I love how chaotic Big Mom is. Takes me back to when Law was told in PH that Luffy already has the selfishness of a Yonko, and that one time when Luffy started a serious fight with Zoro in Whiskey Peak because he thought Zoro cut down the people who showed them hospitality.

RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
If you want to hear the long version of my story there's 'Greg's Bizarre Adventure'.
OP Magazine 9 is ridiculously cool. If this came out in 2011 I would have absolutely lost my stuff.
I can't post pics etc. because it's before the street date but a number of Oda's storyline design images from the past have been revealed and some of differences between them and the final products are just mind-blowing. Take for example that 'Gold Lion' (aka Shiki) was originally intended to be one of the three Admirals during the Ohara flashback. Whaaaaaaaat!?
Shiki's epithet is "The Golden Lion"…
Matching the color + animal theme of the admirals...
O_______O
Incredible. -
RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
For me it's 2 different people
From what I understood
The one roger is waiting for might be luffy, someone who will also reach laughtale/raftel and continue what he couldn't .
The one of legends/of Promise/The chosen one might be someone else (the new Joy Boy, the one related to Noah, the ancient weapons and the opening of wano's borders, etc…)
1-Might also be luffy - the predictable cliche narrative
2-Might be someone like robin/momo - less predictable but still makes sense
3-Might be let's say no one it was all a lie / or it was buggy - the I SUBVERTED YOUR EXPECTATION!! path which is horrible <-- this one is going for "unpredictability" just for the thrill of it.4. It's all the friends Luffy made along the way

RE: Chapter 972: I Am Oden, And I Was Born To Boil
I think there is a fundamental misunderstanding going on here. You're not getting anywhere with just one Will, lol. You need several:
1. Will of D.
2. Will of Goldo Roger
3. Will of Poseidon
4. Will of Acesu
5. Will of Joy BoyIf you have them all you can combine the power of the Wills and summon Captain Strawhat, child of the prophecy
(Will of Acesu is optional because it actually does nothing, but it doesn't hurt either so whatever)
Will of Acesu allows him to summon his trusted ally Sabo
-
RE: Chapter 972: I Am Oden, And I Was Born To Boil
By far the best chapter of the arc so far.
-
RE: Chapter 971: Sentenced to Boil
At this point there is only one humane solution for Wano, really.
The Wanonese had a damn good excuse to be as scummy as they are in the present day (and I thought the flashback would salvage that to some degree), but they are largely just awful people, past and presence.
I'm not joking, evacuate a handful of people (some from Ebisu Town or what) and then just nuke the place and forget about it. Green Bull still needs his great entrance anyway.
Several decades after the nuke Wano enters the great age of anime.
-
RE: Chapter 971: Sentenced to Boil
Well, that makes Oden's motivation for accepting the offer pretty clear..
You can start a civil war and have a lot of your people die, you can refuse the offer and have them slowly kidnapped, or you can accept and hope that in 5 years they'll keep their promise. All in all, a lot of this flashback is about tests of resilience for Oden.
Three days to not let go of the chains, 5 years of humiliation and having the people lose faith in you, one hour of boiling.
He voluntarily failed the first one for a justified cause, the second one turned out to be arguably in vain (arguably because he did protect thousands of lives for all those years). I wonder how exactly the third one will end (aside from him dying). The only thing I'm left to wonder is why Kaido needed those people. The chapter mentioned tortue.. is it just a hobby of Kaido?
-
RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
Was the hostage situation awkward? yeah, but I don't see a problem with the general outcome.
Kaido tanked that hit. Like he tanked all hits so far, and didn't try to dodge a single one. Like how his commanders are tanking hits all the time. Complaining about how Oden managed to strike Kaido just like that reminds me of how people complained about Ashura Doji wounding Jack. And what did that get him? Jack could still fight. It's the same guy who was being pounded by Inu and Neko for 5 days and 5 nights and later took a hit from a country-sized elephant's trunk. And just like him Kaido got back up moments later and hit back. It's not like Kaido is invincible, he was captured and tortured numerous times. His defining feature is not that he never lost, but that he came back every single time and slowly got his way. Like how Jack couldn't defeat the minks but he still got his way in the end.
