I have a simple rule when it comes to One Piece: if i don't understand something, it's a mystery. Therefore, Jimbei used a mystery punch.

RE: Chapter 541: "The Likes of Vhich It Has Never Seen" Discussion
Mr. 1 has a big scar over his eye now–Zoro didn't give it to him, I wonder where it's from.
Maybe he got it from head-butting that guy in chapter 533.

RE: Chapter 539 "Emporio Tension Hormone" Discussion
Well, you have to admit, that's a viable summary of Vegapunk. Not only did the guy figure out how to have items absorb devil fruits, but he also turned Kuma into some kind of mega-cyborg, infused him with Kizaru's laser powers, and then made a whole sodding line of them. You gotta imagine what other awesome crap he's already made.
Incidently, i recall an SBS from WAAAAY early in the series, fielding the question of who was the smartest in One Piece. Oda answered it only in terms of who had already appeared (Ben Beckman, Nami, and Kuro, in that order, if i recall right), meaning there was going to be at least one person who'd upset that little list. I think Vegapunk would totally land right up there on number one.

Yeah, if Hil were that stacked, i think Billy would'a stuck with her.

RE: How much have you supported One Piece?
I haven't been insane about it, or nothing, but i've gotten all of the thus-far translated compilation volumes, and i plan to keep up with it. Of course, this is taking into account Viz's punishing lack of urgency in translating it, so there's not really much to keep up with.
I also bought Grand Battle (Rush) for the PS2 when i saw it, but stayed away from the other games for distaste of the translation and editing. I'd probably also buy the color walks and data books if i knew where to get them.

Whoever's fingers is on those scans, he needs to clip his nails.
As far as people joining Luffy's crew, the only viable one is Mr. 2. Mr. 3 will scarper as soon as he can, odds are Crocodile will stay where he is, with Mr. 1 following his lead, Buggy and Ace have their own crew to attend to, and Jimbei'll probably go right back to his underwater fish city, if only to attempt to defend it should the Navy or World Government get a bug up their ass about it.
As far as Hancock goes, i figure she'd end up as about the same as Clara from Skies of Arcadia: chasing after Luffy along the grand line in the name of love.

RE: Can Fleet-Admiral Sengoku fight?
Wikipedia, i guess? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Son_Wukong) I'm not sure where to find a copy of the book on the internet, so this'll have to do. You could always look for a copy at your local library, though.
Yeah, it's the respect he commands that makes me unsure of myself, although some of that could be due to his position as head of the navy. Conversely, Nami, Ussop, and Chopper usually act frightened in certain scenerios, which would lend weight to their personal sense of weakness, regardless of how good they are with climate, accuracy, and medicine, respectively. This is opposed to Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji, who tend to have a determined strength when things go bad. I suppose the others, too, but they haven't had as many grim, bloody showdowns as the three lead males. My point is his flimsy nature, as least as shown when dealing with his day-to-day matters, lends weight to the idea that he himself isn't all that powerful.
Admittedly, thinking an admiral might be weak after seeing the monster strength of Kizaru and Aokiji seems impossible, but we've yet to see how Akuinu handles things. As far as we know, he could be another semi-normal human, if not flat-out average in terms of physical power and battle ability. Besides, it could be that pirates were weaker back when Sengoku rose through the ranks, and thus strength wasn't as much of an issue.
-
RE: Can Fleet-Admiral Sengoku fight?
All in all, i'd have to go against the tide and say that he can't fight; at least, not on the same level as the Shichibukai or the stronger pirate captains. I have two decent reasons for this assuption, although i'm not sure if they match up to some of the reasons already given.
First, the navy, while a militaristic organization in nature, isn't all about strength. Captain Nezumi, that rat-fink who bargined with Arlong, was just a normal human, while Smoker, at that time of equal rank, is obviously much stronger; also in that area of the story was Commodore Purin-Purin, who's ship was easily sunk by Arlong's underlings despite his superior rank. Therefore, we can't assume that, just because Sengoku holds the highest position and at least two of the three admirals directly below him are insanely powerful, that he himself could kick their asses easily.
My other point is his attitude. He brushes aside underlying tasks when something big's on the way, and he gets annoyed at Garp when said vice-admiral acts care-free. This is the sort of attitude that seems to show up a bit in the weaker characters in One Piece, where they can't quite seem to handle the idiocy of the people around them and otherwise lose their cool. Spandam was shown the same way, being annoyed at his fellow CP9 members at times and bossing around his underlings elsewise, seemingly under the impression that his rank actually merited respect and complience. Nezumi also acted that way, at least when he was yelling about Luffy's bounty after having his ass handed to him. As opposed to the people confident in thier strength, Sengoku seems mostly anxious about these things, as if his power isnt enough.
The thing that worries me, though, is his nickname. Since Luffy was, in part, based off of Journey To The West's main character Sun Wukong, who was himself trapped under a mountain by the buddha long before the journey itself started, i can't help but feel that, at some point, Sengoku's gonna lock Luffy up by showing how he got to be called the buddha. Of course, it could also be that he was called that because of his nature, but seeing how he acts, i find that hard to imagine.

