see this guy? he wants you to vote Hiruluk. if you don't he'll remove your leg.
Actually, I'm quite sure he'd say Hiruluk is an idiot for drinking the poison.

Law is easily the most awesome of the other supernovas, even if it is just because, like Luffy, he also doesn't care too much if someone he wants to pick a fight with has a higher bounty than he does - I've always been annoyed with people in the manga who blindly think of bounty as an insurmountable ranking of power.
He did? The first time we saw him he was like "I said it now, no regrets, I'm ready to die for my conviction" right before Luffy blocked an incomming attack from Alvida. The last time we saw him he was like "I said it now, no regrets, I'm ready to die for my conviction" right before Shanks blocked and incomming attack from Akainu. His character is literally the same it was more then 500 chapters ago.
I think you're totally right. Standing up to a third rate pirate is pretty much the same as standing up to the world government.
Well, there are some minor differences, like standing up to Alvida was more out of self-interest (he had not much to lose, wasn't such a great life he was leading) and he had much, much more to lose than to gain, standing up to the world government (likely to be considered a traitor, while he was growing to be quite the up-and-coming young marine). Or that this time he's going against the top of the marines while he was honestly idolizing the marine from the very beginning.
But none of that really matters anyway, crybaby cried. We can't have anybody crying in One Piece - which, by the way, people who don't want Luffy to win, this year, should be able to put to good use. And he ruined the big war in doing so. Not Shanks who made a sudden appearance and put an end to the war. Coby.
Guess I'll share my personnal opinion on this, too… Don't know if anyone else has already addressed the possibility or not, and don't feel like reading 280 pages just to find out, so meh :P
I think there's a good possiblity Brooke was the latest nakama to join the straw hats - for two reasons.
From very early in the journey, Luffy's been saying they should get a musician. That they needed a navigator, a cook, a doctor and a shipwright was only decided when the need for it became all too clear, right before they'd actually get someone to fill the opening. The need of a sniper or an archeologist was never even mentioned before they joined. I believe Oda's been foreshadowing that the crew would be "complete" once a musician joined the Straw Hats.
My other reason for having these thoughts, are the events on the Shabondy archipelago, id est, the falling apart. If the straw hats had found their way back to each other in no time, I wouldn't really think of this as much of a point, but by now, it's been over 50 chapters since they broke apart, and it doesn't look like they'll be rejoining right away. It strikes me as though the shattering of the crew is something to do, only once the crew is complete, and they then have to find each other again.
I am well aware that both my reasons are hardly evidence, and my gut feeling can be off from time to time, and I'm definitely not going to announce my thoughts as the one and only truth. It's just the impression I'm getting ^^
It's obvious, innit? Dupal is Red Leg Zeff! After Luffy took away Sanji, Baratie had pretty rubbish food to serve. People ain't gonna sail to the middle of nowhere to eat louzy cooking!
But seriously, I'd go for Bellamy.
I originally guessed Morgan, but some people have made a good point when saying his axe would get mentioned.
I agree that Krieg's life was ruined by Mihawk, there was nothing there to ruin when he bumped into the Strawhat Crew >_<
And well, Bellamy for all the reasons mentioned before. He did get kicked out of Don's New Age of Piracy or whatever it's called because of Luffy. He also got pretty much beaten up, it's fair to assume his face is enough of a mess to want to hide it. Of course, it looks like Bellamy was killed, but has Oda ever killed a named character we haven't only seen in flashbacks?
@Lobster:
Sure they were
Robin Vivi
Franky Wiper
They all seemed 100% enemy, at the very start. (well Robin was questionable)But still, when we first saw them, we had no clue that they wouldn't stay as enemies
Enemies, yes, but I can't really call any of them a big anti-hero like Picollo in Dragon Ball. Those would be people like Buggy, Kuro, Don Krieg, Arlong, Crocodile, Eneru, Spandam, Moria, Blackbeard, … Robin and Vivi were mere underlings, and even though Franky was the head of the Franky Family, he had to share his arc with CP9, so he couldn't be called a major villain either.
