It would be so funny if Medaka died.

RE: Beelzebub
I only just realized it's under 200 chapters, feels longer for some reason. I feel much better about this development now.
Because the fights are one page and the arcs are short (I'm not complaining, I'm impatient, I love it).

RE: Chapter 682 "Mastermind"
I'm guessing SAD = Rumble ball, which is why Chopper turned in to the Monster form.
Maybe Vegapunk/Caesar developed a way of creating Zoan DF's and control them, hence why the genetic mutations of Brownbeard (and going back, of some of the Sea Kings the New Fishman Pirates had).
Also Doffy nakama is definitely Sabo. No doubt, same hat, covered up because of the scars/burns?

RE: Summer 2012 Anime
So far it's not been as good as Spring. Kokoro Connect can become interesting, Tari Tari is somewhat entertaining, Natsuyuki Rendezvous is so far been disappointing. The josei anime I've watched tended to be very good (I guess because anime adaptations of josei are usually reserved for the better ones).
Really I'm more interested in Space Bros from last season, and Hyou-ka, although I'm still waiting for something interesting to actually happen in the latter (great animation/cinematography gets you so far).

RE: Bakemonogatari
I think Nise emphasizes the harem aspect of the show more than Bake. Kanbaru and Hachikuji's feelings aren't nearly as pronounced, let alone his sisters (who you will come to "enjoy" later on).
Bake sets up an interesting narrative about a boy with problems helping out girls with problems. They take the form of supernatural in the story, but are really just (pretty unsubtle) metaphors for real world problems. It does a great job of building a set of unique and interesting characters, and allowing us to see them talk to each other. There is fanservice and tropes, but it's really used to complement the story. Most people refer to its fanservice as sophisticated, I personally refer to it as relevant (the opening scene with Hanekawa, and the changing scene with Senjougahara both establish relationships quite definitively). Bake has a sort of gratifying quality in that on the face of it it is a story about a vampire boy and his harem of different tropes (tsun, loli, neko, megane) but being different from anything else in the industry.
Nise takes all of that and sort of sells out a little. It sacrifices story for entertainment, message for fanservice, and just really panders and indulges. It has some remnants of what's great about Bake, the dialogue with its metaphors, symbols, subtleties and humour, but it's only great beenfit is selling enough copies to fund the rest of the more serious (as I'm told) novels.

RE: Bakemonogatari
I mean AFTER Nisemonogatari. I've already watched the whole thing!
If you didn't know, Bake and Nise are huge hits in Japan. Pretty much all the novels have been green-lit for adaptation. The next two is a movie coming out end of this year/next year (Kizumonogatari, a prequel) and TV series, possible 26 episodes, that covers quite a few of the novels I believe.
Bakemonogatari is my personal favorite anime, although I thought Nise was average. It had some good parts, but it showed that the author was just indulging himself. It was written pre-Bake fame (the last one to be), and he never thought it would get an adaptation.
For those who don't know much about the -monogatari series, Bakemonogatari is quite popular for its SHAFT art style and it's heavy, reference-ridden, subtle, engaging and humorous dialogue, as well as a couple of dramatic set-pieces. It's not like Medaka Box at all.
Nise is Bake but with a lot more overt fan-service, both in terms of visually and story/character-wise.