They charge at any challenge, and take any attack head on. Sometimes they win, sometimes they lose, but they come back every time. They're one of the most stubborn crews in the whole world, and being wounded doesn't take anything away from that. If anything, it makes any prospects of Luffy beating him ever so slightly more believable. Whatever happened 20 years ago, he's still the highest obstacle Luffy ever had to surpass.
All the hostage situation did was allow Oda to cramp the fight and its outcome into one chapter. -
RE: Chapter 969: Fool of a Lord
From chapter 819:
https://i.imgur.com/taOThCc.jpg?1This was weird and fucked up, I like it. I love that panel on the last page where they cross the bridge. Expectations for the rest of this flashback are high.
I'm a little bit disappointed though that the theft of Ryuma's corpse and shusui was completely skipped. I really want to learn more about Ryuma.I think expanding on Ryuuma is one plot-line too many for this arc. I'm sure Oda would be happy to, but he needs to stay at least somewhat focused.
I think the Monsters one-shot is more than enough until Oda decides to make a spin-off or a side-story one day. -
RE: What did Luffy say?
I can't see it being anything grandiose. Even on his own ship, he's the captain because it's his adventure. Otherwise he's just chilling with his friends.
EDIT: I agree it might be something childish, but more in how simple and unambitious it sounds. -
RE: What did Luffy say?
Do we have a list or something of the characters who said they wanted to be pirateking ? As far as I know, there is Kidd and Teach. Anyway, there is obviously more. But how many characters have openly said it except Luffy ?
IIRC Law said that or something similar to Luffy in Dressrosa.
Then, of course, we have the No. 1 candidate for pirate king - Zombie Oars
Weevil also comes to mind for some reason, but that might be because he seems a lot like Oars to me lol. -
RE: New MANGA Plus service from Shueisha (global, legal, simul, free, English releases)
If Jaimini's had released chapters much later than MangaPlus/SP, would be people willing to wait for the "superior" translation? I don't buy the "scans are much better" argument. It's convenient. People should be honest about it and not make silly excuses. Mind you, I wouldn't even blame them for reading scans but I think people aren't honest.
I would still read both, just in reverse order, because I know the official translation goes an extra mile to localize things.

RE: Chapter 964: Oden's Adventure
Maybe someone has pointed out this already but the crescent moon on Tokis outfit seems quite similar to the ankle tattoo representing the kozuki followers. I wonder what the story about that mark is.
Plot twist: she is Oden's great-great-great-great-great- …. -great-great-aunt
-
RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
If anything she's too strong to get fights. ''Power and speed are meaningless against me''. I think she's said that several times. The problem is her powerset is not very fitting for 1vs1 fights. If she's strong enough to overpower the enemy, she can easily win. But if she isn't, then there's not much she can do either.
I think her most interesting battle sequence was against Crocodile. She had a way to win, but also couldn't use her usual quick methods. Long story short, it's a question of whether he wants to focus on her or not.
-
RE: Chapter 963: Becoming Samurai
Still, with how wary Whitebeard was and even warning his crew to stay back, it is either too careless act or that he underestimated Oden which doesn't make any sense considering how wary he was.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Even Zoro who had only 2 years of haki training was checking his swords after his haki clash with Pika.
Or maybe Oda just forgot to color it? he's been giving the wrong timestamps for several chapters now, so it's not that far-fetched that he would forget something like that.
At this point we should assume that if a character can use haki, then they're using it. At least on some level. -
RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
What’s stopping Big Mom from taking out the Baratie right now? Nothing. And Sanji + Brook + Nami + Chopper + Caesar could have taken out Bege.
Also, have you noticed how Oda entitles chapters when the crew members officially join “The #th person”? Hence the title of Ch. 439 representing the official join of Usopp and Robin.
There's also nothing that's making her do it, and Judge said he won't touch Zeff. Whether you like how it got resolved or not, that plot point is done.
