Just finished watching film gold seriously anyone who doesn't think this the greatest one piece movie of them all must be high on crack, it's huge huge jump from all the other movies before it, maninly due to the super jam tight script chuck full of surprise and emotions.
+jam packed exciting script that doesn't miss a beat, best script in one piece movie.
Felt like One peice X Oceans Eleven = Best one piece movie by far imo.
I said this in that episode's thread, but I do wonder if the recent trend in Zo where he's been doing a lot more lower-key character animation than he's done in the past is a sign that one of these days he's going to follow in Ito's, Takara's, and Matsuda's footsteps and be promoted to animation director.
yeah i agree it feels like his taking the same route as takra & ito where those guys where animating like half or two thirds of an episode before gearing up to take up the animation director role (ito did most harjrudin vs vise & takara luffy & doffy haki clash).
So, I just learned that neither Kohei Tanaka or Shiro Hamaguchi composed the music for Film Gold but rather Yuki Hayashi who did the music for My Hero Academia. Were Hamaguchi and Tanaka just too busy with the anime's soundtrack for Zou onward to work on it or did they decide to not waste their time scoring music that wouldn't benefit them by appearing in the anime due to it being on a record label than Avex? Or are they even composing the anime's music anymore? I love their score for the series so I'd really like to know
well they actually been a lot more active then in the past when making new music for One piece., in the last few years one piece has featured a lot new music scores which have never been featured in any movie.
they recently released the new world soundtrack which features 66 new tracks by kohei tanaka & shiro hamaguchi which covers new tracks from fishmen island, punk hazard,dressrosa,3d2y special, episode of sabo, heart of gold, Zou and quite a lot of tracks which have yet to be used the anime yet.
wow Keiichi Ichikawa animation director for episode of sabo & heart of gold is working on tv anime as an animation director, teamed up with serise director Toshinori Fukuzawa.
Yasunori Koyama last episode was hot fire, him teamed up with Atsuko Kawamura sounds great.
cool line up, i want to see more of midor matsuda next time.
Damn nekomushi blocked jack knifes with his smoke pipe.
The filler fighting was excellent best part of the episode, cool cat viper fighting animated by kazuya hisada(thinks so) and duke dog by mitsui yochi.
Episode was better then the chapter it was based on imo.
Its not that the director is good but rather the content itself…and of cource the amazing soundtrack

I dont think one piece is more consistent(especially dressrosa) than naruto(i can accept dbs though)...despite the obvious flaws of the anime...i think the surpervision of the episodes is lacking unlike pre-time skip...also as i was searching the staff of the older and recent dressrosa episodes on animator's corner...i noticed that a lot of episodes have like 20 animators and others 5 or 6 only...but the overall quality is the same if not better...and i dont know why...in any case a major problem of the animation(and direction) specifically is that it doesnt have a signature/top dog animation director(im not focusing on key animators)…what i mean is that unlike naruto who has yamashita or bleach who had kudo…one piece doesnt have any noteworthy directors like it used to(inoue, koizumi, tate, ichizuka)…the most recent arcs showcase the change of the animation system over the years...although we have had some good sakugas here and there...the show lacks consistent quality(like ep 404 for example)...the same could be said for seasonal anime... but unlike seasonal anime , which have more consistent animators and the change of animation style doesnt really stand out(making the episode smoother), one piece is very messy on that aspect...its true that one piece always had a number of animators working on an ep(like every series) but the inconsistency hasnt been on the same scale as today
Cleary you must of missed out on the new hotness that is takara isamu with his hyper detailed clothing, skin & muscles on characters and shuchi ito high qulity soild art.
Takara isamu & shuchi ito are as great as any of the top dog animation directors even know there pretty new animation directors, there still beast animation directors that are growing very fast.
Do you really prefer Ueda's pre-timeskip episodes?
Ueda name is all over some the greatest one piece episode ever, his got two of the best time skip episode under his belt, fisher tiger decided to return kola back to her home and sabo eats the fire fruite & ussop becomes god ussop.
One piece episode 541
Such beautiful executed scene, a tone death director like takashi otsuka could never pull this off even within there dream, ueda isn't the best but his not as bad some make him out to be, in the same way 99% of big name anime director aren't as good as there made out to be.
One piece episode 678 - how many great epic scenes can an episode have.
