Funny, I feel like I've seen this mangaka's work somewhere before… And that pirate symbol... I wonder what it means. Does it even mean anything?

RE: One Piece 703: Waiting Room
Sure, one flaming Sanji is from Chapter 653 - A Hero's Hat.
The other flaming head used in the speech bubble is custom made. I used the love-drunken Sanji from the panel above and added fiery hair.Anyway, glad you guys liked it.
If I ever find a use for that custom fiery head, I know who to thank.
Sanji for cabin boyBut seriously, why the same argument in TWO different threads?

RE: How do you feel about One Piece having a Tournament Arc?
Everything is going just as Mr. Oda planned. He'll first lure us in with a fake tourney arc and hook us into something much more interesting.
So, it'll "technically" be a tournament arc, but this is One Piece. In the meantime, we might as well begin looking for references to DBZ and other classic manga.

RE: One Piece 700 : His Pace
@CCC:
Just thinking about people's birthplaces in the OP world…
It's funny to reconcile the now outdated abject fear that people in the East Blue felt towards the Grand Line ("It's like, the pirate graveyard, dude! If you go to the Grand Line, you're not coming back!") with the idea that there are thriving cities/civilizations there, such as Drum, Alabasta, W7, St. Poplar. I like to imagine a random W7 citizen doing some world-traveling in one of the lesser blues, and having people say "Whoaaaa... you were born in the GRAND LINE? I'm so sorry... what a terrible life you must have lived."Almost brings to mind how my students think that Americans eat cheeseburgers for three meals a day and are unable to leave their homes for fear of being shot by rapping gangstas in the street in broad daylight.
Thanks, you've just made my day.
It was like that for the New World too. So much hype about how crazy it is, and the first thing we're greeted with is a wall of fire out at sea. Then, things started to smooth out after exploring Punk Hazard. So much overactive hype. I'm getting a wave of nostalgia now.
You don't have to take my word for it, but the journey to Raftel may not be through the New World. It's a place surrounded by rumor; who knows if it even still exists.
Edit: As in, if the island known as Raftel still holds the same legacy as what its name implies.

RE: One Piece 700 : His Pace
Really epic chapter. Greatly enjoyed and might give it another read right now :D
Hope you're joking, because if that were true, Luffy's bounty would be at least 600 million or something xD
I don't even know if they've given him a new bounty, I think they sent him the offer immediately and would only have issued a wanted poster if he had turned it down.Ah, but you're forgetting about Buggy's mass influence. To the eyes of the world, Luffy just disappeared for two years after the war.
-
RE: One Piece 700 : His Pace
@No:
Ya know what's realy odd after 700 chapters ? Not knowing the current in-story date/year.
This continues to bother me.
Thankfully, Oda manages to keep consistent with a hidden timeline. There's an obvious reason why he didn't choose a particular year for this world to take place in. Versatility in cultures is one of his greatest assets of world building.

RE: One Piece 700 : His Pace
Hurrah, I got through the entire thread.
@.access:
You know what's funny? The title of a warlord actually fits Buggy.
He may be weak an all, but he has an army of strong pirates (an army that is probably immense by now) ready to fight whoever be on a whim of his. I don't know, but I think a man who can put a powerful army into motion is more fit of being called a Warlord than a man who is insanely powerful and fights alone (like, say, Mihawk) or has only a hand of very powerful men with him (Blackbeard).
What I find funnier is that you've only posted this here. I'd have expected to see a post like this MANY pages back.
@Wolfwoof & Nolus Why. Why would you two bring up these horrible memories of skating around 4ch. Ow my head.

Still doing that translation stuff too. I'm hoping to get through with translations for the Prologue and Chapter 1 some time if I have the time.

RE: One Piece Pirate Recipes, cooking book with cover drawn by Oda
Features include: Luffy's favorite Meat on the Bone, and Potato Paille for early summer days! (Sanji says, "Don't forget the cheese!" and Nami can't stop eating.)
I can only read the content indexes.
"Instant Filling Meals"
"Hearty! Meat Recipes"
"OK for Beginners! Seafood Specials"
"Healthy Veggie Recipes"
"Complete-Satisfaction Meals"
"Easy Desserts"
…Sanji's EYE?Oh, wait, it means his selected favorites. Whew...

