I like all the side projects they've done like Twilight Wings where they get to flex a little outside the box of the main series. And I don't think Ash will ever be gone for real. However I could see him moving to a more secondary role as sort of mentor while Goh takes center stage. It took ages but they did finally let go of needing the Rocket trio to be in every single episode sometime in Best Wishes.

RE: Pokemon Anime (Sun & Moon + Generations)
I thought when Journeys started it meant they would continue that series for multiple generations as the region traveling obviously allows for it, but yeah…I sorta feel like this might be the end of Ash as the main character? Not much else for Ash left to do if he takes down the world champ. Goh is as strong a candidate as there's ever been to take over the main character role and he represents the Go side of the franchise, which is about as important as the mainline entries these days.

RE: Shaman King Omake and TV Specials?
I kinda figured they would speed through the early part already covered by the original, Brotherhood did the same thing.
52 episodes still a little tight for a 300 chapter series but not a disaster unless they make it one, lol.

RE: The Promised Neverland
Is it fair to say CloverWorks just didn't have the resources to handle this series? Because I feel like they should have had it animated at least through Goldy Pond before the manga was done its run. I'm looking around at this series' peers (for example AssClass was same length and essentially same volume sales) and I feel like they definitely should have gotten more out the door while the manga was ongoing.

RE: The Promised Neverland
I know it's not the same situation or whatever bit it's galling to me that Shokugeki no friggin Soma got a full (albeit not well animated) adaptation and this didn't.
I feel like any other option would have been better than torching the damn series on the way out but it is what it is.
-
RE: The Promised Neverland
Yeah it's not overreacting at all. They literally hacked a quarter of the entire series out. I know they figured they wouldn't do more seasons (who knows why not because by all indications it's a solid seller and there's the Amazon adaptation on the way, etc) bit if it came down to it, would have been much better to just end the anime after the second arc and leave the rest not adapted.

RE: The New Nintendo Thread™
Splatoon 3 was a nice surprise, I figured that would be a one game per console series.

RE: Super Smash Bros
Picking mine up at 9pm tonight, yeeeeah I booked next week off work for this lol.

RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
As I've said before I have no issue with Let's Go unless I see these sorts of changes in the next game. On it's own it's no worse than the countless other Pokemon spinoffs in this mega franchise. It's not disrupting the generational cycle (ie Gen 8 is coming next year, three years after Sun/Moon). If this can win over some Go players to give the main series a chance then good for them.

RE: Super Smash Bros
Weird to me that Alph is a costume and not an echo fighter. I guess because there's literally no difference versus not much difference?
-
RE: Super Smash Bros
I think we're done with Fire Emblem reps but they'll eventually add a Three Houses lord as DLC.
-
RE: Super Smash Bros
That sounds like a great and satisfying single player campaign, therefore I don't believe it out of hand.
-
RE: Super Smash Bros
Waluigis entrance at the start of a match is him popping out of an Assist Trophy. Done.
The leak that said Ridley was in and all past characters were in also mentioned Simon Belmont's inclusion. Two out of three isn't bad, here's hoping for all three.

RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
Its aimed at Go players. I know many Go players. "Overpriced" and "waste of money" are foreign concepts to them.

RE: The New Nintendo Thread™
Oh yeah, Mario Kart. With Pokemon Gen 8 as the monster release in holiday 2019 and MK8 Deluxe coming out only a year ago, even if there is no Star Fox Grand Prix I'd guess Mario Kart 9 will be holiday 2020.
But I would absolutely buy a Pikmin trilogy port, no question.

RE: The New Nintendo Thread™
XCX being ported to the Switch is a given at some point. I enjoyed it a lot but also wouldn't want to sink another 180 hours into it lol.
I think we'll see a new Zelda but like a spinoff one. There's no divide anymore between handheld and console so that means the Switch will be home to the big major ones like Breath of the Wild but also top down ones like Link between Worlds, Tri Force Heroes, etc.
-
RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
I can see Let's Go becoming its own subseries. But again I can't see them ever seriously jeopardizing the real core games. As reinforced here by Ishihara
For those concerned about a subseries of Pokemon games aimed at casuals and kids, I'm, uh, not sure what multimedia franchise you've been looking at, but…

RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
Weird how they had Slowbro's tail as a separate Pokemon. I know it's supposed to be Shellder but it always bothered me how it looks nothing like it (yes I know there was an anime episode about this). That and Kangaskhan's baby also not being a separate Pokemon lol.

RE: Star Wars Universe - Resurrection F
A) Disney won't be able to put out 2 to 3 Star Wars movies a year like Marvel without some severely diminished returns. One a year in December is ideal, try to keep the "Episodes" as special events.
B) Rein in budgets and expectations on the Star Wars Story movies. They don't all have to be large scale blockbusters. And try to get a little more creative and freewheeling with the premises, timelines, etc. But standalone movies like Rogue One and Solo are still a good idea, just don't get ahead of yourselves.

