RE: The Walking Dead (AMC series)
Reviving this as The Ones Who Live just concluded, seemingly ending the story for Rick Grimes.
It ended up Just like many, many other shows with a 6-8 episode run nowadays. Starting off incredibly, and fumbling at the last minute. Which is wild to say of TWD, a show which started with just a few episodes in a pretty universally loved first season, and suffered each season afterwards with bloat from seasons stretching plots thin over 16 episodes.
The series did so much incredibly well. It felt like a logical continuation of Rick, put him through hell and back, and explained his absence from the main series well, and fitting what was shown in the main series finale.
It did it's best to rationalize Michone's absence from her kids. An act that regardless of this series, still sticks out like a sore thumb for her character leaving the main show.
Honestly a great run of episodes except for the last speed running through a villain hyped up for over half a decade across several shows.

Yeah, I came across the uncensored video. It's something for sure.
Not to take away from his message, but the most significant thing from the video I've taken away was the one police officer doing nothing but keeping his gun on him as he burned. As the other people responding are frantically trying to put out the flames on the boy, as one responder screams AT the cop "I don't need guns, I need a fire extinguisher" the police officer just watches the man burn with his gun on him. Doing nothing but watch him suffer as others try to save him.

Meanwhile legacy recruitment in colleges -focusing on Ivy league here- is still completely legal.
Requiring a certain amount of minorities to be included in admission to SLIGHTLY balance the disproportionate opportunities given to those economically impacted by legal racism? Well that's illegal now.
Zero regulation on rich white boys getting in regardless of their academic standing compared to anything else because daddy went there in the 70's though.

RE: Overwatch
I've played OW maybe twice in the past 6 months, but the final nail in the coffin for the franchise seemed to have just happened.
The PVE -the differentiating gameplay from OW1- not only is being scrapped, but has been planned to have been scrapped since before OW2 released allegedly.
They let Overwatch rot for years while claiming the reason was because they were focusing on developing the sequel which would really serve as the original vision of the first game. And it turns out they weren't. They released OW2 only w/ the pvp claiming it was to tide people over while they continued to focus on the PVE.
Really is an insane level of killing a game.

RE: DC TV Series Thread - Crossovers where heroes SING!
The first few seasons actually handled Cecile greatly when they focused on her being a lawyer. It was actually a really interesting dynamic having her be a DA. Her part in the
"Trial of the Flash" story in season 4 was fantastic having her needing to give up her post to defend Barry. Then she awkwardly became a "Metahuman attorney" which was used maybe twice ? And now she simply goes around saying "Barry, I'm feeling this wave of sadness. I'm sensing anger" nearly every episode using her powers to explain very obvious emotions of other characters.
-
RE: DC TV Series Thread - Crossovers where heroes SING!
Grant and Candice's health has nothing to do with taking a chunk of the penultimate episode to focus on the showrunners' awful OC conveniently learning she has Xmen DOFP-style mental time travel, going to the future where she's 70 while doing NOTHING to "age up" the actor, only to INSTANTLY give up on her mission to save the Flash because she gets mildly upset that her now 5 year exhausting character arc of "becoming a hero" means not being around her spouse.
There are plenty of characters they could focus on to take screen time away from Grant and Candice for scheduling. Do they focus on Danielle Panabaker (who did a great job directing in this season btw), nope. Start the season by killing her characters, reintroduce her as a weird mix of her two old characters with a dash of her Sky-High powers and forget about her. Killer Frost's boyfriend who comes back claiming "time and time again, Barry never gave up on me". How many times was that? MAYBE twice? Good enough.
Hell you have TWO actors portraying Thawne! Both spent years between Flash and Legends portraying different iterations of the same character at different points in his life to great effect.
There are plenty of opportunities production wise to fill time outside of having Grant and Candice on camera. Spending a good portion on the showrunner's weird fetishized insert(Yeah not forgetting the weird super creamy fire extinguisher exploding over Cecile and Allegra this season) is not the way to do it. Especially when they could have spent more time on the final villain's arc which was relegated to only the last 3 episodes of the series.
-
RE: DC TV Series Thread - Crossovers where heroes SING!
The penultimate episode really shows the highest and lowest points of Eric Wallace's legacy on the show.
They nailed closing the timeloop of Thawne/Barry. Have done an amazing job bringing back a certain season 1 character as a final villain of the show.
And yet it's sandwiched between some of the worst scenes of the shows history once again pushing EW's obsession with the character of Cecile in the dumbest ways. Absolute laziness in making the completely unnecessary choice to show the 2049 versions of Cecile, Allegra, and Chester......and choosing to use almost zero make up or effects to show these characters aging. Not even making a stupid reference to some Back to the Future 2-style anti aging cosmetics. Nope, just showing character that would be in their 50's(chester+Allegra) and 70's (Cecile) almost exactly as they currently are. Why? To have the 5th or 6th repeat of the "Cecile learns to be a superhero" story.
Meanwhile the main story of the villain of these last few episodes has been FANTASTIC. That season one character returning was handled great and shows this guy's actor's talent. And instead of having this take place over the majority of the season, it's been relegated to the last 4 episodes. In a shorter final season that still had "filler" episodes, and a ridiculous plot trying to fit in the cancelled Batwoman show which Eric Wallace has done since the beginning of the previous season,
Why they continued to let a dude continue to run a show called "The Flash" who has spent multiple seasons making the titular character a background character is beyond me. Grant, Candice, and the rest of the cast deserved far better for this final send off.

