Hell when you think of it the current arc hasn't had any straw hat in the spot light. Sanji got some spot light at the start but no real development, after that its really just been a equilibrium of the straw hats messing around. The real topic has been on the demoralized life style on the archipelago, with Hatchan and Camie in the center.

You must be a pretty keen reader to notice minor foot differences. Nice find, but not nearly as bad of a flub as the crocodile Hook fiasco.

RE: Do you believe Brook's gonna join SHs? State your opinion
People still think brook is not going to join? Wow at this point is about as obvious as it gets…
I mean just think about it Luffy has been wanting a musician since before he even though of a doctor or a cook, He's been apart of two SH Combo attacks, he agreed to join on his ship, he has won the hearts of all the straw hats when they found out his past, He's in debt to Zoro for his shadow, And He's the super secret character in the DS game for gods sake.
And what do you think is going to happen when the crew tells them that they know laboon and they saved his life not once but twice? (once for Vivi and prince attacking him and the other for stopping him from bashing his brains out on reverse side mountain.)
Do people honestly think he's he's just going to abandon them after all this? Or magically run backwards to see laboon? Not only does he owe them his ability to go see laboon by getting his shadow back and saving his life/hair from Ryuma , but saving laboon twice?
He's not going anywhere.
He's joining, thats it. If he doesn't it will probably be the biggest dues ex machina in the history of one piece.

RE: Chapter 478 "Luffy vs. Luffy" Discussion
The way I see it his power means quat for getting the shadows back despite it being super cool / powerful. Even if he cripples Odz to the point he can't move I still dont think he could take on Moria and defeat moria in the time span. Moria is just such a good trickster that 10 minutes is plenty of time to stay away from him. After that Luffy might feint That on top of the fact that its hinted he might know, and if he does he's already planning some thing to safe his butt.

RE: What's Blackbeard doing now?
Because if any or all of the Shichibukai get out of line, then Marine HQ and the Yonkou will beat the shit out of them. The balance of three powers, remember?
I'm almost certain that if BB tries something funny, there'll be other Schichibukai that will oppose his ideas.
Sure they would beat down any other Shichibukai. But honestly I don't think they will be the one giving a beat down if he strikes at the right moment. If the Shichibukai we've seen so far can go as far as they've gone without government finding out I'm afraid it might be to late when he strikes. His DF is just so powerful, and he hasn't even fully mastered it yet.

RE: Chapter 475 "The Pirates in the Forest" Discussion
The secret is obviously pissing on Moria, since we didn't get to see it during the Crocodile fights…
I mean, isn't pee salty?
I can't imagine a more horrid event where the rolling pirates would find out that moria was weak to pee. I mean seriously, that would be messed up.

RE: Chapter 475 "The Pirates in the Forest" Discussion
The reason why I don't call this a DEM is because the DIDN'T come out of nowhere. It wasn't just on old man that they met in the forest, there where many others cheering him on in hiding. They may have finally decided to tell him because they are getting hope now.
The Fact that they knew before the fight doesnt change the fact that its DEM. All Deffiniton of DEM states is that it is "a person or thing (as in fiction or drama) that appears or is introduced suddenly and unexpectedly and provides a contrived solution to an apparently insoluble difficulty".
No one could of reasonably guessed that their where shadowless dudes in the forest who had the answer all this time. So no matter how you look at it was sudden and it probably resolve the main problem (which makes the the core of DEM).
Don't jump to conclusions until we learn what his great weakness is. If it is something that was hinted at eariler, then it technically isn't DEM because it was foreshadowed.
Just because it was forshadowed doesnt change the sudden introduction of the said solution. (whihc again is what DEM is)
I know DEM seems to show a lack of writing skill in the eyes of most readers. But really I think oda just wanted to tie in the plot of next chapter before the end of this one. Im sure he'll make it work anyhow.
-
RE: Chapter 475 "The Pirates in the Forest" Discussion
@Fire Fist:
It's still DEM, like it or not. Oz becomes rubber suddenly, and seems unbeatable, and then all of a sudden we meet pirates under the "Real Lola" who have the secret of beating him? The fact that they have the secret may not be a DEM, but the fact that they appear just when needed is.
As much as I'd hate to just lable any plot Deus Ex Machina and say Oda is too good of a writer for that I'd have to agree. Luffy bumping in to the Real Risky Bro's and them just happening to have the secret to winning seems a little out of place let alone that Oda did it in a single page.

