    • RE: Chapter 935: Queen

      @Jabra:

      Douriki was nothing more than a Dragonball homage, one of many in the series. Hell, one of the characters who explained the system was inspired by Taopaipai / Mercenary Tao, who was Oda's favorite DB villain.

      This wasn't an awkward mistake or a concept Oda discarded after Enies Lobby. He undermined the Douriki / powerlevel system the moment it was explained. Physical strength plays only one part in a world with hundreds of ways to power up through Devil fruits, Willpower or other unique combat techniques (Fishman Karate, Hashoken, whatever Sanji is doing with DJ, various types of hypnosis, etc.).

      And that's the best thing he could have done as an author. It might be frustrating for fans to speculate about the powerlevel of a character, but that's ultimately what keeps the young audience engaged. A powercounter telling you that Smoothie is 10% more powerful than Cracker would be boring.

      I remember how terrible the conversations were when Douriki was first introduced. Thankfully it died out. But the 'bounties equal power' is here to stay. My argument to those people is always Chopper. He had a 50 berri bounty, but for a time he was probably the strongest of them all with Monster Point. This world is filled to the brim with all sorts of super crazy stuff. Devil Fruits make a power system irrelevant, and I am happy for that.

      Oh damn. That's too bad. The price point on the digital copies isn't too bad, but they would have looked pretty nice sitting along with my regular volumes. Thanks for the heads up. I was hoping that it was like the 'Dragonball' color volumes.

      Not really. Guts has actually grown quite a bit in the last few arcs. If he were to lose himself to the beast, he would end up like Skull Knight. He wouldn't die, he'd just come back different. I'm happy that they are finally on track. It's been so many years but the wait is worth it. Miura is fantastic and only gets better. I almost lost my shit when it was thought that he may have died in that tsunami.

      You haven't? I think there is a youtube video out there comparing Dhalsim and The Great Tiger trying to find out which character is more racist. I have the same love for Punch Out as I do Street Fighter. I can still beat Tyson with no cheats, no deaths, and zero continue codes. I wish we had more games like it.

      –- Update From New Post Merge ---

      @Captain:

      Capcom dropped a brand new trailer for Street Fighter V last night. The latest trailer runs through SFV's various modes, providing an elaborate explanation of each one. In the Story Mode segment, the trailer reveals that players can unlock each character's "story costume" by playing through their story. Survival Mode features "battle supplements" to strengthen your character and is also ticket to unlocking new character colors. The trailer goes on to highlight Network Battle features, Fighter Profiles, and more!

      For all those interested:

      I can't wait to play this game with a stick or a controller designed with fighters in mind. It'd be great if they would allow PS3 sticks to be used.

      It was supposed to read : the blatant stereotypical racist portrayal of ALL the characters.

      The original scetches and names of the characters were even worse, but I've never seen that as a bad thing. Street Fighter treats everyone the same. There are no sacred cows. They treat everyone as equals. And I really like that about them. It never feels classless, and that they are ridiculing any race color or creed. We are all free and equal to take a hell of a beating on the streets.

      Street Fighter has ALWAYS had 'idealized' characters, as have MOST media in general. What I find to be funny is that no one cares about the blatant racist portrayal of ALL the characters. And I have a theory as to why: It is inclusionary. No one is 'safe' or off limits. I also believe that to be true of all the character's designs, female AND male. Most of the men are rippling ponds of muscles, and on average show much more skin than their female counter parts. Where is the outrage about the potrayal of the men in the game?

      I need to make sure this point hits home: I am a feminist. Women and men of all colors should be treated equally, and in the case of Street Fighter they are. On closer inspection it looks like the men are more tilted toward eye candy. If anything the females need to catch up.

      @Mr.:

      DLC stages are to the left and right of thefirst island, not shown on the main overworld map. Moving left or right brings up a separate map.

      Speaking of DLC stages, it looks like S rankings are far more strict than in the regular Dream Mode/Nightmare Mode stages. Still not too hard to achieve but certainly more difficult.

      Also, of the currently available DLC outfits, the only canon ones currently are the Dressrosa outfits (including Sabo's Lucy outfit) and pre-timeskip Boa Hancock.

      Although I can certainly understand not including Carp Luffy in the main game–Kinemon isn't even in it to explain the costume change. Same with the Lucy outfit considering the whole secret undercover aspect of the arc is dropped in the game.

      Do you know if the 38000 yen set actually includes all current and future DLC? I want to plop down the money but some of the wording seems misleading.

    • RE: Uncharted (PS4)

      You aren't missing much.

      I got Tomb Raider for free and played it from start to finish and really didn't like any of it. I only finished it because I figured I was close to the end and I may as well slog on through. I really don't understand the love for this one. The opening cinematic is pretty nice to look at and then there is a jarring change in the way all the characters look and move. It was like watching an FMV in Final Fantasy 7 and then going to the in game models. And from what I've seen through videos, the next gen edition still doesn't look anything like that opening cinematic. That really set the tone for me for the rest of the game and put a sour taste in my mouth. I would've much rather seen Square-Enix use the game models for their opening scene instead of a CG movie.

