Wait, wait, wait. Back-up a sec. That guy was half-fishman? Since when? i don't remember that ever being said
Actually he's human. The fin is part of a decorative headband. I think Oda mentioned it in one of the early SBS's.
Apparently in the One Piece Blue: Grand Data File, it says that he's half fishman. I have no fucking clue though, someone would have to look and verify it. You'd think there'd be more attention paid to him if he was, though.
Thanks King Canon for getting my point. I though I said tht I first mistook it as a head fin and didn't think it was Chew, but after relooking at it, it looks like mohawk. true He iddin't run a taiyoki stand like adult Hatchan but neither did Kuroobi. IT wa a dream of the three when they were younger.
Also that is not a beard on teh one pulling a cart, its lips curved into a smile. I had to enlarge it to see the lips, its hard to see in small pic.
It's a fin, and he isn't Chew. He doesn't look like Chew, he's obviously older than Chew would be. He's pulling a cart and wearing that thing on his head. It's the seller. Not Chew.
Lol. Good to see you're still the same, Rey.
Um ok.
If you're so sure about this, then why the hell is Chew not there?
Because Oda didn't feel like drawing him in? Maybe Chew wasn't a big fan of takoyaki? Maybe Oda plans to reintroduce Kuroobi later on? Who the fuck knows, maybe there just isn't a reason. It's not like Oda even cares about them to even be consistent about their ages (I'M LOOKING AT YOU, HACHI)
And no, Chew, Kuroobi and Hachi were never a trio, they were with Arlong and they were a quad… or whatever it's called. What I do know is that the dude pulling the cart isn't Chew. He clearly has facial hair, he has that thing around his head signifying that he's the actual seller, he's pulling a cart. It isn't Chew.
How is that guy not Chew? I mean, sure they don't look alike, but it would be extremely random for Oda to draw an entirely different unknown character along with Hachi and Kuroobi while Chew is nowhere in sight. That would be like Oda drawing Akainu, Kizaru and Rear Admiral Whatever doing stuff together while Aokiji is nowhere in sight.
That guy has a FUCKING BEARD, for starters.
Not to mention a head fin, which Chew never had.
Wow you are a complete retard.
Not saying that it isn't enough, but it's vastly different to be told "this is why Arlong hates humans" and being SHOWN "this is why Arlong hates humans", which is to say, I'm hoping for an Arlong/Shyari-centric flashback sometime later.
What I find strange is that Arlong has had so much focus. For a character that is unlikely to reappear, Fishman Island has revolved a lot around him. Everyone is connected to him in some sort of way, directly or indirectly.
Also I just noticed something, is it me or is Miss Monday missing half her left leg??
That's not true, there were a lot of people (especially in this forum) who thought the idea was ludicrous for a couple of weeks. They would rather pull Doflamingo, Big Mam, WG, or VDD out the a** than look at the obvious Hody figure.
True, I did. And I'm still disappointed it was Hody who killed Otohime.
It just kind of sucks that Oda has been planning this chapter so long just to have another mother-killing fishman supremacist as a villain.
The problem with this arc is that Hodi is an awful, with no real reason in hating humans and no real reason in overthrowing the kingdom other than blaaah. He has no characterization, he is bland and nothing about him is interesting. He has no real ambition and no real reasons behind his way of thoughts. People that said that they didnt believe that hodi killed otohime were hoping for it, trying to hope that Hodi wouldnt be the main bad guy, as he is that bad of a character.
While I kind of agree, most villains haven't had strong reasons either. The only one I can really explain is Arlong and Lucci, the latter cause he was an orphan raised by the WG, which would explain the fanatical loyalty.
But Hody's hatred for humans isn't out there either; as seen before, he and Arlong were raised in a horrible lawless ghetto as orphans. Where it was highly implied that most of the kids raised there were orphaned as a result of the great pirate age. Mostly out of the slavery business and chaos from all the pirates and marines who stomped through FI until WB stepped in.
If your parents were killed by humans and you were stuck in a shithole that is the Fishman District with a parental figure like Arlong, you'd hate them too.
Something else I was a bit confused about…the sizing issue...
http://www.mangareader.net/one-piece/632/4 I didn't think the princes were anywhere near the same size as their father or Shirahoshi. But in this panel they seem to be only slightly smaller than him. I thought they were more normal sized…
If there is one thing Oda does suck at, it's size consistency. Just reread Little Garden lol.
I think that it was more of another connection we were to make to Arlong really, not really her. I mean, we got 0 info on him after the Arlong arc. I think that means he escaped before being imprisoned, and was powering up somewhere else and he'll show up again with a haymaker punch to Hody's drugged out face. Avenge his people and sister.
I'm not convinced Arlong is going to come back, if anything this convinces me more that he isn't needed anymore and won't reappear. Arlong's presence is being shown throughout all the levels of this arc; from the impact of the slave trade (the orphanage), to the Sunny Pirates, to Hody. He doesn't need to be around to make an impact. His actual appearance would be pointless.