RE: Post All-Inclusive Things About Brooke In Here
@Pass:
Brook's animation debut!
His cloth's look a lot looser and scuffed up then they look like in the manga. In that segment it kinda looks like Hobo Dress suit and in this arc it has a more Jack skellington fit.

RE: Chapter 474 "Gotta Do It" Discussion
teleports them all around and they gotta meet up somewhere
could be fun
good in theroy , we are all in for some thing new.
But given they all go to some were different how would they know where to meet?
–---------------------------------------------------------Anyways, with kuma there I doubt they will allow to take out Moria if moria likes it or not (if the intent of the WG is not to get another one destroyed).
Even IF Kuma left moria I don't know if the SH's (or oda) are willing to kill some one (or have thre SH's kill soem one). I doubt this is the last we will see of Moria after this arc.

RE: Chapter 473 "The Shichibukai Bartholomew Bear" Discussion
@Taz:
He'd still have to work in secrecy though. In fact, taking the spotlight as a shichibukai would probably make that harder for him than through obscurity. Though I guess it depends on just what he's planning to do from that point to reach his goal.
Well being watched on by the government sure didn't stop Crocodile from trying to take over a country and then the world, or Moria to try and make the ultimate undead army and become pirate king , or Flamingo to try and make a new world order all together.
I think it can be assumed that the government isn't breathing down their neck. If BB plays it safe he'll do a ton of damage.

RE: Chapter 473 "The Shichibukai Bartholomew Bear" Discussion
Everyone is asking "What happened to Brook?" I have a thought, what if Brook is tracking the REAL Gekko Moria, and manages to hold him until Luffy reaches him?
I was thinking more along the lines of him getting salt big enough/ a possible source of a fire to kill of odz. Since the SH's can't really kill ods unless its with salt/burning they are really just making him angry. I think brook knows how to stop him.
As for Kuma and the so called band wagon, its clear to see why he's so popular. So far most of the Shichibuka are crazy power hungry fools (moria, crocodile, flamingo, and maybe now black beard) its a nice change of pace to see a calm Shichibuka, maybe even likable in some aspects last seen a hell of a long time ago with Hawk Eye's.
In stories now a days you find these groups of villians and all they serve to do is have a Tournament one tougher then the other fight with one evil doer to the next without having the actual tournament. But when you have a group like this and some think outside the box, people are bound to pay more attention.

RE: Post All-Inclusive Things About Brooke In Here
I know all the evidence is there, and that it's the most likely scenario, but something about him joining just doesn't sit right me with me. I think it's the fact that he's a bit too over the top as far as what he is. If the crew is wandering through some town, Brook is just too unbelievable to a normal person to just be accepted. Chopper is understandable, because he comes off as just some pet, reindeer, or hairy guy. But a talking skeleton is not some everyday stuff, and I just don't think he'll be a crewmember.
Like Million dollar bounty criminals can walk through town anyhow…
Besides the best stuff happens when their doing the fighting or in a dire situation. Did anyone get much out of Sanji buying a big fish or when Nami was dress shopping? No, it was just stall time till luffy almost got his head cut off.
On top of that how many times have the SH's just walked through town? Three times. (Loguetown, landing on arabasta, and skypedia.) Two of the times were hardly natural town crawling.
So not only does it not matter now because they are highly wanted, but it never really happened much in the past.

RE: Chapter 467 "Pirate Zoro vs Samurai Ryuma" Discussion
It is being rushed because this is a mini arc, and Oda obviously doesn't want it to run too long. It's as if Oda feels he needs to create mini arcs all the time at a certain length. Dunno about Thriller Park, I would have extended it quite a bit longer than the usual mini arc.
I seriously doubt its a mini arc with so many important things happening. I just think oda doesnt want things to drag on like Water 7 and the Lobby. Even Oda himself said that the last arc dragged on more then he like. Maybe he is just want a good flow of action, which is no problem with me.

RE: Chapter 465 "Pirate Usopp vs Mysterious Perona" Discussion
OIC
Victiorian style goth. Pretty big difference. Thx
–----------------------------------------As for Perona as a villain, she is easily the most powerful to date.
Double finder got pwned by a party favor that was used for the first time by a girl that was in her first fight. Seriously , thats about as low as it gets.
Alvida got lucky and stumbled on to a useful DF. So far all we know is that she is slippery and its hard to hit her. I doubt she could seriously take out any of the SH's.
Kalifa was coverd by deicide.
But here comes Perona who can nutralise just about all the SH's without breaking a sweat. So usopp can stand up aginst her, big deal. Its not like he's laying down a beating, infact all he's done this chapter is to put salt in a bear's mount and get blown up. He may if found perona's body it's not like its game over, just means the battle got more interesting.