RE: Chapter 505 "Kuma" Discussion
@Fire Fist:
The only six-fingered Pirate I can think of was Westley from the Princess Bride.
This was three days ago, but i refuse to let it go. Westley, the pirate in question, was the protagonist; the six-fingered man, Count Tyrone Rugen, was the villian that Inigo Montoya swore vengeance against. They're not the same person, and therefore you know of no six-fingered pirates.
As for the Buggy vs. Law bit, i'd like to add to what Blue said: there's hidden powers to these fruits, and i feel that, with enough time or maybe plot twists, Buggy will be able to split himself apart smaller and smaller, perhaps even to the point of splitting down to the molecule. Then there's be millions upon millions of bits to him. He could turn a hand into virtually mist, send it inside someone, and reform it, expanding and busting said organ. Admittedly, this is probably going a little (more like a lot) too far with the idea, but my point is there's definitely hidden potential to Buggy's power.
On that note, i'm now thinking of a spear made of Buggy's limbs, with a hand at the end holding a dagger as the spearhead.

RE: Chapter 505 "Kuma" Discussion
We were not talking about how he would attack, we were talking about if anyone not using a metal weapon would be at an advantage over someone that has.
If someone was using throwing daggers he would obviously be at a disadvantage compared to anyone else versus Kidd but we have to assume the poster meant a single melee weapon.
Ah, i see, now. Wasn't really paying attention to the conversation before that, and though you meant benefits that Kidd would have in using his power to control weapons. Then i kinda thought of him controlling, like, a dozen flying daggers, and kinda ran in that direction.
I suppose it's be a matter of strength, then. If the wielder could use sheer might to over-come Kidd's magnetic powers, he could probably fight evenly. Although, considering the cannon ball, this means the wielder would have to swing the weapon faster than a round of cannon fire for it to have the sheer might to connect. I suppose he could also get close enough that Kidd wouldn't be able to slow and stop the weapon in time.

RE: Chapter 505 "Kuma" Discussion
From what I understood the guy I responded to was talking about attraction and repelling only, no uber controll ala magneto.
and kidd already has weapons so he doesn't need to steal a single sword. with multiple he can make that huge arm thing again
High-speed throwing daggers, then? I'm mostly just taking pot-shots, tossing out whatever comes to mind.
I think there's a bit more to it than just attraction and repelling; otherwise, i doubt he would of been able to lift the half-ton of iron he had on his arm. Unless he has insane physical power in addition to basic magnetics.

RE: Chapter 505 "Kuma" Discussion
Someone wanted a Mediafire version of 505, right?
http://www.mediafire.com/?j42m2ztjzxu
besides what good would attracting or repelling a single sword do? it would only disarm the opponent.
You could use the sword against the guy you took it off of, maybe. Imagine having a dozen swords floating around and attacking, with him controlling them. He'd be his own infantry unit.
anyone else find it odd that Law has 6 fingers on his left hand?
Clearly, it's so he can give the super finger.

that sounds the most reasonable to me. Kokoro better be careful (lol).
Well, the price guide says she'd be worth about ten million, being a split-fin female and all, but i can't help but feel the auctioneer would end up going down to a hundred belli just to ship her off.

