Sanji is primarily a cook so you kind of get the 2 year improvement of his skill during the Wholecake Island arc shown when they were making that wedding cake. Haha.
Given their trainings, and how it was heavily implied that Sanji's role within the crew is not to be the third strongest but rather be the crew's source of nutricious food via his cooking, being the third strongest within the crew is a bonus given that he's strong to begin with. And he is not like Luffy and Zoro whose primary role is to be strong and defeat enemies, anyway.

But they are still getting stronger though his growth in terms of power would be a bit behind compared to Zoro and Luffy.
Jinbe on the other hand is already that powerful member of the crew. He could possibily be still the second strongest among the Strawhats..

edit: on a side note, Sanji's three brothers and sister were raised as assassins and powerful fighters and he's almost on par with them without using raid suits.. there's no doubt that he's become strong after the time skip but he's not become roronoa zoro strong or monkey d luffy strong.

lol what bonus? That is like saying zoro as the second strongest is also the bonus. The thing is oda always portrayed sanji as the third fighter of SHP . Sanji joined the trio monster showoff like when the trio fought pacifista pre-timeskip, one-shotted pacifista , fought kraken ; and sanji was the guy to always be portrayed as the equivalent rival of zoro .
It just felt like sanji nowadays are used as hype fodders for strong villains and sidelined to give more spotlight to other characters .

Sanji being a great cook is something very to be expected . I myself don't find that impressive , especially since action and adventure is the focus of the story , not cooking . Would just read shokugeki no soma for that since it has more exploration on that topic . Nami also has been a great navigator since pre-timeskip like when she could predict incoming storm.

We all know sanji would still lose to zoro even with the raid suit . So, the raid suit is like a plot device only for sanji to lessen the gap between him and zoro ? Not to mention that would ironically only prove what judge said about technology for combat , is true then .

i like oda but goddamn he overwanked zoro and fodderized sanji too much

yeah naruto actually had a good idea to make non-linear villains like obito or sasuke . The issue is that kishimoto failed to execute the idea well . It's hard to do that , though , so it's understandable . Oda also has failed executing some ideas in his story as well (like the sanji plot on recent WCI) .

First of all , it's weird to see how sanji thought luffy would just nod his head in peace when sanji said he might not join SHP anymore . Like , goddamn , sanji was there on enies lobby to save robin . Sanji knew luffy is the guy who would even declare a war with World Government for his nakama …. and Luffy never listens to excuses. At least it would be more understandable if at least sanji explain the circumstances about his situation to luffy (the issue with baratie , and his cuffed hands) but sanji acted like robin (I thought sanji is supposed to be the 'smart' guy compared to zoro?)

I mean , yeah i know that he made a great cake for big mom , but the thing is we all already know that sanji is a good cook . Sanji is always potrayed , most of the time , as a fighter too just like zoro and luffy (alabasta , skypiea , enies lobby , thriller bark ...) so of course we would expect some actions from his. And his best feats from this arc is only avoiding a bean shot from katakuri (yeah i know he gave some kicks to oven but oven wasn't really the top fighters on WCI though)
And big mom is a food lover so it's not something uncommon . Now , if sanji could stop ace's execution by making the admirals have orgasm to his food , now that would be surprising .

I think my criticism is that 2 years after training, he is weak and needs a suit to power him up a bit. I would be fine if he's had some demonstration that he's more powerful, the only thing we got was him destroying a pacifista like it was nothing. agree. Sanji needing a germa suit to power up just make his timeskip training looked inadequate whereas he need external help for him.
Also , sanji would be better off without the technology since that would he is above the technology now (surpassing all his family members who used to be better at him) .
