RE: Animation Summer 2016
I love weak and wimpy characters who work hard to overcome their weakness like Onoda from Yowamushi Pedal, Sena from Eyeshield 21 and though not really wimpy Eichiro from Baby steps.
Maybe I can enjoy the show more since I'm not that knowledgeable about soccer, but I think complaining about realism when you watched Yowamushi Pedal is pretty dumb. I don't think its anywhere near as good as Baby Steps, but its fun and most of the complaints here sound like nitpicking more than anything else.

RE: Animation Summer 2016
I don't mind a weak protagonist. But he's weak to the point that it really makes zero sense to have him actually in the games. It's like that episode of King of the Hill where Bobby joined the track team. And the coach omly used him as a means to motivate. KotH was more mean spirited abiut why he was allowed to play, but it still felt similar to me.
It's a sports series, he'll definitely improve as time goes by. You're implying that there's no point doing something you like if you're no good at it, which is pretty narrow minded if you ask me.

RE: Animation Summer 2016
What would you say has been too harsh about most people's critiques of the main character?
What Dom said. I have no idea why people have a problem with a guy that tries to improve himself despite not being freakishly talented in some area.

RE: Animation Summer 2016
I was going to watch Days, but I've been reading/listening a lot of negative commentaries about it.
I really wonder why 1/11 didn't get an anime adaptation (instead it got a live-action movie), it seems to be way better than most of the sport animes that we have been getting lately.
And it's really sad that Giant Killing will never get a second chance after that weak adaptation years ago. The story gets more interesting, but the anime covered only the okayish parts…
I think Days is great, most people are way too harsh on the main character.

RE: Hiatus x Hiatus III: Goodnight, Sweet Princes
Gon and Killua weren't completely uninvolved though, Gon went through a character arc about the pitfalls hate leads to(hence Killua splitting up with him at the end of the whole thing) and Killua made a real difference by saving Knuckle's life several times and recovering Palm and Ikalgo(which in turn led to a lot of Meruem's character development).
If you don't focus on the Meruem stuff you'd realise quite a lot of the arc was devoted to Gon and Killua's story.

The Saiki anime is a lot of fun, but I wish the eps were longer than 4 minutes. They couldn't even get a 7 minute slot like Luluco? I guess I'll take what I can get, but 4 is just too short.
It airs every weekday, and there's a 30 minute compilation the coming Monday(and every Monday after).

RE: Berserk
Am i seeing things or does the new chapter look like there's a change in artstyle. Personally in a bad way. lines feel too thick and there isnt a lot of hatching. Was it always this plain on the characters?
Pretty sure its just bad scanlation, the preview image for the chapter looked much better than what we have.

RE: Animation Spring 2016
Mumei didn't kill Ikoma, she just stabbed her hand and set everything up so she could stay in Biba's crew.

RE: Hiatus x Hiatus III: Goodnight, Sweet Princes
From the interview it seems like its just fanfiction(with really good panelling) from Ishida Sui, he seems to have done it without any input and probably even without Togashi's knowledge. It'll be interesting if Togashi actually goes through with implementing it, but otherwise I'll treat it as non-canon.

I think there's some underlying reason to Chrollo's explanations, I don't remember him talking so much before, especially not during that first against the Zoldyck family. It just doesn't suit a logical guy like him.

RE: Game of Thrones (tv show thread)
why? ramsay is the best antagonist in this show imo, right behind the the white walkers king.
He feels to me like someone not very skilled who managed to get as far as he has by a series of lucky coincidences. The writers seem to be having fun with him but his scenes are the most tedious for me.

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
This discussion should probably stay away from the word sociopath, from what Mr Toto said we're all eventually going to fall into that category
I think Gon has a very warped mentality. I don't think his personality hasn't changed from the start but Togashi has recently shown us aspects of it that are very unnerving. The thing he has shown is that he cares about people dying as long as they know the consequences from the beginning. During the Hunter Exam he thought all these people were ready to die, so he just accepted it without hesitation.
The big problem with Togashi's narrative is that he sort of goes through the motions when describing Gon's struggles? Killua is the much more understandable character but I see Gon more as a force than a person. He holds stern and true to his beliefs, something that I find very unnatural for a kid to do. i don't think he's very much a character, because throughout the story when he changes it always feels kind of forced, like he's just going through the motions. His mood changes so dramatically its kind of scary.
I personally think that the reason for the long hiatus is that Togashi has brought Gon into a very very dark place where its difficult to write him without him being unlikeable. Killua is much easier to get attached to so I suspect why Togashi stuck with him for a while after, but after the Chimera Ant arc I can't look at Gon the same way anymore.

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
I just finished reading this and wow, the end of the ant arc was disappointing. I think the ants are evil to a certain extent, after all, they dont just devour those people but they brainwash them into their slaves, which is kind of an abomination of nature. But all their actions make sense in some way so its all good in the end.
The main problem I have with the arc is that when they invaded the castle there was so much buildup but it ended up being very draggy and meh. The butterfly guard was a conflicted idiot and the big guy's fight dragged on so long I had no idea what the hell was going on. And Pitou's fight ended with gon going berserk which she didnt quite deserve.
