RE: DC TV Series Thread - Crossovers where heroes SING!
Arrow: CAN IT REALLY HAPPEN? I would love the writers for having the balls to actually go through with it.
still to early, 3 months too early.

RE: Gravity Falls
just caught up, This shows near perfect, Dippers one of the most relatable leads I've seen in a show, animated or not.
i just really wished i had found it a couple months later and missed this final wait, (for those who have watched from the start and endured the full brunt of disney scheduling, i feel for you). -
RE: DC TV Series Thread - Crossovers where heroes SING!
! That was a very 1 sided ass whooping like Bane vs Bats, or an example closer to home, Ollie vs Ra's part 1 when he "died"
! I still think Zoom maybe Barry Allen from Earth-2Hes to big to be barry, both in hight and build, my pick is earth 2 Eddie Thorne.

Which is why I said I wouldn't have mind him staying in jail before Barry went and made a deal with him.
That he made a deal with Barry and respected his part.
Its okay to break deals with people who killed your mum, and would likely go on to repeat there actions.Besides who is Barry to grant him clemency, he wasn't the only wronged party.

RE: BBC Sherlock
Highlight of the trailer is easily Martin Freeman's magnificent mustache. Lowlight is probably the Inception music.
Agreed, regardless of the quality of the rest of the production, all will be well with the glory that is the Freemanstache.

RE: Animation Fall 2015
man, new lupin and one punch man, I had forgotten anime could be this fun.

RE: Non-Disney animation thread
Consider that it's made by the Robot Chicken crew. I can't judge it until it comes out.
I know. But it's rare that you ever get an animated film aimed at adults in a once and a two decades later.
Theres a large difference between an animated movie for adults, and one thats only suitable for adults. this look like a movie for 16 year olds to me.

RE: Game of Thrones (tv show thread)
Saw a woman watching Game of Thrones on my flight home today. That's in poor taste, since you never know when a pair of breasts is going to wander on screen.
She was lucky and avoided accidentally scarring any children. The plane landed just before the Hound had to eat every fucking chicken in that inn.

The violence point is fair enough, as far as its inappropriate, i wouldn't say scarring, but are you Implying that seeing naked breasts will scar a child? or negatively effect them in anyway? to me a prudish anxiety of children seeing nudity, simply serves to further sexualise the female body.

RE: Doctor Who
This was a bit of an odd episode, I enjoyed most of it, but there was this odd lack of tension for me.
-
RE: Pixar movies
I personally found Brave to be incredibly bland, in practically every aspect out side the visuals. Where as Wreck-it-Ralph, while not profoundly deep, was a fun ride from beginning to end.

RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
What is the Green Goblin supposed to be like? He seems like such a cartoony villain I don't understand why they treat him like he's so integral to the Spiderman franchise. Granted Spidey doesn't have the best line-up of villains for bad guys and pg-13 and I get that friend turned evil is pretty easy as a plot but why that kind of evil?
Imo, Spider-man has one of the best villain line ups in the marvel universe, And Goby is integral to spiderman, It was Norman Osborns spider that bit peter. It varies from writer to writer, but the comics tend to do a better job of making him come across as insane and threatening, sure he's a bit cartoony, but whats a Spider-man villain without a gimmick that allows the web head take easy shots.

L was the best. Strange how the movie with him as the main character sucked though.
I really enjoyed L saves the world actually, couldn't tell you why though.

Yeah Probably best to apply the same rules as in the Game Of Thrones thread, Take the discussion relating to the original, to the thread for the original. Its saves the risk of potentially spoiling someone, and saves the hassle of writing the word spoiler twice.

RE: Mob Psycho Universe - Thread Title Season 2
lol after having that debate about art, we get a chapter where a little awesome murta art work would have done wonders to make us feel less overwhelmed by the amount of new characters we have to remember who look so similar and not as underwhelmed by the entire group organization being introduced instantly with such bland designs that it's hard to figure out who will be important and who won't be and who's actually intresting
basically where as the art work usually works, didn't feel it helped this chapter, at least not if a lot of these characters that had actual dialogue will be of some importance and not just fodder
murta's art could have given us better rugged detail on the gun for hire guy, and made him look more like a cool stoic badass I think he was intended to be, made the crazy guy who talks about killing people a lot more sinister, and deadly, and possibly scary, given any of scars chief branch members a feeling of identity etc.
I disagree, i feel Ones art worked as well in this chapter, as it has in any other. Sure an artist like Murata could make characters appear more badass, sinister ect. He could have made the art more of a spectacle, but in some ways i think that defeats the point, as much as i love Muratas art, (his sense of motion, dynamics, layout and use of detail specifically. I've never really been a fan of how he draws people, not that i would necessarily fault it, its just to generic anime for me) Sometimes reading one punch man, i feel like im reading a flip book of impressive art, rather than a structured narrative.
Though that being said, Im sure Murata has the sense to appropriately apply spectacle at the appropriate level for the project he's working on. So if he did redraw Mob, i doubt it would be the visual feast mob is, which probably makes it less likely to happen.

