Huhuva Spot Hunt… did Zoro just use a freezing attack? Look at the cold mist in front of him — it reminds me of Brook’s attacks. I wonder what happened with the reaper in Wano…

@Kaiolino I recommend this order:
- Lupin III: A Woman Called Fujiko Mine
No no no no noooooooooo.
If you like the Fujiko series thats great, it can be at the top of your list, but its an AWFUL suggestion for a starting sampler. It's stylistically and tonally radically different from anything else in the franchise and completely alters how some of the characters act.
That should not be someone's first outing, for the same reason Cagliostro shouldn't. No matter what you're personal preference or how much you like it, its SO different from everything else its a real false impression.
Hmm… tonally, it’s the series most similar to Monkey Punch’s original Lupin III manga — hence why I chose it first. It’s a great introduction to all of the characters and a total period piece with the flair of the late 60s. I think it’s a great intro for adults attempting to get into Lupin.

RE: Lupin the 3rd
@Kaiolino I recommend this order:
- Lupin III: A Woman Called Fujiko Mine
- Lupin III Part I (first half)
- Lupin III: Jigen’s Gravestone
- Lupin III: Goemon’s Bloodspray
- Lupin III: Fujiko Mine’s Lie
- Lupin III Part I (second half)
- The Castle of Cagliostro
- Lupin III Part II
- Lupin the First
- Lupin Zero
- Lupin III Part IV
- Lupin III Part V
- Lupin III Part VI
The highly rated movies and specials can be peppered in there. Just pay attention to Lupin’s coat color.
This is mostly chronological order, but I actually focused mostly on tone. The ones I listed first are all darker in tone until you get to the Miyazaki stuff (Part 1’s second half).
You COULD also start with Lupin Zero, which is tonally
more similar to the rest of the series. Skip part III. -
RE: Spy X Family
I don’t think that Ania is dumb… maybe this is speculation (and I’m anime-only) but haven’t we gotten a lot of hints around her character that kind of explain why she struggles?
It sounds like:
- Ania is actually 4 years old instead of 6, meaning she’s actually advanced for her age.
- Ania’s good at “ancient language” because it’s her first language. The Ostanian language might be a second language for her.
- ANIA isn’t a name; it’s an acronym for the project that created her.
I think the series is really good at dropping big hints in slice-of-life moments and there’s always this looming sense of dread lurking even in some of the brightest moments. At the end of the day, this is a fake family created for a murder mission / imperial interests. The fuse on the powder keg was lit from the beginning… the wick is just REALLY long.

Performers are already old. I believe most are over 25 and Nami's performer is 29/30 ish. Just read a speculation that it would take 20 seasons - "160 episodes" to catch up to where Wano is and I disagree.
If they stick to 8 episodes and continue to skip smaller elements or mix certain things
S2: Loguetown - Drum
S3: Alabasta/Skypiea
S4: W7/EL
S5: TB - Seperation
S6: Amazon Lily/Impel Down
S7: MF War
S8: Return/FI/PH
S9: Dressrosa/Zou
S10: WCI/Reverie
S11: Wano
S12: Wano 2 - Oden's Journey lol
S13: Wano 3 - Onigashima WarI think they could streamline even further. For example:
S2: Loguetown - Whiskey Peak - Little Garden - Drum - Alabasta
S3: Jaya - Skypiea - Long Ring Long Land
S4: W7 - Enies Lobby - Thriller Bark
S5: Sabaody - Amazon Lily - Impel Down - Marineford - Post-War
S6: The Return / Fishman Island / Punk Hazard
S7: Dressrosa / Zou / WCI / Levely
S8: Wano / Post-Wano -
RE: Season 1 General Discussion
Man, this thread is depressing. It’s filled with inconsistent criticism of an amazing adaptation for the fans. There’s more nitpicking here than posters pointing out easter eggs and details for the fans. Honestly, it might be the most negative place I’ve seen the series discussed over the past few days — and I haven’t seen the Oykot Kingdom map mentioned ONCE in this thread.
Sure, have your gripes — but seeing some of you to dismiss the entire production and wishing they’d “pull the plug” is ridiculous. The comments about disliking Luffy and Nojiko’s casting comes across as really sus. If anything, I feel less inclined to return to AP because of the consistent negativity here across most threads…