RE: DC TV Series Thread - Crossovers where heroes SING!
@JulieYBM Unforunetly, it's been the only good episode of the entire last season. Props to Danielle Panabaker for directing this one.
It seems the last 4 episodes are going to focus on closing the infamous time loop from the from the first season. That said the next episode is going to be directed by Eric Wallace, the show runner of the last few bad seasons.
And based on the summary, we're getting even more Allegra and Cecile content. Which this show really doesn't need in it's last 4 episodes.

@JulieYBM is not a cishet man but I do think its a combination of bad acting + overly wanting to be at the center of attention in interviews + a not-so-good role.
Captain Marvel would have worked better if her role in the films felt earned, it just wasn't. This is doubled down on Brie Larson walking in and then acting like she expected to be at the same level of fame as the rest of the Avengers when it took them 2-3 movies to get to where they are.How did she "walk in and expect the same level of fame". What did she ACTUALLY do that makes you think that?
The only thing even close to that I can imagine is her pointing out the hypocrisy of criticism thrown to her vs the MCU males in their first performances. Such as tweeting photoshops of them smiling after people said their critiques was her "brooding and not smiling" and then her pointing out almost every phase 1 marvel hero in a promotional photo all serious.
And to a degree, she actually did have more fame, than say Chris Hemsworth at the time Thor was made.

RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
During Whole Cake, my theory for why Big Mom wanted the cloning tech was so she could pretty much have an endless number of souls to steal to increase her homie army
in hindsight with the Stussy/Bucking reveal I'm wondering if it was actually for the pursuit of a more tragically sentimental reason: cloning Mother Carmel since she never "found" her.

RE: DC Movies Thread - Shazam saves the day
Right, but there is a difference between something like having Black Widow show up in Iron Man 2, then retconning your Batman, having a (now scrapped) film about a younger person taking up the mantle(Batgirl) and then doing that exact same story again with Beyond.
That's my point on the redundancy.
And hey, I completely doubt it given the rest of the shit show going on at WB, but maybe part of the idea of dumping Batgirl WAS because they thought they could make more with a theatric Beyond film and didn't think they could have both.
At the end of the day though, I still think having Keaton come back outside of a Beyond film was a mistake, and a fumbled idea trying to salvage a connected universe Batman after Affleck started going through shit and was unsure on returning.
-
RE: DC Movies Thread - Shazam saves the day
I mean at this point a Beyond movie would have been pretty redundant. It wouldn't have been Keaton's return to the role(That would be Flash) and if things had gone as planned, it wouldn't have been his first time as an aged hero training a successor(Batgirl).
Having him in newer films outside of Beyond first kind of ruins the idea of being reintroduced to an aged, bitter, and physically incapable Batman allowing a very different young hero to take up the cowl in his place.

For a while I thought the point of introducing Germa's cloning science was to point to Big Mom taking advantage of the Souls of those clones to grow her Homie army, in a general sense of growing power.