And yes, I did notice. Doesn't change the fact they were willing to risk their lives for each other. -
RE: Dumb Predictions
At the end of Zou Luffy said that Sanji is worth 1,000 men. This means Sanji has 10,000 doriki.
-
RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
But actions have consequences. People make choices and whatever results is usually a direct result of their own decisions, positive or negative. Regardless of Sanji’s intent, it doesn’t absolve him from blame.
Nami and Robin were being held hostage against their will and never “really” joined the crew until Luffy stood up for them.
Usopp is the rare case since he was actually correct in his judgment: he was trying to save a teammate. But he was wrong because he poorly explained his rationale and revolted against his leader. Usopp had to apologize before he returned for that reason.
His crewmates were held at gunpoint (literally), and his mentor's life was threatened. How much hostage do you need?
And Robin was part of the crew. It may have been superficial at first, but by Water 7 she was literally willing to die for them. -
RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
Would this have happened if Sanji hadn’t defected?
Of course he's part of it, but no one will point fingers at him for getting trapped between a yonko and his abusive cyborg-family.
It's like saying that Robin is a bad character because she cooperated with CP9.
Or the same for Nami, for leaving for Arlong Park.
Or the same for Ussop, for trying to save Merry. -
RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
Riiight the Rox pirates, wasn't thinking about that because I still don't see 2 members getting together again as a proper "revival" (apparently Kaidou was just an apprentice at the time so we're not sure if they were elite members). But fair enough, I get it now
Yeah this Rocks thing can go anywhere at the moment. Either way I highly doubt Oda intended for the blame to be put on Sanji, but rather just used him as a plot device for this to happen.
-
RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
Yeah I know just pointed it out.
I do not get the argument… He says each SH would sacrafize their dream for Luffy's dream but if Sanji does so he is somehow weak in mind LOL
But it's obvious that he has some strange look at thinks and ist biased as fuck in this case
He also claims that haki is measured in DON so… I think he just takes whatever theory he sees on YouTube.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Idk if it's because I'm drunk but who tf are you talking about here? ._.
He's talking about how because of him Luffy went to WCI, and because he crashed the wedding BM followed Luffy to Wano.
Which is actually a fair point. But Sanji DID say pre-TS that he's the one who's going to cause a storm in the NW. -
RE: Volume 94 Predictions/Discussion
All this time we were talking about power levels when we should have been talking about DON levels.
-
RE: Chapter 957: ULTIMATE
Hachinosu literally translates as "beehive" (蜂の巣). Hachinosu is also a figurative term to refer to something that is covered in little holes. Figuratively, something being "full of lead" has been shot full of holes. Shitty translations go literal, but the official translation understands beyond the word-level.
I wouldn't necessarily call it a bad translation, you could say that something's a beehive to describe that it's riddled with holes. Maybe a more common figure of speech would be to call it Swiss cheese.
But yes, the official translation does a better job at conveying the meaning of the name. -
RE: Chapter 925: The Blank
Because it is. It fits the theme of the Blackbeard Pirates, which revolves around trickery, cheating, backstabbing, and treachery.
I know, I know. But we already had Pica using tricks to fight Zoro and avoiding a direct confrontation, and it was pretty boring. Just hoped for more out of what's going to be one of Zoro's monumental fights. But I guess I just have to wait and see what Oda has planned.
-
RE: Chapter 925: The Blank
Love BB's design and Devon's fruit, but really hate Shilliew getting the invisibility fruit if he's up against Zoro. I'd rather Zoro beat someone who relies purely on power and skill. Making things invisible feels cheap. I wonder where Oda is going with this, since we already had a strawhat fight someone with that fruit. Maybe BB has a way to get rid of a DF ability to make room for another? (probably not)
-
RE: Chapter 920: For Love of Oden
Excuse me if it's been said already, but I just want to point something out:
We were just shown the rarest devil fruit in the entire world of OP.
