RE: Chapter 1070: The Strongest Form Of Humanity
@Bugs
Thanks for the explenation. I that case I guess Vegapunk could try to create failed Logia fruits which pretty much would end up being Paramecias. Of course compared to Kaido's fruit the failure would be much bigger since missing transubstantiation is a bigger deal than just the colors being different. -

I see. So basically he can copy it to a certain extent like as if it was a Paramecia ability. But when it get's to the Logia specific abilities then he hits a roadblock. Is that about right?

RE: Chapter 1070: The Strongest Form Of Humanity
So if Logia fruits cannot be replicated how did the Pacifista end up with Kizaru's laser? Drake even labeled it as such.

But didn't he tell Wally to do this a few chapters ago already? I'm quite sure that this was the shift in Wally's approach after he took the lead by points. Or am I just remembering that wrong?

Pity that it has to end after 10 chapters but glad that we got them either way. Curious to find out what this new release schedule thing is supposed to be though.

One thing I definitely would have done is the graphics as stated a previously. I just find that the cell shaded graphic seen in games like Breath of the Wild, Nino Kuni, Genshin Impact and Naruto UNS or Dragoball FighterZ just is visually more appealing. To me personally such graphics really are a selling point because I like just looking at them.
About the things you were a bit reserved. I can see where you're coming from. Didn't comment on that however because trailers and promotional shots are usually chopped together thus not giving a clear idea of why things are as they are. But I'm actually curious to see in game why the things you mention are as we see them so far.
Also isn't it about time to change the thread title?

RE: "One Piece Odyssey" trademark registered by Shueisha and Bandai Namco
Gotta be honest. As much as I'm trying to lower my expectations because I've been let down to many times, I have to admit that what we've seen of the classic locations so far really excites me.
They really look like proper representations of the familiar locations, which is something I'm always hoping for in an OP game.

Yeah, really thinking about preordering this now. I generally don't like to do that but paying extra for the costumes if I can get them now really makes me want to make an exception.
Then again, there's no pre-timeskip costumes for Franky and Brook which is a huge bummer for me as that's the two changes I dislike the most.

O-ho-ho, my boy Crocodile somewhat playable as a guest character. Me like. Thanks for confirming that. Pity that Jinbei is just a guest character though.
I wonder if Vivi might make it as playable guest character. She has been criminally under utilized in One Piece games for the status that she has.

Well that was quite the plot twist. Didn't see this one coming at all. But it works which is always the most important thing when something like this happens.

RE: "One Piece Odyssey" trademark registered by Shueisha and Bandai Namco
This trailer raises an interesting question for me. So we know the previous arcs will have memories not play out exactly as they were, which I think is a great concept as it enables you to relive familiar ground in a new way. And this trailer just shows this best with the Strawhat Crew being at Marineford with Luffy. But that's not what I find the interesting question. What I'm talking about is that if the Strawhats being playable during Marineford because they accompany Luffy is a thing, does that also mean that Luffy confronting Doflamingo with Law and Sabo mean, that those two guys will be playable (again) too?

RE: Sakamoto Days
In all fairness, Beelzebub has been doing fine for quite a while until it started losing quality towards the end (or respectively that eventually being what made it end). Sakamoto Days still didn't run as long for us to judge it wouldn't make the same mistakes. Though I really hope it wouldn't. It's damn good as it is so far.

People have been laughing at me for years when I predicted that "that" character will fight "that" character. But look who's laughing now. Bet you all feel silly right now.

RE: Konjiki no Gash Bell
@Kdom
I do think that the two of them are vastly different in execution of the same concept.Gash, if memory doesn't fail me, started his adventure while having amnesia. That already from the beginning sets his true identity up as something that will be revealed later. It does not automatically mean that he has to be someone important, but as the reader you always have the thought "this guy might be someone important" in the back of your mind. So when he finally get's revealed to be the kings son, it's that much of a 180.
For Luffy it's different. He doesn't have amnesia and his heritage isn't really important for a long while. Of course it doesn't stop readers from wondering who his parents are but the mystery comes more from the audiences investment rather than the story itself setting it up. The important things we know about Luffy is that he's free guy who goes on an adventure because that's the thing he wants to do.
And then we find out that there's other D. like him, which seem to be special kind of people who are different from others. That is not a bad thing at all, since most protagonists have something that others don't have that gives them the edge. Plus he's not the only D. meaning just being a D. doesn't instantly make you win the Pirate King game.
Then we later find out that both his father and his grandfather are a big deal in their own field. Again nothing wrong here as neither of them has claimed the title of Pirate King. At that point they still add more to the idea that D's are some special people with an incredible drive to push forward and achieve their goals. And Luffy is just like that. He has some incredible drive but he's neither a copy cat of his father nor of his grandfather. He follows his own free will not letting himself get stopped by anything. For a decade and a half this idea has time to grow within the audience so it's only natural to take this for what it is.
But then on top of being a D. and the (grand)child of Garp respectively Dragon, he actually also has some specific super power than only a select few and Don Chinjao are born with called Conquerors Ambition. Having that power is lesser focused on Luffy but more on anyone who doesn't have it, because as an audience that has even the most basic concept of storytelling you now know that a huge number of characters who don't have this superpower are instantly locked out of being a serious contender for the title of Pirate King.
So know it's a D., (grand)son of Garp and Dragon and a person with Conquerors Ambition. But wait that's not it because actually that Strawhat that was only a memento of his idol is now something that has been passed down by the Pirate King. No wait, actually the Strawhat goes way back and can be related to whatever happened during the void century.
Oh and actually Luffy has also the ability the hear the voice of all things and thus understand what Zunisha and the Seakings are saying which is very relevant to the bigger picture of One Piece.
Oh and actually
To sum it all up, to me it seems that it's not the child of prophecy that many have a problem with. It's rather that there's so many 'actually's' happening that even if you have no problem with the concept, the execution does throw you off a bit because you had so many years to get to know Luffy as somebody who just has this drive. But adding layer on layer on top of this concept seems to be taking away a lot of agency for Luffy making him seem like he's destiny's pawn rather than a character that choses his own destiny.
Personally I believe that it is still for Luffy to decide what he will do with all the tools given to him. But I do see why people would be annoyed by the countless curveballs Oda throws at us. Again, I do think that the length of the series heavily has to do with that perception. But even length aside, I wouldn't consider the execution of the same concept in One Piece is the same as in Gash.

