RE: What manga are you reading and how do you like it? What do you plan to read?
Recently finished Oyasumi Punpun. Cried so much at the end, thought it was amazing, Aiko is one of my favourite characters in anything ever. So many powerful scenes
Am reading Lone Wolf and Cub having bought ALL the Dark Horse omnibuses. Super informative, interesting and great, with Retsudo being such an intense villain. Series is building to what looks like a terrific climax. How stupidly strong Itto kind of takes away from the realism however.
Plan to read Golden Kamui, Real, Nana, Dorohedoro and Eden: Its an Endless World next. -
RE: Vinland Saga
Man, this arc is so so good. And there's so much potential for the future. This series looks like it has very promising years ahead of it

As a non-French Lille fan, I'm proper worried about how Eder is going to get treated here.Congratulations Portugal :)

RE: General football "soccer" thread
Pepe's been really, really good in the euros from what I've seen.
if only Eder could get a game …

RE: Epic Rap Battles Of History Thread
I liked it, and the comments are indeed dreadful, but the Kylie Jenner line really irked me. maybe because its the Hulk saying it, but its just creepy

RE: General football "soccer" thread
The attackers playing in this euro need to get a grip. Shocking offensive displays from almost every team, though at least the goals that have been scored have been terrific

@xan:
Just curious but why are the English fans constantly targeted? I remember there was news that during CL clashes with EPL teams many of the club ultras from Italy and Spain had planned to thrash them just because they are English supporters. Is this some one of thing that I referred to or these things happen quite consistently?!
English fans have a big history of hooliganism, maybe more than any other country. It's no way nearly as bad nowadays, but maybe a lot of foreign fans remember how the likes of Milwall supporters who trash towns, and even just national team supporters. Hence why when some English fans cause a small ruckus the French police go "oh shit they're about to trash everything lets stop them"

RE: Kingdom
Completely forgot about this series, and caught up to the last 60 odd chapters. Had lost interest after the Fire Dragons of Wei arc because it looked like the series had lost ideas and was just recycling the same format for every arc, and though this one kind of does exactly the same it still manages to be really enjoyable. Kanki is (comfortably) the most villainous villain in the series.
Trying not to spoil, but looking at how many wars there are between now and the unification of China, and with every war arc just being the same thing, I can see this series getting REALLY boring eventually. Politics moments are cool, but he still has to mix something up with coming wars

RE: General football "soccer" thread
Can totally see Mourinho to PSG. Blanc messed that up soooo badly
-
RE: General football "soccer" thread
Holy crap I saw that.
The secong goal was funny, when he fell. Can I ask you to break his legs? He is still dreadful for our NT and this will make sure he will be called.
This is worth a declaration of war.Maybe it's a french championship thing. Nelson Oliveira also managed to score 8 goals there.
If its any concern he looks like he's injured himself every few minutes, only to carry on limping across the pitch for the rest of the game. I'm sure he'll get injured before the euros
He did score 13 goals in 18 games one season for braga … I'm sure he has SOME quality. Maybe he's just taller than defenders. I think that's it. That crazy goal is just a fluke among flukes -
RE: General football "soccer" thread
A bad player they said
His first touch and control are terrible they said
(to be fair, his first touch and control are still dreadful)

RE: General football "soccer" thread
A question for our French football fans- could you guys tell me what the current word on PSG's Serge Aurier is? Still suspended? Completely out of favour? Possibly changing clubs? I'm really curious about that! Thanks.
He hasn't been sacked, he just has to train with the reserves for all of March and do charity work. So he'll be back in CL QF if they beat Chelsea, but idk if he'll be sold in the summer … if Ibra leaves, he probably won't, I think the other teammates and Blanc will forgive him.

What the… NO! NO! You are not supposed to score, especially after everything I´ve (rightfully) said about you!
Keep your mediocrity so you won´t get called for the Euros please.he got injured immediately after that, don't worry ;)
He actually had a really decent half. Pressed a lot, and even if he only had one shot it got a goal. Hopefully he won't be out for too long (i think a month at most). Better than what Lille have already
-
RE: General football "soccer" thread
^ oh dear
I don't think Lille have crossed more than 5 times all season, very ball playing team … this sounds like a recipe for disaster
The sad thing is he'll be starting regularly ... if he does score a few goals before the end of the season, I don't suppose he'll make it for the euros? He did say that was his aim (using the logic of "if the euros are in france ... and I play in france ... that means I have more chance of going to the euros??")
Thanks for the scouting report anywayMaybe there's a chance the documents got confused and we signed Sampdoria's Eder