RE: Fairy Tail Discussion III
I thought I was reading Beelzebub for a second. To be fair, Laxus pre-timeskip was stronger than Erza, and he actually went and did training.
-
RE: Medaka Box
I wonder why Kumagawa was left behind. Probably on orders from Medaka.
I really hate selective amnesia, but Nisio Isin is taking it to such an extreme that I'm assuming it's parody. I mean "Will you ___ me?" from a girl to a boy, how could he forgot that one word?
-
RE: Medaka Box
If I was fluent in Japanese, I would love this series even more. Even so, this style of fighting is awesome. This arc could be great yet.
-
RE: Fairy Tail Discussion III
My love of Erza continues. Great chapter. This arc is somewhat redeeming her character, after a couple of arcs where she was just fan service.
-
RE: Medaka Box
Don't take it seriously, and this series is a lot of fun. I still think it should end soon, but maybe the anime + other series ending has meant that the editors won't allow him too.
-
RE: Fairy Tail Discussion III
Natsu is going to get trashed. Or it turns out the Guild Master is crazy weak. Not even Mashima could justify Natsu beating the guild master in a fair fight.
-
RE: Beelzebub
Beelzebub's amazing because the fights are cool but they're short. I remember reading this manga for the first time a couple of months ago and I was like 'why is every fight over in one shot', but reading week to week it means it doesn't seem like it's being dragged out.
-
RE: Medaka Box
So two chapters ago was making fun of naming attacks [sort of, at least trolling somebody] and this chapter feels making fun of Zoro-like characters who use multiple swords. I thought it was quite funny.
-
RE: The "Shueisha" Thread
I'm happy Nisekoi is doing well, might become the spiritual successor to To-Love-Ru. Medaka Box needs to end soon, so maybe the rankings pushing it down will help the case for it to stop running [as much as I enjoy Medaka Box, it's unlikely it's going to get much better in the next year].
-
RE: Sakamichi no Apollon (Kids on the Slope)
The series has been fantastic so far, concerning both the music and the characters. They need to add a girl who likes Kaoru, though, to make things a nice, even hexagon…
We all know Jun-nii is gay for Kaoru.
-
RE: Medaka Box
I just read this series. I'm glad I did too, although it's kind of all over the place. What I really enjoy about it is that it's obvious that both the artist and the author [well at least Nisio] are having fun with the series. It's all over the place, it makes very little sense but it's very entertaining, quite funny and vividly captivating.
In terms of arcs or sagas, I do think the Zenkichi vs Medaka one [ie the most recent one] was my favorite, not just for the fourth wall being obliterated or the meta-ness, but in terms of an actual story or character development it was a great final arc. The SoL arc was quite timid, the shonen battle saga, ie the enforcer arc and the class 13 tower arc, was alright, not really my thing, the Psychological battle Saga, aka the Minus arc, was excellent and the fake Trick Tower arc was pretty good. All in all, a pretty good series, and I hope this new arc will be just as good. I would say Zenkichi is going to go and become Medaka's suitor, but that's a bit too lame for this series I think. Either way, I really do hope this series ends soon, it doesn't really have that much else to go on.
Now my only assumption as to why it didn't finish was that the editors wouldn't allow him to, or he just wanted to troll everyone. Both very likely.