Furthermore, Oda would have hinted at his reappearance in a different way. Buggy was hinted to reappear via newspaper, and Hachi via a coverstory. Everything seems to point out against Arlong reappearing because if he had escaped prison everybody, and I mean everybody, would know about it.
A good question, especially in light of her relation to Arlong… What happened in their youth to make Arlong despise humans (as he did so to some extent even before the Tiger incident set him off), and does Shyari share that prejudice?
So being orphaned by rampaging pirates and marines and being forced to live in a crime-ridden and filthy excuse for an orphanage isn't enough to hate humans?
Pretty sure I would hate humans too in his shoes.
You are thinking too much about this. Sure, we could go all numerology and astrology on who will join next, but we could also NOT do that and just follow the story and draw logical conclusions.
I think it may be thinking too much, especially since most of the SHs' birthdays were decided by fans (at least that's the way I got it from the SBSs), but remember that astrology in Japan is a much bigger deal than it is here in the U.S.
At least that's the impression I've gotten.
Buggy is recurring cause Oda shows him as some sort of Luffy counterpart, not to mention he's mainly comic relief anyway.
But I really don't think that the NW is going to be full of old characters. Yeah some are understandable, but I can't see him bringing back every old villain.
i hope that Oda will Not bring back all the Villains cause then he'd have no Time to introduce New characters
i also hope That People will stop Randomly Punctuating words.
@Monkey:
Oh wow, underwear, thats so much more exciting than tits and ass
To be fair, we see at least half of Nami's ass and most women's crotch lines a lot now. They cannot be wearing any underwear.
IDK about you but those are some fucking long crotch lines. Not to mention having pants/skirts/etc so low looks so fucking uncomfortable.
I'm not playing art critic. I'm just saying it's an old outdated picture from 2009 and that there are better more recent pictures that more accurately depict Arlong and Jinbe as kids.
Stop looking so deeply at my comments. Just because I don't go "omg so awesoooome" at a picture doesn't mean I hate it or whatever.
Also Dragon Most likely isn't a logia but a paramecia.
That's the feeling am getting.
I see alot of similarities between The earthquake fruit and Dragons Wind fruit(yes am aware we don't know for sure dragons ability but its pretty obvious.)
Both abilities have been shown to bring about natural disasters. Now that said.
Wind is without a doubt a force of nature.
If dragon ends up being a paramecia (which most likely is the case) than Logia's being forces of nature definition needs to be changed, or just explained better.
Not really, dragons in eastern mythology are known for controlling the weather.
I hope there's two dragon models; one for eastern and one for western.
Although Dragon having the dragon fruit is too obvious for One Piece.
Saying Jinbe's crew will join Big Mam sounds like you're really pulling at straws there.
Although I am interested in what happened with Aladdin and the rest.
The only thing that I find a bit weird in Skyward Sword's character models are the lips.
! [qimg]http://www.deviantart.com/download/167761959/Zelda__Skyward_Sword_Link_by_skywardsword.jpg[/qimg]
I just think those kind of lips look misplaced on a "cartoony"-looking character like that. :ninja: they look retarded
Link just keeps getting more feminine each game, huh?
Personally I don't like anyone from this arc (a small interest in Shira because face it, she's hot and the crew needs more females) I'd rather if it wasn't Jinbe because I just can't seem to like his character all that much, but if he did join I wouldn't have a problem with it because Oda won't make him a bad character.
I really hope the SH's get another DF user as a nakama. They already have plenty of people without DF's so why couldn't they get someone with a badass DF? (not caribou <.<)
Hopefully they meet someone in the NW with a Mystical Zoan or a super powerful rare Logia type DF.
While I would like the crew to have another woman join, I don't want it to be a weak-willed crybaby like Shirahoshi is. That's exactly what I don't want - and what Luffy doesn't want - in the crew.
I don't think we should have any more DF users - they already make up almost half the crew, which is huge proportionally.
Not really, I just know that picture has been around for a long time.
There's also a Nack poster:
[qimg]http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab108/MarcelloF91/FanTheSniper.png[/qimg]
Wow, I thought they had forgotten about him and the other two dudes years ago.
I picked up Okami again, since I had never beat it, because the first 20 hours of the game are a snoozefest. IDK how but there were like three different files that we had in that game all of them stopped after 20 hours.
I'm at the final spot at Kamui, and just beat the third devil gate - major pain in the ass. I will NEVER do that again. I spent close to a million yen getting prepared for it. God do I hate Rao and Nagi's throw-a-shit-ton-of-knives-at-you attacks. Wouldn't be a problem alone but you have to fight TWO of Rao at the same time and then THREE of Nagi at the same time. FFUUU-
Right now my wrist hurts from shaking the wiimote so much.
Yeah, I have the wii version which is GLITCHY AS FUCK, especially in the 3rd devil gate version, my sceen looked torn whenever I used beads as a secondary weapon wtf.
And my last bead I need to get from beating Kai. AND I CAN'T BEAT THAT BITCH NO MATTER HOW HARD A TRY.
