Well, finally last night caught up with the anime, was saving the cooking fest arc to watch it in one go, and needed a day to get my ideas about it together.
It's a shame to see what Toei did to Toriko. I started watching the anime first after the collab episodes with One Piece, and then started reading the manga. Once I started reading the manga there was in my opinion a huge difference as how the series is portrayed. Toriko just doesn't work as a kiddy show, and the censorship really hurts the overall feel of it.
Although the animation of Toriko was pretty good for a long running series (especially the fights), it's noticable that they seemed to stop caring after Meteor Garlic arc.
The cooking fest was imo OK, the fights were ok, especially the Ultimate Routine episode and Sani vs Tommy, but imo it makes no sense why they changed the Toriko vs Star fight like this. It seems they are trying to rush the anime to an end, but still they're wasting time with Toriko & Star vs Joa, and I dont really like the way it changes the plot.
All in all I think Toei messed up with Toriko, and now they're paying the price for it. With the toned down censorship most of the fights loose their oompf effect, and they didn't seem to grasp Shima's style enough to portray it as well as I'd hope. Atleast I still hold the manga in a high value, and maybe if Toriko re-airs one day we'll get an anime more worthy of it's original counterpart.
