I think you haven't realize that he has an important part to play himself.
next to the room he is in (maybe 2-3 rooms difference, but it must be very close), monster chopper went out of control. sanji will be the one stopping him from destroying the whole building.

so, will the straw hats go to the giants' island (can't remember the name) one day, and fight some of them?
we all know that luffy, zorro and sanji, maybe robin too, can easily beat a normal giant.

if you haven't notice,
in the last few matches, the author always show the growth of one or two players, whom will be the key players in that match. it's not like that the huhhuh brothers haven't had much presence, the other players are the one shining.
this match, it looks like it will be kurita and yuki turn to shine.
but if they win this, who will be their opponent?
the gunmen, which have a very strong offense!
it is very likely that it will be huh huh brothers's turn to grow at that match…....
and for sena growth, we have to wait for the last game, against the white knight.....

after he finish a ball, it is still in his body,not fully digested yet.
and he can't take more than one.
that's why he's limited to the 3 min…..
which lead me to believe that he has to fight without relying to the ball now.

I think chopper will get his power up in a few chapters.
remember, he used his rumble ball, so if he has to fight again, he has to do it without the rumble ball.

forget about trying for speed.
no matter how fast you are, someone will beat you to it. as you can see from bleach or naruto, some people will be able to release a bad scanlation an hour after the raw is out anyway.
but even with their super slow release, null scanlation is still the most downloaded OP scanlation, why is that? because they have the best quality.

while some of you might disagree that dragon will appear,
I have to remind you that even after the strawhat beat cp9, they still have to save themselves from the buster call, with puffing tom as their only way to leave the area. not a good way, as the marines can just destroy the track.
so they are pretty much trapped there unless some outsider with misterious power (dragon, whoelse :D)save them.
and remember, buster call sign can be seen from far away, maybe dragon saw then and decided to come and check?

so now finally paulie fans can agree that franky will join??
I mean think about it, oda won't waste so much page developing franky relations with each nakama( luffy, sanji, robin, soge, chopper, 5 out of 7) if he is just a side character.

I agree this is sogeking, not ussop. just look at the last chapter and you would notice the difference. instead of running away or faking death, he actually decided to take jyabura on.

Sanji wasn't the best cook (OR the best fighter,) he was second in both. Same for Chopper.

And if Paulie was chosen, it wouldn't come down to that ANYway. Franky'd stay behind and Paulie would come along. The thought of taking Franky along would never enter Luffy's mind. After all, WHAT has Franky done to prove he's such a good shipwright to the Straw Hats? NOTHING.

WE know he's an awesome shipwright. Usopp has an inkling, and only because he'd overhear Lucci talking about Tom's Workers, but he's never seen Franky's work. But nobody else even knows he IS one.

Paulie, on the other hand, is a foreman of Galley-La. They know he's good.

I think Franky'll be the crewmate, don't get me wrong. I just don't agree with your reasons.

1. about sanji, he was the best, except if you counted the chef in his prime time, which is impossible except if luffy can find a time machine to bring his leg back.

Paulie saved the life of Luffy, Zoro, Nami and Chopper in Water 7 when the Aqua Laguna came, and helped the Strawhats in Eneas Lobby. In the current episodes, he can appear again and help in the fight against CP9.

by your argument, ace should have joined. he saved luffy after all.

He'll have to resort to some of his more mundane attacks, which are those that pretty much duplicate Luffy's and Usopp's.

See, this is another thing that I'm not sold on for this reason:

The rest of the crew, while incredibly skilled at their respective roles, are nowhere near the top of their fields. They'll be at the top by the time the series ends, but that's still an incredibly long way off.

How does Franky develop? He's almost at the top anyway, so it's not like he has to go on some amazing voyage around the world to master his craft like the rest of the crew.

His goal is to build a ship capable of sailing to the end of the world, not that he sail with it. His goal doesn't require that he leave Water 7 and neither does building the ship for the future Pirate King as Tom built the Oro Jackson without accompanying Roger.

The rest of the Straw Hats all have goals that require them to sail the world and improve their skills in their fields. Barring Franky building them a temporary ship and then rebuilding another one later, how does he accomplish either as a Straw Hat?

Oda may do just that, but I'm not sure I like the sound of them switching ships again down the road. It's hard enough to believe that he could ever replace Merry, but adding another ship down the road is only going to remind us more of the ship that they used to have. It's best that the first half of the series be with the Merry and the second with her replacement as we're never going to get used to a new ship otherwise.

At this point, Franky seems much more likely to join, but there's a wealth of potential in Paulie that simply doesn't exist in Franky.

um… building a ship is unlike swinging a sword....
you can practice your sword skill thousand times a day, and one day you might be the best swordman on earth.
will a carpenter be able to do that? no. in fact if a carpenter join, he has to have another skills, as he won't fix the ship that often anyway. franky can be used for funny scenes, has decent fighting skills, while paulie, I can't think of anything that can't be done by other nakama that he can do.
and what wealth of potential of paulie? sorry but he is one of the most plain character in this arc. he looks somehow like smoker, his fighting skills are boring, his relationship with iceburg is like sanji-chef all over again (in fact a scene of him leaving iceburg will looks almost the same), his relationship with girls is the exact opposite of sanji, etc etc.