RE: Vagabond
actually it looks a little of to me, small things like proportions. musashi seems to have a shorter nose in some panels.

RE: Toriko II: Ichiryuu's Slimy Insides!!
power level discussions are always fun, and never pointless, tedious and likely biased
-
RE: Toriko II: Ichiryuu's Slimy Insides!!
Straight forward? Yes
Bland? NoI feel the characters are too overly defined by superficial attributes, there is little depth to the characters, this works with some, not with others, personally prefer more depth, but then i accepted this aspect of toriko from the get go, and enjoy other attributes of the series
-
RE: Toriko II: Ichiryuu's Slimy Insides!!
i personally dont think the pacing the flaw, its the bland characters and non sensical plot lines, but these aren't necessarily weakness in the manga, bland straight forward characters are easier to relate to for younger kids, early teens, and the nonsensical stuff, well its a fun ride if your in it for that, its about the frame you view media in, its a contextual art form, analytical understanding seems like a much more useful way to spend ones time, rather than just griping over flaws, analyse them and notice patterns and trends in story telling. 420 peace
-
RE: Toriko II: Ichiryuu's Slimy Insides!!
I think sometimes people need to remember this is a children's comic were talking about, the same go for one piece, perceived flaws are usually just you as an adult not gelling the content, I'm sure kids love the absurdity and fast pace of toriko.

RE: Toriko II: Ichiryuu's Slimy Insides!!
IT'S TIME FOR ANOTHER EPISODE OF TORIKO MATH TIME!
Shima has revealed the circumference of the Toriko world! Let's see how my earlier estimations match up!
In a previous post I had calculated/estimated that the surface area of the Toriko world was 4 billion km^2. This gives a circumference of ~110,000 km. It turns out I was off by a factor of 2 because Shima has revealed this week that the planet has a circumference of 220,000 km! This means that Toriko world has 30 times the surface area of the Earth! Since the Gourmet World is 70% of the area (according to Shima) the human world alone in Toriko has 9 times the surface area of our planet! This also means that the Toriko world has half the mass of Jupiter and a surface gravity of ~54 m/s^2**. If you fell even for a single second you would be moving at 120 mph or about 200km/hr and you would weight 6 times as much**.Finally this means that the escape velocity for the Toriko world is 62 km/s, which seems quite attainable given what we've seen in the series so far.
Let's check Shima's usually accurate calculations:
He says the planet is 220,000km in circumference and that something moving at about 340 m/s (mach 1) will circumnavigate the planet in about a week. An object moving that fast will travel ~205,000km, so he's totally right! The actual physics of something skipping for that long and not slowing down is a little ridiculous but not totally impossible given a huge amount of angular momentum and kicking backwards parts of the mountain, so we'll say that's OK.The mountain the Monkey King throws seems to be a right circular cone with ~45 degree angle so I can estimate from the 1500m height that it has a volume of 8.8x10^8 m^3. Assuming it's density is about that of granite then it's mass is 2.4*10^12 kilograms which is pretty close to the mass of

Every single fish in the world![/hide]Edit: stay tuned for more
personally, i enjoyed reading this more than i enjoyed the actuallchapter

RE: Doctor Who
from best to worst
Flatline
Mummy on the Orient Express
Listen
Dark Water/Death in Heaven
Into the Dalek
Deep Breath
The Caretaker
Robot of Sherwood
Time Heist
In the Forest of the Night
Kill the Moonthough I've only seen the last 3, and Robot of Sherwood once each, and I've changed my mind on a second viewing a couple of times already this season, for example i like caretaker allot more on a second viewing, and Time Heist fell apart on a second viewing.

RE: Entropy, a comic.
The helmets are symbolic thing, their identity as an astronaut, is so engrained in who they are that it never really leaves them, its a visual metaphor. This also feeds into Rosalie's personal character development, notice that she isn't wearing the helmet when she's a child, before she identifies as an astronaut, and at the end, she removes the helmet.
All the inking as well as some extra stuff like the smoke and cigarettes, were drawn manually with a Wacom.
thanks for the feedback guys.

