line about Garling has been updated on the SJ app:
Stephen left some notes for the others.
He said it's simply a coin toss for now between flame and frame, depending on whether it's meant to be sci-fi(mothership, mainframe, futuristic) or mythological.
He also wants to change Garling from simply being the ruler of God Valley to ruler/champion "who distinguished himself at God Valley."
I've just gone through some parts of Oda's conversation with Gosho Aoyama again and for some reason I completely forgot that he mentions there as well that the series will end once the One Piece is found.
With the sbs of volume 97 this was the second time that he says this.
Since this topic comes up regularly and the majority of the fandom believes it's certain that the huge war will only happen after the treasure is found, I think it might be interesting to bring this up again.

Also where exactly are they? It looks like a balcony and has a big number 2 on it, but it's clearly away from the action going on.
Lucci and Vivi are on these stairs:
@Robby
We knew that since last summer due to the bonus pages Oda drew for Film Red:
Shanks is 20 years old here, which means he fought Blackbeard at some point between 13-19 years ago.
Another great chapter. The whining about the breaks and staying away from Egghead for a handfull of chapters is kind of pathetic ngl.
I still think Luffy will be the one with the eypatch, but if not and it's a new character, then the man with the burn scar seems like a prime candidate.
Garp and Luffy haven't seen each other since Ace's death. If he'll die, I can't see it happening before they meet again.
Maybe Dorry and Brogy returned to Elbaf due to the emergence of Joyboy/Nika (who is probably an important figure to the giants) and the upcoming giant war(Ragnarök).
@Captain-M said in Volume 105 Predictions/Discussion:
Place your bets on if the series will fall short of or overfill another row on the bottom.
It think it will most likely be more since that requires 'just' 150 more chapters. Even though I believe the conflicts in the story will escalate massively this year, I doubt that's enough for Oda to finish it.
Some of Bonney's facial expressions in this chapter are so good.

I'm pretty sure Greg meant to say Issho(Fujitora) instead of Izo.
@Greg said in Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !:
Oda's art becoming more and more scribbly.
This is also my biggest criticism of the series by far and it really frustrates me that the manga isn't on more breaks when it's very obviously been needed for many years now, especially now that we're approaching the most ambitious part of the story.
I wish One Piece was on a bi-weekly schedule or something close to that. ~25 chapters a year would still be a really solid amount for a series that's been running this long (hunter x hunter or even detective conan fans would kill for this many chapters a year). His art would surely improve and he gets more free time.

@Tarek Hmmm. But Smoker's Japanese speech style is far from being polite even when talking with Fujitora and Aokiji...
Yeah that speaks against it, but out of all the options i've seen people bring up so far, Smoker still seems the most likely candidate to me.
The fact he hasn't been shown at G-14 with Tashigi already seemed suspicious and Edison's comment implies it's someone who is currently not an enemy of the government.
I think the next destination is Pirate Island and that's where the Battle Royal will take place.
Going from Egghead straight to the moon like Greg suggested some time ago would also be great.
@Kdom He used Gear 3 against Police Kuma, but yeah we'll most likely not see Gear 4 again.
Oda's comment:
Vegapunk can probably read the ancient language and knows the name of the kingdom.
@cavendishsama said in Chapter 1066: The Will of Ohara:
What I'm more curious about is Saul's connection to Elbaf, since he previously made it seem like he wasn't from there.
I think the main reason he went to Elbaf is simply because it's the best place to hide from the government. It's the most powerful nation in the world and he would stick out too much in other places.
I don't believe anymore that that the last titanic captain is someone yet to be revealed, it seems like it really was Kuzan all along. Also I don't think he's part of Sword,
@Deicide Yeah that's probably it. He successfully implemented that technology on Egghead.
Looks to me like Egghead might not be a cold place after all, only the surrounding area. Maybe these thick clouds were created by Vegapunk.
Great thread, thanks for sharing these Shift and Redon.
The chapter about Kawamatsu and Onimaru was one of the best of the arc. Them not being strawhats doesn't make it wasteful.
what made him go from "I'm going to be joyboy to I'm going to seek a glorious death".
I think Kaido's conversation with King in chapter 1036 showed that he doesn't really care whether he is Joyboy or not because he believes he'll change the world regardless.
!
!
The way Shirohige phrases it.. uh..yeah no.
People always say that but I think Whitebeard's words, at least in english, are just vague enough that you can also interpret it as finding the One Piece will lead to the climax of this war.
Yeah I also believe the great war has either already started or will start with Kaido's defeat. Oda's comment from volume 97 supports this as well I think:
Shanks has never been called 'strongest man in the world'.
I wouldn't argue that he's a pushover on any day. But all signs point to his greatest strength being that of his united crew.
I agree that his crew is probably his greatest strength, but the fact that he is grouped together with people who were capable of beating Kaido implies to me that Kaido thinks Shanks could too, or that it's at least a possibility.
Kaido has platinum'd 'strength' and he wants to delete the world now. He's the strongest being and he lost the stronges 'man' who had the greatest chance of taking him out and leaving his name in legend.
What about Shanks? Kaido puts him on a pedestal with Oden, Whitebeard, Roger and Xebec which shows how highly he thinks of his strength and I don't think he has defeated him. I really want to know more about their encounter two years ago.
Turning the page and seeing GIANT LUFFY descend from the clouds was amazing, incredible panel. I'm in love with Gear 5.
Also the Jump cover is one of Oda's best.
Greg, how would you translate what Blackbeard says here about the darkness fruit?
I've seen "most dangerous", "most wicked" and "most powerful".
Nothing about strength or danger in there.
It's the most wicked/vile.
Thank you.