RE: Chapter 688: Mocha
@400MillionBelis:
Zoro and Tashigi: RESOLVED
What do you exactly mean with this? If it's the fight they had with Monet, that's done. If it's the fight between them, that's not gonna be resolved any time soon.
If you're going to make a list like this, perhaps a separate thread for it as a reference would be better?
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
@400MillionBelis:
Mocha for nakama.
…
No.
I'm half-serious.
I want serious discussion with this. I have no opinion about it, but go go go!
I mean, she's still a girl. She's fits the idea of "a child" member.
AND SHE DOESN'T HAVE BOOBS (YET)!
Sure, if she's going to be able to turn into Hulk-Mocha. Yeah, yeah, we already have Monster Chopper, but he's a guy. We could have a girl with more strength than even Monster Chopper.
yay, I contributed -
RE: Chapter 687: Wild animal
So if Monet was a guy, and Zoro treated him the same way, it would be totally acceptable?
Yes. Thus, Zoro is not sexist.
I HATE this post. And all you people who kiss its author's ass.
Reason: 1. It's all correct, and i agree with the POV. 2. It's kind of boring, really. The only insightful analogy is that Zoro is pulling a Mihawk, completely outclassing his opponent. 3. I'm jelly. 4. I'm pissed off at this chapter for no reasonable explanation.
If anything, you should be glad at the cover page. It's so horrible that it's silly.
…But this chapter is still sub-par. There was a lack of suspense throughout, and a lot of moments in here are too trite, especially Tashigi's near loss. That Oda is still bringing it in is what bothers me. And calling it shonen as an excuse is no argument. She needs character development, dammit. Zoro is fine; Tashigi, no.
On the other hand, the finishing strikes were done beautifully (albeit disappointed with a lack of flames). Burn the snow-witch, I say! Even Law's crew doesn't deserve you, Monet. (But that doesn't mean I don't want you to return. You have potential...)
-
RE: Chapter 686: Biscuit's room snow woman
People are missing the point. It's not about Zoro vs Monet, it's Zoro vs Tashigi in a heated verbal battle!
This is what everyone should really talk about, in this chapter: Zoro can now give directions to someone.
Who wants to bet that Sanji suddenly gets lost instead?
-
RE: Chapter 684: "Stop it, Vegapunk"
The more I think about it, the more this makes sense.
Opening to Nippon Mukashi Banashi, a long running children show in Japan about old folklores.
http://imageshack.us/a/img525/6850/img357378623173312.jpg
The story this refers to is Tatsunoko Taro. (Taro, Son of a Dragon)
About tale of Taro, in search of his mother who was turned into a dragon.
What with Luffy wearing red jacket and nothing underneath, resembling Taro from the opening animation…
Him being the "Son of Dragon", Momonosuke is someone who turned into a Dragon..
There's so much reference parallels here lol.Now if only Enel were to show up somewhere, the parallels would be complete.

