Which I'm sure is at the front of Oda's planning for the war.

RE: Shichibukai strength
Mihawk is the World's Strongest Swordsman. Any attack from him is considered the Worlds Strongest's Sword Slash. Since the World's Strongest is delivering the sword slash. It doesn't mean its the strongest slash he has.
This.

RE: Shichibukai strength
I read the dialogue box as belonging to a marine or some such sideline person. In that case, even in reading the Japanese, the comment could be be referring to the fact that Mihawk is regarded as the world's strongest swordsman, and associating the sword attack with his reputation. I really don't care because the whole thing is so overblown, I just want to see a few more scenes in the war of the Shichibukai interacting and talking to each other, I like seeing what they think about each other.

@GolD.:
Well I can't believe what I can't read. lol. U can only believe what U know. And I knew every translation except the one in the original raw manga.
Actually I'm 18 but I wouldn't B surprised if U were 11. Greatest dosen't equal strongest. And I don't think U know what trolling is as I haven't trolled at all yet(And I don't plan 2). And though that is very unlikely its not out of Oda's range. lol. And of course their will B a better enemy 4Zoro once Mihawk is defeated. But not a better swordsman.
=DThis dosen't concern me but…. I think its probably cuz U don't seem trust worthy. I think its Ur pic. It just makes ppl not wanna believe Ur word 4some reason.
=DEvolution just hit a brick wall very hard and very fast.

Anyone thinks that Thatch is not dead and Blackbeard made it look like he died, maybe it was part of his plan.
That would be a great plan if BB was in a special ed class.

RE: Akainu/Sakazuki Discussion
Ando looks the part, but I'm just going to go with Bunta because of his speech pattern and looks. Although I've admittedly not see an Ando movie.
As for Akainu's devil fruit, I've given up speculating at this point. Hopefully those giant tidal waves get the admirals off their asses, though.

RE: Chapter 552 "Ace and Whitebeard" Discussion
haha, just noticed: all stupid kids please say BB is talking about HAKI again!! please, oh please, nuts-os!
I know this is late and you're just making an obligatory Haki joke, but he actually uses a different word for ambition, thankfully.
Really nice chapter, great of Oda to try and make us feel for Whitebeard/Ace when their lives are at stake.

RE: Chapter 552 "Ace and Whitebeard" Discussion
Nah it's cool. For the record I never really knew about the Admiral "based-on-actor" thing going around until very recently, and even so I've only really seen it in terms of physical resemblance so I'm not sure how deep it's supposed to go. It's just that in the one blurb Akainu has in this chapter, he delivers his line much in the same Kansai/Hiroshima yakuza accent way that someone like Bunta Sugawara does in the Yakuza Papers film series. I could be totally wrong, but it's just the way I read it and understood it.
-
RE: Chapter 552 "Ace and Whitebeard" Discussion
Not a whole lot of people care and it's been mentioned before, but I can tell you that based off of the Japanese he uses, Akainu is most likely based off of Bunta Sugawara.
-
RE: Akainu/Sakazuki Discussion
As creative as Oda is, manga, like any other artistic medium, is bound to have overlaps and similarities. I'm not going to offer any speculation on his fruit, but rose thorn impalement sounds just fine. Personally, I'd like it to have nothing to do with the color red just so we can all feel stupid.

RE: Chapter 550 "Marine Headquarters" Discussion
…and Moria essentially retreated into seclusion trying to build an army of minions that could do things for him. I don't want this to turn into the Shichibukai thread redux, but the point is that they all have limits and strengths, and you have to assume that even the ones that appear broken, like Kuma, do as well. I'm not making a case for who's weakest or strongest, because I think it's sort of a moot point by now. I'm starting to wonder how Oda will portray the war...as cool as it would be the see all the Shichibukai/admirals/WB crew in a huge melee of randomly matched battles, I keep thinking Oda has other plans. We'll see though, I think I'd be fine with just about anything.
-
RE: Chapter 550 "Marine Headquarters" Discussion
@Kairouseki:
Is Rouge's name pronounced like a thief or pirate, or is it pronounced like the French word for red? And this chapter was awesome. I liked seeing the reactions to Ace's execution form all 4 of the seas and the Grand Line. I want to see more of Akainu, Mihawk ,and Doflamingo. Hopefully this war will be totally epic, and knowing Oda it will.
It's pronounced like the French word.
-
RE: Chapter 550 "Marine Headquarters" Discussion
Pleased with the chapter…it seemed like the initial reaction to the spoiler would be "oh man what a tired/useless plot twist"...but I felt that it was presented maturely, and given how Oda has been able to remain consistent in making small details/revelations matter some 100 chapters later or whatever, I think this is going to set up something big. But please, can we see Kaidou yet?

Great Crocodile costume. Thought it was funny that everyone was wanting you to jump in the Alabasta picture, though.
Thanks! Yeah, I wasn't exactly sure if I was supposed to or not.

