RE: Chapter 610: "The Fortune Teller Madame Shirley" Discussion
@_Meh_:
It is interesting that someone besides Hawkins can make predictions about the future. It certainly changes the discussion about whether or not fortune-telling was related to his Ability. But enough about that, on to the over-analysis of Luffy's speech patterns!
"Do you poop?" - A vulgar question to be sure, but with a surprising hidden meaning: Only a real, living creature can poop. Luffy is a dreamer at heart, but his simplicity mires him in a world of pragmatic answers. To someone like Nami, Reverse Mountain was an incredible phenomenon, stretching the laws of physics while at the same time reinforcing them. To Luffy, it was just a "Mystery Mountain". But he truly wants to live in a world where living skeletons and mermaids aren't just figments of his imagination. And just imagine his dismay if he were to ask "Are you real?" only to be told "No." The poop question, even if answered in the negative, is a much easier let-down.
"Don't take meat lightly!"- For someone that regretted befriending the beasts of the jungle simply because he missed out on eating them, this phrase shows a remarkable degree of respect for living things. Meat doesn't grow on trees- although there are experiments underway, I'm told. Meat is processed from the bodies of animals. In order for there to be meat to consume, a living creature must die. I'm no vegetarian, but I try not to take meat lightly.
I want some of what you smoked/injected/consumed when you wrote this post.

RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
i ignore my grades for last term cause I didn't do well, must mean the term never happened. if only it worked like that, too bad.
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
omfg guys luffy used haki in his previous fights. That's cheating and not allowed so I am going to assume that the possibility of him using haki before he used CoC is not possible. Otherwise, it totally ruins the story cause you know Luffy totally cheated.
Honestly, it really doesn't make a difference since he wasn't at all aware that he was using some sort of magical power. I don't really understand what this mean but everyone seems to love using this phrase with alterations on this forum so let me use it; "it is a shounen so the main character having some amazing power isn't all that ridiculous."
Well I do understand what shounen means but it irks me that it is used as an excuse to explain everything that is not ordinary to the story.

RE: Chapter 609: "Adventure on Fishman Island" Discussion
! @Reyairia:
! > I just really doubt that Oda would go so far to associate slavery and seafolk so much if slavery could affect any random person and there wasn't any difference between seafolk slavery and human slavery. Yeah, the Tenryuubito can probably enslave any random person they want - as seen by the scene with Charlos and Zoro - but it's probably a bit different since Charloss didn't call that chick a slave but a wife though the two are unlikely to be different past the term.In Tequila Wolf Robin was told:
"The people working here are either criminals or else the citizens of countries that refused to join the World Government… well... I guess you'd call them slaves."
http://www.mangafox.com/manga/one_piece/v54/c524/6.html
They're not just random people who the Tenryuubito chose to enslave, but specifically criminals and non-world government countries. Knowing the WG and how it behaves with what it considers justice (just look at Aka Inu) - the fact that it considers itself justice and nothing else, the fact that the institution itself has no problem going against innocent civilians if there's even a minimisal possibility they could be a threat against it's power, is it really out of the question that the WG would consider people from those countries criminals and encourage killing and slavery against them? After all, they did do something similar with Robin.
Meanwhile when it comes to fishmen and merfolk they're all fair game regardless of the fact that FI and the WG are allied because of the discrimination against specifically fishmen/merfolk. Jinbe said that before WB came and declared FI his territory the place was a mess of slave traders, pirates, and marines chasing after them. It doesn't matter whether a fishman is a pirate or was just a civilian the WG still turns to look the other way if one is captured.
My guess is that the minority racism probably applies to giants, long-arms, etc. though with giants it might be that Elbaf is a pirate island similar to Amazon Lily - not to mention far more difficult to take down and capture - as for long-arms and long-legs they're probably not as sought out as fishmen since they're not much more valuable than a regular human. Also there's probably very few of them that show up at Saobody since so far the only one we've seen outside of Brook's training thingo was Apoo.
Plus, fishman island is right next to Saobody so that probably helps a lot in the slave trade with them.http://www.mangafox.com/manga/one_piece/v51/c499/18.html
Edit: "Apparently they sell mer-people and fish-people even if they're not bad guys."
http://www.mangafox.com/manga/one_piece/v51/c499/18.html
Implies that to be a human slave you have to be a "bad guy" in some form or the other. At least in the WG's eyes. That's all nice speculation and such, however, we clearly saw that tenryuubitou can enslave or capture any person they like, prime example is the chick who has to become a wife to the fat dragon. There is nothing to suggest that the government only allows "bad people" to become slaves otherwise it helps them out. There has been nothing to suggest this. I'm sure a lot of the auction house stock were people who the bounty hunters thought would bring them a lot of money and not just people who are criminals.

