I freakin knew last chapter that Charloss was going to make a play for Shirahoshi, that asshole. I'm glad he got his head slammed in. Screw that guy, for reals. All we need is his sister to appear and get her own introduction with a mace and things will be 'even' for Bubble arc. Well, for a given version of even.
Whether or not she's actually in the running for a heel-face turn, I expect she'll catch up to them before they get to the Sunny.
Her interactions with Sanji in the aftermath of the "Wedding Massacre" plot falling to pieces certainly seemed to have shaken her quite a bit and so I fully expect Pudding to at the least come seeking some sort of resolution before the arc ends, in whatever form that takes. At the same time, she made it abundantly clear to Luffy, Nami, and Sanji that she is an extremely skilled liar, so I feel they'd need a chance to properly interact with her again before letting her on their ship, if only to convince themselves that she might actually have had a change of heart.
Let's be real - she'd say sorry and give some meat and Luffy'd forgive in a heartbeat. The others, not so much, but hey, Robin won over everyone bar Zoro really fast. It's not impossible for them to do a sudden heel-turn forgive.
I don't think treasure would cut it for Nami this time around though. It'd have to be something super special. Luffy though? Meat. Meat'd do it.
Just because 1 stupid luck thing happened to save them doesn't mean it's ok for it to continue happening. Although its not that big a deal anymore. I just would have preferred they got out of this without luck.
I really wouldn't call it stupid luck. It actually makes complete sense that someone who was interested in the artefact would sneak in when EVERYONE was attending a wedding where it was going to be opened - especially snoop-tastic reporters and government agents undercover who want to know what's in there before shit hits fan from its opening. If they could learn the truth behind it, they can be forewarned but they didn't have a chance until now to get their hands on it. We always knew it was going to explode, and we always knew it was likely going to cause trouble for BM when it did. I mean, sure, the timing was just perfect for an escape, but this is a story where perfect timing makes for action. I mean, c'mon now, perfect timing went into a lot of things from the start - Luffy just-so-happened to get into a barrel before his ship sunk in the first chapter or so of the whole manga, a lightning strike just-so-happened to strike Buggy when he was about to lop Luffy's head clean off, Roger just-so-happened to get out that one phrase about his treasure before he was killed, Ace just-so-happened to get in the way of a magma fist before Luffy died… there's a shit-ton of times where, to amp up the excitement and action of the story, perfect timing occurs. You're just now noticing this? It's not a new thing.
But hey, let's say that it didn't go off... then what? Luffy wasn't going to be able to beat Big Mom, so how were they going to get out of that jam? Death isn't an option at this point in the story, so of course something had been set up way before in order to enable an escape - to give the heroes a chance (just a chance!) to skim through and save the day by the skin of their teeth. Sometimes it takes that one punch covered in your own blood, sometimes it takes getting eaten by a giant sky snake and sometimes it takes that one in a million chance that lightning will strike down from above and hit your enemy for you.
Quite frankly, I'm glad it was set up that way and used. It was never going to kill BM - Luffy's already claimed a battle to beat her at a later date and as a Yonkou she was never going to keel over from a bomb of all things - so of course it was going to be used at a point where it would benefit Luffy and gang. It was their set-up after all. It'd be stupid if it didn't.
I don't know…are we supposed to feel bad for Linlin/BM? 'cause I certainly don't feel that way...
I think we're supposed to feel bad for her, yes, but not as much as understand where she came from and why Caramel plays such a large part in scarring her psyche.
I do feel a little bad at the idea of a kid who just wants to do stuff right but accidentally hurts those around her, especially as it was adults failing her that caused the issue in the first place. Her parents just dumped her instead of trying to stick through and teach her right from wrong, Caramel never properly helped her realise that her actions, no matter how well-intentioned, had consequences or that she should feel responsible for those consequences, good or bad. None of the adults around her thought to question whether such an odd child should be made to take part in their ceremony, especially when they knew that she had issues with requiring a large amount of food. Also, someone should have noticed how oddly she reacted to the Semla - the panels that show her eating and reacting to it definitely set off more than a few warning bells. That kind of severe reaction should have exempted her from fasting for so long, especially seeing as her biology wasn't really understood. That'd be like giving a kid peanut butter for the first time, seeing them dive into the whole jar with just their fingers, and then saying "You know what? I don't see an issue here. Oh, by the way, you're not eating for the next x days or so now."
Frankly, she'd been let down quite a bit and the adults should have known better.
I don't feel sorry for her adult form, but I do feel sad for the abandoned girl who was never taught better and whose symptoms were ignored completely.
How much do you regulate a 5 year old. She did tell her why what she was fixing didn't need fixing.
Got a 5 year old niece. She pulled our cat's tail and got told off for it. She wall pulled aside, scolded and had it explained to her that animals have to be treated gently or they could get seriously injured. Hey, guess what? She now treats the animals gently and they don't get hurt. Hell, they don't run from the room when she comes in any more either. Kids learn if you bother to pull them up on their bad behaviour and actually teach them. They're not stupid.