@karubiDON she pretty much when into his room and confessed to him but it doesn't change my opinion of who I think is the better pairing.
I’m actually referring to scenes way before that. It’s clear that Orihime likes Ichigo in chapter 2 — and Ichigo is a bit nervous around her as well.
I remember watching a DBZImran video that went into a bit more detail on this, but I’m fairly sure that a lot of the canon moments between Ichigo and Orihime might’ve been changed — and the same is true for canon moments between Ichigo and Rukia.
-
RE: Season 1 General Discussion
I really appreciated a LOT of the changes and foreshadowing across the season. Think about it — we have:
- Zeff mentioning Jaya
- Liar Noland
- Haoushoku no Haki
- Arlong Park looks like Sabaody Park
- Fishmen being discriminated against
- Jimbei being mentioned by Arlong
- Garp mentioning that Marines have their personal brand of Justice
- Baroque Works
Let’s also mention the beautiful cinematography, bounty reveals, soundtrack, and fantastic acting. The fact that they correctly adapted things in the manga that weren’t in the anime (e.g. Zeff’s leg, Luffy’s scar, etc). The action sequences… chef’s kiss.
And most importantly… it has succeeded in introducing non-fans and casuals to the world of One Piece. I get the sense that many of the complaints are coming from younger fans newer to One Piece, ironically enough… but I’m so thoroughly impressed and will continue to support the series as a long-time fan. I’ve already started my rewatch.

renji not being in rukia's mind when she took the fear attack was really funny to me considering who she ended up with in the end.
I know its been a decade or so but I will never not be salty about my Ichiruki not happening.Wasn’t the Ichigo x Rukia shipping an anime-only thing? Kubo made it clear from the beginning of the series that Ichigo and Orihime had a thing for each other.

RE: Season 1 General Discussion
I finished it. It was amazing and genuinely fun. My girlfriend loved it and was disappointed to learn that there weren’t anymore episodes. I definitely will be watching this again and sincerely hope for a sequel — that was SUCH an incredible adaptation!!
I hear all of the nitpicky complaints, but as a fan for over 20 years — this was damn near perfection. 10/10. A+. More, please.

RE: Episode 2 (The Man in the Straw Hat) - Discussion
Another great episode. Interesting that “Mother Ocean” was mentioned. We also had Buggy establishing the notion of Shanks being a “false idol” — as well as the question of “what does it mean to be a pirate” being thoroughly explored.
The acting remains fantastic. Buggy was a delight, the principal cast continues to kill it, and I loved the flashback.
-
RE: Episode 1 (Romance Dawn) - Discussion
I wonder if there are any hints about the endgame in the manga in this series — just like how we received hints in all the films since Strong World.
This first episode has me convinced that Shanks will be the one to take out Luffy’s eye.

RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
Well done, Greg — the live action production was so lucky to have you! The first episode was amazing and I’m excited to see the reception over the next few weeks. My girlfriend, not at all a fan of OP/anime/manga, really enjoyed it too — and I consider that a win.
-
RE: Episode 1 (Romance Dawn) - Discussion
I loved the first episode so much — kudos to Greg and the entire cast/crew for making such a delightful production.
My girlfriend, who rarely shows any interest in anime/manga, really enjoyed it — and really picked up on some character nuances that proved just how much love was put into the story. The casting was perfect; I can’t wait to watch the rest!!

RE: 1071: ''Luffy's Peak - Obtained! 'Gear Fifth'''
The contrarian AP opinion strikes again. As a long time fan, I can’t imagine a more perfect adaptation than this. The episode had me smiling and laughing out loud throughout! Looking at the replies here, I’m honestly shocked to see the tepid praise and palpable disappointment mixed with a twinge of condescending criticism.
Really — what would y’all have done better? The sound effects were so fun… and Weilin Zhang’s cut was beautiful. It feels like we all watched something different!

Pacing was amazing this episode; I was entertained throughout. Maybe this is my favorite episode of One Piece? Tu Yong-Ce says we have WEEKS of peak left and the preview looks just as great. I’m pumped!!
Do any of you still doubt that Wano is the best arc of the series?

RE: Bleach Discussion █: Soul Society, but not!
@access-timeco This is exactly it. Jinka no Jutsu (Humanification) is another method of transcendence.
As a reminder, Aizen became a "Transcendent God" after fusing with the Hōgyoku and breaking down the boundary between Soul Reaper (Asura) and Hollow (Preta).
Ichigo is naturally a Transcendent God, being the human progeny of a Quincy (Deva) infused with Hollow and Soul Reaper. That's four of the realms in one being.
Komamura somehow already broke down the boundary between Soul Reaper and Animal in the past — and Jinka no Jutsu did so further through humanification that eventually reverted him to his original state.
The ominous trickery of the elder is always fascinating to me. What benefit does he receive from consuming Komamura's heart? Further survival?