RE: The next new Nakama?
After Brook joins, the next new nakama I think would join would be a character that mops/sweeps the Thousand Sunny. Also, he/she could use brooms, mops, and other stuff for weapons. Also, he/she will not have a devil fruit and he/she would have some type of psychic power to use in fights
A) Why would he/she use weapons like a mop if they have psychic powers?
B) Why would anyone have a job and/or fetish for swabbing the deck if they were psychic?:wassat:
C) If it was a female wouldnt that be sucky to pin the girl with cleaning job?
I dunno, just seems kinda out there.

@Rai:
Isn't Brooke named after some singer? I remember something like this.. details went past me however.
I hear that too. Its not unlike Oda to do any of these things.
You're on the money, because Brook's name is derived from the name Brook Benton, who is Oda's favorite Musician.

I belive it was stated very early in this thread.

RE: Post All-Inclusive Things About Brooke In Here
@Ao:
Wasn't the Sanji v. Gin thing a draw?
Well His fight with Paldo (Technically his first fight) He got his butt handed to him. Then Gin ended Paldo. When the two were fighting, Gin served him hard at the end of chap 60. But 61 had sanji fighting back yet Gin got sanji into a hold and was about to kill him but let him live.
So no , he lost two fights in a row.

Probably not, given that he can kill off anybody good or bad. They might be different people inside (crushing dream's stuff blah blah) but they'll either come back or we'll never hear from them again.

RE: Chapter 461 "Ghost Buster" Discussion
Im baffled by the explanation on why perona's ghost's don't affect him. It the spoilers he say's that he is negative and that make him positive, yet I never thought of him as a negative guy. Does this also mean that robin is positive? Then how positive does she do?

@Fire Fist:
If Brooke joins, anyone think he'll fight Lafitte?
Just think about that for a second and you'll understand why.
Actually I think it would be more fitting if He were to fight Doc Q.
To Have a skeleton fight a man called "death" and "The Grim Reaper" I think would be more symbolic then having chopper go at him and calling it a "lol doctor fight" with little actual meaning.

RE: Chapter 459 "Cannot Call, So Sorry for Dying" Discussion
@bunshindattebayo:
Jigoro is definitely stronger than ryuuma, because jigoro has zoro's shadow.Zoro is more experienced in sword fighting because he's always train himself while brook spend his time playing violin than practicing his sword skill
The equation that brook gave us for zombie power is the Shadow of the person and the Body of the Zombie itself.
Brook is a Skilled swords man , his shadow is then combined with a legendary swords man, so the result is a very strong zombie.
Zoro is a great swords man, his shadow was put in a 59 year old man who killed a good deal of pirates. Its hard to say what the power is.
Alot of Zoro's skill comes from the body training that he does. We don't know if the effects of his training will actually go to Jigoro. So I'd say its too soon to call.
-
RE: Chapter 459 "Cannot Call, So Sorry for Dying" Discussion
Cons
no flashback as of yet and i can't see how he would get one seeing as how we already know his past alreadyWell it depends what you count as a flash back or not. There has been a pretty good amount of flash back segments (as shown in the shaded border) but nothing full blow like the other memebers.

RE: Chapter 459 "Cannot Call, So Sorry for Dying" Discussion
Without Skypiea, Usopp wouldn't have any Dials.
Without Skypiea, Robin wouldn't have discovered that Gol D. Roger can read and write the language of the Poneglyphs.
Without Skypiea, we never would have met Montblanc Cricket. That right there overrides everything.
Also Marry probably wouldnt of gotten damaged and the need of ship repair in W7. If BB didn't end the SH's after jaya.
-
RE: Chapter 459 "Cannot Call, So Sorry for Dying" Discussion
@_Meh_:
As Cryogen476 noted, Ryuuma currently has his sword stuck in Brook's body. Unless Brook can be killed by multiple strikes to his Devil Fruit "organs", he could still grab hold of Ryuuma's katana and throw salt in his mouth. After all, this isn't about who is the superior swordsman–this fight is determined by who has Brook's shadow at the end.
That plus you have to realise that if Brook dies then Ryuuma dies too. So its really a fight Ryuuma can't win. Brook can't die if Ryuuma want's to live and all he needs is to get some salt in Ryuuma's mouth.
-
RE: Chapter 459 "Cannot Call, So Sorry for Dying" Discussion
However, I'm really concerned about Brooke now. While his character is interesting, fighting wise he seems weak. That is, his swordsmanship is hardly different from Zoro–there's nothing that really defines Brooke like all the melee fighters in the Strawhat crew except for his ability to take damage like a skeleton.
I don't think we've truely seen what Brook can do. So far his fight has been protecting his fro, not really fighting. Im sure his true skills will be proven in due time.