      Uncharted 2 on the other hand is a game I've played though countless times, and it is fantastic in every regard. I would put Uncharted 3 above Tomb Raider for the sheer fact that it looks MILES better, but from a gameplay standpoint they are probably neck and neck. If only Naughty Dog would have kept the multiplayer of U3 the way it was during the summer beta…

    • RE: Uncharted (PS4)

      I think that Uncharted might be back on track. When the news first broke that Uncharted four was in production I was upset. I was angry because Hennig and Richmond were making it. That pair are responsible for the pretty, but otherwise horrid game Uncharted 3. I jumped out of my seat when I heard that Hennig was "forced out" of Naughty Dog. I'm sure that Druckmann being made the creative director at Naughty Dog had everything to do with Hennig's departure. She was the main reason that Uncharted three suffered the horrible fate that it had. It is clear to see that Druckmann and Straley's 'influence' was what made the previous games in the series so good. Druckmann is clearly the right man for the job. If Druckmann and Straley take over (pie in the sky hopes) I'm over the moon about the PS4 Uncharted. My hope is that if they do take over they wipe the slate totally clean, and it looks as if they may be doing just that. At the very least Druckmann is the Creative Director for the company now so I'm sure he won't let sub-standard shit like Drake's Deception out.

      This is hearsay, but I'd heard that Hennig was a notorious baby and wouldn't accept any criticism or ideas about her work on Drake's Deception. From the looks of things she was using Uncharted 4 as her personal playground, and the higher ups at the company said a very polite "get lost". I went from feeling dire to being excited. Fingers crossed they don't let us all down this time.

      I'm actually kind of happy that they didn't credit me for all the time I spent with this multiplayer before. It makes everything seem new in a way. I've certainly been having a blast playing it again. Even if the game knows the things I want and purposefully gives me the opposite.

I haven't watched the anime in quite some time so it was really nice to hear all of the war stuff acted out. Now it's on to completionist things like maxing all character's levels and getting all the coins.

      We've spent years watching the Strawhats lose fight after fight, each more heart wrenching than the last. The Strawhat Pirates had to get through this easily. There is only so much heartbreak and defeat that an audience can take before they feel daunted themselves and just give up on it. We have been waiting years for these moments. A complete cluster f**k. Everything that could go wrong did, and then some. I was only able to pull out a couple hours worth of buggy games before calling it quits for the day.

      Beta Day 2:
      After freezing my system multiple times I was finally able to get the update. Thankfully the update patch alleviated all of my woes. I have had solid games ever since.

      Beta Day 3:
      I'm really liking all of the changes that have been made to Uncharted. Powerplays, Kickbacks, Loadouts, and Customization of characters and weapons are all welcomed features. The Powerplays make the game more epic. Once that music kicks in it's hard not to get pumped up, no matter what side you are on! Kickbacks add another layer to the game. Now you'll think twice before closing in on that guy in the corner. The feeling of luring a group of enemy players into a kickback trap is second to none. The customization shows promise. I'm hoping that what we have in the beta is just the tip of a VERY LARGE iceberg.

      I have to say I really love the cheap stick I bought. I only have two real complaints about it #1 being that the cord is SHORT. My Hori EX2 was cheap and the thing still plays like a champ after billions of hours of playtime. I'm of the school that ANY (perhaps not BAT top) stick is better than the pad.

      If I had the $130 for the TE, of course I would've went that way. The cheap stick is just to last me until I can get the guts to modify my 360 TE. I'm just worried about really fucking up the TE, and being out even more money.

      I ordered a cheap stick for my PS3 this morning. I can no longer stand the pad. Simple combos that should take all of a second to pick up and go with are taking entirely too long. Hopefully, I should have my stick by the weekend so I can get some games in with you guys. I may end up biting the bullet and playing with the stupid pad today…

      I've had more time with the game, but still feel that I can't accurately judge it, for the fact that I don't have a stick for my PS3. Playing this game with the PS3 controller is an absolute PAIN. It's taking me so long to do combos that are beyond dead easy with a stick. Hopefully I can find a stick this weekend, so I can actually enjoy the game.

      I won't be able to fight online until I have a proper stick. The level of suck that I would bring with that PS3 controller would be off the charts. I wonder just how easy it would be to mod my 360 TE…

      My Gamestop had a midnight launch. I'm digging the game so far, and I'll have real impressions on the game tomorrow. For now it's been a long day and I need to SLEEP.

      The bubble that Luffy is in quite obviously is a mermaid's fart. It's like I'm not even reading the same Manga as the rest of you.

      I love "Kung Fu" point. That is all.