Hirako’s bankai made an appearance in the anime — as well as a brief view of Soul Society’s Original Sin. Amazing anime, as always!

RE: Welcome Back! (2022 Edition)
Hey — a few things. So I have an account here that I created in 2006, but it ended up getting banned in 2016 for a difference in opinion with another person here. It seems that the issue was something widespread and was actually addressed in this thread, so I’d imagine that account is actually unbanned by now.
I created an interim account prior to this, but is it possible for me to either merge the accounts OR get my original one back?

RE: One Piece Live-Adaptation Drama Announced
I am SO hyped. I really can’t wait for August 31st — so much love was clearly put into the series.
I’m a long time fan. I started reading the series in 2002 (with the publication of Shonen Jump Magazine) and my very first account on this board was created in 2006 (a story for another day).
I even remember being familiar with One Piece when the Alabasta arc was airing in Japan because of this website I used to peruse to watch random anime opening themes. It always made an impression and the silliness stood out.
Let me tell you that I couldn’t be happier with this outcome. It feels right. It feels fun. The outfits; the dialogue; the cinematography; the battles! I’m so excited.

RE: One Piece Live-Adaptation Drama Announced
The casting of this series was totally approved by Oda… so what could this be saying about Dragon?
It’s like people totally forgot Luffy’s line in Ch. 824. Dragon looks NOTHING like Luffy and might not even be related to him by blood.

RE: 1061: "Strike of a Djinn! Sanji vs. Queen"
Like I said, amazing episode. I just found the comparison interesting, as I personally had never noticed those details in the manga prior to that fan pointing them out.
-
RE: 1061: "Strike of a Djinn! Sanji vs. Queen"
I initially considered this to be an amazing episode, but I saw a fan analyze the manga and really break down how Sanji was nerfed as a result of how the chapter was adapted.
To be specific:
- Sanji running so fast that he turns invisible should be the greatest speed feat in the series thus far. It happens in complete silence in the manga, but not in the anime. This is also largely the reason he passes out at the end of the fight.
- Sanji’s continual increase speed increases his weight due to centrifugal force — so the initial Collier on Queen fucked him up. Really, Sanji should be in constant motion until he lands that kick.
- Boeuf Burst is a flurry of kicks in the manga. It is the Ifrit Jambe version of Mouton Shot. Also, they have Queen launched off the wrong side of Onigashima.
I still love the episode, but these were quite interesting to see.

Don’t you think it likely that once Luffy and Shanks reunite, Shanks will come for both the hat AND Luffy’s Jolly Roger? The “Straw Hat” Crew wouldn’t make much sense without it.
-
RE: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part II: Do the Dio Walk!
Ok. Best start to a JoJo’s series thus far IMO.
Jodio Joestar is an instantly likable character and is my type of protagonist. The premise of this series is raw and really just unlike anything Araki has done before. The names of the Stands are all classic songs; I love this already.

RE: Yamato (spoilers for anime-only watchers and those not caught up with the manga)
@electricmastro said in Yamato (spoilers for anime-only watchers and those not caught up with the manga):
I can't imagine that actually. Oda wanted Jinbe to have his epic send-off from Big Mom instead of joining right at Fish-Man Island, and achieved it. If he had been at Dressrosa, Oda would have just gave him more people to fight.
After all, Oda doesn't want a boring manga after all. lol
Homie, it’s a thought exercise for the sake of the argument… I’m not asking you to literally imagine how every plot detail would change lol.
Let’s use what Oda said about Akainu as another example:
"So when creating a character, one needs to be careful not to make them too strong. For example, if Akainu was the main character, the series wouldn't last a year (laughs)."
-

