    • RE: Chapter 671: The Gas-Gas Fruit

There's no way it's Vegapunk. They would just spend several pages in the earlier chapters outlining how Vegapunk and Caesar Clown don't get along only to should them teamed up. Also why would Caesar be after Franky's laser if he's working with Vegapunk. It's not him. Given all the information revealed about Vegapunk so far, I really doubt Oda would introduce him as an enemy.

I thought Aokiji from appearance, but Aokiji has never been sinister… so I doubt it.

So, the only reasonable candidates are:

      • Someone new.

      • Joker (There is literally no real information about this Joker character, so for all practical purposes it falls into the "someone new" category)

      • Kaido: I'd actually forgotten about this guy, but when someone mentioned him I looked him up, and other than a barely visible silhouette of his head there is no information about his appearance. Additionally one of his affiliates was a Cyborg... so maybe he's a sciencey-type character which could be a possible connection with Caesar.

      @Neomaster121:

      Thank you

well im talking about the water pressure which nearly destroyed frankys submarine luffy robin and brookes

As am I. There is only one kind of pressure.

Despite one piece being a work of fiction your statement was very silly.

The reason blades are able to cut is because the impart an amount of force over a very small area.

Example: You can stand on a soda can without damaging it. Take a needle and with much less force you can poke holes in the can destroying it, while using much less force than that imparted by the weight of your whole body.

Another example: You can have Mike Tyson wailing on a punching bag, with the force of the punches being powerful enough to kill a man, and the bag still wont break. Give a little kid a really sharp sword and he/she will fuck that bag up.

      i just had a thought

Zoro cut the ship but he did more than just cut the ship

it was coated in the jelly which was touched by robin and said to be ble to with stand the high pressures of the ocean

So Zoro's single slash was more powerful than the depth of the ocean minimum

I thought the same thing as the original poster, and agree completely right up until what he says this:

      @Zephos:

Epilouge One last thought to leave you with.
If Luffy finding One Piece was the only goal.
      That would suck ass.
Even just being Pirate King, would suck.

      Why?

Because essentially the entire series would be Luffy doing what somebody already did. Its like Oda making a manga series just like Dragonball.

If One Piece is the Rio Poneglyph than there is a second step. One that Roger didn't manage to do. Act upon the information, and more or less bring the government down.

To really make the series fulfilling, Luffy must SURPASS Roger. Not just follow in his footsteps. He must do what roger could not.
Finding the One Piece is not enough..

The series is about the journey, and what is at the end of the line isn't as important as the trials and tribulations required in getting there. And while it might make an interesting addendum to the series it is completely unnecessary. However, with characters like Dragon and the Revolutionaries in the mix, I don't doubt the strong possibility of what Zephos predicted. However, it is far less concrete than the rest of his post.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Aokiji ever got within physical striking range of WB. WB used his DF ability to attack AK, but with Akainu, he was able to do a haki-filled physical attack which can harm logia.

I was wondering about that as well it has happened twice so Oda is foreshadowing here. I looked around and all i could find is that there are types of glaciers called surge-type glaciers that basically store up water pressure then explode at high velocity speeds allowing them to move at around 10 times the normal rate…it is a bit of a long shot but maybe that is what this ability is based on.

Maybe it's just the kind of movement that Rob Lucci and other CP9ers use, I mean he is an admiral afterall. I don't see why it's anything so unusual.

Here's to hoping the Dr. Vegapunk doesn't turn out to be lame, considering how much he has been built up through this series. (That is if he is ever actually personally introduced)

Also it's really weird/ annoying to see people still talking about One Piece character fighting ability in a tiered sense, and attempting to apply the transitive property (ie if A defeated B and B defeated C, A must be able to beat C). I think there has been enough evidence in One Piece, to indicate that it does NOT work like that.

EDIT: Also a random suggestion for Croc getting hit… Maybe Logia users have to consciously make themselves permeable (and maybe for the super advanced guys it's second nature), and since Croc exclaimed that Jos was fkn fast for such a big guy, he just didn't see the attack coming, and he couldn't sand-ify himself fast enough? I mean there are plenty of other possibilities, including but not limited to Oda not giving a shit about certain details.

I understand that is their work , and they need to have credits, i am very happy for having the manga scanned so i can read, but i think their attitude is wrong, they didnt draw the manga, its not like they suddenly have own it just because they scanned

I think it has more to do with the fact the most of the people in the scanlating community hate OneManga in particular as a site, since it takes the very first available scanlation and posts it up, resulting in an online archive of typically all the crappiest scanlations available.

This is in contrast to say Binktopia's own online reader at Mangashare, which posts the fastest scans, but then usually updates them with the higher quality ones as they come out (although for some god forsaken reason they don't prioritize Cnet's translations which are clearly above and beyond other translations for the same series').

