But I actually really want this. The old games in their minimalism, survival, and atmosphere but with a more standard control scheme and camera like the new games? That would be fantastic.

It would be pretty awesome to have the elements from the original game combined with some of them from the new ones, such as the camera, like you said.

To be honest I don't think they will need to reboot the series just to make it back to it's roots.