RE: Bakuman
Just re-reading the chapter, I think the worst thing about Bakuman is that Azuki's mother is the one Mashiro's uncle loved.
-
RE: Bakuman
I would have liked to see the wedding just to hear what each of the mangaka had to say. I thought it would be hilarious, however this ending is cute and nice in its own way, and feels quite complete on its own.
-
RE: Bakuman
7 more chapters left I think. The 8 chapters thing was probably a message to the readers.
-
RE: Fairy Tail Discussion III
I know you guys hate him, and he gets a little bit too much screen time and ass pulls, but I'm a big Jellal/Mystogan fan, and I'm looking forward to him decimating Jura (after the initial struggle of 'he's not a wizard saint for nothing' that is inevitably going to happen).
I hope he doesn't lose his mask or something, although Jura should recognize him.
Why is Fairy Tail B so much more awesome than A? C'mon Erza, switch allegiance.
-
RE: Bakuman
I'm a big fan of Bakuman's dramatic scenes, especially because they are ott. The whole 'no talking' thing seemed sweet and romantic for once… kyaa~ MihoxMashiro
-
RE: Bakuman
Yes Azuki!
Miho has generally been the stronger one in their relationship. Shame about the whole 'no talking' thing which meant she got little to no screen-time. But this type of arc, focusing on the problems of anime/manga culture, is what's best about Bakuman.
-
RE: Bakuman
Took me forever to remember who Ishizawa is…
Great chapter though.
-
RE: Fairy Tail Discussion III
Admittedly, it's a very cool concept and if it's the type of thing we're going to be seeing in this tournament, I'm all for it. And it would probably play better in a manga as a psychological battle than it does in real life (unless it's lan vs your friends).
-
RE: Fairy Tail Discussion III
It's Assassin Creed's multiplayer.
Next chapter Gray will realize that by running/looking around, he stands out from his clones.
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
Pariston will win, but I bet Ging was lying/exaggerating when he talked about what Pariston is up to. He just probably wanted Cheadle to act on her own and not consult him so he could slink away before facing Gon.
-
RE: Fairy Tail Discussion III
I don't mind the retcon, at least we get to see a cool team. Swap Erza and Juvia, and that would be the dream team.
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
Pariston is clearly stalling. Maybe his plan is to release the ants and then lose the election so he doesn't have to bother cleaning it up himself, and just go play with the ants (ie try and manipulate them in to following him).
-
RE: Bakuman
I don't we really know what Reversi is about. As far as we know, there isn't a female character, I'm sure there's supposed to be more to the story that we don't know about.
I think you have to accept the love thing about Bakuman. It's been like that for a while.
-
RE: The "Shueisha" Thread
The MC and the childhood friend will eventually stop lying to eachother like douchebags, and realize their keys (and hearts) are meant for eachother. Meanwhile, the gang families will have to deal with their young heirs just being friends, and will have to stop being unreasonable. The tsundere and the MC will be "in love" at one point, but will end up just great friends.
If it ends any other way it would be stupid and asinine. Either way, I'm done reading it.
Since when did anyone read romcom's for the plot? The ending is obvious, but so it is for a lot of series. I hope for the sake of both series it ends quickly, because nothing's worse than a romcom that drags on.
-
RE: Bakuman
The chapter's properly out, Eiji, what a dick. Probably just trying to keep his rivals continuing to make quality manga…
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
I don't think it would be very probable for Chrollo to take Alluka's powers. The conditions for his ability to work is as follows:
1) View the technique with your own eyes
In this case, see Alluka grant a wish
2) Inquire about the victim's nen and obtain responses
In other words, asking about the nature of Alluka's wish granting ability and ALL of the conditions to it
3) Put the cover of the book in contact with the victim's palm
4) Fulfill the first 3 conditions within one hourI just don't see it happening unless the absolute perfect conditions occur for Chrollo. And even then he'll lose the ability if Alluka is killed, which despite being a Zoldyck Killua has said she's basically no better than a normal child her age.
The speculation implies that Killua would help Chrollo get her powers in order to rid Alluka of them, which would make all the conditions possible.
Whether you believe Killua would side with Chrollo is up to you, but I think if it keeps her safe he would do it. Even if it hurts Kurapika (although the power itself wouldn't be useful to Chrollo, or in a fight, as he can't use it himself).
-
RE: Fairy Tail Discussion III
Gajeel under the mask, goes back after three months and tells them what happened on Tenrou island. I think he's still a double agent (as in his allegiance is with FT) but it doesn't mean he's constantly reporting to Makarov all the time.
-
RE: Chapter 653: The hero's hat
My dream of a bronze statue of Luffy seems to be dying…
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
Last we saw Abengane he said something along the lines of noticing how powerful Chrollo's nen was, which implies that he managed to cleanse Chrollo and be able to sense his nen considering Kurapika's ability left him in a Zetsu state. Though we don't know why Hisoka didn't have his death match with Chrollo, so there may be conditions that needed to be fulfilled.
The spiders probably don't know about Alluka's powers unless maybe Kalluto told them (which given the Zoldyck familmy politics I doubt he would do). Even if that's the case, that doesn't necessarily mean they'd go after her immediately.
This is all just speculation, but Abengane could be commenting on how strong the Nen restricting Chrollo was.
But actually, thinking about it, wouldn't it be useful for Killua if Chrollo stole Alluka's powers? Then she would not be trapped by Silva and co. Then they would have to do something about Chrollo, but Hisoka can go kill him or something.
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
Why would they be there? They already found a nen eraser for Chrollo at Greed Island.
Has it been confirmed that it worked?
We've seen with Gon Nen-Eraser =/= Nen-erasing. They might still need Alluka's powers. They'd probably want it nevertheless.