There are portuguese football fans here, right? Can anyone tell me about Eder? Apparently he's pretty bad, but was kind of good before an injury?
-
RE: General football "soccer" thread
I don't like Benitez, but I do genuinely feel bad for him because Real Madrid was a dream job, and it obviously meant a lot for him. He'll probably get the Spain job after the Euros because I think Del Bosque is retiring, so all should be fine for him at least.
Also Tevez is serie a player of 2015? I spent all december waiting for Higuain to be announced, then checked the wikipedia article and turns out Tevez, who hasn't even been in Italy for half a year, got given the award a couple of months ago :[

RE: General football "soccer" thread
First game in the League Cup this season and we're basically out already. Defeated at home by Marítimo for the first time in history, after 40 and something games between the 2 teams. And the problem was that we didn't play that bad, offensively. The defense was another matter. (We desperately need some centre backs. And Martins Indi needs to play. Like, always.) It's just that the subs were so, so awful. Badly thought. Evandro, Varela, Tello, Marcano, Maicon. Awful game from these guys. We needed to win this match, and fucking Flopetegui takes André André off for Imbula. Or Sérgio for Corona. What in the world. I'm just waiting for Sporting to beat us in Lisbon in 4 days and retake the 1st position in the league to complete the misery that this coach has brought to FC Porto…
Am I wrong in thinking Imbula has been pretty bad for Porto? I remember him saying he gave up learning Portuguese and got a lot of shit for that

RE: General football "soccer" thread
Ibrahimovic has more goals than games in the league right now while playing like complete trash, pretty much only getting simple finishes and penalties, and giving away the ball like no one's problem. It's weird how people just look at goals for strikers: Higuain for example passes superbly, holds up the ball, and his finishes are superb. Outside of the box, or using his strength, or at really tight angles, he's been maybe the best striker in the world (don't watch much lewa, but both he and Suarez have loads more service than him).
It's also weird how when I do get to see Aubameyang play, as much as I love him as a player, he doesn't score the hardest of goals and even misses pretty easy ones. I wonder how much of his goal scoring comes down to playing with Mkhtaryan and Kagawa around him. -

Does anyone know the name of the Scottish La Liga commentator who sounds like he's drowning and orgasms whenever any one of MSN touch the ball? I keep laughing hysterically when he shouts 'INCREDIBLE-ABSOLUTELY EXTRATERRESTRIAL- MARVELLOUS' when I'm looking at La Liga highlights, but I don't know how to find out who he is

I main jungle, particularly farm heavy junglers. When I want to win games i tend to just fill and support, but honest to god there are few more enjoyable and relaxing experiences than building full attack speed Trundle jungle and walloping Gromps for half an hour. Yi, Xin, and WW are all great full attack speed stress relieving junglers. I suggest anyone who's had a stressful day to spend a game slapping jungle monsters as fast as you can

RE: Food Wars - It's In the Trash
^ Isn't it possible that it's meant to be a bit tongue in cheek with how generic Azami is? I mean, the series has used stuff like harems, very stereotypical character types, tournament arcs, all sorts of tropes
I'm not saying its deliberately taking the piss, more like that its continuing a trend of not being entirely serious. Idk to be honest, maybe it's just been too long that I've read a proper shounen series that i'm lenient about all the dumb stuff happening with generic villains and damsel in distress female characters, but at the same time I don't see how the series wasn't like that before - most female characters have gotten pushed aside and made part of Soma's harem, and few characters are actually, when you get down to it, not the same character that's been done a 100 times in these series. The series hasn't jumped the shark by any means, just the focus has shifted from character interactions to a bigger plot (for now) -
RE: Food Wars - It's In the Trash
Woah, people don't like the last few chapters? I just caught up to the last 10-15 and am LOVING it so much, such intense villains and the art has been really, really good. Glancing over the complaints they seem mostly to be about plot holes and stuff, which I guess I didn't notice reading it in bulk instead of analysing it week by week, and I'm glad I didn't because if you take the new arc in the right mindset its just so over the top fun