Dressrosa had a ton of episode with great animation and much better direction then what's been shown so far in Zou, it's just that One piece fan has super short term memory they can only remember 1 episode ago at most.
I like how sleek the shark looks like his from a western cartoon.
wow who the hell knew Yasunori Koyama was this good, some really great storyboarding and direction through out the whole episode.
loved the wanda & corrot shinningy eyes scene.
Great art, animation, storyboarding, directing and content.
much better then already good episode from last week.
+lots of animation sakuga from tomita, takara isamu and yochi mitsui.
really pretty art episode, but this episode is a prime example why don't like Takashi Otsuka, his the weakest episode director on One piece( the man doesn't know how to do hype), still good episode but any other episode director on One piece could made a better introduction for carrot.
Wish we could trade him for karasawa kazuya (the newbie who made those amazing action episode on world trigger).
For people interested, Toei Animation just released the 1st Quarter Financial Report and in its "Efforts for Medium and Long term Growth" they placed this:
With Google Translation I take that they are going to Establish a Planning-Production Headquarters and so Integrate the Planning and Production departments, improving the Production Schedule and the quality of their works.
This,
Strengthening the planning capabilities of original works
. One Piece, Dragon Ball,
. New Sales Pillar of Precure Franchise
. Next Original Works
. Continual planning and production(?)Also seems like that Toei Animation has multiple Overseas animation Projects in progress.
Cool, it's good see them invest to improve production schedule and there quality.
we probably won't the the out come for quite some time.
Where is da goat Komaki aya?
Could she be busy directing the next tv special to end all specials?
wow I didn't notice this episode had no intro.
Film Gold:
Assistant Directors: Hiraike, Sonoda
Otsuka also did some of the direction jobs for help.
Hiraike is awesome so is Sonoda & otsuka, GOLD has a much stronger team of directors than Film Z(nagamine & kureta kohei).
I don't understand the love for zephyr his excution was alright but not that perfect, Burndy World had a much stronger backstory that was more developed, which 3d2y explored a lot more then FILM Z did for Zephyr. I haven't seen Gold but Brundy world is the villian to beat, second being Zephry then Gasparde(from movie 4).
I would say I perefer each in a certain area. as an animation director = I would choose nobru kozumi cartoon like style his episode tend to have a lot frames in it's action scenes and strong object scenario(check that super good looking table ware & knifes) and his character are expersive. Key Animation = kazuya hisada loved his action scenes in marine ford character design = Masayuki Sato strongly follows oda current art the most.
I don't think kozumi did thriller bark the last episode he worked on was mid way through enis lobby(last being the opening), I think that was kazuya hisada. oda art keeps changing over time, kozumi art more closer to early oda art but kazuya hisda more closer to mordern. Masayuki Sato has 2+ years of production time, a mega movie budget and other animation directors behind him so I don't think it's fair to compare.
the best part about these specials is that Toei gives different staff the chance to lead these projects so they keep feeling fresh unlike there 90s shounen movie where 1 or 2 director would have an iron grib on there movie projects.
wow I was actually right, I placed my money on Keiichi Ishikawa(episode of sabo) guy being the chief animation director due to the way the girl with blonde hair looked(she looks like she from the later part of saint seiya omega). Waiting for this special to be in 1080p before watching. Nice to see Kozum nobru back on One piece after so many years.
bad news Crunchyroll is not picking it up :( Good news shitting funimation stream also not picking it up. :D
what's up with the lack of advertisement for this special(just 1 pv over 3 weeks ago), looks there far too busy going all out advertising FILM Gold.
This was actually pretty good episode the direction & framing was interesting, new ep director Fujita Kentaro is improving (just two bad close ups but most of art was good),lots of interesting content(law vs kinemon team up, barto fangasm, pesta laughing at everyone, zoro action and desire is a pretty cool character).
Dressrosa arc had Some new guys I've never heard about, Sera Yamaguchi and Midori Matsuda put out some great work (also loved Sera blue sketch style punch for Franky vs senoir fight). Not sure what got into Akihiro Ota in this arc dude has been on fire lately (l uffy & law being eaten by that toy and kryo arcobatic sword fight with diamante was too good). Dressrosa was the arc where the new guys developed themselfs to fill in the gap left by the old guard imo. Great work Murad loved it.