Logia and mythical zoan might be rare as categories, meaning that if you manage to find a DF, there's a very low chance of it being in one of those categories, but they work just like any other fruit: if their user dies, it respawns. This means that every few decades, maybe a couple of centuries if the fruit was consumed be a giant, it becomes available for consumption again.
That's not the case with the Toki-Toki fruit. Assuming that the fruit can't respawn as long as its user will appear later in the timeline (otherwise it could create a situation in which there are two users of the same ability), this means that over the past hundreds of years (assuming she was born around the void century.. it could be millenia), across eras and wars, the last time the fruit was available for consumption was… just before Toki ate it somewhere in ancient history. -
RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
Then why does the Shandian Grounds stays right on top where it was before being launched to the sky right near Jaya? As if it never got away?
It stays right on top? I don't remember that. As I recall, the sky darkens because of Skypia's shadow, and it appears and disappears.
-
RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
@Monkey:
"It's a pattern!!!!
except for the huge part we skipped with the sky island"It's not a pattern.
You mean an arc about an isolated moving country, with its own unique species, two opposing leaders (who knew Roger) who made peace by the end of the arc, and a poneglyph at the peak of the island?
Yeah, I guess we didn't have that. -
RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
So it seems like Oda's continuing the analogy with the first half of the grand line, with this arc being a rescue mission revealing a strawhat's past, centered around a group of killers/assassins with a unique fighting style.
If Oda continues with this, we'll then have an arc that will take some elements from Thriller Bark. Since the only thing that really highlights this arc is it having a horror-house theme and being against a shichibukai, I'm going to assume the next arc will have Weevil (which is already theorized), along with some kind of a bizarre theme of its own. It might also provide some more info about Captain John's treasure, if it's still a plot point. -
RE: Chapter 826: 0 and 4
I doubt it because I consider them as being far stronger than Chopper, Nami, etc.
Partly because they're Sanji's siblings, and because they're supposed to be assassins, too.Ok, that's fair enough. I just want to point out that it's not our first group of highly trained assassins, and that while they're (Chopper, Nami…) not much compared to the big bosses of the NW, they are pretty strong, and will get several solo fights in the arcs to come.
-
RE: Chapter 826: 0 and 4
@Shobu:
Magellan has the poison fruit, what fruit could Reiji have?
Probably some poisonous butterfly zoan.
Her powers could be sucking poison out of different things to amplify her own poison. -
RE: Chapter 826: 0 and 4
I doubt Chopper could handle Yonji, or Nami Reiju, or even Brook Niji.
Why?
Not trying to defend my lineup, it was just something I threw in, but I can't see why they can't handle them, considering we don't know how strong they are. -
RE: Chapter 826: 0 and 4
Soo.. battle lineup?
Luffy vs. Papaji
Nami vs. Reiju
Sanji vs. Ichiji
Brook vs. Niji
Chopper vs. Yonji -
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
What ever the case if Luffy sees anything strange like that we all know his eyes will light up and he'll try to add it to the crew.
Probably not a tengu, he'll just be weirded out from seeing so many Ussops.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
Crocodile's case was actually different, but it look like he helped Luffy not because he's a good guy, but because Luffy reminds him of his younger self (and he subconciously just wanted to see that young gutsy boy he once was win against all odds).
Croc helped Luffy when their interests partially matched (going to the war, not letting the WG have their way), I think it was pretty explicit. He actually spent most of the battle acting against Luffy's interests (attacking the WB pirates).
Croc wasn't really Luffy's follower at any point, he always had his own thing going on. It's actually surprising how much focus there was on Croc during the war, with everything else that was going on. -
RE: Chapter 825: The WE Times' Comic Strip
Average reader: "Oh, yeah, there was no need to explain Luffy inhaling all of Caesar's instant death gas to no effect and almost dying here, because the various forms of just mercury have and LD50 of 50ug to 200mg, tad more then 3 orders of magnitude difference!" :ninja:
I think saying that the poison causes instant death was Oda's attempt at excusing Luffy's collapse. Like, it's really strong, but since Luffy has resistance to poison, he only collapsed instead of dying. Still a very blunt plot device, though.