Thanks, BF, and thanks again, kudou for the trans. So cool :o
Aokiji thanks to his ice powers is actually hundreds of years old.
And he offed Odz the first time 'round.
Er… Dudes... Couldn't that be like, Dalton? You know... The bison devil fruit user who lives on Drum Island? It could be fucked up perspective (Oda is king of weird perspective which causes confusion such as the vast belief Moria and Kuma are about equally big), a strange mirage or something could be terribly wrong with him. I'll grant that it looks a bit big around the waist, but it seems a plausable explanation to me.
I am actually kind of surprised no one has yet noted they have met the seventh Shichibukai back in the third folume already, chapter twenty-two. On page nine of saidc hapter, Luffy gets shot by a small character called Gaimon (or Caiman) who is carrying his own vessel around - though one usually mistakes it as a treasure chest. He's even got a cock 'n bull story for anyone who asks about this! When Luffy tries to pull him out, he fails miserably. That is not because he's stuck, he has a devil fruit power that can drain Luffy's strength. After his effort, he sends Luffy up a mountain where he himself unknowingly deposits the drained power in an empty treasure chest. We see a teardrop in Caiman's eye, presumably because his plot has succeeded once again. Caiman has gathered a lot of devil fruit powers like this over the years, which he can later on use by switching treasure chest. Unfortunately, his stock recently got all used up, so he left the Grand Line to fill up. Luffy asks him to join, but Caiman has not got enough with just one filled box, so he declines. Maybe he is on his way now though, if he's tricked three more people, next to Luffy and Buggy. Maybe he's got Alvida's powers too. Time will tell.
Wanze will find a job at Baratie. His awesome cooking will attract Mihawk. However, the Shichibukai came at a bad time, when Wanze is ill with the flu. Mihawk suffers the same fate, as Wanze still cooked his dinner. Zoro will be strongest swordman of the world for a few days, since Mihawk will be too proud not to fight Zoro in this condition.
And I think it is obvious the two unknown Yonkou are Johnny and Yosaku, who have heard about Luffy long time ago from Buggy and decided to check him out. Not willing to reveil their identities yet, they kept in the background, but they did examine Luffy quite a bit. Personally, I admire Oda for resisiting the temptation of making their true nature more obvious, by letting them reenter to story at a later point, or making them do something really awesome. You just know Johnny could have made Arlong explode by looking at him, but he kept in line by putting on those sunglasses.
Brooke is in fact Bleach's Kurosaki Ichigo-kun's hollow mask that begun to lead a life on his own. Crocus is Abarai Renji come to find this villain. Unfortunately, trespassing from the Bleach universe to the One Piece world has aged Renji a bit, and Zabimaru transformed into a giant whale. The real reason Laboon keeps crashing into the Red Line is the confusion remembering being a monkey causes him.
I doubt there's a gold standard, really. Luffy can get upgrades through his gears, but it's a mechanism that's pretty unique for rubbermen. I doubt for example Alvida or Bon clay-sama can get anything comparable. Maybe it's creativity… Maybe there is no such thing as "mastering a devil fruit", only such things as "mastering gum gum fruit" or "mastering kame kame fruit", because I'm not sure every fruit leaves much room for individual mastery - and I'm thinking especially zoans here. Fearsome as Rob Lucci might have been, shifting back and forth to that big kitty doesn't seem to be such a mindblowing task.
The kanji for "Quatre Mano" is "Four Trees". I'm wondering if there's something that sounds like "Mano" that means "trees" in other languages? Unless Oda is implying her arm is strong like trees…..which could be the case now that I think about it......
Well, I thought Oda was making a pun or something, since the composed arms she's making are pretty much the size of trees. They're easy 5 meters long (about eight regular arms long, times 75 cm or something per arm would make 6 meters).
@Battle:
z0mG! I think I prefer the zombie warthog Laura!
Yeah, somehow the warthog form looked better. Creepy.