Leokeren, your points, quite frankly, aren't much of points at all. The only one that holds any weight is the second one.

1. He's clever, look at what he did to that giant. And he sure helped pull a number on Baskerville. He's not weak, that's for sure, probably the strongest of all the Galley-La, who are, in turn, stronger than the FF. He's just not on the level of Sanji or Zoro or Luffy, though it hasn't been shown that he'd be weaker than the others.

2. Point given.

3. So what? It'd just be a position open to the next crew member. Heck, it'd be a nice running gag if they never get one.

4. He's not Franky, but he's STILL one of the best of the best. And besides, where is it shown that he can't build ships by himself? That's just assumption on your part, and I'd argue it's a bad assumption at that.

5. So what? That might be an argument for Franky, but hardly one AGAINST Paulie. You say yourself Oda might surprise us by not throwing in anybody, or throwing in the Square Sisters…. how do THEY look like that picture? And how would they fit in with your other points at all?

Your points are... well, contradictory. You're arguing that somebody other than Franky or Paulie will join, but ALL your points are simply pro-Franky, not against Paulie. So your points argue against yourself, since all of them can apply to anybody EXCEPT Franky as well.

I said that IF the choice is between those two, then it will surely be franky.
but oda might surprise us. but there is no way that paulie will join. not when franky is much better choice.

1. if he can't handle someone who is beaten by sanji in 1 panel, he doesnt deserve to be a nakama.

4.the point is that he is the second best choice. why settle for second best? every single one of the nakama is special… do you really think luffy will says "oh well franky is better but I don't want him so let's settle with paulie??"

IF someone will join between those two, it will be franky.
off course, oda might surprise us by making the new nakama someone totally unpredictable like the square sisters,or no one will join, etc.
however it WON'T be paulie.
here's why:
1. he is weak. way too weak. in this eanias lobby arc he is having trouble fighting those who will be killed by sanji, let alone zorro or luffy in one kick.
at least ussop can use his brain or his sharpshooting skills in fighting. paulie isn't that clever.

2. even oda degraded him into a supporting character in this arc. he even shares the same amount of pages with those supporting FF characters. his chance in joining is as big as chance in FF's giants joining.

3. luffy WANTS a musician, franky can play musical instrument.

4. strawhat needs a good carpenter. while tom's worker is one of the best in the island, it is IF THEY WORK AS A TEAM! paulie alone can't do a thing. In contrast, franky had always made ships alone, ever since he was young.

5. paulie doesn't looks like the picture luffy showed at all.

not gonna happen.
come to think of it, I don't think oda even able to draw robin silly face ( u know, like chopper "really???" face, etc) the only faces of her we've seen so far are smiling face, serious face, and crying face, that's all=)

oda could make luffy eat vegetables…

A few thoughts on the flashback chapter, and on this chapter.

1. It suddenly makes sense why Robin smiled when she was crying after Croc hooked her. Stupid to point out, I know, but I just realized the significance of it last night.
2. I figured Robin's past would be something like this, but I never imagined it would be this heart-wrenching to read. This is easily one of the best chapters Oda–or any mangaka, for that matter--has done.
3. I believe Aokiji intentionally mislead the Straw Hats into believing that Robin had betrayed all of her previous groups. There's no way he couldn't have known that Robin was the one betrayed. So why? At the moment, I'm thinking it's because he wanted to have the Straw Hats betray their trust in her, so it would be easier to capture her. After all, he seems to play a large part in this arc; he was the one who placed the seeds of mistrust in the Straw Hats and gave Spandam all of the information and resources he needed to formulate a plan and capture her.

I have a few questions to pose to you:
1. Why did Aokiji let Robin go? Was it out of sympathy? Or was it all a part of his "test"? If it was a part of his test, what is the "test"?
2. What is Aokiji's part in the incident at Enies Lobby? What is his motivation?

no. ao is just too naive. he really believes that robin betrayed all of her previous group just from the reports he heard. come on, if he is a little bit more clever, he won't be tricked to give spandam a buster call in the 1st place XD

the problem with skypea arc is the unloveable side characters and the long flashback.
none of the side characters have enough characteristics to draw readers' emotion. and worse, the long flashback. Now, if the flashback involves a loveable character, like nami's, chopper's etc, it is not a problem. when it involves some random characters that we don't even know like nolan, it became a problem.

Nooooo. I won't spoil the fight, but I'll say that the Itagaki/Imai match is only heating up. No matter who won it, though, they aren't close to Ippo. Even in the current raws, he's not up to Ippo's level. Hoshi is just a dud as a boxer.

itagaki started to became one worthy rival for ippo. I can see him challenging ippo for the world title in the future(if ippo ever achieve that off course =P)…. the way he fight his rival (I forget the name), and his latest fight for those who follows the raw, suggest that he may be even better than ippo

actually, I believe the changes is because the director is affected by book 5 and 6. The change with the neville/gillyweed is to show that neville isn't that useless after all (so that the change in his character in the 5th movie won't be to drastic)
and the dumbledore's scenes is to show that dumbledore isn't perfect and make mistakes too (book 6)