RE: General football "soccer" thread
Kloppo going to Liverpool. Color me surprised yet highly intrigued.
I can mostly agree with what you say but I just want to point out that I seriously enjoy watching Aurier play. Great talent that lad. On that note…
What's happening to Lyon (Lacacette in particular) and Marseille this season? Sure, they lost some of their key players over the summer but such a slump in quality should not be happening.
Aurier has been lovely, could be the best RB in the world the next 5-10 years (though the competitions not all that great)
Lyon is basically injuries to Fekir, Grenier, and Yanga-Mbiwa, with not much depth in attack, a really bad pre-season … Lacazette has had troubles with the coach in terms of having signed his new contract, and doesn't necessarily want to be at Lyon, plus hasn't been the same since a slight injury late last season.
Marseille is just a mess. Bielsa walking out, much weaker squad consisting of strange signings that don't really fit, bad centre backs, really bad luck too. Mentally I imagine its a shambles.
You didn't mention Monaco, but they have to go through an entire season of 4 competitions with only 3 centre backs to choose from: 37 year old Carvalho, 32 year old Raggi, and 20 year old Wallace. You have to feel bad for that -
RE: General football "soccer" thread
This season and every season since Paris was bought by the prince of an oil-rich kingdom. It's disgusting, honestly. Way to inflate the football business and ruin the competitiveness of the French Ligue 1. At least they now have a team that can play in the UCL, because french performances in Europe were very lackluster since the beginning of times (except in the 1990s, with Marseille winning 1 UCL and Paris winning a CWC).
Bordeaux and Lyon had some good moments in the CL in the last 10 years before PSG came along, but I have no doubt without PSG France would be down to 2 or even 1 CL spot, BUT I'd still prefer it if there wasn't PSG. The league was imo the most exciting between Lyon's dominance and PSG's, where there were several teams vying for the title … just look at the table now. All the big clubs other than PSG are struggling (except kind of maybe Saint-Etienne), and Angers would be top of the table. Worst of all is how you get the impression that the PSG players don't care about the league they play in ... they know they can steamroll anyone else in the league if they try, bit they rarely do. When people compare PSG's dominance over Ligue 1 to Bayern's/Real's and Barca's, the difference is that the latter 3 all try their best to thump the opposing team. PSG players seem like they don't respect who they play. . Meanwhile, all the great PSG players before oil came along, like Pauleta, Yepes, Armand, Ginola, will be forgotten, and PSG don't even buy French players or Ligue 1 players, only Matuidi and Aurier are really ligue 1 players. Apparently most of the dressing room don't even speak French. (I gotta take any opportunity I can to rant about PSG :P)

RE: General football "soccer" thread
If Manchester United win the title it'll be the most uninspiring EPL title winning squad ever. Even Liverpool have more eye-opening players right now
But for some reason I can see it happening, just because of the failures of everyone else. All they need to do is only drop as many points as City does it seems -

RE: General football "soccer" thread
That's interesting. Why don't we make a poll or something to get to know everyone's teams?
Except there's hundreds of commonly supported teams out there, and I think there's a limit to poll size
Bielsa resigning after losing at Caen is embarassing even if the decision wasn't influenced by the result of that game. Marseille will be in complete tatters next season (though some good names like Montella and even Klopp have been linked)
I'm genuinely convinced that with KdB City will win the title this season. They ended last season so strongly, and I'm not entirely convinced by Chelsea. Terry can't keep up his top form for too long, and that'll really expose how mediocre Cahill is, plus players like Matic, Fabregas and Costa were relatively poor for the entire second half of last season.

RE: General football "soccer" thread
So, I don't really follow the Portuguese league, but what the hell is going on there? Benfica's manager goes off to arch rivals Sporting? Maxi Pereira leaving Benfica for Porto? Must REALLY suck to be a Benfica fan, especially since Porto is having a really scary transfer window

RE: SlamDunk
Completely blown away by this series. Marathoned it in a couple of days, having never read a sports manga or watched a game of basketball in my life, and its easily one of the best series I've ever read. Every praise for it has already been said. To some extent I would've liked to see Shohoku rematch Kainan, and play against Aiwa and Meihou (Meihou in particular seemed like it was being set up for a game), but I can see how the series would've been too long that way. I also really liked Sakuragis pompadour early in the series, but its probably a bit inconvenient for the sport
Anyway, phenomenal series. If Real is even half as good I should have plenty of fun reading that, and I'm also inspired to read more sports manga as well

RE: What manga are you reading and how do you like it? What do you plan to read?
I'm currently finishing 20th Century Boys and catching up to Hunter x Hunter
20thCB is so far so good (on the 16th volume) and really hard to stop reading , at least until all the mysteries are resolved, though I do hear it's meant to get downhill at the end
Just started the Chimera ant arc with HxH, really entertaining so farIm hoping to catch up to Dark Horse's Lone Wolf and Cub omnibuses after that, which are really good and relatively cheap. I've read the first 5, and the series is super good so far but doesn't really have any indication that all the episodic chapters really lead to anything