RE: Hiatus x Hiatus III: Goodnight, Sweet Princes
@wolfwood
Yes, he does. The issue is not Feitan having a broken speech pattern, it's that it mostly has no rhyme or reason. There usually is a system which broken speech patterns follow with pattern being the keyword here. However there is almost no pattern which makes this jarring to read if you actually care for those things.I explained in detail what I mean and put in under spoilers. Unfortunally it's quite long too read an not easy on the eye, which is mainly my fault as I couldn't think of a good way how to make it easier on the eye in a forum post.

RE: Hiatus x Hiatus III: Goodnight, Sweet Princes
For crying out loud stop being so sensitive. If I consider a translation to be insultingly bad then I will label it as such.
Feel free to think differently and disagree with my take. But please stop playing the moral highground card and act as if only the comic book industry is prone to bad working conditions when literally every field of work experiences something similar. I did not take a jab at neither you personally nor at the comic book industry as a whole. I simply found this translation to be really bad and amateurish and I explained in detail why in the spoiler part (where I was even generous because I left certain aspects out).
As Zeltrax said, it is not the audiences job to do extra digging to excuse the bad translation. It is not the audiences job to do research on the translators pedegree and body of work. We and in this specific situation I judge a product on it's own merits and not on previous work. Because that's the only way how to properly judge a product. If a five start cook suddenly offers you a turd you would also not eat it up because said person is a certified five star cook with 20 years of work experience where they prepared only the most high class of meals. You would call them out for offering you a turd, with no regards to history and working conditions.
And that's exactly how I feel about the translation in the most recent chapter. I hope you would somehow understand that this is not a personal attack at you or at the comic industry as a whole. So would you mind stop being triggered by it as if it was such? You know that I never to shy aways to admit when I went overboard and accidentally offend somebody. But I will not do so when drama is created out of something where there is no drama to be found. I think the translation sucks. You don't. Let's move on with this.

RE: Konjiki no Gash Bell
@Kdom
While this for one is not a thing I'm having a problem with I do understand where the argument is comming from. While Oda definitely has planned this from the get go, he has spent most the time creating an adventure store where freedom and free choice to follow your own dream are a core part. Here the series lenght works against it because we saw the protagonist like this for much longer than a decade.But now with everything that has happened not only is this a child of prophecy thing but there's layers upon layers that get introduced that to can make it appear as if nothing the protagonist did happened out of free will, and that the seemingly free will is also something that has been passed down and leading the way.
Personally I don't think a child of prophecy trope is a bad thing and I also expected it to be something especially chapter 100 where "inherited will" became a thing and when Robin in Arabasta asked what those that carry a D in their name are fighting for. But I do understand the notion that it is a bit much in recent years where developments unfold where yet another layer to the child of prophecy thing gets introduced that seemingly takes a bit away from the free will.
I don't remember it well anyore but fro the top of my head I do think that Gash in comarison never had such a big shift in tone on top of running for a much shorter time. Please correct me if I'm wrong here. So if I'm not mistaken then I would say that both series are similar in concept but different in execution. I hope that somewhat provides an answer.

I never said it back when the original series was running but I do think that it takes a skilled writer to take a character like Folgore and make him actually one of the most awesome characters in the series without compromising on the aspects that could make people consider him nothing more than a joke character.