Entropy, a comic.
So, Ive spent pretty much all of the last 8 months or so working on a comic for my uni major work, and after countless hours here's the result. http://benjamin-comics.tumblr.com/
The comic blends 3dcgi with 2d digital painting. All the 3d stuff (modelling, texturing, lighting etc.) was done in maya, the inking, panels, dialogue and everything else was done in photoshop. The comics about space, colonisation, and the humans involved. Any feed back is more than appreciated. -
RE: Toriko II: Ichiryuu's Slimy Insides!!
Has Shima ever drawn a muscly dude with nipples?
holy shit i have never noticed Shima doesn't draw nipples, now its creeping me out.

RE: Toriko II: Ichiryuu's Slimy Insides!!
and why dont you like neo? I think they are awesome
Neo is essentially a collection of kind of cool character designs at this point.

RE: Doctor Who
I Find it funny that the reasons people cite for there dislike of a certain companion. are usually traits common among the companions in new Who. but guys really, the amount of vile that comes out of some of you, calm down its a television show.
-
RE: Doctor Who
I'm still not feeling it.
And I hate that I'm not feeling it.I was in the same boat, and Smith will always be my doctor despite being the 4th i saw, he was my first doctor i watched from start to finish, as it was airing. Anyway, what weirdly helped me start liking the Capaldi episodes more, was watching 11th hour and Deep Breath back to back. I have no good reason why this made me like Capaldis doctor more, but it worked for me, so it might be worth a shot.

RE: Hiatus x Hiatus III: Goodnight, Sweet Princes
I think it speaks to a problem with the manga industry as a whole, mainly the fact that so many manga are one-man shows and not collaborative efforts. There are few other mediums out there that demand both writing and artistic skills from a single individual. Imagine the movie industry if all actors also had to write screenplays, or if video game creative directors needed programming skills.
In most cases, people should be expected to do the one thing they do best and leave the rest to someone else. Let Togashi write, and let Kubo, Kishi or whoever draw. I love Togashi's style, but the art isn't what makes this series special.
this is also in some ways, the magic of manga, and a lot of comic books, it allows a uniform creative direction. though that being said, in allot of cases one side is lacking, and it would be nice to have team working on the project. Of course Tagashi probably would never let someone else draw his manga, the guy doesn't even really like using assistants, and if he were to get some one to draw it, it would have to be someone who could blend well into his established art style, not just some one who happens to be free and can draw well. and kubos a terrible example, every aspect of his art outside colour spreads, from design to layout, is entirely bland and uninteresting,

RE: Hiatus x Hiatus III: Goodnight, Sweet Princes
Can't he just draw in bed goddammit?
Im aware this has been replied to, and more has been said, but honestly, as someones who's spent 12+ hours everyday for the last year working on a comic, and as a human being, i find this comment disgusting, honestly grow up.
-
RE: Hiatus x Hiatus III: Goodnight, Sweet Princes
No one is asking him to be crazy dedicated chained to his desk full of passion all the time like Oda is… we don't even ask that of Oda.
Personally I wish Oda would take a month or so off a year, i worry about the mans health.
-
RE: Toriko II: Ichiryuu's Slimy Insides!!
I think I'm going to drop toriko, i don't know if there has been a drop in quality, or is I've just became disenchanted with shonen battle manga, but reading this last chapter i felt nothing but apathy.

RE: Hiatus x Hiatus III: Goodnight, Sweet Princes
@Purple:
next question: is Leorio a boy or a girl?
Hey, hey, stop that, he/she doesn't have to define there gender identity for you, its a hard time for Leorio, s/he's going through through allot at the moment, give him/her time, and when, or if she/he is ready he/she will share, until then we just need to respect he decisions.

RE: Wilfred
I recently started re-watching the original Australian series, and as much as i love the American show, really for me it has nothing on the original. the American series concentrates a bit to much on the drama and trying to create logic within the scenario, In the original Adam never questions why he sees wilfred in a dog suit, it just concentrates on dark absurdist humour, and is a lot funnier, though its also very Australian, so for non Ausies it might not hit the mark. Has anyone else here seen the original? if so how do you feel the two versions compare?

