i dig these answers. What's weird for me is trying to imagine a version of luffy that isn't obsessed with becoming king of the pirates (assuming he wouldn't try to be a pirate given the conditions of the real world). I think this is because Luffy is the kind of person who needs a goal to chase, and whenever he says he's gonna do something he always gets it done. Also, while he certainly seems to enjoy the freedom and sense of adventure associated with being a pirate in the OP world, I don't think he would be satisfied with that alone, i.e. just to travel the world getting in adventures with no real goal in mind. That said, its difficult at least for me to think of some aspiration in the real world with the same brilliant luffy-ness as to be king of the pirates.

What do you think Luffy would be like in the real world?
I've been thinking a lot about this, and figured I would put the question out there to other One Piece fans.
What do you think Luffy would be like if born in the modern day real world. Obviously there are some major differences between Oda's world and ours, namely the prevalence of pirates. Aspiring to be a pirate in the real world seems a heck of a lot less romantic, and it seems to me that Luffy might go another route.
Any ideas on what that might be? I'd love to hear all your ideas!