RE: Chapter 683: A Girl Like Ice
I gotta agree.
I took one look at Law a-
[/fangasm explosion ; dead]
I looked and after a while of fangasming so damn hard I could almost s- AHEM. After a while, I saw a resemblance to Gin.I'm glad I returned to these forums. These reactions of yours are simply priceless.
If it is Gin though, he'd have to change his hairstyle a bit. It has been 2 years, so it's plausible… maybe... probably not, but the resemblance is rather striking. Are they related?
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
@The:
- Jinbe after proper flashback, dream and buildup
I'm sold on this. The way he decides to stick around implies there's still more room to go, even if what we've seen of him so far after FI is through Caribou's sidestory. I hope he isn't simply left out at FI just to clear the place of incoming pirates or whatnot before his next reappearance.
- Kinemon.
This one… I can't say I agree. He ain't gonna leave his kid after he finds him, and I doubt the kid's coming along for the ride too.
I don't see any other options at the moment. Monet is too much of a Robin (except lacking in ambiguity) and Baby 5 only just appeared, and I'm 99% sure her Doflamingo hatred is a character quirk, or running gag.
Plus, her power is, so far at least, a massive Wapol rehash. More uniqueness in the crew plz.Yes to more originality; Maybe to the character quirk. It would be delightful to know if Dofla just pissed her off by putting her in a maid outfit. For a woman who looks like a weapon lover, wearing a maid's outfit is one of the worst ways to ridicule.
I can consent. The classic "trapped" damsel type is getting old. -
RE: Chapter 681: "Luffy Vs. Master"
So I don't get a sense that Luffy and Monet will fight. Can someone explain their panels together to me?
There's the possibility, but I doubt it too. She was simply warding off Luffy so Ceasar could escape, and they have a little chat about Joker. The next thing we see of them, she's not even paying attention to Luffy. Luffy himself is just standing there in confusion. She most likely will try to block him if he continues pursuit, but I don't see a serious fight here.
-
RE: Shanks vs Magellan
I generally follow one rule when I'm voting: Campaigns first, nostalgia second, and personal tastes third. Good job, Warden & co.
But, I'll hold my vote for a bit more, just to see if Shanks supporters can dish it out as well.
-
RE: Chapter 666: Yeti Cool Brothers
Honestly, Oda can bend and break the rules whenever he feels it's too restrictive, but so far, there are only at most 4 bird zoans shown, 3 if Monet indeed is not a zoan.
Nothing against Monet, as we haven't seen enough of her yet, but she's not the kind of character I would hope another of the 5 bird zoans to be. So far, she's pretty boring and not so original of a character design - albeit being present in such a location is odd. Plus, there's an equally viable option of it being Law's work.
And knowing Oda, who says there can't be a harpy
or griffinzoan, for example?Caesar may have influenced Law's current actions using his gas powers or something. The latter looked rather odd in that one panel.
-
RE: Chapter 666: Yeti Cool Brothers
I still don't see how Monet is not a Devil Fruit user. She evidently transformed back to human form in the middle of CC's and Law's current conversation. There was no flashback involving Law meeting her and transforming her.
Note that she can flip pages with her wings, but she needs to write in human form, and asking Law to replace wings for arms mid-conversation is rude and disruptive.
Besides, why turn arms into wings when you have 2 working arms and wings can be added on without taking away arms?
It's far more plausible that Monet is a Tori Tori no Mi user, like Pell and Laffitte.
Not sure if trolling… screw it, definitely trolling.
Guys, stop making Lafitte feel unoriginal. There are supposed to be only 5 bird zoans among all DFs, and I feel safe to assume that each one is very different from the others.
-
RE: Chapter 664: Master Caesar Clown
@Miss:
there are two scanlated pages so there's much text… too bad I don't understand even a word of Japanese :(
Ah, okay. It's completely just plot summary and descriptions of characters - things we already know since the timeskip and some of the New World. The bit about Jinbe, Croco, Moriah = all former Shichibukai. We know what happened to Croco and Jinbe, not with Moriah. Yada yada.
Oh, wait. There's one new character: the news editor! His name is Royder (Loyder?). He's pictured in the lower left of the second page.
Where are these pages from? I think I saw there around somewhere, but I don't remember where.
-
RE: Chapter 664: Master Caesar Clown
Someone mind posting a link to whatever something that needs translating? I hear Moria is involved.

RE: Toriko
This latest arc has really been giving me a nostalgic blast. I'm actually liking this more than the current One Piece, not quite by the imaginative/creative aspects, but by the sense of environment. It's not the best, of course, but interesting all the same.
I can't be the only one here thinking that though.