RE: Doctor Who
There is nothing in those books that can't be recreated on screen.
Because they are not about accurate representation of quantum physics made from the POV of structural functionalist. Books are quite simple, even EDA.
Money is not an issue, because point was that it can be done in satisfying and enjoyable way, and "can't be made on screen" is not an argument against it.With a decent budget and enough effort it can be made, and it would be awesome.
Current DW doesn't have either, but that is entirely different matter.Yes in a perfect world anythings possible, but in real life budget is a huge concern, and hugely limits what you can achieve in a production, particularly when CGI is involved. anything beyond the scale of Day of the Doctor, as far as representation of the war, would be hugely expensive.
The way i see it, the problem is the representation of the time war itself, as in the actual battles, and doing it in a way in which doesn't diminish the perceived scale of such an event. And now you could concentrate on the dialogue and character scenes, that would probably be just as disappointing as an episode that was entirely the battles. I honestly think that for the show its self, what we saw in the time war was the perfect amount, let the novels and various other tie ins tell the story, thats what they excel at. -
RE: Doctor Who
Well, I was satisfied with explanations on Degradations, Time Lord weapons,
! Possibility Engine, Time Lords in a state of constant regeneration because they were erased from reality, De-Mat gun etc.
So
is not true. All it takes a good author to explain abstract things in coherent, but not overly complicated terms. EoW proved it. And there was nothing that can't be recreated on screen. Half of EDA books are abstract but they are infinitely more clever than Silence arc. And there was nothing that couldn't be filmed either, given right creative approach.
Abstract nature of the fictional event is not an excuse to not explore it.
Sure, nothing is stronger than one's imagination, but it's and excuse of lazy writer who likes to invent cool sounding names but doesn't want to develop his ideas. It's like "The White Ship" by Lovecraft, which was basically a list of fictional places he didn't (and never planned to) elaborate on.… so maybe you are right and Moffat shouldn't be allowed anywhere near time war. But that =/= it can't be shown and elaborated on ever.
Doing something of that scale justice in a novel format, is completely different from doing it in a film format. They are entirely different mediums, with entirely different strengths and weaknesses, its incredibly naive to assume that theres nothing that can't be recreated on screen, now I'm not saying it couldn't be done, but on the budget of an english television show, you would be hard pressed to represent the scale of such a war in any extended sense.

RE: Your duration as a One Piece fan
496, Yarukiman mangrove, Its the chapter where they eat takoyaki at Hachis stand/boat, not sure when it was released, pretty sure it was early 2008 though.Due to this thread i decided to reread the chapter, only the second time i have, huge nostalgia trip, Its weird to think I've been reading it weekly for as long as i have, its really just part of my week now.

RE: Hiatus x Hiatus III: Goodnight, Sweet Princes
Wouldn't it be funny if as soon as the voyage began the story would switch to a killua and Gon training and preparing arc. Letting the first months in DC happen offscreen? Maybe even resulting in a rescue Kurapika/Leorio arc.
Vanquish this demon

RE: Hiatus x Hiatus III: Goodnight, Sweet Princes
@Monkey:
I love hating Togashi and certain aspects of Hunter X Hunter, because I fucking adore it otherwise goddamn it. The hate almost makes the love more acute or something.
Like a bit of pain during sex or something. This is so relatable, its almost poetic, thats the Togashi method in action.

RE: RIP, Tommy Ramone
Sad news, I think ill have to listen to some of there stuff tonight.
-
RE: Qualia the Purple
I excited to see where this is heading, ill be slightly disappointed if the Anthropic principle is the thing that solves it, though that is probably due to my dislike of the principle, depending on which view you take on it, it is either to arrogant and places to much importance on humans and there observations, or simply a statement of the obvious, as in, the universe is the way we perceive it to be, because if it wasn't it we wouldn't be hear to perceive it, its basically like saying an orange exists beause it does, though she did accept it acknowledging its flaws as it seemed a potential fruitful path so well see.
Im enjoying the characterisation, Gaku is essentially destroying any value that exists in whats she's trying to save, as is shown when Yukari essentially kills herself, even if her life was saved, any quality of life would be lost. She's also willing to sacrifice and alter lives of others, some of which she supposedly cares about for the sake of her goal. I find it fascinating how convincing the characterisation has been even with the relatively short time frame that it has occurred over. -
RE: Hiatus x Hiatus III: Goodnight, Sweet Princes
Well, that's your opinion mate.
hahaha great post, mate.
I think you'll also find that its whats presented in the manga, Kite was his hero, he motivated Gon to be a Hunter, Gin was really more of a goal than a role model. Kites death might actually have hit Gon harder, than Gins deaths would. -
RE: Hiatus x Hiatus III: Goodnight, Sweet Princes
Lol what if Beyond was a dog biscuit hunter instead of bananas? hmm..
And the bolded text is amusing to me.Ah but cheadles loyalty can't be bought so easily, now maybe if he threw in a tennis ball.
-
RE: Hiatus x Hiatus III: Goodnight, Sweet Princes
my theory for the mole is that Togashi will keep laying subtle hints that its milk tank….. i mean cow, but it will end up being monkey, why monkey you ask? well maybe Beyonds a banana hunter, and has promised monkey all the bananas he can eat, or you know, a hunch or something.
I hope it doesn't end up being Cheadle, that would be stupid, plus she seems to have the loyalty that matches her motif, plus max would be devastated. Snake, eh, a traitorous snake, its a bit of an over done cliche, hell even the bible did it. Cow i also think would be to obvious a pick, since I immediately fell to that conclusion, I'm hoping Togashi will be more subversive than that.