RE: American Politics: A Brand New Day
While Zeldin did manage to fuck Long Island's local candidates in getting Republicans to show out(multiple people in "lets go brandon" apparel when I went to vote), at least the rest of my State saw how much of a disengenious liar my congressman is and gave his gubernatorial run the proper boot.
I mean dude literally had a drunk veteran try to take his microphone while holding a plastic Hello Kitty keychain, framed it as an attack on his life, had his campaign co chair- the DA of the county where that occurred- purposefully charge him with a non violent crime. All so Zeldin could blatantly lie about "Bail Reform" being responsible for his "attempted murderer" being on the streets.
Thank the heavens I don't have to listen to another one of his bullshit ads while watching Pluto TV. "Lee was a former prosecutor. So you KNOW he's tough on crime". He was a prosecutor in the military. Not a member of any DA. The extent of his "tough on crime" was prosecuting recruits with discharges for smoking weed while home on leave. He never saw combat because of his role as a military attorney, spent years campaigning while portraying himself as a combat vet, then tried to have his cake and eat it by bragging about his experience as a prosecutor, leaving out WHO he was prosecuting.
Glad you got fucked Lee. You deserve it. Signed, a student of the college you purposefully flooded with fliers with the incorrect date of election day two congressional runs IN A ROW in an attempt to get younger voters to not show up to vote. While blaming his volunteer staff each time.

RE: Maiden voyages
Most of the games themselves have went away from gameplay along the full story. Some games follow the plot but picking up at different arcs well into it's run. And many then deviate in their own direction rather than following the plot proper.
Honestly the game that probably follows along closest to the story would be "One Piece: Grand Adventure" which was release on ps2. And only goes along to the Alabasta/Skypiea arcs, which are plots that were published at the latest in 2003. And while it's a very fun game, keep in mind of has the badly directed/miscast voice actors from the failed original english dub of One Piece by 4kids Entertainment.
If you're looking for some companion media outside of games while starting the series, I'd recommend both the "One Piece Podcast" and their mini series "OPReadthrough", where they cover rereading the entire series. And "TotallynotMark" on Youtube, who makes several videos as he begins reading several popular Shonen Manga, including One Piece. He has a whole series of videos as he begins the series.

And in typical Republican fashion, they're still attacking her during this, saying they're coming for her. Blaming her for having bad security. Blaming the State of California as a Dem run hellhole therefore she caused her own family's attack, blaming Biden, blaming Biden for being "divisive" therefore causing this(fuck Republicans. Seriously fuck them all),
Meanwhile the dude had a very clear digital footprint buying into the election conspiracies, specifically a large amount of posts shared from Mike Lindell.
And as much as I think Pelosi is an AWFUL, out of touch, rich piece of shit gleefully abusing her power to profit as an Inside Trader, at the same time this comes right after video surfaced of her during January 6th. Showing that the GOP has been gaslighting the nation for almost 2 years claiming she either did nothing to stop it, or that she instructed law enforcement to stand by to purposefully make it worse for optics.
For all the GOP Senators and House members that spread these lies for 2 years, until video just a month ago shows that she was actively calling and seeking National Guard to intervene. And not only that, coordinating safety for Pence. The scumbag that still shills for people that tried to hang him.
Years of people like Trump personally attacking her, MGT and others openly calling for her to be imprisoned at the least, and outright killed at the most. And here someone acted on it. And they blame everyone else after their fantasy almost came true.

Haven't seen Andor yet, but it's on my watchlist. I wasn't exactly eager to check it out since it focuses on a character I don't think anyone wanted a backstory to (even less than Han Solo) and it's basically a prequel to a prequel. But if it's as good as I've heard, then...well, here's hoping.
It's the best Star Wars show nobody asked for haha!
So far it's done a really good job of fleshing out the real grit of the early rebellion, the consequences on everyday people as a result of rebelling against the Empire, and showing the day-to-day life of those working FOR the Empire.

RE: Star Wars Universe - Resurrection F
So Andor has absolutely been killing it. Easily my favorite of Disney + Star Wars shows(Yes, better than Mando in my opinion).
And Tales of Jedi just dropped. It's runtime does leave it to over simplify some of the stories they're trying to tell. But I think it did a really good job of giving a snapshot into some key moments of Dooku's evolution into a Sith lord.