Glad you enjoyed it.Would you say it lives up to the hype?
As much as i am hyped for this, it doesn't look like it will surpass movie 6.
I though movie 6 was one of weaker movies(try too had to be dramatic, character acting out of character, worst cg,background and character design), I remember back when it first came out the interenet hated that movie but after the director behind it made a name for himself(making bad movies imo), it suddenly became hip/cool to like movie. My favorite are 2,4,7,9, strong world and Z. 4 boat race was the most fun too watch and cool as fan 7 treasure hunt story is the most intriguing and funny one to watch along with 4. 9 is the best directed and well made(shooting the flag scene still give me goosebumps) Strong world and Film z are the epic, ridiculously gorgeous ones and has the best action in the serise of movies. 3D2Y special imo is as good as any of the movies(Brundy is the best antagonist of the bunch).
From every bit of news I've read about this movie, every interview I've read and media I've watched, it looks like this movie will surpass all 12 last movies by large margin.
The team behind it, set out with that goal in mind and I think they may have done it.
Someone has uploaded Episode 0 on Vimeo, but I'm pretty sure Toei will delete it sooner or later.
Jesus christ anime lewd bullshit is always disgusting, this was the same for last phone special for film z.
sumo wrestling match was pretty cool and it looked great, wonder who directed it.
these special have become an excuse for Yoshikazu tomita to draw boobs.
Esaku inoue seems to do most of the ads for one piece.
Looks like yochi mitsu did the luffy vs ussop sumo fight (this is pretty much easku inoue old team)
Is it my phone or does the preview for the next episode looks good.
That opening's going to be pretty awkward after
! Jack gets WTFPWND.
Song was pretty good, but the stranglehold of "Straw Hats goofing around on the Sunny" continues. The trend set by Wake Up! of the end section having arc-relevant shots seems to be continuing, but it looks like the shots were sampled from the upcoming episodes themselves this time instead of being specially-drawn. Probably cheaper that way.
going to wait for decent quality before make up my mind, from the animator line up it doesn't looks as Star studded as Hard knock days.
the Takara isamu cut of the straw hats fight is really great, dude is becoming my fav new animator.
I can't see shit, the quality soo bad.
will wait for decent quality before making an opinion on it.
that barrel man scares me.
he looks like something out the those creapy wheeler from return to wizard of OZ
his smirk of his hides pure evil. Can someone please tell me how i can put a picture for my profile/avatar?

C'mon toei… really?...why can't you just make it a prologue of three eps... The show needs FILLERS GODDAMNIT
Looks like your getting the filler you wished for.
Seen movie 6 few times I don't even remember the ed song(relisten still remember), probably one of the weakest ed songs in op and We go was the most dissapointing Opening allround.
Am not expecting to like it but am hopeing for the best.
Reading this new Kappei Yamaguchi interview, there was this:
"Kappei: In previous movies and in the anime, each member of the Straw Hat would typically take on each member of the opponent’s team until Luffy faced the final boss. Things will be different this time around. I think the tactful team battle should be satisfying to watch."
I guess it explains why the match ups weren't very clear yet.
This movie keeps sound like more and more like the stuff of dreams.
What I like about otsuka his seems to be a big shounen fan with his love for action, but I don't like about him is the man has no clue how to us sound or music it's embarrassing how weak he is in that aspect compared to everyone else.
His not really that active but I did love his haikyuu single episode, one piece 616 & 609.
521 and his 15th anniversary opening ussop luffy chasing a gold beetle & his fan fiction fights is always embarrassing to watch.
Also he hasn't showmen me his able to do a more somber emotional episode like the others have done.
Would love for him to do an a tv special but I don't think his anywhere near as good people are making him out to be, especially compared to his peers who are more well rounded in there skills then him.
So this is what a really good storyboard can do to an episode, please stick with One piece Otsuka
Otsuka is nothing special, there are several director and storyboarders on rotaton far better then him.
Anime did a great job reminding you why Fujitora is a monster.
Raging Tiger!!
Nagamine was just confirmed as the director.
Illustration looks like Watanabe to me, though a few others on Twitter were theorising it may be Hayashi.
Welp, My hype is dead, I really don't care about Nagamine(I like him better as a episode director), I was hopeing some of other good director got a chance like komaki aya or Hiraike Ayako or Nakashima Yutaka.