@karubiDON said in Yamato (spoilers for anime-only watchers and those not caught up with the manga):
Yamato has to live like Oden, so why not give the character time to explore their homeland for the first time? The Straw Hat crew would be too strong with Yamato at this point, anyways…
I gather Yamato wanting special Oden validation will fall flat on her face soon enough, but what makes me laugh is the idea of Yamato making Luffy's crew of all people "too strong".
I mean really, an Emperor's crew, too strong? Now I've heard it all.
Too strong for the progression of the story… not “too strong to ever be a Straw Hat.”
Imagine if Jinbe joined Luffy right from Fishman Island; Dressrosa would’ve been a cakewalk. There would’ve been no need for Sanji to separate from the crew.
-
RE: Yamato (spoilers for anime-only watchers and those not caught up with the manga)
@Robby said in Yamato (spoilers for anime-only watchers and those not caught up with the manga):
Because Oda wants the series to be done as soon as possible. Jinbe delaying for years and years was okay because there were still years to go. Yamato delaying means... missing all the final arcs and adventures and maybe only showing up for the final war. We have what, Elbaf and Raftel to go, and then the final war.
Egghead, Elbaf, Mary Geoise, Lodestar, Laugh Tale, maybe the moon… seems like there’s still more One Piece to go.
Yamato doesn’t need a decade with the crew, IMO. But they’ll show up eventually. Like Vivi.
At what point exactly is Yamato supposed to catch up? That couple days wandering around Wano are literal years and hundreds of chapters they won't be around.
I’m predicting they’ll all show up with the borders of Wano are torn down. Likely atop Pluton — which might be the Straw Hat crew’s final ship.
THey're not getting actual crewmate time.
They will — just maybe not as much as you’d like. Oden was only on Roger’s crew for the final voyage, too. Another parallel.
Kinemon and Momo were on the ship for a decade. Yamato (and Tama) are going to get... what? A chapter or two for the epilogue? Is there even a BB fight on the horizon for Yamato? The cover spreads, the interacting, the making old jokes fresh by having new reactions, the merchandising... not getting any of it as part of the actual crew.
I’d imagine that Yamato makes it to Laugh Tale and is in the final battle. Maybe the last 2-3+ years of the story.
That's not really relevant when Luffy and Zoro are going to stomp everything short of an admiral or Emperor anyway, and they have Jinbro in the group now. Besides, Oda always splits up and handicaps the crew, it doesn't take much to make raw physical strength irrelevant.
What about the Seraphim and Imu? The Five Elder (Celestial Bodies)? There are a lot of major challenges left and the Straw Hat crew can’t be too strong for the sake of the story.
Remember what Oda said about how the story would progress if Sakazuki was the protagonist? There’s levels to it.
-
RE: Yamato (spoilers for anime-only watchers and those not caught up with the manga)
Yamato, Momo, and Kin’emon will eventually join… it just isn’t their time yet. Luffy called them 仲間 like Vivi, so I have no doubt that the fandom will eventually go wild when they show up aboard Pluton alongside Zunesha. I wonder if Pluton is the Straw Hats’ final ship and it’s looking more likely.
The mysteries of Wano weren’t supposed to be solved by the end of it, hence why there are still open questions about so many characters in it.
Yamato has to live like Oden, so why not give the character time to explore their homeland for the first time? The Straw Hat crew would be too strong with Yamato at this point, anyways…

RE: Chapter 1073: Miss Buckingham Stussy
So Stussy used Sea Prism Stone on her lips to take out Lucci and Kaku. This makes me question as to whether or not her demon form is a Devil Fruit — in fact, it might be the same type of Demonio ability that Robin used against Black Maria.
Also, the Five Elder (Celestial Bodies) likely all have to do with planets. After the revelation of Saint Jaygarcia Saturn (while taking into account the existence of Uranus [Ancient Weapon], Neptune [Poseidon], and Pluto [Pluton OR Rayleigh, given his epithet]), the rest of the "Greatest Powers in the World" likely will focus on the other planets: Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Jupiter.

Edit: The more I think about it, the more I still want to go down this rabbit hole. What of Little Oars Jr’s kasa? And Otama’s job as a weaver… these are all farming hats.
I don’t disagree that the hat may have to do with elementary school children… but I don’t think that’s solely it, given the straw hat’s legacy being passed from Roger to Shanks to Luffy.
-
RE: Chapter 1072: The Weight of Memory
With Stussy being a clone, I wonder if this points to the whole of Shimotsuki Village being comprised of clone children. Zoro and Sanji may be more similar than we think.
Of course, I’ve thought Luffy might be a clone of Roger for years and this further hints towards that direction.

True; though I always found Luffy’s design in Film Gold interesting. He doesn’t don a cowboy hat — but a straw, Western-style farmer’s hat. Seemed like it could’ve been a hint?
-
RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
Greg, have you ever considered the significance of Luffy’s straw hat having to do with the agricultural revolution and farming? I can’t help but think it ties into his obsession with food / hunger.
Simultaneously, I wonder if the fire motif ties into the myth of Prometheus and the dawn of mankind (supposedly evolving through our use of fire).

RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
Greg, I really appreciated the podcast you had with Genso — you gave me a lot of food for thought (e.g. Zoro possibly always being half-asleep; Izo’s connection to the admirals; the “burn scar” potentially meaning freezer burn; Kaido’s reasoning for not using Awakening; etc).
If anyone in this thread hasn’t taken the time to listen yet, I highly encourage it!