This was brought forward as soon as the portrait was mentioned, however, with it now being destroyed it does not seem it has a physical connection to Big Mom, just emotional.

I wonder if the photo is something along the lines of a certain painting that was tied to the life of a person in literature? That would be one explanation as to why Big Mum is so extremely protective of it. It's not likely, but just a thought I had. We do know Oda draws inspiration from a lot of different places, Western or otherwise, so it's not impossible for it to be linked in some way to The Portrait of Dorian Grey.

I would say that Law's character arc also sort of ends on a rather weak note, though it may not be as apparent since it's overall one of the better aspects of the arc. But it always bothered me that Law doesn't have a stronger reaction to Doflamingos downfall…he pretty much just looks on stoically. His later conversation with Senghok is nice, but imho it could have been better.
That said, I do agree that the ending for most of the other characters was really well done. Fujitora apologizing on live TV for the actions of the Marines, the formation of the Grand Fleet, and probably most surprising of all, the final scenes with Rebecca and Kyros were great.
It could be that that's not the end of Law's character arc. Not likely, sure, but he's still around and still has an alliance with Luffy, so it's not impossible that he's got more characterisation to come, including an actual emotional fallout-type response to everything. Then again, he seems to hate showing his feelings off around others (every time he interacts with the crew he struggles to pull himself out of the crazy when he realises he's suddenly joining in and showing more of himself. I actually quite liked that about his character XD ). I'm sure we'll see more eventually, though. I hope so, anyway.
I know he has Robin but still…it'd be interesting to see this power in action and how it allows him to read a Poneglyph. So far we've only seen it work in regards to living things like the Sea Kings or Zunisha
I'd rather that never happen. It's just not in Luffy's nature to care about reading and maps and information like that. Even if he could read it, he probably wouldn't understand it - it'd be left in Robin and Nami's hands to figure out the what and where, so it's better that Luffy be his own self instead of a copy/paste of Roger. Not that I mind him awakening the ability of being able to hear things, but he's a different character and person to Roger, he should use that ability in a different way than Roger ever did.
Frankly, I've enjoyed the pacing so far, though I find it a bit faster (kinda wish it'd slow down a tad) I'm still enjoying it. The thing a lot of people reading week-to-week don't realise is that we need chapters like this to round out the story or it feels flat as a whole. Things take time to get done, as well they should, and pieces of the story need telling. I trust Oda to tell the story right, so I'm happy to go at his pace.
Actually, another reason I think that Sanji is doing the "Get out of here!" thing might be to protect Nami. We saw his brothers' reactions to her, and we know they're very much the "I get what I want and women are just playthings" type of assholes. We also noticed Sanji noticing their reactions to her. I'd bet at least part of his wanting them to leave is remembering what happened to the young chef lady earlier.
Alright, I'm just calling it here because it's something that's been in the back of my mind for a while now. That vivre card of Big Mom's is just a cover for Nami's own parentage. I think she's Big Mom's daughter (we don't know her real parents, after all), and her ability with weather is a pretty big hint towards this. I wouldn't put it past Oda to have given her the vivre card in order to make it so that her own connection to Big Mom wasn't revealed during this arc (or at least, until the part it needs to be revealed during) and it would make a lot of sense with how much Luffy has been struggling to have a different way of 'defeating' Big Mom and putting the Germa 66 in their place. Say, if perhaps one of Big Mom's daughters were 'married' (or just connected) to Sanji… and could somehow still be part of Luffy's crew? You know, like, say, how Sanji and Nami are nakama and all~
Just something that's been swilling around my mind for a while now.
That said, I enjoyed the chapter. It actually reminds me more of Usopp leaving than anything else at the moment, though I can see the parallels that people are putting towards Robin. Thing is, this arc has so far drawn in a ton of references from previous arcs. Zou has been a reference to Skypeia in more than a few ways, there's some parallels between Big Mom's powers and Thriller Bark and something that struck me this chapter was how we're being introduced to Numbered Siblings which reminded me of Baroque Works. It's been a big ol' draw from all of the early arcs and frankly, I'm enjoying it a lot. I don't mind if it does go down the whole Robin route, as long as Oda does it well, which we know he is capable of. I trust him to do right by his story.
I don't think the Kidd alliance is under Kudo, but that perhaps Apoo was an inside-man for Kudo the whole time and is pretending to be part of the alliance in order to bring it down from the inside~
Also this chapter~ I know one person who is going to be very, very happy with the contents. ^.^ (A mutual friend of mine who loves the Minks and was quite distraught at the idea of them getting beaten on again.)
I have watched the series, as I already stated. Both of them. I don't see any way it could be a template for One Piece. It's a theory at best, and a wonky one at that.
My money is on either Kuzan or Smoker.