ONE PIECE 653 RAW HQ
Toei will do well with Brook's new singles.
Page 4-5:
"Once the mor~ning has awakened, Good mornin-gyo~♪" -> explains why MR and MS differ as such (ningyo = mermaid/merfolk)
Neither site gave notice to the following lyrics: "Night at the Cafe~ Good Evenin-gyo~♪" on the next page.
Page 9:
"Coupling Music!! 'Requiem For Us'~♪" -> as in, coupled with his new single (kyoku = song, music, melody)
Page 10: Sanji declares the mermaids as his heart's "All Blue".
Page 12: The kokun by Jinbe's head shows that he's nodding respectfully.
Ima go work-play nao.
-
RE: Chapter 653: The hero's hat
I think one surfaced in the spoiler thread.
Ah, here it is.
Thanks, but I notice there seem to be a few lines of script missing. I can't find that specific line of Brook's.
-
RE: Last Two Nakamates (vol. 5)
Honestly, Oda's so-called "tease" is quite the successful compromise. Fans and haters alike can accept a result like this without too much complaint.*
As for where I stand, I've really been quite adamant against him for the chance to celebrate "victory" more than anything, even though I had long and gladly accepted him as a potential crewmate. But now I settle in disappointment that the Fishman Island arc has ended
and that the levels of disappointment from eager fans isn't as great as I'd hoped for. Goodbye and good riddance to those annoying, whining forum arguments; greetings to the advent of the New World! From this point on, I'm turning to the SBS for subtle clues. Hooray for super-floaty wood!
-
RE: Chapter 653: The hero's hat
Nice to see Oda's SBS creation of Incredibly-Floaty-Wood finally pays off 478 chapters later!!
There's a pun with its name too. furyoku is buoyancy, and flipping "kuigosu" around becomes "sugoiku", thus is "amazing buoyancy".
Hm, is there a solid script to glance at for confirmation of Brook's "Requiem" on page 9 (pg 10 for MS)? I'd like to know its correct name.
-
RE: Questions That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread
The Japanese name literally translates to "Awakened Zoan Transformation". What Crocodile explained doesn't hint at all how they became awakened in the first place. It's as much a mystery to fans in Japan as us.
-
RE: Chapter 652: "Grim Prospects Ahead" -Discussion
It is from Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol, the character is the mock turtle.
Now it makes sense. Thanks.
Since so much of BM's crew is influenced by fairy tails, it makes sense to include something like this… merged in with the ancient lion turtle of myth. So, technically, he's a tortoise.
-
RE: Chapter 652: "Grim Prospects Ahead" -Discussion
@ultimateclima:
Lion-turtles. Made me think of this. (Though Pekoms is more likely a tortoise since turtles swim and well…)
Oh, I've seen these things beyond Avatar… more like from studies on certain ancient Chinese myths. Also, a picture of an artifact http://www.viorietje.jp/14_7.html <- The tail definitely is that of a lion.
OMG LION TORTOISE PEKKOMS!
Remind me of where this is from, please.
But it looks more like a pig than a lion -

RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
Random thoughts here again. There may be a chance that Kaidou is religious. He could also be the youngest of the Yonkou, if Shanks is older than he seems to be. Oh, bad puns…
-
RE: Volume 65 Prediction Thread
Given that the annoying ones about characters' Haki, future crewmates, Lola's Mom, etc. were ignored purposely for the sake of no spoilers, I suppose so. As well the usual birthday requests, and such forth…
But there should definitely be one featuring a reader mimicking Zeo. There just has to be.
-
RE: Volume 65 Prediction Thread
Happy holidays, everyone!
Since Oda drew the Shichibukai and the SNs as kids in the last SBSs, I predict that he'll maybe show us known marines as kids in this volume's SBS.
I drew a version of how of them could look like:
[hide]http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/j2gb-8-c9f0.jpg
http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/j2gb-9-45c4.jpg
http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/j2gb-a-d3d9.jpg
[/hide]
Since DarthAsthma criticized my last preds of BigMom in a good way (Oda really uses more line shading than I've done yet), I tried to use more line-shadin, so my drawings look more oda-ish than b4.
For those of you who can't read Katakana, try to figure out which kid is which marine.
I'm lookin forward to your feedback! I'll maybe also try to draw other parties as kids (legends like WB, Roger, Shanks, Buggy, Ray and Shakky) if u like my work.Wow. (>∀0)b
Btw, the first kana character in Hina's name is incorrect. There's no " beside it. Also, the last kana in Kuzan looks like a ソ (so) rather than a ン (n). But for someone who isn't that good in Jap, I applaud you for getting almost all of the kanji right.
You may slap me for acting so picky because your art more than exempts from such mistakes. But I digress.Any bets on what's going to be in this SBS? It's always fun peering through them.
-
RE: General Anime Discussion Thread
@Chibi:
maybe it's just a wordplay or a diminutive name of Shirahoshi, the name of the princess, no ?
because that can't be "white sail", the kanji don't match with the logic, and i don't find anything relating to it in the manga
I'd say it's a typo, as abbreviating it as "shiraho" doesn't make sense. If abbreviated, it'd be simply "shira".

