Alternate Theory: Smoker gets to Vice Admiral first, then for some two or even all three admirals get taken out by someone (in this case it needn't be just straw hats). That would clear the way for not just Smoker, but maybe even Koby and Helmeppo to get into the rank. Koby had stated he wished to be a Marine admiral so, if Luffy can get to pirate king, we can safely assume Koby can get to full admiral.

Yes, I had also considered that possibility, but then again, we also don't know the age of the other 2 admirals (although, you're probably right, and they're probably in their prime)

Yes, but, again, he's probably been in the Marines for a while. He's like 60 or 70 (or knowing the monkey family, maybe even 80) and he can still punch cannon balls. Imagine how strong he was in his prime.

Well no, that's true, but if there was a way to get over the grand line the other way, you'd think that the new world would be more accessible, considering the marines "sea-stone-on-the-bottom-of-ships" trick