OTL
Also the only two fish I'm missing are the Giant Catfish (sei'an) and the Oarfish (kamui) but no matter how long I fish, day or night, I can't get either. Any tips? :/
Quoted from the Couples thread~
If you want, I'll give you a discription of each story.
Are they mostly gen or shipping or what? Or are they really diverse?
You could always read mine its an original work that mirrors the series after the shaobody arch with OC's that tie to the main cast : )
No thanks, avoiding that kind of fanfiction is partly why I made this thread, no offense. xD;;;
My wishlist:
1. Ridley
2. Ridley
3. Ridley
4. Tingle
5. Mii, just so I can play as Miiyamoto.
I've kind of noticed that most OP fanfiction on fanfiction.net, well… completely suck. It's amazing how many mary-sues there are in OP section, you think the wacky art style would scare them back to Naruto territory.
I figured this could also be outside the Couples thread since even though most fanfiction is romantic in nature.
Essentially this is a thread for people to avoid shifting through the hoard of crap there and get straight to the good stuff. So recommend away!
I was wondering if there was some Gen funny stuff to read. I'm not fussy about One Piece couples for the most part so hints wouldn't bother me much.
Tough choice, since I love both characters.
I think I'll go with Buggy next year.
That's a pretty old picture, now we know that Arlong is only five years younger than Jinbe. Plus fishman island doesn't look like that.
Ceres has a lot of good art with child Jinbe and Arlong; http://demonhaunterceres.deviantart.com/gallery/
I'm going to go with FUUUURAANKY.
I never understood Shank's massive popularity. Sure, he did some cool stuff but he doesn't exactly appear much.
@sag:
Btw they should recruit a coater of some sorts because well you never know when would you need (or want) to start an "underwater voyage".
It'd make more sense to just have someone teach Franky how to do it.
Plus, not every island has bubbles like Saobody or Fishman Island.
I managed to get a friend out of liking Naruto and into reading One Piece after several years.
She now admits that One Piece is a million times better than Naruto and recently caught up. :D
And it's 2:30 in the morning so forgive me if I should post this here at all x_x
Hammond looked pretty good as a fishman even though he was weak. Kind of miss him since none of the other fishman pirate fodder look anywhere near as good. Might even go as far as to say that he looks better than Hody's underlings (Dosun, Daruma, etc).
Yeah, I agree I really liked his design a lot too myself.
Where is Hammond? Is that bastard still asleep?
What? Someone else gives a shit about Hammond outside of Skadi, Ceres and I?
I figure it was him in the lower right panel on page 13, but I guess that dude only looks like him.
Sure guys, keep thinking that mermen can be blue despite all evidence to the contrary. Whatever.
Let's give Luffy blue hair while we're at it.
Hey I don't have a problem calling people dumbasses and being called a dumbass inother threads.
I come here, and I say Hyouzou shouldn't be blue and suddenly OH NOES DELETE POSTS THEY ARE NOT NICE BAWW.
There isn't anything wrong with celebrating near someone's grave so long as they're not celebrating their death or trampling on the grave itself.
I don't get where people pull out Ace and Nojiko.
And there are no "perfect" couples, please quit that nonsense.
Considering Daruma destroyed it, I doubt it.
Not entirely, since two members of their crew went to fetch them.
Kinda wondering what's up with that myself.
Not really. That logic is what led us to believe that we'd already met Enel when he hadn't (through Sanji's words, mostly). Madam Shirley could certainly be connected, as well, since Hodi seemed keenly aware of a very recently predicted prophecy. And if it's someone who was introduced before the timeskip, like Dofla, then the moment he appears would blow his cover to the readers, so it'd make sense to keep him hidden.
No, I don't mean number of chapters. I mean tension/drama/plot/twists/etc. It's all been very simple and straightforward. Granted the stuff with racism has some welcome subtle complexity to it, but it doesn't stack up by itself in a Shonen sense.
Not really, no. He's already reaching his limits. Shortly after the flashback, Hodi asked for another ES because the effects of the previous one had worn off, not because it wasn't enough to ease the pain. These things aren't exactly long duration drugs.
Let's be fair, we haven't seen shit in the Luffy/Jinbe fight yet. Neither of them have gotten serious.
It's true that Zoro might not have been able to slice up Hodi underwater before the timeskip, but it was still a tension destroying move. If someone has to fight a roided up Hodi underwater, then there's no reason that it would be Luffy over Jinbe, who should by all rights be the superior underwater fighter.
It was resolved by him taking Otohime to the surface so that she could get a declaration of friendship? What!? Nobles aren't that forgiving, as they've been built up as far bigger bastards than that. Otohime likely got that letter from the guy's father in exchange for saving his son's life.
She's the reason that Kizaru was still after Luffy in Marineford, and will continue to be after they surface. The SH's will be facing that power after they resurface whether they instigate it in this arc or not. So why shouldn't they? It's not as if they'd have to actually face that power in this arc.
100% agreed with Urouge.
This arc was built up to be a tenryuubito ass kicking arc, not an Arlong 2.0 arc. I still think there's something going on behind the scenes, but I figure Oda is waiting to bring it up when we least expect it.