RE: Super Smash Bros
I'd love a playable mounted FE character but I'm not getting my hopes up.
There is no new FE game to pull from (unless you count Shadows of Valentia, which I seriously doubt would get a playable rep) so I'm guessing Ike, Robin, Marth with Lucina and Roy alts, Corrin, and Lyn.

RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
It's cynical, but it makes perfect sense to target the Go crowd. Go still has a massive player base and they have every reason to want to try and convert some of those players to the main series. I'm just relieved that this Go integration is contained within a spinoff/sub-mainline/whatever the hell you want to call it rather than the actual Gen 8 titles. Again, I have zero concern until I see something disturbing about the actual next mainline games. The Gen 8 games are coming out next year, right on schedule for the usual generational cycle, and so long as I don't see any of this watered down crap in there they can do what they want.
-
RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
It does also raise the question of the balancing for a game like Pokemon Go. The trailer seems to imply it's a straightforward transfer between your Pokemon Go account and the Switch game. If this is the case, and it's not a trade, theoretically somebody can just be staying home catching thousands of pidgeys to transfer over and evolve in mass to level up. And if it's trade based(meaning it will only be Gen 1 for Gen 1) it kind of defeats the purpose of the special limited events Go is known for doing to require Pokemon not normally available in an area.
I thought the same thing at first (especially with the regionals in Go, but then the only Gen 1 regional I'm missing in Go is Mr. Mime), but I don't think you can transfer Pokemon from Go to Let's Go. You transfer over "presents" to Go. So I'm thinking it'll probably work sort of like the research rewards (which does include Pokemon encounters). And then whatever the new Pokemon is will no doubt be added to Go and only be available from Let's Go.
-
RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
Just the fact that they made a point of mentioning the Gen 8 games for next year calms my fears. These are just spinoffs, so do with them what you want lol. I maintain they'll never seriously alter the core mechanics of the mainline Pokemon games. Too much at stake there. Until I hear anything disturbing about Gen 8 I don't mind.
I'm seeing a lot of Go players excited about this so mission accomplished I guess.
-
RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
They use Oha Suta to make Pokemon-related announcements all the time though, or reveal stuff for the mainline games. I don't recall Oha Suta being the first to officially announce an actual mainline game but it's definitely a regular channel for Pokemon-related reveals.
-
RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
I don't think they'll ever seriously change the core catching, battling, breeding etc. concepts until the day I die.
I think Go integration will function like Amiibo support, used for some bonuses, nonessential content, whatever. While still understandably frustrating and sort of predatory, I actually find it a little less insulting than Amiibos because at least Go is theoretically free (theoretically) and functions as a game in its own right.
-
RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
I can't see Go integration being anything more than being really surface level and minor. I actually still play Go (I've known a lot of the players in my community for a while now, so it's really a hangout thing) and Go is an entity completely unto itself. This is a game that still only has 3 Gens, that still hasn't added stuff like Smeargle and Shedinja because they don't know how to code their abilities, that still doesn't have PVP or trading yet… you're not going to build a mainline game around that. When I think integration I think transferring a few things over, like the Pokewalker with HGSS.
That said, while Kanto remakes are disappointing, if these are just spinoffs or just something to tide us over for Gen 8 in a year or two, fine. But you can't honestly expect the Pokemon Company to scrap stuff like their current battle system, breeding, etc. No reason to panic until we know more.
-
RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
But you can have a more natural-looking and expansive environment that is also, you know, new.
I just really don't want to cave to the genwunners.

RE: The New Nintendo Thread™
The "leaks" and hysteria reached a point for me where, a couple of years ago, I just flat out stop visiting gaming news websites for the couple weeks leading up to E3. It's tiring and there's so much wrong and fabricated crap and rampant speculation that I practically go into radio silence. If some outlet managed to accurately leak something before the show, good for them.
-
RE: The New Nintendo Thread™
I think Nintendo thinks having a Virtual Console will limit their ability to remaster and resell games at full price (like Luigis Mansion on 3DS), though it just feels like a lost opportunity to me, and quite frankly they're leaving money on the table. And Majoras Mask on Virtual Console sure didn't deter people from the 3DS remake. So I don't know.
I mean I guess it's good that the paid online is cheaper than their competitors? Because it's definitely crappier.

RE: Digimon Adventure Oops All Fights
Adventure tri. felt off to me from the start. I don't understand why you would do a revival anniversary series that neither looks nor feels nor even really resembles the property it's reviving.
And the story was an absolute mess that I could barely follow at all. Dropped plot points all over the place. Random, unexplained Gennai/Ken/whatever. Strangely lengthy evolution sequences at awkward times, matching the super poor fight choreography. It felt like it was directed by someone who had never seen Digimon, or a movie, before.
Speaks to how much I cared for Digimon Adventure that I actually stuck with this for over two years, or that I'll probably watch whatever's coming next.

