@Dohs:
Hey there guys! I was wondering about certain issue that is brought up from time to time - "We need more females in crew". I was wondering whether it's the thing that most of you guys agree on, or just few people always bring it up and it only seems like everyone wants more females in the crew.
So I'm thinking do we really need more females in the crew? Compared to others crews 2 females is not a small number, there's no females in RedHairs pirates, only one in BB pirates, also I don't remember much females from WB crew, but his crew was very big so there were probably some females… or maybe not? So what's the reason?
Compared to other crews in OP and in real life there aren't many females in pirate crews so i guess its not the reason to be 'more realistic' since it wouldn't be. So maybe more fanservice ? I think we got enough of that on Nami, Robin and other characters that shows up for some time like obviously... Boa.
Also OP is shounen manga, for boys, and boys like male protagonists... (and bigger boys likes to look at tits lol). I guess im still a boy at hearth then cause i prefer male protagonists, easier to identify with them maybe? Possible i guess.
All in all i think that we don't need any more females in crew... Personally I'd rather see another strong guy, but what's you take on it?
Sorry for bringing up your post after a month already. I just wanna give my two cents.
As a a female fan of One Piece, I would love to see a new female nakama in Straw Hats. Similar to you, I guess I just want a female character I can identify with. But if that female character is someone like Margarete (ahem, Rebecca), then no, I rather not. As for the 2 current females in the crew, Robin is one of my favorite characters and Nami is somewhat okay. My problem is that the girls in the crew are well behave and reserve. Whenever there is a fight, they are more of a support. (So was Chopper and Usopp, though) Another example is one of the recent chapters where Law was divising a plan and the 4 guys (Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Franky) just went crazy on Dressrosa. Man, I would like to see a female character as loose and as crazy as the guys.
If there's a new female nakama, I want her as a fighter, a loose canon like Luffy. Not necessarily smart (Nami and Robin are already smart), but still uses her head, kinda like Sanji or Franky. I miss Nami's tomboyishness from the early chapters, so I wish the girl is tomboyish. I was thinking of someone like Revy from Black Lagoon, Toph from Avatar or Korra from LoK. Dammit, it almost sounds like I'm writing my own mary-sue. Gahh. Also, this arc has a perfect setup for an inanimate crew member, kinda like Karl and Climber from Law of Thalos who are a statue and a mannequin, respectively.
Also, I'm tired of the sausage-fest arguments and the need for a new female crew member despite having nothing new to offer (except boobs) every new arc. I'll be happy to support if the female nakama candidate is worthy of being a crewmate and actually DIFFERENT (diversed) from the two current females. (Well, this applies to male nakama candidates too) If you want boobs to oogle at, just read Fairy Tail.