Honestly, did anyone want me back just because they missed me?
@Chibi:
ep 531's preview: http://www.fujitv.co.jp/GPplayer/e/GPplayerJMe.html?anime/onepiece/onepiece_20120116a&type=flv
Funimation, Y U NO sub da preview?
Apologies for the tardiness lately and in advance for the likely ones later on. School is back in session, and I don't have as much free time anymore.
"With the permission from Fishman Island's King Neptune, Luffy and co head for Ryuuguu Palace. But, Luffy strays from the group in search of something to eat. Instead, he discovers something else entirely."
"Ryuuguu Palace! Led by the Shark They Saved!"…Ah, good enough, right?
@Miss:
Animation was handled well. Only complaint would be directed at Funimation itself - not Toei - for their continual attempts to piss me off with these subs. Hordy? Splash and Spratta?
Also, what is this "jammon" stuff? I don't remember it in the manga at all.Did Neptune always have that "jamon" verbal tic in the manga and it wasn't translated or was that added to the anime?
It's as true as it was in the manga (minus all the extra "jamon" he said). It's a play on speech; "ja" is usually used by elderly or middle-aged men in place of "da" or "desu", "mon" is a childish ending to statements. He's both because
he's SantaOda does so. -
RE: Official Fishman Island Discussion
@ultimateclima:
I have mixed feelings on the issue.
! It's stated Cake Island is a three day trip from Fishman Island. And if Luffy is determined to find Big Mom right away I think he would ask the Baron and Pekoms where he could find her. Plus, this "tea party" could give a reason to see Big Mom's entire crew since there seems to be factions that run errands.
! And the other hand, Oda has side tracked before. He could easily throw other stories in between their confrontation. Big Mom could be found on a different island or on the sea somewhere.
! I still think it might be too soon to face a Yonkou but given the crew's massive growth maybe facing a world power is just the challenge the Straw Hats need.
! Plus there's the Marines to think about. The crew needs updated bounties. I do think facing a Yonkou would warrant a raise but I think people were expecting a direct confrontation. There is still the New Marineford in the New World. And Mariejoa is still within the crew's vicinity. Oda could find a way to get the crew there.Anybody want to make bets for the crew's next destination?
Mariejoa
New Marineford
Cake Island (I'll bet here and not just because I want to see the island)
Other New World Island (one that may or may not have been visited by another supernova)
???Well, I can see where you got the 3 days from, but it's not stated. Nor is it stated that Fishman Island is the location of their tea party. Big Mom doesn't seem to want to leave for FI anyway, since she calls Luffy to come to her. But, it makes sense that Cake
is a lieIsle should be close enough at least for her to expect Luffy soon.Well, my bets are on a bit of sidetracking… first by Marine forces from HQ -- which should last within several pages -- and later... something I haven't a clue about. But if Cake Isl
ie is only a few days away, then the resulting meeting could start off a confrontation that is somehow interrupted, but I'm not partial to declaring BM as Lola's mom. It's too obvious of a move for Oda to pull.unless the contrary is what the majority expects, so he returns to the "obvious" route, and I'm just BS-ingA completely new NW island in between these two locations would be rather welcome, though. Ah, I can't decide.

Found in 2ch.
Dammit, I hate it when I read through a chapter, I miss out on so many details! All the more reason to re-read each of them.
Hmph, the panel where Sanji imagines Big Mom is indeed written in Japanese. Where did I get the idea that it was written in English… And how did I miss that Tamago's top hat is a tea cup that he sips out of? How does it not slip when he tilts his head up?
Why a compass, Zoro? And now you show up, Pandaman!? What happened to your merpal!? Aaaaaagh!!?[/jumps out of window]