RE: Chapter 902: End Roll
I agree it was a good arc, and I especially love the bittersweet, dark ending here. It just ran way too long. 77 chapters for an arc where Big Mom is still standing at the end and really just setting up what is to come? Surely that could have been tightened up. Probably didn't help that Oda said it would wrap up last year.
So are we finally getting the Reverie now? Let's go (in two weeks)!
-
RE: Hiatus x Hiatus III: Goodnight, Sweet Princes
I think we'll see more chapters before the year is over. So long as we get 10 chapter batches like this at least it's predictable. At this point I just ask for consistency lol.
-
RE: Dragonball Discussion Kai: Broly but this time it's not Broly
So who here predicted 17 would be the last man standing at the start of the tournament? What a boss, and the last shot of him is taking a goddamn ride on his motherfuckin boat.
Good ending to a good series. Super's many flaws are well documented but despite a super shaky, borderline DOA start the series grew on me and I started legitimately looking forward to it each week. It gave the franchise a much needed kick in the ass and was a big improvement over GT. I look forward to the movie this year and then whenever the anime returns down the line.
-
RE: Super Smash Bros
Oh yes I know, I was just adding on. Sorry about the questionable quoting lol.
Anyway in general I actually doubt there will be very many roster cuts, and even then most of the cuts will just wind up as paid DLC. I mean, they charged people for Roy. Roy.
-
RE: Super Smash Bros
To make Shulk's moveset work with Rex they would have to put in like 5 "partners" or blades to represent the style change of the monado. The main two of the game are a lock, but one is the default and the other is the "power" or "smash" one.
I don't see why we wouldn't get both Shulk and Rex playable. We got what, six Fire Emblem characters? We can have two Xenoblade ones. Plenty to differentiate them too. Xenoblade is actually a semi big deal for Nintendo now.
That said I hope X gets some love too. If not a playable Elma or Lin than at least a stage.
-
RE: Dragonball Discussion Kai: Broly but this time it's not Broly
The animation for the movie looks gorgeous if nothing else, that alone will hook me even if the story is lacking.
@Yuugi's:Producer Takami and Series Direct Nakamura have pretty heavily implied that Toriyama has used this arc to set up further storylines, so I suspect that after the movie is released a new Dragon Ball series will begin airing in 2019. After all, April will be the thirtieth anniversary of Dragon Ball Z and the tenth anniversary of Dragon Ball Kai.
Absolutely. The GeGeGe Kitaro anime is for that franchise's fiftieth anniversary and it'll only run a year, maybe two (it ran for two years in its latest iteration) and then Dragon Ball will get the slot back. I just hope another sequel moves past the end of Z.
-
RE: Super Smash Bros
Yeah, I'm less concerned with the roster and more concerned with a) a meaty, actually good single player experience and b) an actually good online infrastructure, and c) quality stage design and variety. I'm sure the roster will be massive and have plenty of new characters, some from my wishlist, some not, some great, some clones, and so on, and the cuts will be minimal and only to the real superfluous ones.
I sorta wonder if there is a smaller Ridley being specifically designed for MP4 just so they can get him into Smash lol.
-
RE: Super Smash Bros
I actually think Palutena is super likely to stay…I don't think they'll cut any female characters for some attempt at balance, and Sakurai directed Uprising so I think he'd fight for her. Mind you I'm also of the adamant opinion that Uprising will get a sequel down the line.
-
RE: Super Smash Bros
There isn't a whole hell of a lot of difference between the specs of the Switch and the Wii U, right? So there's no reason to junk the old engine and start again from the ground up. Look at Xenoblade 2, Monolith was able to get it out two years after X because they built it upon X's existing architecture. And no one would call 2 a port or update of X lol. If you have that foundation already and are able to reuse assets like character models with a new bucket of paint on them and a number of stages, that's still a ton of development time cut out but can still involve adding and changing more than enough content to consider it a new game.
But yeah as mentioned before the third party characters would all have to be licensed again. I would imagine Capcom would love for Mega Man to return, as this does more for the character than Capcom does, and I'm sure Ryu is a package deal. Pac-man will be back for the same reasons imo, and Sonic is a shoo-in. I just really really doubt Cloud returns, maybe later as paid DLC again, and with Kojima gone from Konami Snake ain't ever coming back.
-
RE: Super Smash Bros
Well there will be some characters cut because the roster is really fucking big, but that said there are some easy cuts you can make right off the top - Roy, Dark Pit, Mii Fighters. I assume Cloud won't be back. If Bandai Namcos not involved then probably no Pac-Man.
Ice Climbers are a lock to return for sure. Rex - Xenoblade is easily worthy of two roster spots - and an ARMS character are obvious additions. Dillon could get bumped up to a roster spot. Another retro character - Balloon Fighter maybe? - of course. Captain Toad probably. And maybe, just maybe King K. Rool? A man can dream. And after Smash 4s snub I've given up on any Golden Sun representation in the roster.