RE: The "Shueisha" Thread
I might be wrong, but I believe that Lazy Justice is implements slightly ironic undertones with the ellipsis at the end of his sentence.
Bingo.
Kagami - I agree that the premise for Harisugawa is actually somewhat interesting, but the execution from chapter to chapter has been poor that's it's made me critical of the series. I think the relationship between Saki and main is actually somewhat realistic, she starts liking him because he helps/saves her, and he starts liking her because she confessed. Knowing someone likes you usually increases your feelings for that person.
However it's not going to last and we know who's going to win (unless we get a Tenchi solution).
Nisekoi - I actually prefer this one. The premise is a reverse Romeo & Juliet, and it's about two people who have had a bad first impression of each other having to spend time together, and realizing that they do have good points to each other. I think at this point a friend solution between the two mains is the route I'm shipping for.
I originally thought the whole Onodera/key thing was stupid, but I like the way it's playing out. Actually figuring it out and lying is slightly different to how rom-coms play out, and therefore you don't have the stupid games you see in every other harem/rom-com like manga. The characters aren't 100% oblivious or innocent (obviously still like 90%), so they're a little more interesting.

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
Again, I still don't see why people are thinking HxH's ending soon. There's still plenty of plot threads to resolve and develop on before it ends.
Because everyone will soon be gathered in one place. The Spiders will be in this arc very soon, as Alluka's power is exactly what they are looking for. We have Ging trapped, Hisoka on the prowl, Gon almost recovered, the Zoldycks family tree exposed, if the Troupe are coming then so will Kurapika.
I don't see HxH ending in a way that makes their story 100% complete - it will end with Killua, Leorio, Kurapika and Gon setting off on a proper Hunter adventure, maybe in search of Kurapika's clan's eyes (with all their major plot points basically resolved).
-
RE: Chapter 653: The hero's hat
Smoker and Luffy's fight will be inconclusive, as it will inevitably be interrupted by something else - like Big Mam, and the Strawhats will get away.
-
RE: Beelzebub
Furuichi stole this chapter. Always funny.
Lol, and I just laughed at the charcaters commenting on how everyone's pissed off at the arc ending without the arriving characters doing anything in the end. Well, what's done is done. At least the author recognizes just how anti-climatic it was and looks like he'll be working on making the left out characters do a big shwoing in the next arc.
That's always been the point of Beelzebub. Almost every fight is anti-climactic, it's what makes it such a great manga. It's hilarious.

RE: Hunter x Hunter II
@RobbyBevard:
I hate to bandwagon. But man. Togashi's story is so much more interesting that Oda's right now. Just proves what I've long said I suppose. That if he didn't take all the breaks, his story would easily be competing with OP.
Among the older crowd anyway. Its not universal enough to ever reach OP's levels of popularity. But storywise its the one title that can go toe to toe. He's built some crazy suspense on multiple fronts.
I agree, but I also think it's important that:
a) Togashi probably has taken more time to develop his story
b) Hunter x Hunter doesn't have the same amount of chapters, therefore has more to work with (without it seeming repetitive)
c) Demographic for OP is probably slightly younger, more gender-balanced. A bigger fan base means more restrictions and more people to please
d) Oda clearly has to write 500+ more chapters to finish his story, I doubt Togashi has more than 150. Therefore he has to save stuff for later. But I've always said I think story to story, development to development, HxH is better than OP. OP will always be more popular than HxH because of its continuity and its balance between light-hearted comedy and dramatic action. HxH is better because it can explore the depths of the characters, and the darkness of the world, whereas OP can't go as deep (at least as quickly and freely).

RE: The "Shueisha" Thread
Kochikame in the bottom 5? Oh my, looks like it's going to be cancelled soon…
-
RE: The "Shueisha" Thread
I'm really enjoying Nisekoi, although I still don't believe it has staying power.
Any news on cancellations or did I miss that?
-
RE: Beelzebub
Amazing chapter. Actually, more like good chapter with perfect housewife Hilda.
-
RE: Bakuman
Zombie Gun will get it. Or Azuki will die [jokes]/not be casted. They're not going to rush an ending now are they?
-
RE: Fairy Tail Discussion III
This is why you read Fairy Tail. For the rushed developments, and hope you get that this will be a good arc after two good chapters. This is how every other arc started so…
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
I thought it was implied that Gon's mother was dead. That's why the tape was the only remaining bit of her, and why Mito doesn't bad-mouth her, talk about her, or why Ging never seems to yearn to see her.
My guess is that she died while giving birth or died and Ging blames himself.
For the longest time I thought Mito was actually his mother, then I realized how awful a twist that would be, and how it makes no sense.
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter II
Everyone knows who the best chairman would be: Kurapika. Therefore, Leorio has to win, elect Kurapika as his vice, and then either resign or just do nothing.