Smoker has be pushing that line with his Marine duties more and more and I feel like a schism is going to happen in the Marines between two factions - one headed by Sakazuki and the other being a more tolerant crowd who don't like the hardline that Saka is spinning. Of course Coby will be on the tolerant side, and hopefully a fair few others that we've met before.
Honestly, Smoker would fit in pretty well as a straight-laced sort, the only issue being not-Kuina who would drive poor Zoro to complete distraction. Then again, another sword fighter for him to hone his skills against in 'friendly' spars.
That said, gimme a mink please. Carrot or Wanda will do. Wanda definitely has the connection with the crew already and her weapons would work well with Nami's skillset - electrified weaponry + lightning strikes = damage galore ho ho ho
I've watched both and they have similarities but I always took that to mean they took inspiration from the source materials. To say One Piece copied a cartoon that is based on an adventure to find hidden treasures (and the aforementioned City of Gold) is just plain silly.
Besides, Oda is pretty damn open about when he is inspired by something. He wouldn't forget to add a major inspiration to his list of 'hey, btw, this inspired me guys, major kudos for that' because he isn't an asshole like that. He's actually a very modest guy and he's given a lot of names out over the years of what has inspired him when writing One Piece. City of Gold? Not one of those.
It's a pretty damn safe bet that there's no cross-over there, so… chill brah. It was an interesting theory, but that's all it is. If there was something more to it all those experts who love both shows would have pointed it out before because they don't miss much at all, and something as big as a connection between the two that indicates major inspiration would have been discovered and hashed out years ago.
They just used some of the same base material to build their stories is all.
So, count down on how long before people start trying to nab Robin's ass? I give it til they nab the second or third piece of the puzzle. Also, gotta keep a watch on Law since he's also after One Piece and to do that he'd need to know how to read the Poneglyphs.
I would personally prefer that Luffy ace this mission. He could use his newly discovered/uncovered gomo-gomo-no-ukiyo-e to make an impression of the poneglyph with his outstretched body.
Keep in mind that he might ace one and screw up the others~ Plenty of opportunity for things to go awry. My bet is on him accidentally nabbing it whilst screwing something else up. Say, an undercover mission. He is a smash-and-grab sorta guy~
Also, I kinda want Luffy to have the set. Imagine the amount of people who would be gunning for them if they had even one of the poneglyphs on board! Let alone all of them. Also, calling it now but I'm betting Luffy will accidentally find a way to break one of them. I know they're supposed to be unbreakable, but I trust Luffy to find a way.
Okay, so we all know the 'Lola is Big Mom's daughter' prediction. What if that's who Sanji is going to marry? And what if Lola is the one who puts the kibosh on the marriage? That would give Luffy and Sanji an out without having Big Mom demanding their heads on a platter, and it'd leave only the Vinsmokes to deal with, which is a lot more manageable a feat (especially since they don't seem to have cared much about Sanji before this political alliance popped up).
It would tie up that pesky loose thread about Lola's mother nicely~
Wow, I got in real early by accident! It sounds like there's a pretty big player batting for Sanji not to be killed, and it ain't Big Mam. I don't think Sanji comes from a Celestial Dragon line (the way they talk about the Vinsmokes, they're powerful but not Celestial Dragon-powerful), but it would have to be someone very high up in the Marines or World Government to scare people into leaving him alive like that. Colour me intrigued!
It's just like Sanji to sacrifice himself for the others (especially Nami), so I'm not surprised that he sent them out like that (Mr Prince thinking fast yet again - leaving behind Ceasar means they're more likely to just let the others go). Gotta give him that - his ability to think quick on his feet is one of his most useful skills. I'm so interested in this arc already!
I called Sanji being wanted because some girl wanted him as her husband (very likely it's more an arranged marriage at birth thing, from the sounds of it, but hey, it's close!) Woo! Hey, Sanji~ Hope she's cute! (She'll either be hideous OR so bitchy and terrible that she breaks him of his starry-eyed forgiveness of girls OR a really nice girl that just doesn't want to marry him and it's all her parents' doing. We all know Sanji will never get the girl.)