The more I think about it the more I'm convinced this is a new Smash and not a port…but likely built heavily upon the Smash 4 engine. I just hope we get some meatier single player.
Goddamnit, I'm starting to hype myself lol.
-
RE: The New Nintendo Thread™
Hmmm Smash means that it is the big game of winter. No gen 8 pokemon or metroid prime this year.
If it's a Smash 4 port(which I'm assuming given it comes out this year) I don't see why we wouldnt also get Gen 8. I always assumed 2019 for Metroid Prime so that's fine.
The Splatoon 2 DLC looks great! And Mario Tennis Aces could actually be good! But besides that it was just a trip to New Port City, as expected.
-
RE: The New Nintendo Thread™
Well obviously there won't be any Pokemon news. It'll get its own reveal in a couple months. I'll just assume Gen 8 is coming in November and leave it at that.
Not sure how many Wii U games there are left to port over besides the great big obvious one (Smash). Hope we see some Bayonetta 3 and of course I'll take anything for Fire Emblem Switch, even just a title and release window.
-
RE: Dragonball Discussion Kai: Broly but this time it's not Broly
I can see it happening but they'd have to pull some shenanigans with the 24 hour time limit to make it work. And then Goku, who promised to revive Frieza fully, forgets to just like he keeps forgetting about Kaiosama. Or he finally remembers to revive Kaiosama and in the process forgets Frieza lol.
I'm still in love with the theory of Frieza eventually becoming a God of Destruction…
-
RE: Dragonball Discussion Kai: Broly but this time it's not Broly
re: the episode:
It was okay. Freeza's not in the stands, so I'm almost 100% he'll do some last minute attack just to give Goku a small window of time to land a crucial hit, or something. Even crazier, Goku and Jiren knock each other and U7 wins by default
but this is Super, so they're not gonna do thatI dunno, I'm actually 100 percent convinced that's the ending. Frieza is very deliberately being left out here. I totally think he's the last one standing after Goku and Jiren destroy the entire arena and are both eliminated. Frieza being hailed as the savior of the universe would be perfect.
-
RE: The Nintendo Thread
For me the main case for a new game would be adding more robust single-player / mini-games. I still miss break the targets lol. And I'm probably the only person who really loved Subspace Emissary and wants something like that again.
I wanted to love Subspace Emissary so badly, I really did, but those enemies. Gah.
The only thing about Smash 4 that really disappointed me was that they didnt even try to build or improve upon Subspace Emissary. The core concept is so great. I'd actually love an almost entirely single player focused Smash Bros but I don't know what the larger appetite for a game like that would be.
-
RE: The Nintendo Thread
I found Smash 4 utterly satisfying, to the point where I'm really not hungry for a new Smash. I'm perfectly fine with a definitive port on the Switch that drops a few characters (Mii fighters, Dark Pit, Roy) and adds the obvious ones (Inklings, an ARMS fighter, Rex, etc). And yeah if they want to do loot boxes for completely superficial stuff I don't mind.
I mean the only way I can think of to get me really excited for a full on new Smash at this point is if they made so many changes a new features it would be a fundamentally different game. Besides that I'm just fine with picking up an updated 4.
-
RE: The Promised Neverland
While I refuse to estimate exactly many volumes this series has left - I don't think any author can gauge that particularly accurately, you need the creative freedom to keep that flexible - I will say I never saw this being a particularly long series and always viewed it as something like AssClass in length.
-
RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
Pokemon Go already reuses the 3DS models with a new bucket of paint and they look quite nice, so I can totally see this being the case for the Switch games.
-
RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
Yeah, if you look at the bigger picture, everything actually points toward Gen 8 coming sooner rather than later, with the anime's progress as you mentioned, and then we only got two Mythics this gen rather than three, and usually they release once per year to line up with the yearly movie.
I think there's a lot of pressure coming from Nintendo to get Gen 8 out as soon as possible to keep up the Switch's momentum, and I'm not convinced they have anything else really big that will be ready in time for holiday 2018. It does seem like an awfully short development cycle, especially when this is the biggest leap hardware-wise we've seen from one gen to the next. So I have absolutely no idea what to expect out of Gen 8. I just know I expect it at the end of this year or maybe early 2019.
-
RE: Dragonball Discussion Kai: Broly but this time it's not Broly
Super was pretty universally panned when it first debuted with the movie adaptations and then the Champa arc started winning people over. I don't think anyone's putting it on the same level as what came before (although it's a big improvement over GT) but it's perfectly serviceable, enjoyable fluff.
The baseball episode alone justifies its entire existence and then some.