Hurrah, it's out ^^
Thx Battle Franky (and JoJo)
Well, yeah, you could call it lying, but Crocus really just said that because he firmly believed it. Yeah, I know, I can't argument how that is any different from him firmly believing Brooke's crew were pirates. It just feels different ^^
most of this weeks chapter will be oz fighting and luffy learns morias weakness
I kind of hope we don't find out, yet. Haven't seen enough crazy theories what this weakness could be ^_^
Edit: My own crazy theory is he's vulnurable to blacklights. Blacklights are kinda cool.
@Fire Fist:
It could mean that Brooke and his crew were merchants, or pirates hired to deliver a shipment of Booze to or from a guy named Bink, or from a country called Bink, but they failed after being cornered and killed by another pirate crew 50 years ago.
Not that it really matters, but just for the record, it's safe to assume Brooke's crew were pirates. According to Stephen's script Crocus states, back in chapter 103: "A ship of jolly pirates came sailing down Reverse Mountain, and following them was a baby whale. That whale was Laboon." We know this was Brooke's crew (unless there are two Laboons), and I don't see a reason for Crocus to lie, or to call them pirates without any proof.
Great chapter, glad you dropped the horrid language from the past few releases.
@Fire Fist:
The last Shichibukai is probably this guy:
http://groups.msn.com/onepiecemanga/onepiecechapter19.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=418
And before you say, "Oh, he's just some insignificant background character,", the same could be said about Marco and Jess when they first appeared.
I'm rather rooting for that dude to be one of the two remaining Yonkou ^_^
As for the final Shchibukai, I hope it's a really small guy, just to break the streak of big bigger biggest opponents. He'll go by the name of Stede Mammoth.
Oda stated long time ago that (roughly my memory) … Luffy has a birthday and celebrates it every year but nonethelesss always stays at the age of 17 (or what age he is)... Imo you can´t say any clearer that you are not into a realistic timeframe!
I think Oda was just talking about Luffy being seventeen for over ten years already, even though in his mind, every May fifth, Luffy uncorks a bottle of champagne and has Sanji bake a big cake. I doubt he was making any remarks on the timeframe inside the One Piece world.
I agree that Bear probably thinks Blackbeard as very dangerous, and that that is the reason he doubts his becoming Shichibukai is for the good of the balance. Instead, from what I've read, it appears he think this assignment is for the worse. Stronger than necessary does not have to mean it's bad.
Somehow I'm thinking a Perona cover story will be next. It may be a bit early, but the Gedatsu cover story also came very shortly after his defeat.
I surely hope Oda's not gonna do anything like that. Taking ten years to draw out two months or so in the One Piece-world and then making some time jumps just doesn't feel right. Oda is showing how eventful the trip is, and then having a few years in which nothing notable happens… I don't think so, Bob.
And there has been a lot of discussion on how long they've been sailing, I'm sure that if you look around on the forum, you'll find something. I think the most convincing argument to me was someone who had shown nighttime frames from all through the series, showing little more than a singular lunar cycle. But am too lazy to fetch it for ya, sorry.
@Kaimei-Karasuhebi:
Who would name their kid GARP, DRAGON, HELMEPPO, LUFFY, BLUENO, FOXY, BUGGY, CUTTY FLAM OR TONY TONY CHOPPER?
Oh wait, unlike One Piece, our world has such creative parents that name their kids after…...Dollars and Internet.....:getlost:
Bit off-topic, but I found out a few weeks ago that somewhere in Eastern Europe it's not unusual to name your kid "Dad don't kill me" - or the translated version of that, at least. I think Garp, Dragon and so on are pretty normal names compared to that.
@Kaimei-Karasuhebi:
and funny enough, Sengoku seems to hate the idea of relying on them to maintain the order…
Well, that's a shocker, isn't it? Not being too keen on relying on someone who you know will just kick you when you're down.
The only reason they might do everything the World Government wants them to, as a group, is because Bear is a real government dog. I bet if there's something he can't do and the others don't want to do, the World Government gets one big fat "Fuck you".