RE: Questions That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread
Dude, it was mentioned several times that Amazon Lily and Impel Down were in the Calm Belt.
If it's clear on the map, then it's clear on the map where they are.I think it is quite clear and no one is arguing that these three islands are undoubtedly on the calm belt. What he asked was whether it was between East blue and GL or South blue and GL (I think they are on the same side of the Red line)

RE: Chapter 609: "Adventure on Fishman Island" Discussion
I disagree.
I think it was shown and said that slaves were made up of captured minorities (fishmen, giants, long-arms, etc), pirates, and people from countries that refused to join the WG. That's why it was pointed out in Saobody that mermaids and fishmen could be sold as slaves even if they didn't do anything wrong. Considering the WG's antics, it wouldn't surprise me if they branded any non-allied islands' inhabitants as criminals and thus fair game for slave-traders.Chapter, page, and panel(s) please. Let me tell you right not, this is simply not true, but feel free to prove me wrong.
-
RE: Chapter 609: "Adventure on Fishman Island" Discussion
Well, I don't think that FI is a member of the WG (since their inhabitants, the mermaids can be sold as slaves). I wonder what the note Jinbe left is all about.[stuffs]
You do realize that humans can be sold as well as slaves right? Even if they aren't pirates or outlaws. To suggest that a territory isn't part of the WG simply because the inhabitants can be sold as slaves would exclude a lot of territories from the WG.
I'm sure it is quite clear that the fishman island is not part of the WG but it isn't because the inhabitants are traded as slaves.

RE: Chapter 609: "Adventure on Fishman Island" Discussion
I think everyone agrees that you are allowed to critizise when there is a valid criticism. Your point wasnt. Simple math.
You obviously don't understand what math is if you think that made any kind of sense.
You were making a big deal out of a little detail in a manga series. It is like critizisng if a person walks down stairs rather than up. It is a point that really doesnt matter it happened and most people deal with it because it doesnt really matter, because it is the end product that matters, rather than this little point. You are allowed to critizise when a big event in the story that affects the story rather than a little nosebleed.
This is hardly nothing which is pissing people off even more. They just stole the prince's ship to save sanji. Albeit, the prince's are going to be friendly characters. If you think this nosebleed shit "doesn't matter" then you should know each chapter 3-4 panels are dedicated for sanji to have a nosebleed cause nami was breathing.
Also, who the fuck are you to decide whether people are allowed to critique something or not.
Example of big events:
Blackbeard having two fruits or ace being rogers son.
[blahbity blah, I'm a tool who doesn't know what he's talking about]
I hate when people take a little event and try to make a big deal about it to just critizise it as much as when people take one chapter and critizise it because they are just small spots in the whole story. This is not a small detail to this arc, since that is where we are at this point let's use the forum for the purpose it was designed. To discuss the manga. mm'kay? Also, it is interesting you are saying all of this bullshit about not saying we didnt like a chapter considering this is a chapter thread.
-
RE: Chapter 609: "Adventure on Fishman Island" Discussion
Just because none have done it before doesn't make it wrong. If a pervert can get a nose bleed than nothing stopping a pervert that's been with homo's for two years from having a really huge nose bleed. Whats the problem? If you think One Piece is silly than stop reading it.
Nice. As well as:
It's still the best out there so STFU.
That's totally not what I said people act like when someone criticizes a retarded thing in this story.
Yea I got a nosebleed when I was nervous. When I first started high school I got a nose bleed. You couldn't tell I was nervous on the outside but I guess obsessively thinking about it made my body react.
I also get severe sanji like nosebleeds when really letdown or chronically depressed so this Sanji thing is normal to me; that stuff happens every week to me when I read Naruto.
I'm sure you only get nosebleeds because of the repeated head injuries you suffered from getting bullied at school. Now, whenever you so have to so much as think about what you are doing you get nosebleeds. I would get that checked out if I were you.
-
RE: Chapter 609: "Adventure on Fishman Island" Discussion
Oh my gosh, guys, stop not liking part of the story, if you don't like Sanji's nosebleeds and think they are getting annoying it's like you hate the whole story. If you can't like everything in this story written by my God, Oda, don't bother reading it, it doesn't need critical readers like you. Seriously, you are just awful for actually putting some thought into what you're reading. Nosebleeds being the most retarded plot point in all of one piece doesn't mean anything, if Oda put it in it means it is perfect and cannot be disliked, or you hate the whole story.
– the proclamation of all readers who are too retarded to think about what they are reading.

RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread
I don't agree with you. He really doesn't think like the other Ds'.
From now on, all the D's live for their dreams, or, Flamingo doesn't think that way, he really doesn't give any importance to the dreams, so, i think he can't really be a D's. If he's, he'd probably renounce to his name and that could explain why he isn't D.Oflamingo. But, i don't believe he's a D's because, only Gol D Roger had his name modified and that was because people didn't pronounce it well… so, if he was a D's, it would be a surprise.
What was Garp's dream? To become a Vice-Admiral? Oh, good dream right there, he really aims high. What is Dragon's dream? To overthrow the government (and become the new government)? That's great.
What was Saul's dream?
To die protecting a little kid? He definitely achieved that. What was Rouge's dream?
To die giving birth to Ace? she must've had that dream for a long time. -
RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread
I highly doubt that.. his way of thinking is way too different compared to other D's to be a D in my opinion.
I highly doubt you have established any basis to justify this post. You say that he doesn't act like any of the other Ds but you are going to have to be more specific in what manner. "His thinking" is a little vague.
Also, just so we're clear it is quite clear that Flamingo is not a D. however, if you are going to conclude he isn't one, it should be based on the fact that it a retarded notion and not because 'he doesn't think like the other Ds'.

Also am I the only who noticed that if these three dudes are actually brothers, that means that there's no fishman hybrids.
Wonder how genetics would play a role to have three brothers with different fish bases though. What has stated that Neptune only has one wife?

RE: Last Two Nakamates (vol. 5)
I think Jinbei is growing on me from re-reading, but that said I am more in favour of their being an offspring of Jinbei's he askes them to take. There is no forsdhadowing to follow for it but meh I'd enjoy seeing that facet of a story explored.
If the person has no goals other then fulfilling Jinbe's dream, he has no place on the ship. Luffy is not one to force people to come anyways.
If he does have other goals Jinbe should not have to convince him to come. The next character doesn't need to be Franky 2.0.
-
RE: Shichibukai Discussion Thread
Arlong is not going to come and fight Luffy if he does return, after all Luffy has done to the WG. He will definitely have some new scenes, whether it is flashbacks or directly re-entering the story.
If Arlong comes back to seek revenge against Luffy, although I think this is highly unlikely, he deserves everything he gets, considering Luffy is probably the best hope his people have, maybe not right now, but definitely in the future. If Arlong is not willing to put aside his anger to improve life for his people, I hope he gets killed this time around.

RE: Chapter 607: "10,000 Meters Under the Sea" Discussion
But, do you know what happen to Flying Dutchman? are they caught in the lava?
nothing is certain. I would like to think they have escaped, because them appearing for a few panels and disappearing for the rest of the story is pointless.
-
RE: Last Two Nakamates (vol. 5)
so, youre implying that Jinbe may possibly join the SH's because he is basically not wanted by fishman island?
Yes, I am saying to ignore those features in the story and coming to the conclusion that Jinbe won't join is premature. He has the best chance of any character revealed so far, if you don't believe that, you need to test your reading comprehension and see how much you need to improve just to be able to pick up on subtle story aspects.