Pretty sure that was Buggy, during his time on Gol Rogers crew. There's a split second frame of Rogers smile reflected in the glasses and there's no timestamp on when his arm got cut. Buggy is now a Shichibukai. He also uses cutting implements. That's my theory.
The Sanji thing - I'm thinking a few theories, most of which have him in his usual butt-monkey role (like, say, one of the female CD's wanting to marry him and demanding he be taken in alive, having fallen in love with his horribad posters which do look a little CD-ish. Or mistaken identity of him being a lost heir, again due to the terrible poster images. A friend of mine posed that it might have something to do with being a known associate of Ivankov, thus perhaps they want him to 'dish the dirt' as it were - a pirate being a bit easier to get their hands on than a Revolutionary, in comparison. And of course the usualy theory of him being either the child of a CD or a real prince of some kind.)

I agree I'd place Luffy between Vice Admiral and Admiral, closer to Admiral though. Once he masters gear 4 to the point where he doesn't need to rest plus whatever the new technique Rayleigh taught him is, he's going to be crazy strong.

We know that Sakazuki started a draft and more than likely clamped down on the laziness in the Marines, so more than likely the Marines of 2 years ago are a lot weaker than those of present time. Of course… Fujitora would be the lazy sort... to gamble... All the Admirals are oddballs, though, so...
Sakura never said she'd not kissed him (or more) before, just that the poke in the head was better than a kiss. I don't know where you guys are getting the assumption that they never consumated their marriage - it doesn't say that at all.
This love isn't healthy at all when she can't even remember if he wore glasses. Its still as shallow as when she was crushing on them. Not to mention this ship has the least amount of development with most of the manga's run Sasuke really found her annoying. Also at the climax it was really an asspull move to suddenly have them married with little substance. Sorry, but when you have a screwed up guy like Sasuke you should move on instead of sticking to someone who is not worth it.
I assume she means when he was a kid - before she noticed him. How is she to know if he wore glasses? I'm sure it never came up in conversation between them and she only noticed him because Ino had a crush on him and dragged her into the peer-pressure fanclub. Even then, she wouldn't necessarily know details of his life before she met him without asking and how would that come up in conversation between them when they had no-one to bring the point up about until after Sarada was born?
For example: The only reason I know my mum wore glasses as a kid is because she complained about having to get glasses again. I found that fact out when she was 53. You can live your whole life with a person and not know if they had glasses or not before you met them. It's not shallow to not know this stuff.

I thought for a moment that Sakura was remembering Naruto's and Sasuke's first kiss with each other and giggled about that, I mean, that was a moment for the ages to laugh about. But that hesitation for the kiss thingie… that made me question their realtionship more than this DNA thing did.Naruto's talk-jutsu is as OP as ever. Teenage drama has no chance against the Uzamaki wisedom. xD
Probably because to Sasuke, the head-flick is very important. It was how Itachi showed him he loved him and Sasuke would probably equate that motion with real love, so using it on Sakura would be like the ultimate admission to love from him. She definitely carried it on to Sarada. If this doesn't end with Sasuke giving her a head-flick at some point, I'll be very disappointed.
Different families have ways of expressing their love, after all. It makes a lot of sense if you look in to Sasuke's background as to why this would work as a family expression of love.