RE: Chapter 548 "Thank you" Discussion
We're not even sure what his scheme is–it hasn't been revealed in full detail, and although it doesn't look that way right now, it's not impossible that he shows up at the war and confronts WB in some aspect. I mean, he knew that once his plan was put into motion, the strongest motherfucker in the world was going to come after him...even if it involves some kind of trap that's pretty bold--and he seems a lot smarter than he lets on.
-
RE: Chapter 548 "Thank you" Discussion
I'm really hoping WB gets killed off. And I don't say that out of fanboyism or dislike of his character at all, I just think it's the best turn for the story, even if it's somewhat predictable. I like the passing of the the torch idea, I like the idea of Fishman Island being thrown into chaos and Luffy sorting it out, all that crap we talk about. It just seems right to me, because thus far, most of Whitebeard's character/reputation has been developed through rumors, history, talk and whatnot. We haven't dealt with him personally in the story a lot and something tells me Oda would feel better killing a character like that, because his character can still exist in rumors, history, and talk. Of course, we're going to deal with him a lot more from now on, so there's that to consider too.
-
RE: Chapter 548 "Thank you" Discussion
Yeah, but he didn't do it with seastone cuffs on.
And yeah, it's mostly because he looks cool with it.
-
RE: Chapter 548 "Thank you" Discussion
If it was attached… Im sure it can be detached... unless he was born with it... which is unlikely though:ermm:
Anyways....... This chapter kinda reminds me of this chapter... http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/215/18/
Well, I always figured he lost his hand before becoming a logia. Whether he can form a new one out of sand on a wound suffered before eating a devil fruit hasn't been addressed, but I doubt it. You have to assume that it can't be removed easily.
And uh yeah, that's the point.

RE: Chapter 546 "Fishman Pirate Captain, the Shichibukai Jinbei" Discussion
I've always thought that Oda has that intent in giving him his clothing, it certainly looked like a Jinbei to me (I own a few). Although it's been covered in blood a lot so it's been hard to tell at points, but I'd say he's wearing a Jinbei.

RE: Chapter 545: "To The Outside World Where The Sun Shines"
Eh, I think he is as creative as he can be (until more is shown) given his devil fruit. He doesn't have a logia or a particularly wacky paramecia, so I don't know how much creativity there is to expect. Using his fingers as a net and making himself fatter sometimes seems to be the extent of things. I thought his fight with Crocodile was him peaking in a sense, because Croc kept mentioning that the only way to survive in the seas was to creatively use/master your devil fruit, and so Luffy creates Storm, which has a couple of steps and a little bit of thought process behind it–including using blood.
But I agree that he is primarily a punch this, kick that fighter. You have to remember he's not the brightest dude in the world.
I also think it'd be interesting if Magellan wasn't actually beaten, but maybe immobilized by some special circumstance.
-
RE: Chapter 545: "To The Outside World Where The Sun Shines"
Yeah, the fanboy in me would explode if Croc/Mr.1 stopped Magellan. I have a feeling it will be something else, but hopefully it's something more creative than Luffy throwing rocks or something.
Although never underestimate a good rock to the head.

RE: General Blackbeard Thread
@Vongola_Boss_XI:
In addition to all of this, the big fight on Raftel for the title of Pirate King should really be more of a rival / antithesis to Luffy. Blackbeard, on the other hand, is the antithesis to Whitebeard, thus I don't really see him as a suitable final rival for the title of Pirate King. I mean, no matter what, I seriously doubt that Raftel will be the final arc….the final arc will most likely be taking down the World Government itself....so I would assume either the Gorousei or the top fighters the World Governmnet has will be the real final opponents / villains of the entire series.
Really? I agree that his focus so far seems to be replacing Whitebeard, but all the dramatic moments, coupled with his remarkable similarity to Luffy (with a dark twist, of course) seems to indicate that he will eventually be Luffy's biggest rival. I'm not saying that it will play out that way, as I agree that a fight with the World Government will need to be resolved toward the end, but I could definitely see Blackbeard taking part in that as well.

RE: Chapter 545: "To The Outside World Where The Sun Shines"
I just want to see Kaidou soon. Just a quick cut to him and Shanks, I have to see what this dude looks like in full.
-
RE: Chapter 545: "To The Outside World Where The Sun Shines"
You know with Jinbei being all nice and all, and Luffy being all cool with him, I'm starting to think Fishmen Island won't be a huge arc. We'll an arc without a major villian. Plus, we gotta remember the Fishmen and Merman are scared of humans. So does anyone else think something rememberable will happen rather some big all out fight that most people are expecting?
I forget the specifics, but after it was revealed that Whitebeard is regarded as someone who had brought order to Fishman Island and whatnot, people have proposed the idea that Whitebeard will get taken out in the war, Fishman Island will become chaotic, and then Luffy will sort it out and be regarded as a hero there, strengthening his case as the man on his way to becoming the Pirate King.
-
RE: Chapter 545: "To The Outside World Where The Sun Shines"
Crocodile's eventual betraying of the makeshift crew (going to happen, but being overblown in some regards) doesn't seem likely to happen until he gets anywhere near WB from what I see. So I'm not exactly putting much thought into it at the moment.
To me the chapter wasn't so boring, but more of a setup for the next, in which I think big things will happen. Hopefully we either get to see a full-on fight or a big surprise at the entrance of ID next time. Maybe even what BB/Shiryuu are up too.