    • RE: Chapter 555 "Oars and kasa" Discussion

Best chapter this arc in my opinion. I think Oda did a good job inserting those flash back panels, since it's no longer just unknowns taking the fall (I know, I know, he's a decendent of Oars and all, but I don't think that was enough to make him that relevant). This way his sacrifice feels a little more powerful, although Oda has a nasty habit of making great sacrifice seem not-that-great later on by not having people die (read PELL).

Also, after reading this chapter, I'm really hoping that maybe Don Flamingo isn't a DF user (unlikely, I know) and he's just really skillful with his weapons which are thin wires or something.

Kuma, really doesn't seem like he's doing a whole lot. I mean he could've saved a lotta trouble by blasting off shitloads of people, or even Oars Jr. (I mean he did it to Big Chopper), but we've already seen him in action quite a lot, so it's not a big deal.

      P.S. Boa rox.
P.P.S. Where'd Ao Kiji go? (He like made a giant fighting rink, attacked WB once and gave up.)

      EDIT:
      @herr_sebbe:

And Oars is clearly not dead, judging by Oda standards. The fodder of Thriller Bark could survive Ursus shock; chopping the foot off a giant has been shown not to be all that deadly by Brogy; and Moria simply stabbed him.

What are you referring to? I quickly jumped back to chap 129 (the last appearance of Dorry/Broggy) and they both seem to have 2 legs…

However, I feel like it is important for translators to write it as a proper noun, by perhaps making it "Ambition" (quotes and all). The force argument really grew on me.

That stuff aside, with the first actual simulcast coming up, I'm looking for some feedback from people who have watched the streams already posted. How does subbing quality compare to current fansub groups like, say Yibis?

I deem that chakra should be properly translated from now on, to something like

      "Spiritual Wheel"

Naruto uses the energy from his spiritual wheels to make his ninja attacks. Similarly shit like "jutsu" is also left untranslated.

There is precedent for leaving things untranslated. Over time people will gather its further meanings.

Also, in One Piece haki DOES NOT mean ambition. (There is more to meaning than literal translation)

      Main Entry: am·bi·tion
      Pronunciation: \am-ˈbi-shən
      Function: noun
1 a : an ardent desire for rank, fame, or power b : desire to achieve a particular end
2 : the object of ambition <her ambition="" is="" to="" start="" her="" own="" business="">3 : a desire for activity or exertion <felt sick="" and="" had="" no="" ambition="">Please, explain to me the last time you were able to knock someone out with your ardent desire for fame.

Haki in One Piece means something more than just ambition or willpower. Just like with words like "jutsu" and "chakra" people will come to realize its true nature, just as soon as Oda gets around to properly addressing (or if they are smart, before that).</felt></her>

      @Demon:

No, it's not worth giving up the Simulcast and OVERALL FUNi is still better.

But it IS worth writing Toei over.

To those who think we're overreacting, THINK about it. when Fansubs leave something new untranslated, they usually have a note at the top of the screen.
FUNi does NOT, so when THEY leave something untranslated, the viewer has no Idea what it means.

So now, in the FUNi subs, "Haki" means nothing, it's just One Piece's version of Chakra.
Wheras in Japanese, Oda specifically used the Japanese word for "Ambition" for a reason.

He hasn't REVEALED that reason yet, but a writer doesn't do things like this for no reason.

      Take a step back for a second…

What does knowing that "Haki" is in fact a manifestation of a character's Ambition and/or Willpower add to the story?

Through all his actions viewers should have already realized that Luffy is in fact a character with amazing willpower and ambition! (I mean he is introduced as a character who defiantly announces that he will become the Pirate King, to much incredulity of other characters)

In the long run does it really matter that haki is infact a physical manifestation willpower, as opposed to some other magical bodily force like "chakra" in Naruto?

Consider if chakra in Naruto, were actually based on willpower or a character's ambition (of which the character Naruto has plenty) would the narrative really change at all?

Honestly for a translation it is more weird to say that a character just knocked out another, with his grand ambitions, than to make it a proper-noun and call it some fancy power. Sure it's a fun fact that Oda decided to have their powers based on their ambition, but it quite honestly does not add a whole lot. We already know that Luffy is ambitious.

Also, anyone who cares enough to know all the further meanings of "haki" either already know what it is, or can trivially look it up.

Is this really an issue to raise holy hell about?

Random question… Is Akainu's design supposed to be after some real world person (like Borsalino who is based on Kunie Tanaka)?

Because his appearance seems really absurd by One Piece standards, he doesn't look like he's of that world lol.