What conditions are you talking about? They do exactly what was proposed by the World Government, and are given the rewards. They are as much of a part of the World Government as anything.
No, they don't… They simply don't. They don't even show up when the World Government calls a meeting. That's not doing exactly what was proposed by the World Government. That's doing what is proposed by the World Government if they feel like it.
Well, the World Government has some control over the Shichibukai, but not enough to say the Shichibukai can be counted as law abiding citizens. Besides, the World Government is an instance which has some control over the Shichibukai and the marine, but neither are directly part of it. Them five old geezers, they are directly part of the World Government.
If the Shichibukai were part of the World Government, they wouldn't stab it in the back, given half a chance, would they? Because that is the most important reason the Marines won't go after the Yonkou. Even if they'd win, they'd be left crippled and the Shichibukai would take over. It's not even a reliable alliance, more an understanding. You round up some pirates for us, we leave you alone. It would be like giving the mafia free reign in some neighbourhood if they promise not to kill anyone and maintain order a bit.
I'm pulling for the alive-side here.
First off, Oda doesn't like killing people. No denying it.
I also think the World Government would be more willing to accept Blackbeard's application with a live Ace - it's clearer Blackbeard was indeed the one to subdue him, they have a chance to witness what a tough oponent Blackbeard brought in, they have a chance to question him on Whitebeard, … I know the wanted-posters say dead or alive, but that's for the bounty only. Shichibukai-status is not included in the bounty.
And for a final point, it might add a bit to the unstability of the One Piece-world. Sure, Whitebeard would be pissed to hear Ace is killed by that filthy traitor, and would probably come after him for it, but like this there's a chance he'll attack the marines instead to free Ace. Mind that the world is already a bit unstable with a fresh Shichibukai that inspires hate in two of the Yonkou, who will probably do as he pleases and betray the World Government as soon as he feels the need, with a rather irrelevant pirate crew barging into Enies Lobby less than two weeks before and taking down CP9, with piracy blooming ever so much. I think if ever there was a time for one of the Yonkou to charge the marines themselves, it is now.
It's still feasible, sure, but not implied. Personally, I doubt Luffy and Blackbeard will encounter very quickly
It's just the way that Kuma said the world government were worried. Moria guessed it would be two Shichi vs the Mugiwara and then Kuma said that he weren't the one that accepted the mission. I think it's Blackbeard that's on his way.
Hmmmm… Well, depending on the translation Kuma says "I did not receive any orders" (nickel65 in this thread) or "I have no explicit orders to provide you with backup." (cnet128 on MangaHelpers). I know the Franky House scan says he didn't accept the mission, but frankly, I wouldn't trust to go by that one, but rather label it as poor translating (edit: id est, they mean "That's not my mission" or something) ^^
I actually like all the strawhats. Go fanboyism.
But if I have to choose, my favorite is probably Zoro. Because he has three swords. Count 'em. Three! He's chopping people to bits with a sword he holds in his mouth! Hah! You got any idea of how agile you have to be to pull that off? But well, aside from that… Yeah, he can be totally kick-ass, way more than Luffy I think, but also have that buffoonish thing mentioned before.
Least favorite... I can see why some people pick Nami here, and I do agree Oda has to make her a tad more important - which I feel he's doing right now without having her fighting, but I'm not gonna go to deep into this right now. However, I'd have to say Chopper. He seems a decent fighter to me, so why is he such a scaredy-cat? Granted, Nami and Usopp fit that shoe as well, but, well, I haven't got such high expectations from them, combatwise.
So Zoro powers up with each sword he collects. interesting, lame but interesting.
The Moria/Kuma conversation was very telling. a lot of hidden data in there worth over analysing. Especially the fact that there's apparently another Shichibuiki on the way. And also that Kuma is so obedient. Also to fall into Kuma's plan, you seem to have to actually want to go where he sends you.