RE: Shichibukai strength
One Piece is about pirates who eat mystical fruits that make their bodies do wacky things. Normal repercussions of bodily harm don't always apply.
As for how stamina and endurance would help…umm...by letting you endure that?
Despite the explanation we were given, I don't think a full understanding of Blackbeard's fruit has been reached. "The power of the devil" or whatever he calls it, is extremely vague. He could mean that it's power evil in nature, or he could be alluding to the super-human strength and endurance a lot of us suspect him of possessing.

RE: Chapter 544 "Even the lid for the cauldron of hell will open" Discussion
What was with Croc being surprised about Luffy bleeding? If I recall correctly, isn't Luffy's blood what cause Croc to lose to him?
Not so sure…maybe it was just the kind of hit that he took.
-
RE: Chapter 544 "Even the lid for the cauldron of hell will open" Discussion
I'm not going to get into the argument about BB's level of strength, because neither side wants to budge (I think he's very powerful, but then you have to realize that One Piece doesn't necessarily operate on a traditional organization of strength–but that's not the point of the post) but I think the reasoning for a lot of people suggesting that Black Beard will be something more than a run of the mill arc boss are the strong parallels between him and Luffy. You can get into arguments about strength and fat if you want, but a lot of it has to do with just...a pretty strong feeling. I know that doesn't amount to much of an argument on an internet forum about manga, but it's pretty much what Luffy/BB are all about. Either way I loved this chapter, just the fact that Croc and BB talked to each other had me excited.

Typically you go to a manga kissa and read them rather than buy the tankoubon, unless you happen to be collecting or just love the series. I've been to libraries with manga though.
-
RE: Chapter 540: "Level 6: Infinite Hell" Discussion
My question to you guys: Do you see this team getting to Marine headquarters and the site of the war, and then each member having their own individual battles ala a typical arc, or functioning more as a way of getting Luffy there? Obviously it could be a mix of the two, but just wondering what seems more plausible.
-
RE: Shichibukai strength
No, no, I totally give Croc props for staging that whole incident. I am just saying it was fairly circumstantial due to the terrain, so it wasn't an option in the final fight. And even if it were, Luffy did a fine job of dodging everything Croc had the entire 3rd fight, and wasn't fat, full of water, or concerned about falling from a high place. I am just countering the idea that Luffy was "lucky" in round 3.
Oh well I agree with that. I don't think Luffy got lucky or anything like that. I think Crocodile was strong enough to beat Luffy twice, but in the end Crocodile keeps mocking him for not using his powers in a variety of ways, or knowing their full extent. Then once Luffy gets a grip on that, he "surpasses" Croc, as he says.
-
RE: Shichibukai strength
Crocodile's right hand is no-holds-barred instant KO if he catches you with it. That makes his hand a bit "broken" in the sense that all he has to do is touch you and it's game over. That is what most would refer to as cheap, no? I mean we accept it as part of Croc, but it is cheap. He touches Whitebeard with that hand and Whitebeard is dead. Are you going to say he is stronger than Whitebeard because of that hand? No. Circumstantial. Had he not been 10 stories high up and had Luffy not been full of water, Luffy would not be concerned about falling and/or would have just jumped around and continued dodging. Unfortunately for Luffy, they were and he was, and therefore Crocodile had a circumstantial chance to grab Luffy with his broken and cheap hand. Given this information, Luffy had a complete victory in round 3 since Luffy showed he would could hammer Croc and keep clear of the hands.
I understand your point, but still don't understand how anyone can look past the fact that Crocodiled caused the circumstances in which he was able to grab ahold of Luffy.
-
RE: Shichibukai strength
But in the second fight, I don't know if you can truly say it was Crocodile getting a "Cheap and circumstantial" win or whatever. It's akin to saying "Well, it's cheap because he's strong, and so when he hits someone, it's strong, and that's cheap". Obviously I'm not accusing anyone of saying something so immature, but think about it–sure, Luffy wails on him the whole fight, and Croc gets him once--but that's precisely the point--Luffy goes off on the guy for a majority of the fight, Crocodile gets a hold of him once, and it's over. That's part of the fight, I don't think it requires further qualifying.