-
RE: Dumb Predictions
Germa stands for Germany, so the leader and Sanji's father have moustache and is called Hitler.
Now that I think about it, Germa sounds a little like a twist of 'gourmet'. Could match Sanji's French theme.
-
RE: Chapter 825: The WE Times' Comic Strip
I'm curious what Big Mom has done with her sons. If she has any.
Sacrificed them to the white walkers.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
@Tamiel:
I hope Big Mom eats Ceasar so people stop mentioning his potential as a crewmate. Although, some might find hope, that she'll eventually fart him out again.
I'd say that BM should become a shredder for unnecessary characters, but I don't think Oda would keep him without a plan in mind. The only thing that comes to mind is Ceasar escaping, a cover series named something like "Ceasar's shorororo in the NW", and then meeting him again when it's time for VP to step in the main story.
-
RE: Chapter 825: The WE Times' Comic Strip
Anyone notices that the clothing that is been worn my G66 in the comic strip is the same one the one who we saw is wearing, the black cape at least. Now is leave me thinking if there are things we can clues we can get from that picture for chapters to come.
So far, they seem to me like a more sinister version of the revos.
-
RE: Chapter 825: The WE Times' Comic Strip
Yes i made that suggestion too. It is also not very clear why Big Mum choose Sanji as a groom when it should have been more easier with one of his brother.
Maybe they're already married :wassat:
Or maybe they decided to use the marriage to pull Sanji back to the family business
Or maybe, they decided to use Sanji because he's already a pirate. No need to downgrade the other brothers to mediators, when they are probably already important figures in the organization's leadership.EDIT: Reading your post again, you said BM chose the groom. Wouldn't the Vinsmokes choose who to marry on their side?
-
RE: Chapter 825: The WE Times' Comic Strip
Does anybody wonder how Pekoms was gonna convince Big Mom that he was just on the SH ship after stealing it or something? We don't know too much about Pekoms but I don't think it would be believable to have him say that he stole the ship or even defeated the SH by himself…
I think showing them an incapacitated Luffy would do the trick.
-
RE: Chapter 825: The WE Times' Comic Strip
@Elektrik:
Is that Chopper in heavy point mode next to Pekoms in that top panel on the last page? I guess he said get in disguise, but I really didn't recognize him from behind, but I don't know who else it could be because it doesn't look like anyone else on the ship
Yeah, his clothes match, and he also has this weird fur on his neck.
On another note, the strawhats will probably get escorted to the wedding by Germa. They ARE guests on the groom's side, with them already being invited back on Zou.
-
RE: Chapter 825: The WE Times' Comic Strip
That door was without a doubt the best thing to happen in the entire series.
-
RE: Chapter 824: Little Pirate Games
Four assumptions in one line that doesn't say much. If you don't want to continue the conversation then don't.
-
RE: Chapter 824: Little Pirate Games
He fought with his sword his entire life and prefers to use it even when using a devil fruit ability. That shouldn't be so weird if you think about it. He's a blind man who probably uses a sword as it's a part of his body. And we know that devil fruits can be used in conjuction with weapons. If Zoro got a devil fruit that allowed him to create friction, for example, would he stop using his swords when using the ability or would he incorporate it into his fighting style?
Using his ability in conjunction with his sword would be something like pulling his enemy in and then slicing him with the sword. Instead he uses his powers with seemingly unnecessary gestures, which is what Evo is trying to say.
-
RE: Game of Thrones (tv show thread)
Either way, I'm curious to hear how show-only folks felt about the reintroduction of the Greyjoys. Euron was playing up the megalomania and being a total drama queen but I enjoyed the staging nonetheless.
Didn't really feel anything about it. Euron will now get his turn to rock the boat (pun maybe intended) in the north (maybe after Ramsay royally fails at being "Lord Bolton"), and Asha probably won't get the throne now.
EDIT: Just got majory spoiled about the Iron Islanders from the wikipedia page about the sixth book. How stupid of me.