Right, and even if it weren't, Luffy isn't the kind to get all sophisticated with his attacks. His way through a problem is solved by punching it. And maybe kicking it or head-butting it. He's a non-complicated kinda guy. Dunno why people expect differently - he's been that way since forever.
I rather enjoyed this chapter. It was nice to see some of the home life of Sarada and Sakura, and I loved the call-back to the head-tap - it's great to see that Sasuke uses it in leiu of showing love, just like Itachi used to. It's sweet. Also, called it for Sakura biding time. Lady is about to kick some serious ass.
You know, I've always liked Sakura's character. She is very strong, physically, which is a flip - Sasuke is strong when it comes to 'powers' and Naruto is strong when it comes to strategy and using his wits, but of the three Sakura is the most physically powerful (and mentally, I'll hazard to say.) It's an interesting flip to show that sometimes just being strong physically doesn't mean you're the strongest. I also didn't mind her character building. Sure I would have liked to see her have more moments like kicking sand-puppet's ass, but frankly, her character works. That said, there are some great fanfics out there that explore her possibilities a lot better, but that's always the case - there's always something that can be improved on.
Anyway, back to the chapter - I do like that Sasuke, for all that he's a terribad father (though apparently there was a reason he couldn't come back?), still has that connection with Sakura. He trusts her to be able to take care of herself and is apparently in the habit of calling her his wife quite a bit. XD He's still a dick but at least there's -something- more to him than that.
And Sarada is just such a cutie! Little Sarada is too cute.
I'm really enjoying this manga and seeing the way it mirrors the start of the original manga, talking about connections, well, it's just great. I'm so, so, so glad they didn't go the Boruto track.
Yeah the simplicity of DNA testing is really impressive that you can do at home paternity tests bought from a regular drug store.
But this is getting stretched out and all probably for hardly any pay off. Sakura must be stronger than these kid clones? They shouldn't be enough to keep her captive.
She's probably buying time to get more information about who this new enemy of her family is and what their weaknesses might be. You know, like a shinobi should be doing in this kind of situation when they don't know their enemy, how strong they are, what skills they know and that back-up is sure to be on its' way.
Frankly, I think Kishi is going with the Adoptive vs Natural parent idea, where at the end it won't matter that Sakura isn't her real mother, Salad will realise that Karin (probably) never loved her at all and that the one person who did (who will very likely throw her life on the line to save her) is her mother.
I'd also like to point out that Sasuke called Sakura his wife - meaning there is a binding attachment there, and he acknowledges is, which is a major step up for him, considering his character in the last series. Good boy, Sasuke! We'll make a decent character of you yet! …maybe.

Really enjoyed this chapter. People pulling together to help others and themselves is one of my favourite things and seeing Violet get up and ready to fight Doffy, righting the wrongs of her past choices was really nice. If she falls Rebecca better buy some time too - because she's got the skills to cause him some trouble. She's been taught to dodge and weave and move and those skills would do well in a battle for buying time. C'mon, Oda, give her a chance at some action instead of being sidelined. Please!
Oh come on, I'd think that so soon afer getting attacked by an enemy Uchiha, Sasuke would sooner expect that the girl is one of them, instead of his daughter who he's been sucessfully neglecting for years.
If only she didn't say "dad", I could have given it a pass.
Well, for all we know, these enemy Uchiha might have played the 'Daddy' game before to try and get him to lower his guard. We don't know all the details of how they've been attacking/trying to get to him yet. (Or why, or who they are and so forth, of course.)
I'm actually quite enjoying this new series. I honestly really like Salad/Sarada as a main and even Chocho is kinda funny. I'm so glad we didn't follow Bolt/Boruta as the protag.

Agreed! It was nice to see Zoro actually defeat a 'big' foe without being completely wrecked by the end of it. It seems every time there's a threat, he gets completely stomped on. I mean, he defeats said threat, yes, but he tends to need to rest up a hell of a lot after the fact (even though he doesn't) so it is good to see that he's not going straight to sickbay - especially since the Doc isn't 'in' at the moment.
Hopefully Luffy will come through without any major wounds (the second-most likely to get wrecked whilst wrecking)… since the back-up doc is currently also out of commission.
Yeah, I think I'm fine with Robin being the only one who got seriously hurt so far - I'm not saying I hate her and want her to get hurt, quite the opposite in fact. I really like her a lot!
It's just nice to see that the girls aren't being all protected from harm. Gotta give that to Oda on the sexism debate - he's willing to mete out damage to the girls as well as the guys. Maybe not as much, but they get it pretty badly too.