I rather thought, when Moria said the World Government sends two Shichibukai to deal with the Strawhats, he was talking about Bear and himself, so that wouldn't mean yet another is on the way. The last point is something I haven't thought about yet, though you may be on to something there.
Then she's got some serious hanging tits o_O
Poison. (Let him try to breathe)
Fire. (Ashes don't fight back)
Or a nice stabbity through the chest if he's caught off guard or touched by Blacky ^^
I (also) think the Yami Yami Fruit is the most powerful, although I do have some questions with the powercancelling. Suppose he were to fight Buggy, and cancelled Buggy's power when he was in a million little pieces… Do They suddenly spring back together, or is it he can't sepparate any further? Same goes for Luffy, if he's totally stretched... It could work like some sort of enhanced catapult.
For the other categories... Well, for zoan it really is a question of which is the most fearsome creature to have a devil fruit. I can very well imagine if there's a dragon fruit it's more powerful than wolf or whatever. And I suppose, since Luffy is our hero, the most powerful Paramecia is Gomu Gomu. Although I really like Buggy's too.
If Bear would teleport all of the Strawhats, they'd be sent to prison at once. The only thing they need to find out is which cell everyone is in.
Been a while, a long while, since my last post here, and after this chapter… Djeez, don't know where to begin...
Alright, let's start with Blackbeard. I'm with the ones prompting he might be the "final boss". Well, maybe not the real final, but damn close to it - unless Oda plans to job him for someone big time, but else there's no point in making him out so awesomely terifying. He's most likely defeated the ever so terific Ace, because else he would have been returned to Whitebeard. He's got that devil fruit that is unique and powerful, even among logia. And evidentially he got quite a rep in short notice as he skipped the incredible bounty part and went straight for Shichibukai. Of course, all of these are related - duh - but Oda has made quite the man of this fellow. And his personality and Luffy's are very alike (has few nakama, finds dreams very important, is a bit glutonous, likes to fight and I doubt he's any more scared of death than Luffy is). Of course there are differences, but then again, he is a villain.
Now, Enel, will we see him again? It seems possible, after all, what use is his army if he's gonna be trapped in outer space for the remainder of his days anyway? But I doubt it'll come anytime soon, if at all.
Now, on to the discussion of this arc, and what will happen in there...
It's a tough nut to crack since most scenario's I think of are rather... Well, they all have their drawbacks.
My guess is Luffy will run into Barty, and will only just dodge his hand when Nami yells out to him, after which they - shock - fight.
In the mean while, the crew takes down Odz fairly easily now they got the salt, and battle Moria in yet another grand many versus one fight (which I wouldn't really like), or Moria can't escape and is subdued seconds after Odz, maye because he's trapped inside Odz's body (but then we wouldn't really see Moria fight).
After Luffy suddenly regains his shadow - which is probably after Moria is defeated, since his shadow would probably return to Moria first - Bear realizes there's trouble there, and warps to his colleague. They both escape Thriller Bark and the fight between Luffy in the big guy remains unsettled, leaving an infuriated Luffy.
I'm predicting an unsettled fight because, well, like some others have said, two defeated Shichibukai at once seems a bit much. But it may not be. Bear and Moria might both get their ass served before Bear makes a run for it, with Moria as deadweight. I'm sure the World Government can cover up something that happened on a vessel somewhere in the middle of nowhere, cut off from the rest of the world.
We would have to force Oda to watch the 4shit dubs, to witness the monster he inadvertently created. <<
I think he'd die, just to spin in his grave more than enough to fully supply a mediocre sized country for all their energy needs.
What a dumb theorie… how can something as stupid and childish as the dbf be the core of the will of d? and what exactly do the "other" D's have to do with games? silence
Er… Just because the DBF has been named after Davy Jones, doesn't meant that the DBF embodies all Davy Jones is about. Davy Jones is like, one of the biggest legends of the high seas in the real world, so why wouldn't he be more represented in the manga than by a mere game?
Edit: personally, I like the idea. D's gotta mean something, so might as well be Davy Jones.