RE: Orange is the New Black
! Really liked this season. The central plotline-thing of it was the takeover/future of the prison and how it would be run I think, and even if there isn't a defining villain or whatever I think the individual plotlines were really, really good, good enough not for it to matter. I also don't see why people are complaining about characters like Piper and Sophia doing unlikeable things, I don't think you're meant to like everything about every character. Sophia giving advice about using insecure girls for practice was poor advice, but she was trying to be the father to her son that she felt he wasn't getting by giving him that kind of advice (not sure how to word it better). I also don't think the viewers are meant to think Piper is being badass, but meant to think that Piper is trying to be badass, and doing a clumsy but funny job of it. Piper may have been really annoying during the season, but she was better than in the last two, particularly when she was with Alex and there were some really sweet moments.
! To TLC, regarding the washing sins in the lake thing, I honestly didn't notice that and im not sure if it was purposeful. I can see how it would be unbearably corny if it was the case, but I think the point of the scene was just for the prisoners to have fun, wrap up their relationships and feel free, I don't think there was meant to be some sort of poetic washing away their sins -
RE: General football "soccer" thread
I get why people don't want Qatar to have the world cup, but why not Russia? Did they get slaves to make their stadiums too? I don't see why it wouldn't be a good world cup destination, it's absolutely massive, is a footballing country and isn't unbearably hot in summer
-
RE: Chapter 790: "Heaven and Earth"
I didn't dislike this arc as much as most people, but I definitely didn't enjoy it much. It wouldn't normally bother me other than the fact that this has been the case since the timeskip and i'm afraid all arcs will end up just as unbearably long as the last 3 with exactly the same structure over and over again.
I think the arc started pretty terrifically to be fair, all the characters and set up and all that. Punk Hazard was the same. it's just tying all the plots into something coherent that's problematic
-
RE: Magi
A solid job is being done of making the warring seem very intense, a lot of mangaka's fail to do that i think. I'm getting a bit tired of every scene that is meant to be disturbing is just people drooling with white eyes (this case the controlled soldiers)

RE: Chapter 789: Lucy!!
http://readms.com/r/one_piece/789/2804/20
Obviously the tearing up and reliance on Luffy is some suspect stuff Oda needs to sort out with the women in this chapter …
But the panels at the bottom of this page make Rebecca seem like a stripper or something. It's just really weird and distracting. It's not even like teenage boys would be turned on by a tiny drawing of Rebecca showing skin, nor would it really help the tone of the chapter if they did
I'm guessing Oda is just so used to drawing women like that he doesn't really think about whether it's appropriate for every time and place in the series
ie Oda should basically keep fan service to between arc chapters and cover pages, its not hard -

Lets all remember he has another 5 years at least of phenomenal performances ahead of him
Pretty much every record will be unbreakable once he's gone -
RE: General football "soccer" thread
I want Villa to win the cup, but at the same time I fear the Europa league will completely ravage them. Relegation will be entirely possible if not likely next season if they qualify, looking at how Everton handled it while having actual depth. Southampton could actually put in a decent EL run, they have good depth in central defense and attack.
Coupe de France final too. I won't be watching it, but boy would it be funny if PSG actually lose to a ligue 2 team

RE: Magi
I'm somewhat happy I read the last two chapters at once, so I had less time to mull over the sadness of it all before Cactus Alibaba showed up and said no. The chapter two weeks ago was super, super sad though, one of the saddest I've read in any series for a while. I'd rather focus on that and give as much credit to Ohtaka as I can, because it was a really, really good chapter.

RE: Vinland Saga
Boy do I love it when I forget about a series and a whole new arc has started :D
Really good arc so far, too. Thorfinn's expression when hearing Hilde's story was fantastic, and I hope this arc takes its time in exploring the various places the crew travel through (though it they're going by sea, they'll be circling around I imagine)
Only real niggle is how boring Thorfinn is. Not as a character, but as a person. Can't imagine anyone having a normal conversation with him.
-
RE: General football "soccer" thread
Monaco really deserve a lot of credit to get this far, and were unlucky/unclinical not to beat Juventus. I think Juventus need the victory more though, Moanco's reputation has been improved greatly. Everyone will focus on the Arsenal win, but don't forget they beat Leverkusen twice and beat Zenit 2-0. while tussling with Juventus on equal footing. Such a young team too, with the money (and lack of taxes) to keep them around.
-
RE: General football "soccer" thread
I just hope he doesn't go to City. No disrespect to the club, but it feels like a poor match, and one that could see Klopp fired if he doesn't win trophies immediately. A long term project seems better, but not many big clubs need a new manager right now. I doubt Roma, Napoli or Milan could get him on board, but if they would all benefit from his style.