RE: Most Disappointing Thing in One Piece
Blinded by rage. That's what this is called. You're mad at her for not being like the other strawhats. Loud, talkative, and outgoing. The fact that she isn't like that and when she speaks up whatever she says will either be info or dark humor is a clear representation of her personality. Like I said, it may be boring or annoying to you but it's incredibly stupid to say it isn't there. It's just different. It'd have been impossible for her to have gone through any kind of development at throughout Enies Lobby (or for Oda to really care that much about her) if she had no personality. I'd go so far as to say she wouldn't even be in One Piece if she didn't.
It's just distinct and noticably different. Why that bothers you so intensely is something I don't know nor is it something I'd ever understand as I'm not you. I can't get behind that.
He has repeatedly said that he knows she has dark humour and he knows she's important to the story, but he doesn't like her.
What the fuck do you think you have been posting?
-
RE: Most Disappointing Thing in One Piece
He says she's a shit character and he doesn't like her, because all she does is reads books, and you say no she's an amazing character and he must acknowledge her morbid one liners and insightful info. Good job. Keep on going with that argument, you'll clearly change his views on the matter.
-

I THINK what bothers him is not Robin's character but you people's need to show him her magnificent character* in the crew. Get off it, and if he wants to have the viewpoint, that the character is crap, let him do it. Why is it bothering you so much that you need to justify robin's character for him.
I edited that word.

RE: Chapter 607: "10,000 Meters Under the Sea" Discussion
If Arlong reappears and it is only to fight Nami, those scenes will be the foulest of crap produced by Oda.
-
RE: Last Two Nakamates (vol. 5)
I just dont see a Warlord joining, excuse me, former warlord. He has resposibilities else where. But I am only judging the situation by the current information givin to us now. Maybe more evident clues will appear later in the series. We will see what happens in the future. I may be wrong.
The current information is: the guards at fishmen island didn't bother to mention him even though he played a major role in the biggest war since Roger's time. It implies he is not in high favour with his people.
Except the Marines never attacked any pirate's staked territory. If they were the kind to do this, then they would've done it years ago to lure out Whitebeard, and they'd be doing the same thing to Kaidou right now, or any other pirate who has territory.
Luffy is not Whitebeard. Whitebeard had a 15 division (i think?) pirate fleet, with over 40 additional allied pirate crews (I think?). Engaging in warfare with Whitebeard proved extremely problematic even when the WG had the upper hand in every way, from a strategic standpoint.
Luffy has a 9 person pirate crew, Rayleigh, Shanks (maybe), and hardly any additional strong allies. I doubt the repercussions of engaging in war with Luffy would prove as problematic as it would have with Whitebeard, as we clearly saw in the War saga.
The WG destroyed an entire civilian island to protect a secret. I don't put it past them to use dirty means to defeat a growing threat.
-
RE: Chapter 607: "10,000 Meters Under the Sea" Discussion
I like how we're saying Luffy is stronger then Jinbe, based on nothing.
-
RE: Last Two Nakamates (vol. 5)
Also, this becomes very easy bait for the WG. If Luffy says, right now, that FI is under his protection, and the WG doesn't use it to bring him down right away they are bigger 'tards then George W. Bush. Also, if Luffy intends to protect it, he will have to face the marine admirals right away, if the WG provokes injustice against fishmen to provoke Luffy, which really isn't that far-fetched.
So, there really is no benefit to the story for Luffy to declare he is going to protect the island.

You are an idiot :3
! See sounding like an asshole isn't hard. Thanks for that revelatory information, I obviously had no idea Arlong built Arlong Park on the same island as Nami's village and subjected them to pay a tax to buy their lives. @HiroVoid:
Without looking through pages 16 and 17 yet. This was basically my view on the matter of Arlong.
Arlong's Actions = Understandable, but not justified.I guess I misused the word, someone show have told me sooner, so I could stopped while I was ahead.
This is exactly what I was trying to convey. I can understand what he did, however, what he did was not right.
To add further, this is also makes him more relatable, since, most of us would follow suit in a similar course of action, even if we think right now we wouldn't. It takes a very sensible person to not react emotionally when you are mistreated.
EDIT: half hour till my final, like a boss.

RE: Chapter 607: "10,000 Meters Under the Sea" Discussion
So you consider enslaving Cocoyashi as part of "fightning back the WG"?
That's exactly what I consider that. What doesn't classify it as that?
Arlong clearly had the goal to establish a kingdom in WG territory. How is that now fighting the WG?