The senzu princess doesn't make any sense, though. It's already bad enough that Oda dropped an instant-heal trope in the story, but now on top of this Jola found out (out of where ? Was it written on her bottom ?) that her power allows to restore the friggin' factory ?! Last time she was supposed to heal wounds, not repair stuff. Come on already, this arc is crowded with haxxed DF.
What if the 'Factory' wasn't a what but a whom? As in, the Factory isn't a thing but a person instead? Just a thought.
Man, I hated Senor Pink… before this chapter. I don't know how Oda does it but I cried and have since rescinded my hate of him. I don't love him, per se, but he's redeemed himself as a character worthy of liking at least.
Also, either Oda is gearing up for the whole crew to be made up of tragic backstories, leading up to the most tragic being Doffy's or he's showing how much of an asshole Doffy is by taking advantage of all these broken people, deliberately preying on them in some way, shape or form. It could go either way - a case can be made for Doffy's backstory and interactions with his brother to be seen as completely different and tragic from his point of view and Oda is a good enough writer to pull that shit off, but on the other hand, everything we've see so far points to him being king asshole of the ass-wipe brigade. Then again, it might be a double-blind~ Who knows~ This is Oda we're talking about.
Guys, someone on another site pointed out that she might be making wind with her moth hands - thus messing with his power by making the fluttering unstable and hard to aim. That would make some sense and would work as an attack, too. (Plus, distraction~)
As for Barty joining the crew - I don't think he would, but it'd be interesting if he did as his power would definitely be a boon in protecting the ship from attacks and weather damage (storms shredding sails and the like). His personality would be a good match, too - he'd be a bit like a cross between Sanji and Usopp - doting on the crew and panicking over their getting hurt/being in danger. I could definitely see him doing the ol' cling-together routine with Usopp and Chopper, them grabbing him for protection and thus not hampering those fighting as much. XD
That said, I think it's more likely he and Cavendish will team up in some way - if only because of the foreshadowing and how often they play off each other.
This was a great chapter. I really enjoyed it a lot.
I think Robin's entrance attack might be two-fold - it confuses the aim of the enemy, as he's aiming for Rebecca he'd have to keep changing direction to get to her and avoid the 'moths'; and it obfuscates the field, making it harder for him to see small movements and possible attacks, due to so much movement going on.
There's also hands on the sword blade itself, probably messing with his aim too. What if the 'moths' attach to what they touch and those hands on the blade came from it touching them? Just another thought.
Screw the haters, I loved this chapter. I love the whole interplay between the two forces - how Doffy's side see her as convenient and haven't taught her to live for herself, while a stranger, Sai, is stepping up and seeing that it's wrong, hoping to right those wrongs. He doesn't care about who he marries, but he can't just stand by and watch as someone like Baby is taken advantage of just because she's 'useful' as she is.
That slap was necessary - fuck those who say differently. It woke her up and started the road to recovery. It was the same kind of slap you give a baby who needs to take that first breath before they can be called truly living.
And I really just wanna hug poor Baby. :< Doffy's crew are asshats for not waking her up and making her feel like she's worth more than just being convenient. (I love that they're asshats, though.)

It is very possible that Oda did forget to draw it, especially if it were a last-minute add-on to the character. Then again, it reminds me of one of those heavy metal bats you used as a kid playing sports (albeit, coloured) and a bit like a racoon's tail too. Maybe he's got a Friut centered around Tanuki? I recall there being tales of them being able to affect weight and what-not (leaves being made to weigh a ton or something like that). Might be the case...

Luffy's unwillingness to fight Bellamy is stupid. You took the fate of the entire country upon yourself, you don't get to waste time while insane psychopath tries to kill everyone.
Hillariously, it's the exact thing he called Vivi out in Alabasta.And Machvise is a waste of panel time. Any emotional core of this fight is ruined because we have no field of reference. I don't think him and Hajrudin exchanged a single line of dialogue before this chapter.
Not really. Luffy doesn't care about the country - he cares about his friends. The only reason he called Vivi out for that was because her dream was to save her country and she needed a wake-up call. It was never about what Luffy wanted - he just wanted her to be happy. He didn't save the country for the sake of the country, but because his friend, Vivi, wanted it to be saved and he just ran with it because, hey, if that's what his friends' dream is then sure, why not?
In this case he's dubbed Bellamy a friend. His friends' dream isn't to save the country but to fight for his dream, even if that dream isn't reachable. Luffy will then fight him because that is what Bellamy wants and Luffy? Well, he's got his friends backs. So he'll fight Bellamy.
Luffy is not a hero. At all.
Any heroic deeds attributed to him are ones that should be attributed to his friends instead - because if he weren't friends with them he just wouldn't bother to get involved except when it comes to his personal triggers (someone mistreating their 'friends', someone claiming they'll be Pirate King, promise of food… etc)
That's what makes him a pirate instead of a marine.
Probably part of the reason present!Doflamingo doesn't mess with Tsuru is because she kicked his square arse round in the past. Now would be a good time for her to do so~
This chapter… I was having issue connecting emotionally to Rosi. I like him a lot as a character but for some reason I haven't been able to be all waaaah about his upcoming death.
...that smile at the end did me in. Good God, Oda, whyyyyy? It made me think of all the other smiling deaths we know of and now I'm getting teary-eyed again. Damnit. :<