RE: Hiatus x Hiatus III: Goodnight, Sweet Princes
@Robby
Sorry mate but I'm not changing my stance on what I said. It's your free choice to dislike it but I would suggest that you take a step back and stop getting overly emotionally ivolved here. Also perhaps consider that the comic book industry doesn't hold exclusivity rights on work related hardships, setbacks and obstacles.I'm fully aware how tough things at work can get. I myself am far from working perfectly all the time but when I consequently screw up I have to take the critisism, no matter the circumstances. I know it feels hard and unfair but it doesn't change that ultimately I will have to take it, even if outside factors played a huge role. That's why I will continue to call a sloppy job a sloppy job, with full disregard for pedigree and/or accomplishments. I suggest you don't take it too much too heart, take a step back and relax.

Anything in particular or in general? Like I also thought that this chapter was rather clunky. They went overboard with Feitan's broken speak pattern.
Aside from the issues Ubiq and zeltrax225 have pointed out, I in fact really have an issue with how overboard they went with Feitan's broken speech pattern. There is no rhyme or reason to it. I will explain why I feel so below. However I'll put it in spoilers as I'm afraid it'll be a bit long and most likely not something everybody is interested in.
@Robby said in Hiatus x Hiatus III: Goodnight, Sweet Princes:
Translator credits are to Lilian Olsen, who has been doing translating work for decades and has thousands of chapters to her credit, including half of Dragonball and all of DBZ , Yu Yu Hakusho, Evangelion, Utena, El Hazard, Ceres, Shaman King, and every HxH volume since volume 7, which came out in English in 2006.
So if anything is particularly off about this chapter, and you didn't feel that way about the previous 360 chapters over the last 16 years, its probably not on the translator's ability and instead some other behind the scenes issue.
Or I didn't feel it before because this new batch of HxH chapters is the only body of work I've read of said translator with this chapter being the first time Feitan actually has somewhat of actual lines.
I get what you're tying to say and I don't disagree that it might be someone else's fault. But at the same time I don't think that the argument provided automatically takes the responsibility away from the translator. While I do hold experience in very high regards I also think that quality is more important than quantity. And I've never been fond of the argument "x person has been doing y for z years" as indicator of actual quality. If anything, many bad routines get justified by exactly that. Again, not saying that it has to be the case for this translator. Rather just saying that it isn't a particuarly strong argument.
-
RE: Sakamoto Days
Yep, the plot twist isn't really surprising but it's still very good plot development. I also want both sides to make it out somehow but I wouldn't be surprised if we'd get a bittersweet conclusion where Amane reconsiles with his father who is dying/dead.

Nice that we get in the thick of things so soon after the warm-up ^^
Following up on last week's discussion with Ivotas, the expository bit about shooting the giant cannon is precisely what I was after : something to tell us Mina is not just any old sniper. It wouldn't have hurt to hear about it sooner, but it may also have ruined the surprise. I guess it's one of those cases where reading in volume format will vanish the issue entirely since both the action and explanation are back to back.
Don't want to come across like a smartass prick but this really is simply a matter of basic reading comprehension. If the entire premise of those strong guys is that it requires skill and strenght to sync up with their suits/weapons and the higher percentage the sync rate is, the more effective they are in a fight, then it's clear that skill matters. That's what I've been saying before we even started the argument. Just read my post from 12 days ago. It's not like this chapter revealed something that we couldn't have figured out by using common sense. They only revealed the specifics.

Going by how Lilith reacted she clearly seems to have no clue what's going on
My read was that she first goes aggressive to cover the lie - hurling a 'how dare you accuse me of this' attack right back to put the person calling you out on the offensive is in-character for a brash, "evil" personality like hers. And then when Pythagoras tries to restrain her she overcorrects and offers to open the whole thing up, just for the gag scene.
Could be wrong, of course, but I'm just seeing the Punk personalities going about their own ways of covering it up.
Lilith so far has been portrayed as a character who's pretty much on the nose and openly shows her true intentions. Of course there's the chance that this is all an act seeing that she's the one representing Vegapunks evil side, so if anyone is up for trickery she's the most likely candidate.
But somehow I just read this moment as it being her genuine reaction. Not really something that I feel disagreeing much with anyone about though as I might be dead wrong here. I guess I'm mostly inclined to take that at face value as even before this chapter I thought that there will be something else going on at Egghead which will not make CP0 the primary antagonists. So I took this scene to completely go that route.

@Ivotas Do you think the Vegapunks were telling the truth that they had nothing to do with the disappearances?
Going by how Lilith reacted she clearly seems to have no clue what's going on. She was even willing to let CP0 onto island because she was offended how one would accuse them of doing something like this and wanted to prove her innocence in that matter.
Personally I think that even Lucci has realized that when he said he understood. Doesn't mean he has to abort his mission though.
-

So with this new development about disappearing CP agents it's very likely that we haven't seen the main arc antagonist yet. Question now is if it'll be someone new or somebody we already know.

When you mention pond with huge Koi in it I immediately think of Ohori Park but there's no temple there so I'm having a hard time remembering which one had a pond from back then when I was still a tourist and actually checking those places out. Was it perhaps close to Hakata station?
I can't. I just can't. It would be hard to say it to a nice Japanese person offering it to me, but I wouldn't have a choice.