RE: Chapter 498 "The 11 Supernova" Discussion
I doubt we're going to see match ups like that anytime soon. The lady made pretty clear that these are Luffy's rivals, and the prime crop of the new generation. While some of them will likely be defeated during the journey, most of them will probably end up in the New World
Well, you've got a point that there's probably not going to be the typical "shatter their dreams and leave them a broken, empty husk of a person" that usually happens, but i still think there's gonna be a match up and maybe some kind of a fight on the island. It'd certainly lead to a longer rivalry.
Hell, this might even be a point where Zoro'll get a bounty raise from fighting and jump back up to being more than half of Luffy's bounty; i find anything less than that to be a little disappointing, but that's because i'm a Zoro fan.
-
RE: Chapter 498 "The 11 Supernova" Discussion
I think i can see some of the match-ups coming.
Luffy will fight Kid, partially because he has the highest bounty and partially because:
Zoro will fight Killer, as Killer is Kid's fighting man, and it'd work as a captain/fighter two-on-two match.
Sanji will "fight" Bonney by cooking for her until she's full.
Chopper will fight Law simply because he's some kind of a doctor.
Brook might fight Urouge, with the monk attempting to purify the undead.
Nami might fight Basil, in a clash of elements (although that's really more of a hold-over from my attempting to fit Nami into Ragnarok Online's class system). And the rest i don't have a clue on. Also: Captain Kid lulz.

…oh, god damn it. I have shamed myself as an intellegent human being. Again, no less.

RE: Chapter 490 "Getting There Again" Discussion
Jumping past all the blasted replies, i'd like to put my vote in that Duval is Morgan; after all, he crushed the cup with his left hand, not his right(axe) hand. More over, Morgan had a good life going until Luffy and Zoro kicked his ass; as opposed to Kuro who had one of his plans ruined rather than his life on the whole, while Krieg owes his failure to Mihawk and Gin in addition to Luffy and Sanji, so he wouldn't blame Luffy alone.
Also, i doubt Camie will join the crew; unlike the others, she doesn't really have anyhting to offer. Besides, she'd probably want to stay with Hachan, and i really doubt he'd join the crew. Otherwise, they might as well go back to Skypeia and take Conis with them, as they'd apparently of decided to take anyone they can find.

RE: Three Arrested in Japan for File-Sharing Shōnen Manga
As long as something has to be paid for, there'll always be a few people willing to make it free, and about ten-thousand willing to download it. This is kind of a futile effort, because the next guys to do it will learn to be more careful.
Besides, i figure if Shueisha's still making money off thier products (or other manga publishers for that matter), which they are 'cause i really doubt there's that many people gaining access to these pirated comics, they don't have all that much of a reason to complain.
Furthermore, i think this is kind of justified for foreign countries, 'cause i know the Viz official translation won't get to this end of One Piece for the better part of a decade, unless they really get their shit in gear and crank out translated tankobons on a monthly basis until it's fallen in step with the Japanese releases.

RE: Chapter 455 "King of the Depths: The Shichibukai - Gekko Moria" Discussion
Oh, wait. Shit. I was thinking of something else. So much for my gound-breaking, insightful remark. Well, still, i think Shanks is a zombie of some kind.
Incidently, onemoment's comment got me to thinking about 'A Nightmare Before Christmas', and i have to say that Brook reminds me of Jack Skellington, through the obvious skeleton similarity, the body shape, the dark outfit, and the generally jovial, carefree nature, and Cindry reminds me of Sally, what with the scars and being Dr. Hogback's assistant/creation.

RE: Chapter 455 "King of the Depths: The Shichibukai - Gekko Moria" Discussion
Even though taking pot shots at the identity of 900 seems to of stopped, i'm going to offer one last suggestion: Shanks. He seems like a viable option to me because way back in volume 4's SBS, Oda never distinctly stated Shanks' current age, rather mentioning his age when he was in Luffy's village.
As for Moria's face, i don't think it's a mask, if only because i can't see where it might end. Hell, maybe Moria actually has two heads, something like that guy from Total Recall.