But as Satsuki said, no interest in subscribing to Nebula.
I feel for her being legitimately bullied and harassed over complete non issues. And she had and has every right to make, or not make, content to any degree of consistency she wishes.
However I think her turning legitimate harassment and trolling campaigns into "no cancel culture exists and I'm a victim" was kind of bullshit. Burnout and needing a legitimate break is absolutely warranted. But I don't know what she thinks the result will be of switching from Youtube to a full paywall service will be. Especially on a more unknown platform then, say Patreon.
Especially if her goal IS to limit the harassment, why not upload on Youtube and disable comments? Tweet to your hearts content and allow only mutual followers the ability to respond?

So I'm excited to see where Trevor goes next, but the Daily Show always felt off for him to host.

I'm sorry, "the guy that ended up dead beacuse everybody who could help him waited"?
That's not what happened in the manga. At all. What manga are you reading?
The ONLY people who knew what was going on with Ace and hesitated was the Strawhats, because of Luffy's choice to let Ace live his own life. He didn't know the circumstances of his capture. And Luffy only knew -and refused to help him- because of the Vivrecard. Nobody else knew he was in danger until the World Government announced his public execution. And as soon as that happened, Whitebeard and 40 other New World Crews strolled into Marineford.
-
RE: Chapter 1060: Luffy's Dream
@Ivotas said in Chapter 1060: Luffy's Dream:
I literally said "I had no problems with this secret the way it was handled up until this chapter. It was just an oath between brothers that simply added another layer to the Pirate King thing."
Meaning yes, I do not only remember but I specifically address that part in my previous post. The oath was there but it never seemed to be more than another layer to the Pirate King thing. Shanks' words to Rayleigh strike me as the same. However in this very chapter it turns out you need to be "at least Pirate King" (Franky) and that Luffy will "maybe" (Luffy) be possible once he's Pirate King. Thus becoming Pirate King now is the minimum requirement for Luffy's dream, which is a completely different outlook on the situation as it has been before.
For decades we've been lead to believe that Luffy's dream is to become Pirate King. Every Strawhat has their clearly defined dream. Zoro wants to be the strongest swordsman, Nami wants her map etc. And Luffy wants to become Pirate King. That's even the thing they declared before entering the Grand Line. Luffy is constantly declaring this throughout his adventures, "kaizoku-ou ni ore wa naru" is pretty much an engrained statement in the collective pop culture memory of Japan even if people have never watched a single episode or read a single chapter of One Piece. People know what this means. If you frame your story like this, then you clearly are giving off the impression that Luffy's dream is to become Pirate King. It's not the audiences fault for coming to this conclusion. It's the author's framing of the entire dream thing. Every main character has a clearly defined goal the audience knows about. We were never lead to believe that we don't Luffy's true dream until this very chapter.
Let's imagine a conversation between two friends, one trying to convince the other to give One Piece a try:
Conversation 1
Now picture the same conversation with the new info from chapter 1060:
Conversation 2
I hope I was able to get the point across, that the introduction of this mystery happening much earlier is not my main problem. It's that it suddenly makes becoming Pirate King not the main goal anymore. It just became a means to an end. And that's not what it was for so long.
I'm sorry but this comparison of two conversations you wrote, where one is clearly just to validate opinion on this matter doesn't help your point. This isn't a real conversation that happens of someone trying to get someone into One Piece.
This is like complaining about Naruto not understanding politics while his dream was the ninja version of "mayor of New York City". And his not understanding the full scope of the position he dreamed was something pointed out very clearly, because HIS reasoning to become Hokage was 'I want to protect the village and for them to respect me", something he gained well before becoming Hokage.
Yeah, if I had a conversation to someone about getting into Naruto and went off about how he wants to be the strongest Ninja in the village, but actually there's more politics to it and by the end he earns what he wanted without the position, but actually grows to understand and encompass the reality of that position as a mature politician, it would probably make the series sound like shit.
"B: "So, it is not his dream but a requirement for his dream then?"
A: "Yes."So what?
Nami's dream is "Map the world". We very clearly know that by the end of the main narrative , we will not have seen her going to every inch of the globe personally mapping it.
A requirement of Nami's dream is to reach Lodestar and Laughtale, places not mapped. Are you going to complain at the end of the series how we didn't see Nami mapping uncharted islands in South Blue?