Uh… You can bet if I were shot and thought I were dying I'd be going 'demonic lord' mode on the bastards doing it. Seriously, especially if they'd strung me out a window and were shooting at my father and younger brother. He's a kid trying to reassert his power - the power he used to have - over a group of people who are terrifying him. He has two choices, cry and take it or shout out to the crow the anger and frustration and fear he's feeling. He probably feels like he has to show a brave face for his brother, show that at least someone still has power. (Because their father ain't doing a great job at protecting them, that's for sure.)
Honestly, it's completely believable to me that a kid who was brought up spoiled and then had everything taken away acts like this. I've seen it in real life - my cousin spoiled until he was 12, then moved in with his financially insecure father and where once a sweet kid was, only anger and frustration. Throw in volatile situations with being bullied at school since he just lost it - punched two of the bullies, bit a third and got suspended for threatening two others.
He's since grown up into a well adjusted adult, but being cornered in a helpless situation, he blew.
Yeah, I'm gonna say that I can see a kid acting exactly like this in this kind of situation.
Maybe he wants to care but can't, so pretends he does the best way he knows how - by faking it.

That said, he did cut off his fathers head that one time… still, we don't know if there were any extenuating reasons for it. I can think of a few reasons he could do so and still be considered not at fault or at least, not a monster (the one that jumped to mind being that his father asked him to do so, in the hopes that his children would be taken back and protected if they presented the head of the 'traitor'. Another being him forced into it to prove that he isn't a 'traitor' like his father. Maybe thinking it's the only way to protect himself and his brother from the shitty situation they were in - I mean, God, he was only ten at the time and he had a younger brother relying on him. Their father tried but he just couldn't protect them so I could see someone pushed to the edge, hoping to get back to the safe place from which they came, hating the man who brought them down and made them worse than animals in the eyes of not only their peers, but also the people they once ruled over, causing the death of his beloved mother... Again, he was only 10 at the time, I could see that kind of situation just pushing him over the edge.)

Rocci being optimistic and dragging a young boy into unknown territory (and it not paying off at all) kinda reminds me of his father. I feel they should have shown a different kind of scene when Rocci said Dofla was evil. Showing post torture Dofla kinda feels like his evilness was a result of torture. I know he was an asshole before but not enough for me to feel like he was not human.
It's actually in interesting contrast where Law considers himself a monster and Roci mentioning his brother is a monster. He almost seems to have realised something when Law says that line about him not being human.
I may just want a brotherly tragedy, though. >:D

Once again about Rocicante. I would actually love to see when he actually joined the marines without DoFla kowing it or did DoFla and him have been seperated for some reasons in the past?
If yes why hasn't DoFla being fishy about the fact that Rocicante suddenly came back to him?
And will Vergo play a role in it. Maybe DoFla sent him out to the marines as well because he hasn't trusted Rocicante…
I'm thinking he was initially Doflamingo's spy in the Marines and Sengoku turned him. Then Doflamingo figured he'd prefer his brother near him for whatever reason and replaced him with Vergo.

Not 'pulled out of the nether'. The fact that the names match up to the story could be coincidental, sure, but Oda hasn't just used Japanese names before. In fact, he's used a lot of names from various places all over the world. Add that White Town looks quite European, Bellamy and Lamy are both French in origin, as is Trafalgar and Waterloo (Water Law~)… well, it's not that big a leap in logic.
Also, Lami is the feminine version of Lamy. They both mean the same thing but there's a male and female version.

Oh, ho ho~ You may ask what the hell I'm talking about. Well, it's not inconceivable to think that the Revolutionary Army may have decided to head into a certain White Town during a period of unrest. Indeed, it's not unthinkable that a certain child trapped in a fiery inferno may have been saved and cured by a certain person with the ability to mess with hormones… and gender. That said child may have lost her memories due to extreme trauma but later feel drawn to the Doflamingo family for some reason (perhaps a certain member of the family...?) is also a possibility.