RE: Post All-Inclusive Things About Brooke In Here
When I hold my breath and lean on my back… I sink. I know from nearly drowning once. Luckily, someone grabbed me. So is the body able to float; it all depends on the conditions, but NORMALLY it doesn't, otherwise people would never drown. -_-'
Im not sure why that happened to you but the human body does float for various reason such as
A) Lung Air cavity creating flotation
B) Materials that make up the body such as fat (remember oil goes up water goes down? Same ide)
C) Water buoyancy, saltier water even more so.
Plus on top of that a lot of drown victims are found life less floating on the top of the water. So I'd say your try with the back floating was due to poor balance.
-
RE: Post All-Inclusive Things About Brooke In Here
If he goes under water he'll drown like all the other DF users… What good is that? -_-'
Suba suit like in Jaya arc, not bare body. I'd assume.
-
RE: Post All-Inclusive Things About Brooke In Here
if he doesn't need to breath couldn't hedo underwater missions in some sort of cabled wet suit
Well could he really sink or operate under water while being so light? Thats a big question right there before we even get to what he can and can no do in water.
-
RE: The Chains That Hold Them Back
As it would seem, the top of the food chain is WB. But what holds WB back? Navy, other Pirates, some physical barrier? All good ideas , but it maybe be its more down to earth.
WB is a ailing man, strong or not he is sick. The problem could be getting WB to the required destination alive (not necessarily One Piece but another obstacle). You cannot have a dead Pirate King; and in tell the crew finds a way they have a stalemate between the other top pirates. Ofcourse who knows how long this chain will last.

RE: Chapter 455 "King of the Depths: The Shichibukai - Gekko Moria" Discussion
I was thinking, where do they keep the bodies of the living? Then I rememberd how the old man in the grave yard who told Yuffy about gecko. He didnt have a shadow, this means he couldnt be a zombie. I belive he's Brooks friend who he saw get his shadow captured from Moria. I think its quite plausable, and the way Oda works with connecting characters would fit this quite well.
-
RE: If the Shichibukai are so strong, then why havent they found One Piece?
Because
A) Its hard as Heck to get there. Only one crew has made it and back, which is Gold rogers. I doubt you just need man power and some boat to make it, or else it wouldnt be such a hard task to do.
B) Im assuming that since they are already powerful pirates that most are rich enough already to even need what they think One Peice is. (tons of gold)
C) The WG probably won't let them go, most likely because it could have some thing to do with the 100 lost years.
D) Its way too soon to even think about the final goal of one peice in the picture.

RE: Chapter 454 "Humming" Discussion
Ah so it's sheer unadulterated hope that has this conversation spanning so many pages as opposed to any sort of fact. thanks for clearing that up, i almost though i missed something there.
But its not really blind hope, just read FFA's post on how everything fits togeather with music and song. That on top of the fact that the attack lands when he puts his sword back in his cane.
But all just threory right now (yet a very good one that fits)
-
RE: Chapter 454 "Humming" Discussion
I hate to break it to ya, but there are some reasons. One, there seems to be humans in Thriller Bark, so Brooke wouldn't be alone. Maybe these guys will make Thiller Bark into their city when Luffy's done with Moria.
Possibily, but its a stretch. Considering the only a few bodies on the Island were in support of the SH's anyways starting a town would be hard.
Two, there's Cindry. I think she has more of a part in the story coming. While we can draw conclusions, a room filled with pictures needs some explaining. Even if we say "Hogback's obsessed," then that raises questions of it's own!
The Sad part about this is that Cindry IS a Zombie. This means that if Moria is defeated (which is very certain after Zoro and Sanji) Cindry could just up and die (re-die).
If anything if their is a thing between the two I could see Brook joining the SH for a dream of getting her back to life.
-
RE: Chapter 454 "Humming" Discussion
but it seems suspicious that a potential crewmember fights in a similar manner to an "older" Straw Hat.
Similar manner as in he uses a sword, I presume? Considering the fact that they're two swords appart pretty much garentee's that they will have different styles. That on top of the fact we've only seen one of his moves and have we even seen his sword in action.
At this point its like saying Franky's Exstended arm punches are too much like luffy's rubber's arms, so he can't be on the crew.