I guess that the Marine HQ is the strongest of the three. They are the only one that isn't devided. The Shichibukai and the Yonkou consist of very powerful pirates, who may be stronger as groups, but they aren't groups! They are eleven individuals.
The Shichibukai are seven pirates who are tolerated by the World Government, and consequently the Marine HQ, because of what the world is like: every fifth dimwit becomes a pirate in the current age, and it's simply too much to handle because of the sheer numbers. So they ask some of the most fearsome pirates to help them handle the problem. This doesn't mean they can't handle these pirates, they most likely could handle each pirate seperately if they would spend all their resources on that one pirate. Of course, some of them try to scheme in the dark to overthrow the WG, in the course of which they would fight the Marine HQ. But the reason they keep it hidden is obvious: as it is, they can't go against the Marine HQ just yet.
Then there are the Yonkou. As devided as the Shichibukai, though apparently tolerated by the Marine HQ as well, as they decide not to attack them. Of course, there is, once again, the argument they can't focus all their energy on one pirate and let everyone else do as they please. Not even if it concerns one of these pirates! Just imagine the Marine HQ assigning just enough troups all around as strictly necessary, and committing everyone else to take down one of the Yonkou. They might succeed, but the other Yonkou might see it fit to combine forces if they feeled pressured, and even if they didn't, the Marine would already suffer great losses, and the balance of the entire world would be overthrown.
I'm guessing Aqua Laguna occurs when there is perigee accompagnied by a new moon. The moon being closer to the world (and thus pulling harder), and the sun and the moon pulling the water in the same direction, would enhance each other. This would make it plausible for Aqua Laguna to occur every year. In the real world the two coincide every fourteen months or so.
@Black'cap:
What…. Robin is... an official member... And Buddy.... Why did you leave Luffy out... Robin is the 7th straw hat... Franky is 8....
Well, if you go by the chapter names, sabret00the has a point. One I've been trying to make in the chapter discussion thread, but noone seemed to care too much ^^
Morgan arc:
Chapter 6 - The First Person: Zoro (1) joins
Buggy arc:
Nami (2) oins
Kuro arc:
Usopp (3) joins
Don Krieg arc:
Chapter 68 - The Fourth Person: Sanji (4) joins
Arlong arc:
Nami (2) leaves
Chapter 94 - The Second Person: Nami (2) joins
Alabasta saga:
Chopper (5) joins
Robin (6) joins
WG saga:
Robin (6) leaves
Usopp (3) leaves
Chapter 439 - The Third and the Seventh Person: Usopp (3) and Franky (7) join
Obviously, Oda planned on Usopp pulling this shit long time ago, which is why there was no The Third Person chapter before the Grand Line. What's worrying is the lack of a The Fifth Person chapter and the fact that, even now, the hasn't been The Sixth Person neither. This might mean Chopper of all people will leave one day, and Robin is still uncertain.
A different explanation would include Vivi in the numbering as fifth, since she has sailed with them for a while and has become their nakama. Then Franky might end up departing for a short while.
A very long post was here
Well, you do seem to have put some effort in this, and I wish I could say more about it than "Very nice done". I think you are very right, and the only thing that's missing is some detail on where the Skypeia fight fits in the whole picture. But I didn't really like that fight all that much, so I don't care ^^
I guess Zoro is the better fighter out of the couple. Of course, this guess is biased as I'm a sucker for Zoro's complete and utter awesomeness, but anyway… I guess he could take down Bon Clay fairly easily, and I doubt Jyabura would have that much to go against him - though that is mere speculation. I doubt Sanji would be able to kick Das to smithereens, being all metal, and getting a hit on Kaku would prove difficult, Kaku being able to fend Sanji's footwork off with his swords.
I do however doubt the gap is very big, Sanji would probably be able to take on most of the people Zoro can take, and perhaps some Zoro can't. But I do reckon there is a gap - and there needs to be. Sanji adds a cook to the crew, whereas Zoro really is just a muscle. Somebody who's sole purpose in the crew is to fight, should be damn good at it!