The big news is that the same screenwriter (Tsutomu Kuroiwa) whose working on the script for Film Gold is also doing the script for this special which is very impressive as it means it would be more cohesive with the One piece Film gold.
Omg dat poster, those character designs and straw hat outfits…I think am more excited for the tv special then the movie right now, for example I enjoyed 3D2Y special a lot more then the Film Z movie.
Burndy world character story > Zed
I hope this TV special finally gives us the Dream of Seeing Komaki Aya direct a special.
One Piece Film Gold TV Special. Airing 7/16

Jesus christ at dat front cover and those character designs, I think am more excited for the special then am for the movie right now.
When did these two get backlash? Their episodes always looked great.
The episode that tend to have animation directors whoese styles that stray from the norm are the episode that get the most hate, even know they maybe the best looking episode, for example naruto shippuden 167 is the most hated naruto episode for it's animation dispite it being one of better animated episode.
I run into the same problem with a friend who keeps expecting Naruto Shippuden to have this gorgeous budget when, in my view, when the show is at it's worse with animation it still looks on model and decent. I think the modern anime fan has been conditioned to have high expectations when you have series like Kill La Kill, Hunter X Hunter (modern), FMA Brotherhood, One Punch Man and My Hero Academia knocking it out of the ballpark with TV animation. They weren't raised in the era where that was the exception and not the norm. For example, my generation of anime fandom we had TV budgets and OAV/Movie budgets. After the horrid "digipaint" era of the late 90's through the mid-2000s the OAV market seemed to be less relevant since TV budgets gradually improved. Problem is this created a new kind of sensitivity and criticism with TV budgets, especially in the modern internet era, where we are able to track various animation directors, key animators and in-betweeners work very meticulously.
I do agree that by even modern standards Dragonball Super is low budget, especially given the legacy of the property both here and in Japan. Still I appreciate One Piece's overall effort to be more consistent and how they constantly develop everyone on their animation staff. If you really think about many of the veteran and current animators have grown through this series its actually quite amazing. I think those of us who keep criticizing the animation expecting it to get better, and ignoring the present quality, maybe it's better if they retire from the show and go to greener pastures instead of giving the same tired rhetoric that just inhibits any healthy discussion about the show.
I think it's a lot more to do with peoples lack of understanding of animation for example the most amazing looking naruto episode are usually the episode that get ridiculed the most compared to it's average looking ones, same with one piece any episode by naoki tate, esaku inoue, noboru kozumi, katsumi ishizu(top animation directors) are usually the ones that would get the most backlash instead of standard on modlel looking episodes.
The fans want a show that looks the same every week instead of having all these different art styles by different animators, even if it animates like a rock.
by the way kill la kill is the odd one out in your list, 70% of that anime is draggin stills, reapting 2 frames very fast, reycleing and traceing over old animation.
Boku no hero is soild show with great art but nothing remarkable animation wise.
Hunter x hunter 2011 is an unexplained phenomena it's 140 episode anime that looks better as it goes on and looks better then most 13 episode only animes, it should be the level of quality animes should aim for.
What I got to commend toei for is that they really develop there talent, every arc you see there directors, animation directors, key animators really improve there skills or some new animator surfaces to impress everyone. It's no suprise some of the most well known directors and animators had there beginings at toei.
Amazing episode the art and animation was beautifual from start to finish.
Great start for takara isamu.
Dressrosa may have the most amount of sakuga but thats because compared to most of the other arcs it has twice the amount of eps… + more sakuga doesnt mean better sakuga... Aside from shida and tomita... all the other good key animators that had previously worked for the series either did rushed animations or did 5-10 seconds scenes with no importance… All the rest(including major scenes) were done by underpaid(i assume) subpar animators
Rush job? animators like takeshi nishino, shintani, takara isamu, kodai wantabe, shuchi ito and akihiro ota brought there A game to the dressrosa arc and toei went far enough to hire outside animators like takashi kojima.
shintani
takeshi nishino
Kodai watanbe
Akihro ota
oh shiiiiiit the next episode in preview animation looks super great.
Looks like next episode going to have lots of great animation.
Does anyone know who animated Zoro flying scene? Horisawa Satoshi? he did work on the episode.
